1. Epic Hero
The world needs heroes. Weather they are fictional or not, people need something to look up to.
The Flash not only is a hero, but an epic hero as well. He has a supernatural ability, he sacrifices
himself for others, and usually wins a reward in the end. At least in the TV show, Barry Allen, The
Flash, shows the traits of an epic hero.
The Flash most definitely has a supernatural aid. He can travel over 2000 miles per hour by
running. In season 1 episode 2 "Fastest Man Alive," The Flash gains his supernatural ability. At
1:15, he saves a little girl from a burning building, even when Doctor Wells, the scientist in charge
of studying Barry's capabilities, said he didn't know everything about Barry's body yet and that he
did "caution restraint" for Barry (David Nutter 3:30).
Barry often proves that he is willing to make sacrifices for others. In season 3 episode 22
"Infantino Street," Barry and Leonard Snart steal an energy source required to save Barry's fiance,
but by taking it, the facility goes on lockdown. The door to the room begins to close, but only
Barry makes it out of the room in time. Snart tries to convince Barry to leave by himself when he
says that,"this is your chance to show...show more content...
The Flash uses his super speed often and it aids him in many missions, which is his supernatural
aid. He saves others rather than putting himself first, which shows his humility. Finally, he wins a
reward in the end, as all epic heroes do. Having powers is not the only thing that makes you an
epic hero, in fact superpowers would corrupt most people. What it really takes is using your great
power for the good of others. That is why I consider The Flash an epic hero.

Moana: Not Your Average Epic Hero What comes to your mind when you think of an epic hero?
When I think of an epic hero, I think of a superhero. The epic hero I'm writing about today is
different from Superman or The Flash, a more modern epic hero. The epic hero I am writing
about is a woman of color. Not only that but a teenager. She is someone who multiple people
around the world can see themselves as. One thing all epic heroes do have in common is a story,
and her is Moana's. Te Fiti, an island goddess, created all life and became an island after falling
asleep. Her heart, a small pounamu stone, was sought after by the monstrous forces of the sea
until it was stolen by the demigod Maui. As a toddler, Moana discovers the heart as she is
collecting shells near the ocean. After her chieftain father, Tui, orders her to return to the village,
she never sees it until much later. As Moana grows up, she has the responsibility of becoming the
next chief of the island. Due to her friendship with her grandmother, Gramma Tala, she keeps her
dream of leaving the island alive. Later, Gramma Tala is seen ill and on her deathbed. With her
dying breath, she tells Moana to go save her people and gives her the necklace used to carry the
heart. Moana...show more content...

Heroes may fall, but they are never forgotten. An epic is an enlightening story with its true purpose
to portray a historical person or event. Epics centralize on concepts such as loyalty and valor, which
were important to those of medieval times. Epics were not recorded for a long time after they
actually occurred. An epic hero is an individual with phenomenal finesse and extraordinary abilities.
They represented a culture's highest standards or values. A heroic flaw is usually the triumphant
downfall of a hero. Most heroes are depicted to have a heroic flaw which shows their mortality or
ephemerality, meaning they do not live forever or just a brief amount of time. Epic Heroes are thrust

EPIC ESSAY ABOUT AN EPIC HERO
Every epic story has an epic hero. All of these heroes, throughout all of literature, share three vital
traits. These are what make heroes, well, heroes. Odysseus, the main character and hero of Homer's
The Odyssey, was on a perilous quest to get home and back to his family. Without his intelligence,
without his courage, and most importantly without his determination, the great Odysseus never
would have achieved such a goal. These three traits have immortalized him in fame forever and have
led him to his family.
The first evidence of Odysseus' great intelligence can be found in the Iliad, written by Homer and
part 1 of the epic story, during the trojan war. The armies that had been fighting were at a point in
which only death occurred on both sides. Odysseus found a hilariously simple way to solve the
issue at hand and win the war, the Trojan Horse. "Odysseus' plan was to build an enormous
wooden horse and hide a few greek soldiers inside its hollow belly"(1028). Without the brilliant
Odysseus, and his Trojan Horse, thousands of future lives would have been lost and the war would
have raged on.
Odysseus' second and arguably most crucial display of intelligence takes place on the island of the
cyclopes, home to Polyphemus, in Polyphemus' cave. Due to his great intelligence Odysseus was
able to foresee the coming of the cyclopes upon blinding the great Polyphemus. So prior to doing
so, he came up with a brilliant plan, as seen in this quote: "My

warrior and showed characteristics such as loyalty, generosity, and bravery. These characteristics is

protecting his country. Everybody has fear only heros know how to deal with it, therefore becoming
fearless. My epic hero and Beowulf would both walk into any battle risking their lives for their
people.
Beowulf is a very courageous man as well as an American soldier. Beowulf is a very brave and
courageous person. His actions toward the monster Grendel that was terrorizing the Danes show
that he is willing to help others. In an epic it is usually found that the hero often determines the
fate of a nation or group of people. Beowulf has definitely helped the Danes and his own people
the Geats in their triumph over evil by killing Grendel his mom and the dragon. American
soldiers that is a medic on the field. They have to be full of courage. They go out saving their
men's lives that have been injured with very little protection for themselves. A medic gets the call
that there is a man down. He is running towards the bullets and fighting, when most normal
people would be running away. There bullets flying past his head, bombs dropping everywhere,
and he is trying to save a mans live. The medic finally makes it to the bunker where the man is
lying. The man is screaming in pain while the medic is calm, relaxed, and focused. How does a man
do such a thing? Well only a Epic hero who is very courages can.
Finally, heros such as Beowulf and American soldiers are

6. Harry Potter: An Epic Hero
Next, an epic hero usually has another character close to him that is very wise and almost
all–knowing, and Harry Potter is no different. The all–knowing character in Harry Potter is
obviously Albus Dumbledore. Dumbledore knew of the connection between Harry and
Voldemort long before Harry or Voldemort learned of it. Dumbledore is also one of the only
people in the entire series to learn about Voldemort's secret to immortality, Horcruxes. Dumbledore
plays a very important role in Harry's life; he is the one to tell Harry about the Horcruxes which
eventually allows for Voldemort's defeat. There is a character in epics that are wise and
knowledgeable and Dumbledore is that character in Harry

Is Odysseus An Epic Hero?
Is Odysseus, the main character of Homer's The Odyssey, really an epic hero? An epic hero
embodies several heroic traits such as; having superior or super–human strength; being intellectual
and courageous; and being a strong and responsible leader. An epic hero struggles and is
overwhelmed with difficulties. An epic hero is on a quest of self discovery, war or some sort of goal.
In the Odyssey, Odysseus is on a quest to return home to Ithaca after ten years of war in Troy.
Odysseus, during his quest, is forced to venture through a merciless Cyclops, angered Gods, deeply
obstinate Goddesses, the underworld, and determined suitors that are after his wife Penelope.

Polyphemus is startled to see Odysseus and his men. Polyphemus snatches two men and makes
his meal. Odysseus wants to take his sword to Polyphemus but knows if he kills him now he
won't be able to escape because of the giant boulder. The next day while Polyphemus is pasturing
his sheep, Odysseus finds and hardens a wooden staff. When Polyphemus returns, Odysseus
offered Polyphemus some wine. "'Here, Cyclops, drink some wine after of human flesh, and see
what sort of liquor our ship held. I brought it as an offering thinking that you might pity me and
send me home. But you are mad past bearing. Reckless! How should a stranger come to you again
from any people, when you have done this wicked deed?' So I spoke; he took the cup and drank it
off, and mighty pleased he was with the taste of the sweet liquor, and thus he asked me for it yet
again:
'Give me some more, kind sir, and straightway tell your name...'
'Cyclops you ask my noble name, and I will tell it; but do you give the stranger's gift, just as you
promised. My name is Noman. Noman I am called by mother, father, and by all my comrades'"
(86). Odysseus tells Polyphemus his name is Noman to ruse him. Odysseus soon gets Polyphemus
drunk. Odysseus takes the staff and blinds Polyphemus. Polyphemus removes the boulder and asks
for help from the other Cyclops. "Then in his turn from out the cave big Polyphemus answered:
'Friends Noman is murdering me by craft. Force there is none.'
But answering him in winged words they

9. What Makes an Epic Hero Essay
What is an epic hero? Although we would like to believe that a hero would always be there to
save us as needed, that is not always the case. All heroes are different, but what makes them epic?
Many would answer that question by saying because they are in an epic poem or story; however,
that answer isn't true. An epic hero, of course is in an epic narrative, but it is what they
accomplish in that specific text. First, an epic hero has to make a grand journey and be in the
Gods favor or shall we say the chosen one. Also, he has to be seen as superior than any other man.
For clarification, the epic hero needs to be bigger, faster, stronger, and wiser than anyone else in
the story, except for the Gods of course. Also, and epic hero is also...show more content...
However, his comrades are all relying on this great hero to win the war for them and he does
eventually return to the battle field so he can be remembered and obtain glory as does any epic
hero secretly wants. The author John Keats agrees with me when he states in his article, "And he
peoples it with towering heroes who thirst for honor and fight shattering wars." (Keats, John).
Another reason that qualifies Achilles as an epic hero is the fact that the Gods favor him
throughout the poem because of his close relationship with them, but they usually do what is best
for their hero; even if it means doing absolutely nothing, which they eventually do. Achilles is an
epic hero that goes on a journey, and although he might not be the greatest hero, he is considered an
epic hero. The next epic hero is Odysseus from the epic poem, The Odyssey which was also written
by Homer. Odysseus isn't your average guy, or even your average hero. His long journey begins
ten years after the Trojan War starting off trapped on an island with a beautiful goddess. Andrea
backs up my statement by asking the question, "He was sent off to in a land far away. Now the
war is over, and he desperately wants to go home. Will the great warrior Odysseus find his way
back?" (McAuliff, Coller, Andrea). He longs to journey home, but the goddess won't let him, for she
wants him as her husband;

Beowulf An Epic Hero Beowulf: An Epic Hero Being a hero can be defined many different ways.
Several qualities like courage, respect, and strength can define heroism. A hero is noted for his or
her actions for being brave, powerful, and acting with honor. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main
character Beowulf shows all of these characteristics by defending the Danish king, Hrothgar, and
his people. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect
others. Beowulf embodies the qualities of bravery, being powerful, and demonstrating his honor;
therefore, he can be considered a true hero. A way Beowulf demonstrates his heroism is the way he
stays true to the Geats by honoring them. Before...show more content...
1822–1826). Beowulf's honor far exceeds the average person's, and his actions and words show for
it. Not only is Beowulf honorable and well respected, he is brave as well. His courage is shown by
not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane's enemies. By being self–assured, Beowulf is
able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the time Beowulf is
planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, "I've never known fear, as a youth
I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon hiding
in his tower dares to face me."(ll. 2511–2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the dragon
alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying,
"When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides
which of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat
this monster."(ll. 2525–2534). In his actions, Beowulf's bravery is clearly shown throughout the
poem. A final example of heroic qualities shown by Beowulf is his power. The mental and
physical strength is mandatory to being a hero. No Dane, before Beowulf's arrival, is able to defeat
Grendel because of fear and
