1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
To make my magazine look like a real, professional
magazine I have used some typical conventions that are
used when making a music magazine. For example the
name of my magazine links into music as AMP stands for
amplified. This title adds to the music industry as music
can be amplified to make it sound better. The word
amplified is shortened to AMP to make it stand out and to
make the magazine easy to identify that it is a music magazine.
On the front cover of my magazine I have used an image of a duet
with a guitar and a microphone as the props to further emphasis this is
a music magazine. The stance of the duet and the guitar and
microphone held in the air also emphasises the genre of the magazine
which is pop.
The bright colours emphasises the genre of the magazine as pop. The colours used in the
magazine such as the different shades of pinks and the pink against the grey background of
the magazine, contrast against each other. These are done to also define the target audience
and to make the name of the magazine stand out to attract the right target audience which is
in this case teenage girls.
2. In the magazine I have also used the convention of the Gutenberg Design Principle. I used
this as a guide on how to lay out each of the pages of my magazine to successful attract the
audience's attention towards the magazine. In my double page spread I used pull quotes to
emphasise the important part of the interview.
Primary Optical Area
Also on the double page spread I have used a large, bright headline to catch the reader's
attention. I have also placed it in the top left hand corner of the magazine because of the
Gutenberg Design Principle as this is the first place the reader's eyes are drawn to. The
headline is a dark shade of pink I have used this as it contrast against the blight pink of the
background. In my music article I have done a Q and A interview which is a typical
convention of a music magazine. In my contents page and my double page spread I have used
a simple layout to make it easy for the reader to understand it and so it does not overwhelm
the reader. I made my magazine with this layout from looking at professional magazines such
as Q and NME these helped make my magazine look professional and real.
