The document discusses how the author used market research and design principles to attract and address their target audience for a music magazine. A survey found that most people preferred Coldplay and would pay £1-2 for a magazine. Focus groups confirmed the target of females and proper grammar. The layout uses techniques like the rule of thirds and Gutenberg design principles to guide the eye around the page and emphasize key information like the logo, cover image, and price.
2. MARKET RESEARCH
I used my market research report to attract/ address my audience. My market research report is a
questionnaire that was made and answered on Survey Monkey. I used my market research report
to target my audience.
Questions asked:
What artists do you like?”- From the results on my survey I found out that the most liked artist
was Coldplay as 63.64% of the people wo took my survey voted on them. The second most liked
artist on my survey was a tie between Florence and the Machine and Oasis. These results will
help me determine who I will put in my music magazine to get the biggest audience and it also
helps with the genre and target audience of the music magazine. These results helped me decide
who to add as a cover line on my magazine.
3. COST OF MAGAZINE
In my market research report I asked 'How
much would you pay for a magazine'. From my
results I found out that 63.64% of the people
who took my survey would pay between £1.01-
£2.00 for a magazine, 18.18% of people said
they would pay between £0.00-£1.00 and 18.18%
of the people who took my survey said they
would pay between £3.01 or more for a
magazine. These results would help me
determine how much my music magazine would
be which would be between £1.01-£2.00 as more
people are willing to pay this much to get a
magazine which could increase the audience.
4. FOCUS GROUP
The responses from my focus group also helped attract and address my target audience as the
people who commented on my magazine work knew who the target audience was as being
females and that the use of grammar used helped to catch the audience’s eye. The name of my
magazine is in capitals “AMP” which catches the audience’s eye and makes it easy for the audience
to know what type of magazine it is.
5. IMAGE LAYOUT
Image layout is used to attract and address the audience this
has also been commented on my Facebook Focus Group as
it has been commented that the image is well balanced and
the use of the rule of 3rds is used which adds to a
professional level and makes it look like a real music
magazine.

6. GUTENBERG DESIGN PRINCIPLE
I used the Gutenberg design principle to attract/
address my target audience because it clearly sows how
the audience looks at a piece of paper.
• The first area that the audience will look at the top
left hand corner which is known as the Primary
Optical Area- this is where my logo of my music
magazine is to le he audience know what magazine it
is.
• As the reader’s eyes travel to the bottom right hand
corner the reader’s eyes will be drawn to the main
image and the main cover line. This is to inform the
reader of the most important story magazine.
• The next area the reader looks at the bottom right
hand corner which is known as the Terminal Area.
In this area of my magazine the barcode has been
placed there. This gives the impression that the
magazine is real.

CONTINUED
• The third place where the reader looks at is
the top right hand corner which is known as
the Strong Fallow Area. In this area of my
magazine the price, date and issue number of
my magazine has be placed which informs the
reader of the least important information of
the page.
• The final area that the readers eyes go to is
the bottom left hand corner which is known
as the Weak Fallow Area. In this area of my
magazine the cover lines are shown. This
informs the reader of what is in the magazine.
