1.in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The ways in which my magazine uses conventions and other forms are ,[object Object]

Topic
ImagesThese things create the basis of my magazine as I have researched Front covers, contents pages and also double page spreads from music magazines. To see which parts I have taken from my research and developed I will analyse each section of my coursework to come to conclusions which parts are from the starting research.
Front Cover. Slogans under the title usually do this to indirectly say how good they are. A large masthead to clearly label the magazine. Highlight the competition to also attract the reader. Cover lines to show what is included in the magazine but also to pick out the important parts. Words are highlighted in red to catch the readers eye. Colour scheme of red, white and black to make the magazine look more attractive to look at.
Contents Page A list of features which you would find in music magazine which interest a pop audience. The layout used the convention of other magazine contents pages which have large pictures and then a list of many things down one side with some writing located at the bottom. I used the effect of including one picture in another to make the page looks full of life and make sure the main article sticks out suddenly when you open the page as well.
Double Page Spread I used different fonts to highlight main areas which may catch the readers eye. I have put a large picture on one side of the page to divide the writing and images up. To make it look more professional I have added text around the images to not make the divide look too obvious and include the interview and link them to the images. I have use the conventions of a typical magazine layout, as in terms of a large picture on one side and lots of text on the other which includes pictures between these. Use of the colour scheme to make pieces of text stand out and look more presentable.
2.how does your media product represent a particular social group? I believe the social group my magazine is aimed at, is a teenage social group between the ages of 14- 19 who enjoy listening to Pop, R‘n’B music which has a twist of other genres as well throughout. The way which the artist I have shown in my magazine can show how teens may dress in modern society who read this magazine. The media influences young people from how they dress, to what music they listen to. So dressing the artist in modern, fashionable clothes and putting this together with casual pop and R'n'B music we can bring together this teen social group.
3.What kind of music institution might distribute your media product and why? The type of music distributor which I chose to go with would be someone who is already popular and has some leading magazines out of the shelves. The distributor International Publishing Corporation Ltd (IPC) publishes NME magazine and also a few other music magazines. I would like to try and get my magazine looked at by them to show them what another genre of music may do for their company. I want to show them what can also attract teens and especially the primary audience for them and lead to another big audience which are interested in pop / R'n'B.
Audience My Magazine was intended to be aimed at an audience between the ages of 14 – 19 however this was only the primary audience as a secondary audience maybe a little older which could be 20 – 24 years of age. The gender of the magazine would mostly likely be a female audience buying but with such a dark colour scheme it may also attract some males to buy this. The genre of my magazine will attract a younger audience because of the modern genre of it, but it can also bring other social groups of genres together which are made by different collaborations at this moment in time. 4.who would be the audience for your media product?

  • 12. 5.how did you attract / Address your audience? I attract my audience through the use of pictures, by increasing there size and especially on the front page and also inside the magazine. I also did this by including competitions, other band interviews, blogs, charts and also gig listings of artists or bands who are coming to perform. The use of big names for example, Katy Perry, The Wanted can already can bring readers to the magazine and by then introduce other unknown artist to the magazine to give the new artist a larger fan base and the magazine a larger readership. These new artists can also make reading music magazine more interesting. I address the audience in a way to make them feel involved and also make them imagine how things are in an interview. I want the reader to feel involved with the magazine and which they belong to this readership by using words which are informal however to entertain and inform an audience.
  • 13. 6. What have you learnt about technology from the process of constructing this product? While I have been creating my product I have had difficulty putting together my magazine and how I should do it. The software I used was Paint and Microsoft Publisher to create the final product, which made then the process of piecing everything together very simple when laying it out onto the page and how I wanted it. I used my own camera to take photos for the magazine which was easy to import these into Publisher. I was happy with how the programme could create and organise my work to perfection as well with a little bit of patience. I have learnt the demand and the consistency you need when making a magazine and also keeping to your aims of what you actually want to put across in your magazine. And I have also learnt the importance of saving my work!
  • 14. 7. Looking back at your preliminary Task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? From the preliminary Task I have learnt a lot in the process of layout, text, features and also talk points to write about. Between the two magazines shown below I can see the difference I have made in the process to the final product. I have learnt you don't need as much writing on the front cover, align things up to make them more presentable, use colours to highlight key areas you want to be seen and also use the whole page and don’t leave no white gaps!
