As the stars lit up in the big apple and the sun set down towards the west creating a small fog of air around us, me and my sister decided to take a

"The Ballad of Orange and Grape," by Muriel Rukeyser, is about the frustration towards lack of change and effort to improve a poverty–stricken
community. The poem begins with the speaker walking down the street of East Harlem to a hot dog stand. At the hot dog stand, the vendor is refilling
the drink machines where he knowingly pours the grape drink in the container labeled "orange" and the orange drink in the container labeled "grape,"
causing speaker to get frustrated with the disregard for the importance of language and words. In response to her frustration, the vendor smiles and
ignores the mistake, continuing to pour the drinks. In this poem, the speaker is symbolic of progressive, educated individuals, the hot dog vendor
represents society, and the labels "orange" and "grape" represent the significance of words. Words are significant because they are a critical piece of
education. Educating East Harlem will decrease crime and improve the financial status of residents, leading them out of poverty and creating a safer
more comfortable city.
Rukeyser uses the setting of this poem to paint a picture in order to cause the reader to feel the discomfort, the danger, and the dash of hope that exists
in East Harlem. This emotional appeal is called Logos. Rukeyser begins by directly describing the setting as a "blistering afternoon in East Harlem in
the twentieth century" (7–8). These two lines quickly introduce a distasteful setting. Excessive heat is associated with pain and unpleasant moods and
East Harlem in the twentieth century was a place of crime and high mortality rates, evoking fear in the readers. Rukeyser goes on to further describe
the setting in the second stanza, writing about the boarded up windows, rats, drug addiction center, and criminals (9–14). Rukeyser uses repetition in
her writing to depict the enduring condition of the city. For example, the author repeats the word "after" in the first stanza to indicate the normality of
the workday and imply the tiresome everyday reality of this city, rather than this particular day being a special occasion. Although there is primarily

control group is to observe any discrepancies that occurs between it and the other groups tested, thus helping display the effectiveness or usefulness of

temperature was 28 degrees Celsius, the coldest temperatures of the hot dogs ranged from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, so for the groups that measured
their hot dogs' temperature quicker, they gave their hot dogs a head start in the warming process. For groups that were not as quick with their
measurements, their hot dogs starting warming up at a later time, so by the time the experiment was over, their temperatures would have been lower
than the groups that measured quickly. We did not control these outside variables because we did not increase or decrease the room temperature by

Since I can remember I have struggled with self–confidence. I have always cared too much about what other people think of me. It inhibited my life
in a way. I wouldn't go out and go to parties, or try out for sports teams. Being shy doesn't help with this either. However, I made a decision in high
school that to this day, I am still shocked I made. I decided to try and gain confidence, and so I did my high school Survivor. As a result from this
experience, I learned how to put myself out there. I learned that I can do hard things as well as work well outside of my comfort zone. I gained
confidence in myself and I conquered my fear of not doing things out of the fact that I may get embarrassed. The Survivor activity I did at my high
school is based off the show "Survivor". I signed my life away for a week. I chose to live at the school for a full week (only if I make it to the end) to
test my social skills and war strategy. The first day was the most nerve–racking. I remember walking to the front doors of the high school at 6:00 A.M..

to "hurry up." When another man came to buy a paper, Mr. Johnson quickly stole hiswallet and hid it in a secret pocket in his jacket. Then he acted
extremely apologetic when the man couldn't find it and even paid the 60 cents for the paper, so as to not seem suspicious. When he had walked a
few blocks away from the newspaper stand Mr. Johnson hunched over some and began to walk slowly. He arrived at a crosswalk and then started to
painfully cross it. A naive woman quickly ran up and said "Would you like me to assist you, sir?"

When I was given this assignment I was expecting to end up reading something a little difficult to follow and full of bland material that was written
as colorfully as possible, making reading a book about economics bearable. This book was quit the opposite. The book did not consist of GDP,
exchange rates, economic trends, international stage, mixed capitalism or finance. Instead, the book told stories of world record hot dog eaters, the
similarities between famous musicians and kings, self–driven vehicles, ping–pong competitions, babies bribed with candy, and the discovery of the
