2. 1 John 3:1-3 Behold what manner of love
the Father has bestowed on us, that we
should be called children of God!
Therefore the world does not know us,
because it did not know Him. {2} Beloved,
now we are children of God; and it has not
yet been revealed what we shall be, but
we know that when He is revealed, we
shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as
He is. {3} And everyone who has this hope
in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
3. AMAZING
A. Behold! Look! Take notice!
B. Something amazing.
C. What is John going to tell us that is so
amazing.
4. I. AMAZING LOVE - Vs. 1 -
Behold what manner of
love the Father has
bestowed on us, that we
should be called children of
God! Therefore the world
does not know us, because
it did not know Him.
5. I. AMAZING LOVE - Vs. 1
A. GOD GAVE HIS SON - (1 John 4:9-11) In this the love of
God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His
only begotten Son into the world, that we might live
through Him. {10} In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the
propitiation for our sins. {11} Beloved, if God so loved us,
we also ought to love one another.
B. WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS - (Rom 5:6-9) For when
we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for
the ungodly. {7} For scarcely for a righteous man will one
die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even
dare to die. {8} But God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died
for us. {9} Much more then, having now been justified by
His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
6. I. AMAZING LOVE - Vs. 1
C. GOD IS FOR US - (Rom 8:31-39) What then shall we say to these
things? If God is for us, who can be against us? {32} He who did
not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall
He not with Him also freely give us all things? {33} Who shall
bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. {34}
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore
is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also
makes intercession for us. {35} Who shall separate us from the
love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or
famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? {36} As it is written:
"For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as
sheep for the slaughter." {37} Yet in all these things we are more
than conquerors through Him who loved us. {38} For I am
persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor
principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
{39} nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be
able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
7. II. AMAZING LIKENESS - Vs.
2 - Beloved, now we are
children of God; and it has
not yet been revealed what
we shall be, but we know
that when He is revealed,
we shall be like Him, for we
shall see Him as He is.
8. II. AMAZING LIKENESS - Vs. 2
A. 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face,
beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just
as by the Spirit of the Lord.
B. Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, since you
have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put
on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according
to the image of Him who created him,
C. Ephesians 4:22-24 that you put off, concerning your
former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the
spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man
which was created according to God, in true
righteousness and holiness.
9. III. AMAZING LIVING -
Vs. 3 - And everyone
who has this hope in
Him purifies himself,
just as He is pure.
10. III. AMAZING LIVING - Vs. 3
A. 1 John 3:4-9 Whoever commits sin also commits
lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know
that He was manifested to take away our sins, and
in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him
does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him
nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive
you. He who practices righteousness is righteous,
just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil,
for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He
might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever
has been born of God does not sin, for His seed
remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has
been born of God.
11. III. AMAZING LIVING - Vs. 3
B. 1 Peter 1:14-19 as obedient children, not conforming
yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15
but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all
your conduct, 16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I
am holy." 17 And if you call on the Father, who without
partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct
yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in
fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with
corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless
conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but
with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without
blemish and without spot.
C. 2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises,
beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of
the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of
God.
