we all need motivation at times. what motivates you? Paul said 5 things to the brethren at Rome to motivate them to continue their service no matter how great the suffering became. the good always outweighs the bad. the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. God's providence works for us. Judgment is on our behalf. the love of God is on our behalf.
As we walk the long and dusty road of life,
wearied it may be, and even faint, yet let us
well watch whether we may not find some
treasures along the way, gems of divine bless-
ing for our cheer, stones of rough trouble that
may be smoothed and polished into glistening
gems ; gems of a forlorn humanity that may
be worked into brilliants for the crown of
Christ, gems of sweet and holy truths.
2 Corinthians 5:14-17. Are you ready to live for Jesus.
I. AM I SEEING TO IT THAT MY THOUGHTS ARE RIGHT?
II. AM I SEEING TO IT THAT MY ATTITUDES AND MOTIVES ARE RIGHT?
III. AM I SEEING TO IT THAT MY ACTIONS ARE RIGHT?
IV. AM I READY TO GIVE ACCOUNT TO GOD?
Want to have a good marriage? Choose the right person. Probably just as important is to be the right person. How do you determine what it means to be the right person?
Look at the teaching of Jesus on the beatitudes. Matthew 5:3-11. By examining the characteristics outlined here for the citizen in the kingdom of heaven one can put together an image of what is needed in marriage.

God has been encouraging me to pray the promises He has given me. It is not just enough to read them but pray them into being. Just like the parable of the sower and the seeds in Mathew 13, the enemy will try to rob us of what God has for us if we are not careful. We, like Joshua, should meditate on the word of God day and night. By doing this, the word gets into our hearts and not just stays in our heads.

Lesson 19 of 26 in a series of New Testament Vistas. This sermon on Romans 5-8 was presented May 6, 2012, at Palm Desert Church of Christ, by Dale Wells.
Genesis 47:13-15 Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. 14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house. 15 So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed." There are a number of reasons that money fails.
I beseech you – beg, urge, encourage, appeal
By the mercies of God – compassion
Present your bodies a living sacrifice – as opposed to a sacrifice of death
Holy, Acceptable to God – pure, without spot or blemish
Your reasonable service – since Christ died for us we should live our lives for him. 2 Corinthians 5:15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
John 3:16 is the most quoted and most remembered scripture from the bible.
Did you know that there are a number of other 3:16 verses that relate to and are very important to our spiritual lives and our living for Jesus?
Tonight we are going to look at some of those 3:16 scriptures.
Philippians 1:9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Fear is common to all. We all fear something. Some fear is God given. Children come into this world with a fear of heights and of loud noises. Some fears are there to protect us from physical harm: snakes, darkness, suffocation, being burned, death, etc. In christians, most fear is a tool of satan
Brotherly love has amazed many people throughout the centuries. Love of the brethren is commanded by God. Brotherly love mus be worked at to achieve. problems in the church are either directly or indirectly connected to lack of love for one another. love is the key to a growing or even a surviving church.

Wonderful in His accomplishing His work. Wonderful in His fulfilling prophecies. Wonderful in His sacrifice. Wonderful in His resurrection. Wonderful is His Name.
Isaiah 9:6-7 Jesus would be called or known as Mighty God. Prophecies said he would be God. John said He was Creator and God. Jesus claimed to be God. Thomas said He was God. Paul said He was Creator. Paul called Him God. John said Jesus was the True God.
Isaiah 9:6-7 His name will be called or He would be known as counselor. He is a counselor who understands your struggles. He is a counselor who cares for you. He is a counselor who is committed to you.
I John 2:28-3:3 Tests for Christians. Do you abide in Christ? Do you practice righteousness? Who knows you? Are you a child of God? Are you pure, just as He is pure? What is your identity?
I John 4:1-6 tests for christians 3 - the test of false teaching. Bluffing your way. Do you confess the Son? Do you listen to the Son? Do you obey the Son? Do you pass the test?
Ephesians 3:14-21 How big is your God? The ability of my God is boundless. The ability of my God goes beyond my prayers. The ability of my God is beyond my ability to imagine. The ability of my God is manifested in the lives of His people. The ability of my God is seen through His glorious church. The ability of my God is eternal.
The resurrection of jesus is a prevarication (spoken against), a plethora (great number) of witnesses, a proven fact, a purpose to save us. a plea to live worthy, a pattern for us to follow, a power from God, a promise for us, to believe in, a pledge by our savior.
Isaiah 9:6-7 Jesus would be called or know as the Prince of Peace. He brings peace through salvation. He brings peace through the Spirit. He brings peace through the scriptures. He brings peace through service. He brings peace through our following His guidance. He brings peace through being in Him. He brings peace through our being spiritually minded. He brings peace through answering our prayers. He brings peace through His blood. He brings peace through our pursuit of peace. He brings peace through Knowledge. He brings peace through our being peacemakers.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Romans 8:18-21 For I consider that the
sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory
which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the
earnest expectation of the creation
eagerly waits for the revealing of the
sons of God. 20 For the creation was
subjected to futility, not willingly, but
because of Him who subjected it in
hope; 21 because the creation itself
also will be delivered from the bondage
of corruption into the glorious liberty of
the children of God.
3. MOTIVATION
A.From time to time we all need motivation.
B.Motivation is that drive that forces us to
continue in the face of opposition, no
matter how great or how small it may be.
C.One of the greatest needs of the Christian
is to have an awareness that God has
given us motivation to help us when we
come under any opposition.
D.If we are doing what God has commanded
us, and living in the way that we should,
we will suffer in some way. 2 Timothy
3:12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly
in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
4. MOTIVATION
E. Suffering does not always mean stripes,
death, or scars.
F. There will always be suffering when
righteousness prevails in our life.
G.We need some kind of motivation to help
us endure the sufferings of the day.
H.There are 5 things that Paul said to
motivate the brethren at Rome to suffer
with Christ, and to continue their service
no matter how great the suffering
becomes.
5. I. THE SCALES ARE
ON OUR BEHALF
<><><>
THE GOOD
ALWAYS OUT-
WEIGHS THE BAD.
6. I. THE GOOD ALWAYS OUT-
WEIGHS THE BAD.
Romans 8:18-25 For I consider that the sufferings of
this present time are not worthy to be compared with the
glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest
expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the
revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was
subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him
who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself
also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption
into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we
know that the whole creation groans and labors with
birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we
also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we
ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for
the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we
were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not
hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait
for it with perseverance.
7. I. THE GOOD ALWAYS OUT-
WEIGHS THE BAD.
A. Encouraged by the glory to be given to us
- Romans 8:18-19 For I consider that the
sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory
which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the
earnest expectation of the creation
eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons
of God.
1. We misunderstand Glory. - Examples:
streets of gold, gates of pearl,
mansions, etc.
8. I. THE GOOD ALWAYS OUT-
WEIGHS THE BAD.
A. Encouraged by the glory to be given – Rom
8:18-19
1. We misunderstand Glory. - Examples: streets
of gold, gates of pearl, mansions, etc.
2. The creation will be delivered from
corruption - Romans 8:20-22. For the
creation was subjected to futility, not
willingly, but because of Him who subjected
it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also
will be delivered from the bondage of
corruption into the glorious liberty of the
children of God. 22 For we know that the
whole creation groans and labors with birth
pangs together until now.
9. I. THE GOOD ALWAYS OUT-
WEIGHS THE BAD.
3. Our bodies will be redeemed. We have
something to hope for. – Romans 8:23-25. Not
only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of
the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within
ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the
redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in
this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for
why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But
if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly
wait for it with perseverance.
B. You suffer, if the need be, but you remember that
no matter how bad it gets, the good is far better.
11. 2. WE HAVE HELP THE
HOLY SPIRIT
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit
also helps in our weaknesses. For we
do not know what we should pray for
as we ought, but the Spirit Himself
makes intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts
knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He makes intercession for the
saints according to the will of God.
12. 2. WE HAVE HELP THE SPIRIT.
A. HE communicates to the Godhead the things that man
is not capable of saying.
B. What God says is that "I UNDERSTAND" what you are
going through.
C. Hebrews 2:14-15 Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared
in the same, that through death He might destroy him
who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and
release those who through fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage.
D. Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High
Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the
Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we
do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with
our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we
are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to
the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
E. Our Jesus knows because he has been here.
13. 2. WE HAVE HELP THE SPIRIT.
SONG 538: "My Jesus Knows"
My Jesus knows when I am lonely,
He knows each pain, He sees each tear;
He understands each lonely heartache,
He understands because He cares.
My Jesus knows when I am burdened,
He knows how much my heart can bear;
He lifts me up when I am sinking,
And brings me joy beyond compare.
When other friends seem to forget me,
When skies are dark, when hope is gone;
By faith I feel His arms about me,
And hear Him say, “You’re not alone.”
My Jesus knows just what I need,
O, yes, He knows just what I need;
He satisfies, and every need supplies,
Yes, He knows just what I need.
15. 3. GOD'S PROVIDENCE
Romans 8:28-30 And we know that all
things work together for good to those who
love God, to those who are the called
according to His purpose. 29 For whom He
foreknew, He also predestined to be
conformed to the image of His Son, that He
might be the firstborn among many
brethren. 30 Moreover whom He
predestined, these He also called; whom He
called, these He also justified; and whom He
justified, these He also glorified.
16. 3. GOD'S PROVIDENCE
A. God's providence is working behind the scenes
to work things out for our good. - Example: A
"Master Weaver" works behind the work of a
young man who is trying to learn to weave and
makes his mistakes work out to a beautiful
pattern.
B. God says, "Hang on. I can take the worst that
they can do to you and work it out for your
good.“
C. Bad in itself happening to a person is not good.
1. God is able to take that bad and make it good.
2. Example: The CROSS.
D. No matter what they do, you will be glorified.
18. 4. JUDGMENT IS IN OUR BEHALF
Romans 8:31-34 What then shall we
say to these things? If God is for us,
who can be against us? 32 He who
did not spare His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall
He not with Him also freely give us all
things? 33 Who shall bring a charge
against God's elect? It is God who
justifies. 34 Who is he who
condemns? It is Christ who died, and
furthermore is also risen, who is even
at the right hand of God, who also
makes intercession for us.
19. 4. JUDGMENT IS IN OUR BEHALF
A. When God comes in the day of judgment, who
will be able to bring a charge against you to
keep you out of heaven?
1. Not the FATHER... v.31-33.
a. He is for us.
b. He gave His Son for us.
c. He will freely give us all things.
2. Not the SON... v.34.
a. He died for us.
b. He arose for us.
c. He ascended for us.
d. He is interceding for us.
B. YOU are the only thing that will keep you out of
heaven.
21. V. WE HAVE THE LOVE OF GOD
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from
the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your
sake we are killed all day long; We are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 37 Yet in
all these things we are more than conquerors
through Him who loved us. 38 For I am
persuaded that neither death nor life, nor
angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things
present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor
depth, nor any other created thing, shall be
able to separate us from the love of God which
is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
22. V. WE HAVE THE LOVE OF GOD
A.No matter what happens to you,
remember, God loves you.
B.God's people have always had to suffer -
Romans 8:36 As it is written: "For Your
sake we are killed all day long; We are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
C.In spite of all our suffering. We are more
than conquerors.
D.The only thing that can come between you
and Jesus is your disobedience to Him.
23. YOUR MOTIVATION?
A.Have lost your motivation to serve God.
B.Realize today that everything is working
in your behalf.
C.God will take care of you, just be
FAITHFUL.
D.The first part of Romans chapter 8 gives
us great assurance and motivation for
living the Christian life.
24. YOUR MOTIVATION?
D. There is no condemnation to those in Christ -
Romans 8:1-17 There is therefore now no
condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,
who do not walk according to the flesh, but
according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of
life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law
of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in
that it was weak through the flesh, God did by
sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh,
on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be
fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the
flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who
live according to the flesh set their minds on the
things of the flesh, but those who live according to
the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. >>>
25. YOUR MOTIVATION?
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not
subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So
then, those who are in the flesh cannot please
God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit,
if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if
anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not
His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead
because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of
righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who
raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who
raised Christ from the dead will also give life to
your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells
in you.
26. YOUR MOTIVATION?
E. We are debtors to live for Him - Romans 8:13-
14Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to
the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if
you live according to the flesh you will die; but
if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the
body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by
the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
F. We are children of God and Heirs – Romans
8:15-17 For you did not receive the spirit of
bondage again to fear, but you received the
Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba,
Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with
our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if
children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs
with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we
may also be glorified together.
