Repentance is a change in your allegiance, your expectations, your values, your priorities, your mission and your morals. can you say there has been a change in your life since you met the Lord?
2. Acts 3:18-21 But those things which
God foretold by the mouth of all His
prophets, that the Christ would suffer,
He has thus fulfilled. 19 Repent
therefore and be converted, that your
sins may be blotted out, so that times
of refreshing may come from the
presence of the Lord, 20 and that He
may send Jesus Christ, who was
preached to you before, 21 whom
heaven must receive until the times of
restoration of all things, which God has
spoken by the mouth of all His holy
prophets since the world began.
3. REPENTANCE
A.The Biblical definition of repentance is “to change one’s
mind.”
B.The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a
change of actions
1. Luke 3:8-14 Therefore bear fruits worthy of
repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We
have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God
is able to raise up children to Abraham from these
stones. 9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the
trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good
fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." 10 So the
people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?"
11 He answered and said to them, "He who has two
tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who
has food, let him do likewise." 12 Then tax collectors
also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher,
what shall we do?" 13 And he said to them, "Collect no
more than what is appointed for you." 14 Likewise the
soldiers asked him, saying, "And what shall we do?"
So he said to them, "Do not intimidate anyone or
accuse falsely, and be content with your wages."
4. REPENTANCE
2.Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted,
that your sins may be blotted out, so that
times of refreshing may come from the
presence of the Lord,
3.Acts 26:20 but declared first to those in
Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout
all the region of Judea, and then to the
Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God,
and do works befitting repentance.
C. The full biblical definition of repentance is a
change of mind that results in a change of
action. In terms of the kingdom, it involves a
change in the following six areas.
5. I. A CHANGE IN ALLEGIANCE
A. Kingdom citizens submit their own will to the
will of the King.
1. Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will
be done On earth as it is in heaven.
2. Romans 6:12-18 Therefore do not let sin
reign in your mortal body, that you should
obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present
your members as instruments of
unrighteousness to sin, but present
yourselves to God as being alive from the
dead, and your members as instruments of
righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not
have dominion over you, for you are not
under law but under grace. 15 What then?
Shall we sin because we are not under law
but under grace? Certainly not! >>>
6. I. A CHANGE IN ALLEGIANCE
16 Do you not know that to whom you present
yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's
slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to
death, or of obedience leading to
righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that
though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed
from the heart that form of doctrine to which you
were delivered. 18 And having been set free from
sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
3. Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters;
for either he will hate the one and love the other,
or else he will be loyal to the one and despise
the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
4. Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me,
'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
B. The Lord deserves our loyalty and obedience.
7. 2. A CHANGE IN EXPECTATIONS
A. If all one lives for is TODAY, tomorrow will
grow very unappealing.
B. If there is no hope for the future, there is no
power for TODAY.
1. Acts 1:9-11 Now when He had spoken
these things, while they watched, He was
taken up, and a cloud received Him out of
their sight. 10 And while they looked
steadfastly toward heaven as He went up,
behold, two men stood by them in white
apparel, 11 who also said, "Men of Galilee,
why do you stand gazing up into heaven?
This same Jesus, who was taken up from
you into heaven, will so come in like
manner as you saw Him go into heaven."
8. 2. A CHANGE IN EXPECTATIONS
2. John 14:1-6 "Let not your heart be troubled; you
believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's
house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I
go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and
receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may
be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you
know." 5 Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know
where You are going, and how can we know the way?"
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
3. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 and to give you who are
troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed
from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire
taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and
on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord
Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord
and from the glory of His power,
C. The Lord deserves our anticipation of heaven.
9. 3. A CHANGE IN VALUES
A. Our culture values success, appearance, image,
wealth and independence.
B. The values of Kingdom citizens adopt the King’s
values and make decisions and choices that reflect
His values.
1. Luke 6:40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but
everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his
teacher.
2. 1 John 2:3-6 Now by this we know that we know
Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who
says, "I know Him," and does not keep His
commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in
him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love
of God is perfected in him. By this we know that
we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him
ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
C. The Lord deserves our imitation of Him.
10. 4. A CHANGE IN PRIORITIES
A. Priorities reflect personal allegiance, expectations and
values.
B. It also determines how I will spend my time and money.
C. Kingdom citizens prioritize their time and money to
benefit the King and His Kingdom.
D. Matthew 6:24-34 "No one can serve two masters; for
either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he
will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and mammon. 25 "Therefore I say to
you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or
what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will
put on. Is not life more than food and the body more
than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they
neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value
than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one
cubit to his stature? 27 Which of you by worrying can
add one cubit to his stature? >>>
11. 4. A CHANGE IN PRIORITIES
28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the
lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor
spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so
clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and
tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much
more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do
not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we
drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For after all these
things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father
knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first
the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all
these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not
worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its
own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
E. Unless the King occupies FIRST place in out life, He
occupies NO place.
F. The Lord deserves our full attention.
12. 5. A CHANGE IN MISSION
A. Those with no mission in life are aimless and
unproductive.
B. James calls them, “double minded.”
C. The King wants His followers fulfil His mission.
1.Luke 19:9-10 And Jesus said to him, "Today
salvation has come to this house, because he
also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of
Man has come to seek and to save that which
was lost."
2.1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him
ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
3.2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that you have
heard from me among many witnesses,
commit these to faithful men who will be able
to teach others also.
D. The Lord deserves our devotion to his cause.
13. 6. A CHANGE IN MORALS
A. A person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning
what is and is not acceptable for them to do. (Concept
of right and wrong)
B. Things you once thought were right you now realize are
wrong.
1. 2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces
repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted;
but the sorrow of the world produces death.
2. Romans 6:20-23 For when you were slaves of sin,
you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What
fruit did you have then in the things of which you are
now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
22 But now having been set free from sin, and having
become slaves of God, you have your fruit to
holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the
wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
C. The Lord deserves our willingness to change our
concept of right and wrong.
14. HAS THERE BEEN A
CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE
A.Can you say, “There’s a change in
my life since I met my Lord?”
B.Repentance will turn your life around
like nothing else will!
C.Do you need to repent?
