The document discusses how some among the Corinthians were saying there is no resurrection of the dead. The author argues that if there is no resurrection then Christ could not have been raised, their preaching is in vain, they would be false witnesses of God, faith is worthless, people who have died in Christ have perished, and those who have hoped in Christ in this life alone are most pitied. The document is a series of slides discussing how faith is based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead according to scripture.

Is it true that Jesus was raised from the dead? Well, the Old Testament and Jesus prophesied the event, Peter preached it, Paul proclaimed it and many people saw Him. But what is the significance? If Jesus is still in the tomb, our preaching and faith is in vain; we are still in our sins; our dead have perished. 1Corinthians 15:12-19

What is our moral compass? Everyone has some theological moral compass. As a Christian, our moral compass should be the word of God. Many in the world use television, social media, the teachings of men, parents, or their college professor as their guideline for formulating their moral compass. How do Christians point the way to Christ and His word as a compass of right and wrong?

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Hopeful or Hopeless
1.
2. 12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead,
how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been
raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain,
your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false
witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised
Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For
if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if
Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your
sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have
perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all
men most to be pitied.

a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

sneer, but others said, "We shall hear you again concerning this."

5. “Some among you say that there is no
resurrection of the dead?”
Problem #1 Then how could Christ have risen from the dead?
Problem #2 Their (the apostles') preaching is in vain
Problem #3 The apostles are false witnesses of the
resurrection
Problem #4 Your faith is worthless
Problem #5 You are still in your sins
Problem #6 Our loved ones who have passed on have
perished

Slide 6 of 17
7. 9 For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men
condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the
world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but
you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are
distinguished, but we are without honor. 11 To this present hour we are
both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are roughly
treated, and are homeless; 12 and we toil, working with our own
hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we
endure; 13when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have
become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until
now.

8. 10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience,
love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as
happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what
persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!
12Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be
persecuted.

9. 1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to
you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also
you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you,
unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first
importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according
to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on
the third day according to the Scriptures

13. 1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained
our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult
in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our
tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and
perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and
hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured
out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

14. 19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and

according to the order of Melchizedek.

15. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed
through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot
sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all
things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with
confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help in time of need.

16. 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ
Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been
buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might
walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the
likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His
resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in
order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would
no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

Editor's Notes
“some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?”-->
Paul's conclustion -->
What did Paul mean by, “We are of all men most to be pitied?”What did Paul give up (sacrifice) for Christ? -->
What have we given up or sacrificed to follow Christ? Would our lives be any different if Christ had not been raised from the dead?
If we have desired to live godly in Christ Jesus, and if we have suffered persecution, in whatever form, if Christ did not arise from the dead, we suffered needlessly because our faith, “The assurance of things hoped for” is in vain becaue it is based upon the resurrection.
The gospel is the resurrection of Christ. We base our hope on what we have learned and believed from the gospel!
Why do you believe what you believe? What is your faith based on???
