Statement Of Purpose For Aviation
Aviation has always been a part of my life for as long as I could remember. My mom was a flight
attendant and my dad was an aircraft engineer. In a way, my relationship with aviation started even
before I was born, as even when my mom was pregnant, she still had to work on flights everyday. I
remembered looking forward to going to daycare at the airport and my parents often tell me that I
would lean against the windows for hours watching planes take off and land. My passion for
aviation has never been lost, as I still enjoy plane spotting at YVR on the weekends where I try to
identify the different types of aircraft, ranging from the Airbus A320 to the Boeing 777–300ER. I
enjoy the rush of excitement when I see and hear planes fly above me after takeoff. It always amazes
me how human innovation can create a machine weighing over 775000kg to gracefully fly into the
sky. Whenever I go on vacation, I always film taking off and landing, and I make sure my parents
give me time at the airport, as I enjoy walking around with my camera taking photos of planes and
airlines that I usually don't see at YVR. I also enjoy visiting aviation museums and seeing airplanes
which were used in the past. At home, I have a growing collection of aircraft models, and I am
always looking for opportunities to buy more models to add to my collection. In my spare time, I
play on my flight simulator, which allows me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also hope that I will be able to learn techniques that will allow me to better communicate with

Descriptive Essay On Pitter Patter
Pitter patter. Pitter patter. Little droplets of water consumed everyone in its path. People fleeing from
all directions, up and down, left to right on narrow pathways to find shelter. Soon after, the light
'pitter patter' of rain turned into wet thuds as the icy water raced to meet the ground. It was a
torrential downpour. I sat patiently in my business–class seat, inattentively flicking through the
flight magazin, waiting for departure. Occasionally, my gaze would capture worried eyes of other
passengers, turning from left to right, backwards and forward. Why were they worried? Ignoring the
worried atmosphere surrounding me, I switched focus to the flight attendants conducting the same
safety brief, in which I observe too often. Robotically and unenthusiastically they explained the use
of an oxygen mask in an event of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was there to do on a plane for a day? The only thing that could be done was watching movies.
A male flight attendant then walked down the aisle, approaching towards me, and asked, "Mr Smith,
is there anything you need?" I gulped, confused at first. "Mr Who?" I responded back, only to
received another confused look from the male flight attendant. I then realised who he was talking to
and laughed it off and replied "Could you please give me a blanket and a pillow, please? Thank you"
Not long after, I comfortably sat in my business class seat and immediately chose the "V for
Vendetta" movie, as it was my all time favourite. Half way during the movie, I came to a realisation
how the protagonist was wearing a mask, the Guy Fawkes Mask, it was funny how his insecurity of
his face, made him cover his identity. Why does he not reveal himself, and become the face of a
protest which could potentially lead to new discoveries and perspectives of world's. Drifting further
into reverie, I closed my eyes and imagined myself standing on the middle of the

Taking a Look at Singapore Airlines
International aviation industry is a risky and highly competitive industry, which has to be obligated
many strictly safety requirements as well as fluctuated by internal and external factories. New risk
factors continue to occur in recent years, similar like to 9/11 accident, the international aviation
industry has seen a wave of bankruptcies and the Asian financial crisis, SARS breaking, high oil
prices, the global financial tsunami, volcanic eruption in Iceland, etc., constitute new challenges for
the airline industry, they should re–examine the development strategies and policies.
In the following tenses, I'm going to explore and analyze how Singapore Airlines successes on its
business level strategy application in such hyper–competitive business environment with achieve
wider gains and recognition.
Background of Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines has founding in 1972, evolving from a regional airline to one of the most
respected travel brands around the world. Singapore Airlines is also Singapore's national airline,
which in Changi Airport as a base, the main operating on international routes, has a strong route
network in Southeast Asia, East Asia and South Asia, and occupy the Kangaroo route (especially
between Europe and Australasia between Eastern Hemisphere stopping passenger routes) part of the
market. In addition, there are also flights across the Pacific.
Its brand is well known in the aviation industry, particularly in the security, quality of service

The Risks And Hazards Behind Fatigue And Stress
Abstract The purpose with this research paper is to identify and understand the risks and hazards
behind fatigue and stress that each flight attendant has experienced or still experiencing, due to lack
of human factor improvements concerning, working schedule, time zone difference, pressure and
stress due to fatigue. Nearly everyone in any work position can face fatigue at come point.
Depending on the type of work and how much responsibility the employer has in the aviation
industry, the stress level increases followed by the fatigue. Stress is defined as pressure that affects a
person both physically and emotionally. The human body raises a challenge and preparing to face
tough situations with focus and strength. The stress level is different from body to body and it also
varies from time to time. However; fatigue is the description to lack of motivation and energy both
physically and mentally, which causes a decrease in performance and alertness. Flight attendants job
is one of many jobs in the aviation industry where it is very usual to experience stress as well as
fatigue, that can reduce the ability of awareness of risks and hazards that may occur, later lead to
major accidents or incidents. Crew resource management should be practiced by all personnel
regularly and applied to improve safety, especially in such industry where many humans lives are
involved daily. Aside from crew resource management, control is very important and should be
applied as a human factor

Creative Story : A Short Story
––– "Sango, Toll Gate, Pleasure, Ile Epo! Sango, Toll Gate, Pleasure, Ile Epo!" the conductor
screamed as he walked towards Toyosi, his right hand stretched out, shoulder slouched. She
squeezed her face and eyed him, his white singlet stained with black and brown spots and streaks.
His fingers were dark with engine oil and dirt stains, his fingernails half eaten. He pulled up his
shorts to his waist but it immediately started falling off again. His singlet, rolled up slightly over his
belly, revealed his dark midriff and his even darker, loose boxer shorts; they too were almost falling
off. He stretched out his right hand again as he approached Toyosi, as if he wanted to help with the
bag she was carrying but she tried to avoid him, swerving and throwing her face away. She wasn't
about to let him contaminate her goods. "Iyana Ipaja?" she asked. "Fifty naira. Enter with your
change o. I no get change," he said, pulling his right ear, head tilted to the side as if warning her of
impending doom. "Na 500 I get o," she replied, dragging the 'o' like a heavy bag of rice on the floor.
"I don tell you now," the conductor retorted. "If you like, no hear word." "Una no dey ever get

weight noticeably depressed the bus and as she took a seat on the second row beside the window, the

Song Airlines Business Case Essay
Song Airlines Case
Song airline was a low cost carrier subsidiary of Delta airlines that started in 2003. It was formed to
compete with JetBlue and other low cost airlines for the Florida market. The market environment at
the time of the case was extremely difficult with the rising costs of fuel, increasing security
requirements after 9/11 and customers' expectations of lower fares. It has forced many big players in
the airline industry into bankruptcy. The operational costs which include gate fees, ground
operational costs etc. were increasing causing even more problems for the airlines. The fares in the
Florida route were decreasing while the costs were ever increasing making it difficult to remain
operational in that space.

7. Used novel techniques by opening concept stores in Boston and New York to attract customers.
Song Airlines spent a lot of time analyzing the past data and did a lot of market research to come up
these various strategy points. And I think, it clearly shows that they used experience curve
techniques to analyze and use the data like gate utilization, flight attendant working times, seat
usage, and flight route scheduling etc. to optimize the operational aspects of running the overall
operations. It was stated that based on these initiatives they achieved 20 – 25% lower operational
costs in running the airline as compared to running it in a Delta configuration. By using the various
main concepts like low fares, great services and targeted marketing they were able to achieve good
success. By focusing on the main strategy aspects simultaneously like lowering operational costs,
optimizing logistics, increasing the service level and perceive value by portraying a high end
service, Song was able to integrate these various aspects nicely.
Some of the key opportunities in the current market environment for airline industry are:
1. Increasing Customer service levels. Consumers are generally expecting more fro airlines and
Song has already addressed this in original strategy which was very customer satisfaction based.
2. Understanding the responding to changing consumer behavior patterns. This is something

Allegiant Air Financial Statement
Allegiant Air has had a financial successful story for what people would expect in the low cost
carrier markets of today. Allegiant is in its 45th consecutively profitable quarter which is excellent
when you consider they were out of bankruptcy in 2001 which makes them continually profitable
since 2003. The company has used strategies that avoid barriers imposed by larger and more
established carriers by using strategies such as using regional airports instead of major airports,
using terminals during off peak times, investments in fuel to curve prices, and assets that are low
cost to own and operate. Revenue was just short of a billion and were up 10% from 2012 (Annual
Report, 2014).
Allegiants largest expense as reported by their 2013 Annual Report is undoubtedly fuel, costing
41.6% in 2012 and 38.7% in 2013 (Figure 1). Steps to circumvent fuel costs have included buying
A319s which reduced fuel burn from 950 gallons per hour on MD80s to 725 gallons per hour in
addition to establishing contractual agreements with Orlando Sanford International and affiliates and
investments in fuel storage and transportation facilities. The second largest cost is salaries and
benefits at 14.7% of operating costs in 2012 and increased to 15.9% in 2013. The current workforce

company strategy. In 2013 the cost per ASM was 10.33 cent at 5.60 cent for non–fuel and 4.73 for
fuel. Allegiant states that these results were acquired through their focus on cost–driven scheduling,
low aircraft ownership costs, simple product, low distribution costs, and small city market

mood. When I was reading and going over this article

Flight Descriptive Speech
Huge white smiles and warm handshakes is the kind of welcoming everyone receives as they board
a plane. From the flight attendant's smiles to the pilot's "Welcome" an automatic feeling of
happiness hits you. That feeling of happiness clearly lets you know you have boarded a plane.
Stepping foot onto the plane you are automatically greeted by warm smiles and handshakes. Both
the flight attendant's and pilot's uniforms appear so clean and proper. As an attendant speaks, her
voice is almost considered annoying because of how screechy and preppy it sounds. Following the
guy in front of you, down the aisle, you feel like you're being towered over due to how tall he is.
Continuing slowly down the aisle your correct seat finally appears in front of you. You squat down
to pick up your bright blue hard shelled carry on suitcase to store in the overhead bin. Looking up
and putting your suitcase away you see it disappear as it falls gently back into the storage area. You
watch as various people around you slam their suitcases into their overhead bins and a loud bang is
sounded as the suitcase hits the back of the storage container. Looking down at your navy blue
leather seat you just know that seat will feel like sitting on a luxurious cloud. Grabbing the silver
part of the seat belt chills automatically run up your arms because that's just how cold the inside of
the airplane is. After everyone has boarded the plane has a slight sweaty disgusting smell because of

Comparison between London and Atlanta Based Airlines
How would the two airlines (London–based and Atlanta–based) be more reactive to the
requirements of the patrons while upholding equally operational efficiency and effectiveness?
Areas of concern
1. Environment. Clients have a higher standard on the London–based airline because of its past
performance for an exceptional service. Similarly, clients also presume that the high cost incurred
should be recompensed by superb provisions.
2. Information technology structure. Bearing in mind the facts provided in the case, McPherson
made a few suppositions that the airline flying to London should have acknowledged him from their
computer as a short timed– linking passenger, and that considering the premium price he paid for his
plane ticket by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the hydraulic system leaks should be watched closely in the near future to find out why this
mechanical problem occurred and the origin of the problem needs to be identified.
In an effort to rise to the customers' expectations of superior customer service, a cross reference
customer data base should be implemented with shared information. A possible color coded system
that would enable the airline agents and attendance as to the customers amount of travel is it a
business trip or leisure, main time of travel per year etc. All of this gathered customer data base
information would be beneficial if multiple parties throughout the airline had access to in in order to
follow up on any and all concerns of customer needs and specifications.
Assessment Criteria for Performance enhancement
The following are the suggested criteria in assessing the performance of airlines:
1. Operational accuracy. The planes departure and arrival times must be closely monitored in order
to maintain accuracy and adjust any unnecessary delays. Time is of the essence to the majority of
travelers, their travel plans are well thought out in advance and accuracy needs to be of the utmost
importance. If and when there is a delay in arrival or departure other than factors beyond the airlines
control, they should to be logged in and noted.
2. Quality control of mechanical equipment and facilities. Mechanical quality control records should
be updated

The Flight Attendant Training Program
Charles Lindbergh flew the first American Airlines flight on April 15, 1926 carrying U.S. mail from
St. Louis, Missouri to Chicago, Illinois (American Airlines). American Airlines flew United States
mail routes for about eight years until C.R. Smith and Donald Douglas created the DC–3 plane that
would change the airline industry. The DC–3 flew in service from New York to Chicago (American
Airlines). Over the years the company began to grow what it is today. American Airlines grew from
engineering the DC–3 to the DC–7 and eventually created new flight planes that would be able to
take passengers all over the United States and eventually overseas. American Airlines was the first
airline to create a specialized flight attendant training program (American Airlines). The airline
knew the importance of keeping its passengers comfortable during their flight. Finally, on October
16, 2015 U.S. Airways flew its last flight and on October 17, 2015 U.S. Airways and American
Airlines began to operate under one company. The key issues that are behind the American Airlines
and U.S. Airways merger is that when it all comes down to it is that once these two companies are
combines they will be better able to offer its customers better options according to Thomas C.
Lawton (2013). However, since two companies are becoming one the critics will argue that there
will be less competition in the airline industry especially since there seem only to be four major

A Story Of A Short Story
I'm sitting in my apartment in New York by the window with my coffee in my hand. My grey eyes
looking at the rain. It's raining just like that day. The day that happened three years ago, when i was

"YES SUMMER!" she yelled back while I was coming downstairs toward my mom.
"Can I go hang out with my friends?" I ask.
"No, not right now. Your dad is going to be home from the business trip tonight and you need to help
me cook dinner." she says.
"Oh, I thought he was coming next week." I say as I helped her get out the ingredients.
" Can I go tomorrow?" I ask looking at the calendar the time. It was 6:00, April 29th.
"Sure," she simply says. I start helping my mom cook. We were making pasta and I couldn't wait to

library, you okay alone?" she asks again. "Of course i'm fine," I say " by the way you need to tell
Amy that she needs to help us instead of sitting down!" My mom laughs, gets her keys, and heads

Essay on Magic Carpet Airlines Case Study
Case Study – Magic Carpet Airlines Week 4 September 22, 2013 1. What did the union do to
prepare for negotiations? What additional sources of information might it have used? What were the
union's primary objectives? The union began preparing by doing research to find out what other
similar airline carriers were supplying for their flight attendants (i.e. average working conditions,
benefits, and wage rates). They used government sources to compare wage, unemployment, and
cost–of–living data. LFA already knew the financial history of the company so they decided to

This strategy is quite bold and could lead the company to feel that they were not given a chance. In
return MCA could have harsh feelings toward the Union and not compromise as easily. The fourth
strategy was to only settle issues with unanimous consent from the negotiating committee. The
union planned on every person in the committee being at every meeting and they set the rule that
everyone had to agree to proceed. This is definitely not reasonable because there may be situations
when a member can't make a meeting. It is also not reasonable to say that everyone must agree.
There are times when this is not possible and it should have been planned for. Maybe the union
should have had a majority vote or even a 75% vote minimum. 3. What were the company's goals
and strategies? MCA went in to the first meeting trying to intimidate the Union. They were late,
rude, sarcastic, condescending, and unwilling to compromise on any issue that the Union brought
up. They went into the first meeting not wanting to change anything in the current contract. They
made it clear that they were not taking the negotiation seriously and they did not plan on coming to
an agreement unless it was on their terms in the beginning. 4. How did the deregulation of the airline
industry in the late 1970s influence labor relations at Magic Carpet Air? Before the Deregulation Act
of 1978, the airline industry was federally regulated in regards to

Analysis Of ' Allah Hu Akbar '
David Procter– Formal Writing
"Allah Hu Akbar" is portrayed as a war chant and terrorist motto by the media whenever there has
been a conflict around the world with Muslims or others with Middle Eastern descent. But it is
actually a prayer meaning "God is great." The media is wrongly portraying Muslims as terrorists,
Muslims follow the religion of Islam and since the attacks of 9/11 on the twin towers. Muslims,
especially in America, are suffering from discrimination from babies being forced off domestic
flights to American Muslims who were denied the second amendment of bearing arms. Even famous
musicians have been denied entry in the U.S because of their Islamic name, and Muslims not being
served un–opened cans of Coca–Cola as "it could be used as a weapon". This prejudice is creating
lethal stereotypes in today's society. The media have published articles that portray many Muslims
as terrorists. This has made many Americans believe that Muslims all have connections to Al Qaeda
and Taliban making everyone fear them in general. This discrimination is even effecting babies.
Riyanna Abdullah was an 18 month old child who was flying on a JetBlue flight from Florida back
to New Jersey. She was asked to leave the plane by flight attendants because she was on the no–fly
list. Riyanna shares the same name as a known terrorist (Islam uses similar names). Even when the

They're generous with time and space. Flight attendants don't get a lot of personal space. They share
their quarters with other flight attendants on longer trips. While flying, they have to put the customer
first, even if they may be just as exhausted from being in the air for ten or more hours. Flight
attendants have a cheerful attitude and uplift others under uncomfortable circumstances.
The primary role of a flight attendant is to provide excellent customer service, so it really helps if
you've worked in a similar role before. There are many types of jobs that count as customer service
experience: answering phones for a company, working in retail, or working at the front desk of a
small business all require interacting with and helping the public. This isn't a mandatory requirement
for all airlines, but it will help give you an edge.

Texas Narrative
Over the summer I took a trip to Texas to visit my friend and her family. I've flown two other times
before, but never by myself. Going on this trip was scary for me, but the challenges I overcame
helped me grow as a person.
It was a cool July morning when we headed off to the Omaha airport around 5 AM. I was more than
ready to be on vacation, but the thought of going through the airports alone gave me anxiety. When
we arrived, the anxiety only got worse. Since it was so early in the morning, not many people were
at the airport, so I was able to check my bag in right away. My mom and I headed upstairs to
security, where I had to say my goodbyes. I promised myself I wouldn't cry, but that was almost
impossible when my mom was already sobbing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had no idea where to go, so I decided to take my brother's advice and follow a nice looking family,
hoping they would lead me to the baggage claim. Once I got off the plane and into the airport, that
plan fell apart. It was packed with noisy people running around all over the place, with mini cars full
of people honking to get past. I soon lost the family I was following and ended up standing in the
sea of people. I found a flight attendant and asked for her help. She pointed me in the direction of
my baggage claim and told me what numbers to look for. After walking for what seemed like an
eternity, I finally found the room. Luckily, it took forever for the bags to come out, so I had time to
call my friend. They were lost trying to find what gate I was at, and since I was lost I couldn't help
them much. Once I spotted my bag, I decided to try and figure out how to get outside. As I made my
way around the terminal, I spotted an exit sign with the gate number on it. I told my friend the
number and waited outside by the road for them. I was scared to wait alone with all these strangers
surrounding me, it was causing my hands to get clammy. As I was waiting, three different men came
up to me and asked if I wanted to go downtown with them. That's when I really started to get a sick
feeling in my stomach. Luckily, as one was talking to me, my friend to save me from the awkward
encounter. I had so much fun on my trip, but the real problems started on my way

Personal Narrative-Kaitlyn
As he shoved his luggage into his overhead bin, he took a seat with exhaustion. Remembering all
the memories they've had at their grandparents house, when they were little. Now today would be
the day to relive all those fun and exciting memories, thought Jamerson. Jamerson knew he could be
able to show his Grandma Judy and Grandpa Jona, all the things he's learned from his practices in
football, soccer, and basketball. Kaitlyn had finally gotten a flight attendant to come over by her.
Kaitlyn began to speak, "Mrs, by any chance do you have wifi on here I could connect to?" The

maybe they were landing, but she thought wrong. She looked out the window thinking, "That

Accident investigators found that a replacement windscreen had been installed 27 hours before the
flight, and that the procedure had been approved by the Shift Maintenance Manager. "84 of the 90
windscreen retention bolts were 0.026 inches too small in diameter, while the remaining six were
0.1 inches too short" ("British airways flight 5390," ). The investigation revealed that the previous
windscreen had been fitted with incorrect bolts, which had been replaced on a "like for like" basis
by the Shift Maintenance Manager without reference to the maintenance documentation. The air
pressure difference between the cabin and the outside during the flight proved to be too much,
leading to the failure of the windscreen. The incident also brought to attention a design flaw in the
aircraft of the windscreen being secured from the outside of the aircraft, putting a greater stress on
the bolts than if they were secured from the inside. Investigators blamed the British Airways
Birmingham Airport Shift Maintenance Manager for installing the incorrect bolts during the
windscreen replacement and for failing to follow official British Airways policies. They also found
fault with British Airways' policies, which should have required testing or verification by another
person for this critical task. Finally, investigators blamed the local Birmingham Airport management

United Airlines Case Study
United Airlines is the most significant airline in the U.S. It has thousands of daily trips around
America. However, passengers find many issues on their flights at first class. Unfortunately,
complaints against airlines in the U.S. soared 70%. There are many problems happen before and
during flights with passengers, such as poor services for passengers, bad quality of food,
uncomfortable seats, and delay of baggage when the flight arrives.
People in the first class expect a good service with a high quality and quick process because they
pay overmuch money. However, sometimes passengers wait for a long time in waiting area, also the
process of chick in are very slow that makes passengers delay and get into the plane with the
economy passenger at the same time. In addition, the crews work without efficiency with
passengers. Many passengers are upset for not bring what they need quickly. For instant, one of the
passenger had a really strange case with United airline first class from San Francisco to Medford,
when the crew told him the trip is canceled because the crew wanted to take a nap. The crew was
disrespectful with the passengers because passengers were waiting for this flight for a long time in
the waiting area, and the crew should have changed instead of canceling the flight. That means
united airline doesn't care about the passengers. Moreover, there was passenger asked one of the
flight attendants to bring him a cup of water. Then, the flight attendants didn't turn up, when the
passenger asked her where is the water, she said I was busy and there are many passengers that I
should serve them. These are few examples of bad services, and there are many.
One of the most important things in the plane is the foods and drinks. Although the first class ticket
is very expensive, people pay for drinks in the airplane because they are not included in the ticket
cost. The cost of the wines and beers is very expensive. Moreover, People always complain that the
foods are not good that serve in the plane. They said the foods are not tasty, and limited. United only

Benefits Of A Flight Attendant
Working as a waitress in a bar or a restaurant, and working as a flight attendant may sound the same
but these are different types of careers. A flight attendant is a person who offers services to
customers in an aircraft. While a waitress or waiter, is a person who offers services to customers at a
table in a restaurant. Anybody can become a waitress. But to become a flight attendant, there are
certain requirements to meet up with such as; having a valid passport, a passed background checks,
a one to two years' experience in service occupation. A flight attendant need to undergo training and
take and exam and can only be awarded the license upon their success. Even though being a waitress
or a flight attendant may sound the same due to some similarities in providing services to customers,
and ensuring customer's safety, certain factors make these two careers different from each other. The
first difference between these two careers is the knowledge required. Apart from serving food and
drinks to customers, a flight attendant has a lot of weeks and months of training to undergo such as;
service training, customer's safety in case of an emergency, and layout such as how to open and lock
the door of the plain. Moreover, a waitress requires training too but not as vigorous as a flight
attendance. A waitress or a waiter needs to know the various menus, how they are being prepared,

The Effects of 9/11 on Airport Security
The September 11th attacks have had a profound effect on American history. Often referred to as
"9/11", these attacks were comprised of a group of organized terrorists known as Al–Qaeda. This
extreme Islamic group assaulted several landmarks in New York City, Washington D.C, and the state
of Pennsylvania. In New York City, two airliner jets were hijacked with passengers aboard and
slammed into the World Trade Center. "The next attack resulted in a plane colliding into the
Pentagon, government building; the last attack was in Pennsylvania when a plane crashed into a
field. In total, 3,000 people died on September 11th, 2001" (History.com Staff). The September
11th–attacks have affected airport security by the new training of flight attendants, the formation of
the Transportation Security Administration and new technical advances to keep up with increased
terror threats. News outlets interviewed people who had escaped people who had escaped the terror

images of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a
second Boeing 767–United Airlines Flight 175–appeared out of the sky, turned sharply toward the

massive explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below."

American Airlines Streamlining
United States airlines are currently enjoying a boom due to streamlining over the past few years,
streamlining that included mergers and acquisitions. The streamlining was because of many carriers
going bankrupt in the last decade, a situation that was attributed to generous base pay rates and work
rules negotiated by the unions as a result of previous good profits. The current boom is also
tempered by fractious labor relations between the airlines and staff. Delta Airlines suffered from
their pilots picketing in 2016. Southwest pushed back purchase of new airplanes partly because of
tensions with its pilots. This is despite the two airlines having a history of good labor relations
where they have awarded good remuneration to their workers, relations that have made them some
of the most financially successful airlines in the world (Bhaskara, 2016).
However, there were gains in the same year as three–year contentious negotiations between ULCC
Allegiant Air and its pilots ended in mid–2016, with the pilots getting hefty pay rises and the
airline's safety record consequently improving (Bhaskara, 2016). United Airlines also reached
agreements with its pilots and flight attendants, with the flight attendants getting a combined
contract after six years of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

27% pay increases and pilots getting an average of 53% pay increases (Koenig, 2017). On profit–
sharing, Delta's workers shared $1.1 billion from the airline's 2016 profits while American, despite
having the most workers of all the airlines, shared $314

Airport Descriptive Essay
The airport is pleased to see me as I wander into the ticketing area, as if realizing before I do why
today is significant. Unable to return the gesture, I look out the window, watching as the sun gets out
of bed to take the elevator to work. At that moment, I suddenly realize what was nothing more than
a few simple clicks just several months ago was now becoming a reality. Today is June 20th and it's
been nine long months. Strangely, the colors around me appear more vivid and I can practically feel
every sound. Nearby voices seem palpable and time seems to slow down. I hear several
conversations around me at once..... people fretting about their flights......a man in a suit nearby
gloating about his business trip, a young mother scolding her child for spilling his Happy Meal on
the floor. Lines throughout the ticketing area serpentine like long centipedes, nowhere left to go but
writhing about nonetheless – the airport is overcrowded and the air is electric from a strange mixture
of excitement and irritability, no doubt emanating from the airport occupants. Oddly, I was unware
of the mob's presence only minutes ago, but now can't help but wonder if any of these people are
looking forward to their travels.....how long has it been since they went to where they are
going.....and are they going there for business or pleasure? Questions of no significance continue to
buzz around in my mind like trapped flies...questions that will never be asked but for some reason
keep itching about.

Personal Narrative : My Experience As A 10 Year Old...
What was your ten year old experience like? Mine consisted of traveling alone to Mexico to visit my
Grandfather throughout summer vacations. Traveling alone was something most of my relatives did
at that age, it was an opportunity to visit the country their parents had grown up in. At first, my mom
was skeptical. The thought of leaving me alone on a plane surrounded by strangers while being ten
thousand feet in the air terrified her. It prompted her to call me every hour to see how I would be
doing. Living as an isolated ten years old who stayed home all day playing video games, I would
view this trip as a chance to get out of my comfort zone. At the same time it also terrified me, the
thought of leaving the country I grew up living while experiencing a completely new atmosphere
that is unfamiliar to me, had me shaking with excitement and anxiety. The morning of my flight I
woke up anxious. As I stood up to walk towards the living room, I found my mom sitting on the
couch with an anxious look on her face. Worried about making her feel worse I said: "Don't worry
mom, everything is ready for the flight." She smiled, erasing her anxious look. Secretly, thoughts of
getting lost at the airport or missing my flight had me terrified. I sat in my room contemplating
thoughts of the new environment that I would be experiencing soon. I had never been good at
stepping out of my comfort zone, but I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I knew

Flight Attendants : A Every Day For Five Days Every Week
Being stuck in a cubical every day for five days every week is not exactly the definition of a fun job.
Traveling the world and seeing a new place every week is. Most people dream of doing that but they
do not have the time or the money for it. How about a job that pays people to travel? Yes, flight
attendants. Flight attendants career is a growing one because it not only has a flexible schedule, but
also pays handsomely for the person to travel and discover the world. This career has come a long
way. Flight attendants are mostly women and they have not been treated fairly over the years. The
selection process was not always on their side and had many issues with gender discrimination and
sexism. Nowadays, almost a 100 years since the career was established, many laws have been issued
to support woman and give them equal rights, making flight attendants' job selection a fair one for
both men and women.
The first flight attendant's name was Ellen Church. She was born in 1904 in Cresco, Iowa. Church
was both a pilot and a registered nurse. She applied to be a pilot for an airline. But since she was a
woman, she did not stand a chance, but was determined to get a job. She suggested that since she
was a registered nurse, she should be on board of the aircrafts taking care of people during flights.
Steve Stimpson, the manager of the San Francisco office of Boeing Air Transport (BAT), took that
into consideration. On May 15, 1930, Church was hired and made her first flight as a

Importance Of Communication In Communication
Communication Prior to taking this course, there was some hesitation on whether or not I would
learn more information about my chosen career path. I was pleasantly surprised with how much
information that I learned and how many different career paths would best suit me. It was not till
recently, that I decided that I wanted to be a flight attendant. With the help of this course, I believe
that I will become more successful when I enter that specific field of work as well as others. Some
internal factors that helped guide my decision into being a flight attendant are that I have changed
my mind multiple times when it came to trying to figure out my future. As long as I could
remember, I was going to major in journalism and become a freelance writer. After completing a
summer writing program, I realized that being a journalist was not for me. It was not till I started
traveling that I found my passion. The biggest external factor that I have faced is that not everyone
(in my family) are pleased with my decision not to have a 9–5 desk job. Something that I wanted to
learn from this course is to have better skills on how to pick a career path or paths that would best be
suited for me. When it comes to deciding on a career, I have always looked at the big picture and
forget about looking at the small details. I feel like this course did help prepare me for the future and
I will definitely look back at the notes I took and the papers I wrote.

Descriptive Essay : Traveling For The Airport In One Day?
The Plane "Kids are you ready?", I asked. "We are leaving for the airport in one hour". "Yes! We are
packed and ready. We cannot wait to see Grandpa Dylan" my kids stated. We are flying to Montana
to see my father. We have not seen him in over two years. This is going to be my kids first time on a
plane. They are so excited to be able to have the experience of going on a plane. The only downside
is we are flying at night so they will not be able to see as much as they could during the day! It is
around Seven O'clock p.m and we started boarding the plane, I am sitting by my wife and my two
kids are sitting in the seats behind us. Before we took off the pilots warned us that planes that have
been flying over this airspace have been experiencing bad turbulence, this worried my kids. We are
about one hour into our flight, the flight attendants are handing out pretzels and cups of soda. We
have already been served and the attendant was towards the back of the plane and swiftly it feels as
if the plane dropped twenty feet. The flight attendant flew to the front of the plane and hit her head
on the door to the pilots cockpit. Her blood is running down the carpet along the center of the plane.
My kids are screaming and everyone is in shock of what just happened. The pilots went on the
loudspeaker and stated, "That is the turbulence we told you about earlier." However they did not
know what just happened to the flight attendant. No one got up to help her because everyone

The airline permitted the pilot to return to work after completing diversity training. The airline
believes the incident was an isolated case and considered the conversation as 'private'.
The Southwest Airlines flight Attendants Union have considered filing a federal workplace
discrimination complaint with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission based upon
the statements made by the pilot. Despite and official apology offered by Southwest Airlines
management, the union believes the airlines response and apology falls short of expectations. The
union is "calling on Southwest Airlines to address this problem throughout our company, not as an
isolated incident, but as a mandate that our workplace will be free from discrimination of all forms
as a condition of continued employment" (Bingham). Despite the position of the union, Southwest
Airlines management believes the diversity training and the public apology was an appropriate
response to the incident.
Two possible actions must be considered to determine whether this incident involves any statutory
activity. First, did the pilot violate any statutory laws by transmitting obscene, indecent, or profane
language over ATC frequencies, and second, did the pilot provide a solid basis for a workplace
discrimination complaint as expressed by the flight attendant union; both possibilities appear
plausible based on the information

Delta Airlines Evaluation
For my news report I turned to the website Prnewsonline.com and I supplemented my research with

In early October, Delta Airlines was accused with racial profiling after a flight attendant refused to
believe that a black woman, Tamika Cross, was a doctor. During a flight from Detroit, a man went
unconscious and his wife cried out for help. A representative for the airline went on the speaker and
asked if anyone aboard was a doctor, Dr. Tamika Cross immediately responded. The flight attendant
showed clear doubt that Tamika Cross was a doctor and reportedly said to her that they were
"looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel." Once again the cockpit
asked if there were any medical personnel on board, and once again Dr. Cross responded. Once

Through utilization of justification, Delta airlines minimizes their crisis by stating that they are still
taking action in order to investigate what happened. Delta never fully acknowledges that there is an
issue and instead tries to make it right through the reduction of offensiveness. Through utilizing this
strategy they reduce the severity of Dr. Cross's allegations by discussion how their flight attendants
are trained and how ultimately it comes down to a judgment call. The biggest issue with Delta's
statement is that it lacks an apology and never acknowledges that there was an issue of racial

Statement Of Purpose For Aviation

  • 1. Statement Of Purpose For Aviation Aviation has always been a part of my life for as long as I could remember. My mom was a flight attendant and my dad was an aircraft engineer. In a way, my relationship with aviation started even before I was born, as even when my mom was pregnant, she still had to work on flights everyday. I remembered looking forward to going to daycare at the airport and my parents often tell me that I would lean against the windows for hours watching planes take off and land. My passion for aviation has never been lost, as I still enjoy plane spotting at YVR on the weekends where I try to identify the different types of aircraft, ranging from the Airbus A320 to the Boeing 777–300ER. I enjoy the rush of excitement when I see and hear planes fly above me after takeoff. It always amazes me how human innovation can create a machine weighing over 775000kg to gracefully fly into the sky. Whenever I go on vacation, I always film taking off and landing, and I make sure my parents give me time at the airport, as I enjoy walking around with my camera taking photos of planes and airlines that I usually don't see at YVR. I also enjoy visiting aviation museums and seeing airplanes which were used in the past. At home, I have a growing collection of aircraft models, and I am always looking for opportunities to buy more models to add to my collection. In my spare time, I play on my flight simulator, which allows me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also hope that I will be able to learn techniques that will allow me to better communicate with people through learning about customer service. It is also an opportunity for me to try new things to have a better understanding of airlines and an appreciation for people who work hard to make sure every flight departs on time and runs ... • 3. Descriptive Essay On Pitter Patter Pitter patter. Pitter patter. Little droplets of water consumed everyone in its path. People fleeing from all directions, up and down, left to right on narrow pathways to find shelter. Soon after, the light 'pitter patter' of rain turned into wet thuds as the icy water raced to meet the ground. It was a torrential downpour. I sat patiently in my business–class seat, inattentively flicking through the flight magazin, waiting for departure. Occasionally, my gaze would capture worried eyes of other passengers, turning from left to right, backwards and forward. Why were they worried? Ignoring the worried atmosphere surrounding me, I switched focus to the flight attendants conducting the same safety brief, in which I observe too often. Robotically and unenthusiastically they explained the use of an oxygen mask in an event of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was there to do on a plane for a day? The only thing that could be done was watching movies. A male flight attendant then walked down the aisle, approaching towards me, and asked, "Mr Smith, is there anything you need?" I gulped, confused at first. "Mr Who?" I responded back, only to received another confused look from the male flight attendant. I then realised who he was talking to and laughed it off and replied "Could you please give me a blanket and a pillow, please? Thank you" Not long after, I comfortably sat in my business class seat and immediately chose the "V for Vendetta" movie, as it was my all time favourite. Half way during the movie, I came to a realisation how the protagonist was wearing a mask, the Guy Fawkes Mask, it was funny how his insecurity of his face, made him cover his identity. Why does he not reveal himself, and become the face of a protest which could potentially lead to new discoveries and perspectives of world's. Drifting further into reverie, I closed my eyes and imagined myself standing on the middle of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Creative Story : A Short Story ––– "Sango, Toll Gate, Pleasure, Ile Epo! Sango, Toll Gate, Pleasure, Ile Epo!" the conductor screamed as he walked towards Toyosi, his right hand stretched out, shoulder slouched. She squeezed her face and eyed him, his white singlet stained with black and brown spots and streaks. His fingers were dark with engine oil and dirt stains, his fingernails half eaten. He pulled up his shorts to his waist but it immediately started falling off again. His singlet, rolled up slightly over his belly, revealed his dark midriff and his even darker, loose boxer shorts; they too were almost falling off. He stretched out his right hand again as he approached Toyosi, as if he wanted to help with the bag she was carrying but she tried to avoid him, swerving and throwing her face away. She wasn't about to let him contaminate her goods. "Iyana Ipaja?" she asked. "Fifty naira. Enter with your change o. I no get change," he said, pulling his right ear, head tilted to the side as if warning her of impending doom. "Na 500 I get o," she replied, dragging the 'o' like a heavy bag of rice on the floor. "I don tell you now," the conductor retorted. "If you like, no hear word." "Una no dey ever get change," she mumbled as she lifted herself and her sack full of vegetable leaves onto the bus. Her weight noticeably depressed the bus and as she took a seat on the second row beside the window, the bench creaked in protest. She was sweating profusely and needed air. • 13. Song Airlines Business Case Essay Song Airlines Case Song airline was a low cost carrier subsidiary of Delta airlines that started in 2003. It was formed to compete with JetBlue and other low cost airlines for the Florida market. The market environment at the time of the case was extremely difficult with the rising costs of fuel, increasing security requirements after 9/11 and customers' expectations of lower fares. It has forced many big players in the airline industry into bankruptcy. The operational costs which include gate fees, ground operational costs etc. were increasing causing even more problems for the airlines. Song Airlines spent a lot of time analyzing the past data and did a lot of market research to come up these various strategy points. And I think, it clearly shows that they used experience curve techniques to analyze and use the data like gate utilization, flight attendant working times, seat usage, and flight route scheduling etc. to optimize the operational aspects of running the overall operations. It was stated that based on these initiatives they achieved 20 – 25% lower operational costs in running the airline as compared to running it in a Delta configuration. By using the various main concepts like low fares, great services and targeted marketing they were able to achieve good success. By focusing on the main strategy aspects simultaneously like lowering operational costs, optimizing logistics, increasing the service level and perceive value by portraying a high end service, Song was able to integrate these various aspects nicely. Some of the key opportunities in the current market environment for airline industry are: 1. Increasing Customer service levels. Allegiant is in its 45th consecutively profitable quarter which is excellent when you consider they were out of bankruptcy in 2001 which makes them continually profitable since 2003. The company has used strategies that avoid barriers imposed by larger and more established carriers by using strategies such as using regional airports instead of major airports, using terminals during off peak times, investments in fuel to curve prices, and assets that are low cost to own and operate. Revenue was just short of a billion and were up 10% from 2012 (Annual Report, 2014). Allegiants largest expense as reported by their 2013 Annual Report is undoubtedly fuel, costing 41.6% in 2012 and 38.7% in 2013 (Figure 1). Steps to circumvent fuel costs have included buying A319s which reduced fuel burn from 950 gallons per hour on MD80s to 725 gallons per hour in addition to establishing contractual agreements with Orlando Sanford International and affiliates and investments in fuel storage and transportation facilities. • 21. Flight Descriptive Speech Huge white smiles and warm handshakes is the kind of welcoming everyone receives as they board a plane. From the flight attendant's smiles to the pilot's "Welcome" an automatic feeling of happiness hits you. That feeling of happiness clearly lets you know you have boarded a plane. Stepping foot onto the plane you are automatically greeted by warm smiles and handshakes. Both the flight attendant's and pilot's uniforms appear so clean and proper. As an attendant speaks, her voice is almost considered annoying because of how screechy and preppy it sounds. Following the guy in front of you, down the aisle, you feel like you're being towered over due to how tall he is. Continuing slowly down the aisle your correct seat finally appears in front of you. You squat down to pick up your bright blue hard shelled carry on suitcase to store in the overhead bin. Looking up and putting your suitcase away you see it disappear as it falls gently back into the storage area. You watch as various people around you slam their suitcases into their overhead bins and a loud bang is sounded as the suitcase hits the back of the storage container. Looking down at your navy blue leather seat you just know that seat will feel like sitting on a luxurious cloud. Grabbing the silver part of the seat belt chills automatically run up your arms because that's just how cold the inside of the airplane is. After everyone has boarded the plane has a slight sweaty disgusting smell because of how many people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison between London and Atlanta Based Airlines How would the two airlines (London–based and Atlanta–based) be more reactive to the requirements of the patrons while upholding equally operational efficiency and effectiveness? Areas of concern 1. Environment. Clients have a higher standard on the London–based airline because of its past performance for an exceptional service. Similarly, clients also presume that the high cost incurred should be recompensed by superb provisions. 2. Information technology structure. Bearing in mind the facts provided in the case, McPherson made a few suppositions that the airline flying to London should have acknowledged him from their computer as a short timed– linking passenger, and that considering the premium price he paid for his plane ticket by a ... The Flight Attendant Training Program Charles Lindbergh flew the first American Airlines flight on April 15, 1926 carrying U.S. mail from St. Louis, Missouri to Chicago, Illinois (American Airlines). American Airlines flew United States mail routes for about eight years until C.R. Smith and Donald Douglas created the DC–3 plane that would change the airline industry. The DC–3 flew in service from New York to Chicago (American Airlines). Over the years the company began to grow what it is today. American Airlines grew from engineering the DC–3 to the DC–7 and eventually created new flight planes that would be able to take passengers all over the United States and eventually overseas. American Airlines was the first airline to create a specialized flight attendant training program (American Airlines). The airline knew the importance of keeping its passengers comfortable during their flight. Finally, on October 16, 2015 U.S. Airways flew its last flight and on October 17, 2015 U.S. Airways and American Airlines began to operate under one company. The key issues that are behind the American Airlines and U.S. Airways merger is that when it all comes down to it is that once these two companies are combines they will be better able to offer its customers better options according to Thomas C. Lawton (2013). However, since two companies are becoming one the critics will argue that there will be less competition in the airline industry especially since there seem only to be four major airlines now, Delta, American ... The day that happened three years ago, when i was seventeen. That day that i'll never forget, April 30th. "MOM!" I yell from my room. Your dad is going to be home from the business trip tonight and you need to help me cook dinner." she says. "Oh, I thought he was coming next week." I say as I helped her get out the ingredients. What additional sources of information might it have used? What were the union's primary objectives? The union began preparing by doing research to find out what other similar airline carriers were supplying for their flight attendants (i.e. average working conditions, benefits, and wage rates). This strategy is quite bold and could lead the company to feel that they were not given a chance. In return MCA could have harsh feelings toward the Union and not compromise as easily. The fourth strategy was to only settle issues with unanimous consent from the negotiating committee. The union planned on every person in the committee being at every meeting and they set the rule that everyone had to agree to proceed. This is definitely not reasonable because there may be situations when a member can't make a meeting. It is also not reasonable to say that everyone must agree. There are times when this is not possible and it should have been planned for. Maybe the union should have had a majority vote or even a 75% vote minimum. 3. What were the company's goals and strategies? MCA went in to the first meeting trying to intimidate the Union. They were late, rude, sarcastic, condescending, and unwilling to compromise on any issue that the Union brought up. They went into the first meeting not wanting to change anything in the current contract. They made it clear that they were not taking the negotiation seriously and they did not plan on coming to an agreement unless it was on their terms in the beginning. 4. • 35. Analysis Of ' Allah Hu Akbar ' David Procter– Formal Writing "Allah Hu Akbar" is portrayed as a war chant and terrorist motto by the media whenever there has been a conflict around the world with Muslims or others with Middle Eastern descent. But it is actually a prayer meaning "God is great." The media is wrongly portraying Muslims as terrorists, Muslims follow the religion of Islam and since the attacks of 9/11 on the twin towers. Muslims, especially in America, are suffering from discrimination from babies being forced off domestic flights to American Muslims who were denied the second amendment of bearing arms. Even famous musicians have been denied entry in the U.S because of their Islamic name, and Muslims not being served un–opened cans of Coca–Cola as "it could be used as a weapon". This prejudice is creating lethal stereotypes in today's society. The media have published articles that portray many Muslims as terrorists. This has made many Americans believe that Muslims all have connections to Al Qaeda and Taliban making everyone fear them in general. This discrimination is even effecting babies. Riyanna Abdullah was an 18 month old child who was flying on a JetBlue flight from Florida back to New Jersey. The streamlining was because of many carriers going bankrupt in the last decade, a situation that was attributed to generous base pay rates and work rules negotiated by the unions as a result of previous good profits. The current boom is also tempered by fractious labor relations between the airlines and staff. Delta Airlines suffered from their pilots picketing in 2016. At that moment, I suddenly realize what was nothing more than a few simple clicks just several months ago was now becoming a reality. Today is June 20th and it's been nine long months. Strangely, the colors around me appear more vivid and I can practically feel every sound. Nearby voices seem palpable and time seems to slow down. I hear several conversations around me at once..... people fretting about their flights......a man in a suit nearby gloating about his business trip, a young mother scolding her child for spilling his Happy Meal on the floor. Lines throughout the ticketing area serpentine like long centipedes, nowhere left to go but writhing about nonetheless – the airport is overcrowded and the air is electric from a strange mixture of excitement and irritability, no doubt emanating from the airport occupants. Oddly, I was unware of the mob's presence only minutes ago, but now can't help but wonder if any of these people are looking forward to their travels.....how long has it been since they went to where they are going.....and are they going there for business or pleasure? Questions of no significance continue to buzz around in my mind like trapped flies...questions that will never be asked but for some reason keep itching about. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Personal Narrative : My Experience As A 10 Year Old... What was your ten year old experience like? Mine consisted of traveling alone to Mexico to visit my Grandfather throughout summer vacations. Traveling alone was something most of my relatives did at that age, it was an opportunity to visit the country their parents had grown up in. At first, my mom was skeptical. The thought of leaving me alone on a plane surrounded by strangers while being ten thousand feet in the air terrified her. It prompted her to call me every hour to see how I would be doing. Living as an isolated ten years old who stayed home all day playing video games, I would view this trip as a chance to get out of my comfort zone. At the same time it also terrified me, the thought of leaving the country I grew up living while experiencing a completely new atmosphere that is unfamiliar to me, had me shaking with excitement and anxiety. The morning of my flight I woke up anxious. As I stood up to walk towards the living room, I found my mom sitting on the couch with an anxious look on her face. Worried about making her feel worse I said: "Don't worry mom, everything is ready for the flight." She smiled, erasing her anxious look. Secretly, thoughts of getting lost at the airport or missing my flight had me terrified. I sat in my room contemplating thoughts of the new environment that I would be experiencing soon. I had never been good at stepping out of my comfort zone, but I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I knew that there was no going back, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, flight attendants. Flight attendants career is a growing one because it not only has a flexible schedule, but also pays handsomely for the person to travel and discover the world. This career has come a long way. Flight attendants are mostly women and they have not been treated fairly over the years. The selection process was not always on their side and had many issues with gender discrimination and sexism. Nowadays, almost a 100 years since the career was established, many laws have been issued to support woman and give them equal rights, making flight attendants' job selection a fair one for both men and women. The first flight attendant's name was Ellen Church. She was born in 1904 in Cresco, Iowa. Church was both a pilot and a registered nurse. She applied to be a pilot for an airline. But since she was a woman, she did not stand a chance, but was determined to get a job. She suggested that since she was a registered nurse, she should be on board of the aircrafts taking care of people during flights. • 68. Importance Of Communication In Communication Communication Prior to taking this course, there was some hesitation on whether or not I would learn more information about my chosen career path. I was pleasantly surprised with how much information that I learned and how many different career paths would best suit me. It was not till recently, that I decided that I wanted to be a flight attendant. With the help of this course, I believe that I will become more successful when I enter that specific field of work as well as others. Some internal factors that helped guide my decision into being a flight attendant are that I have changed my mind multiple times when it came to trying to figure out my future. As long as I could remember, I was going to major in journalism and become a freelance writer. After completing a summer writing program, I realized that being a journalist was not for me. It was not till I started traveling that I found my passion. The biggest external factor that I have faced is that not everyone (in my family) are pleased with my decision not to have a 9–5 desk job. Something that I wanted to learn from this course is to have better skills on how to pick a career path or paths that would best be suited for me. When it comes to deciding on a career, I have always looked at the big picture and forget about looking at the small details. • 73. Descriptive Essay : Traveling For The Airport In One Day? The Plane "Kids are you ready?", I asked. "We are leaving for the airport in one hour". "Yes! We are packed and ready. We cannot wait to see Grandpa Dylan" my kids stated. We are flying to Montana to see my father. We have not seen him in over two years. This is going to be my kids first time on a plane. They are so excited to be able to have the experience of going on a plane. The only downside is we are flying at night so they will not be able to see as much as they could during the day! It is around Seven O'clock p.m and we started boarding the plane, I am sitting by my wife and my two kids are sitting in the seats behind us. Before we took off the pilots warned us that planes that have been flying over this airspace have been experiencing bad turbulence, this worried my kids. We are about one hour into our flight, the flight attendants are handing out pretzels and cups of soda. We have already been served and the attendant was towards the back of the plane and swiftly it feels as if the plane dropped twenty feet. The flight attendant flew to the front of the plane and hit her head on the door to the pilots cockpit. Her blood is running down the carpet along the center of the plane. My kids are screaming and everyone is in shock of what just happened. The pilots went on the loudspeaker and stated, "That is the turbulence we told you about earlier." However they did not know what just happened to the flight attendant. No one got up to help her because everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Southwest Airlines Discrimination Case Essay Southwest Airlines Discrimination Case Recently, a Southwest Airlines discrimination issue surfaced resulting from comments expressed by a Southwest pilot during a private conversation. The two minute conversation transpired on March 25, 2011 and was inadvertently broadcast over a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control frequency in the Houston, Texas area during a flight from Austin, Texas to San Diego, California. According to the accusations, the comments were perceived as demeaning and derogatory with regard to the Southwest Airlines flight attendant employee group. The intent of this paper is not to determine guilt or malice, but instead to present the facts presented from both sides of the argument. The legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The airline permitted the pilot to return to work after completing diversity training. The airline believes the incident was an isolated case and considered the conversation as 'private'. The Southwest Airlines flight Attendants Union have considered filing a federal workplace discrimination complaint with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission based upon the statements made by the pilot. Despite and official apology offered by Southwest Airlines management, the union believes the airlines response and apology falls short of expectations. The union is "calling on Southwest Airlines to address this problem throughout our company, not as an isolated incident, but as a mandate that our workplace will be free from discrimination of all forms as a condition of continued employment" (Bingham). Despite the position of the union, Southwest Airlines management believes the diversity training and the public apology was an appropriate response to the incident. Two possible actions must be considered to determine whether this incident involves any statutory activity. First, did the pilot violate any statutory laws by transmitting obscene, indecent, or profane language over ATC frequencies, and second, did the pilot provide a solid basis for a workplace discrimination complaint as expressed by the flight attendant union; both possibilities appear plausible based on the information ... • 79. Delta Airlines Evaluation For my news report I turned to the website Prnewsonline.com and I supplemented my research with information from the BET website. These websites were incredibly helpful in my research gathering process. I feel that these sources were reliable and for the most part unbiased news sources in which I could gather accurate and relevant information to my issue. In early October, Delta Airlines was accused with racial profiling after a flight attendant refused to believe that a black woman, Tamika Cross, was a doctor. During a flight from Detroit, a man went unconscious and his wife cried out for help. A representative for the airline went on the speaker and asked if anyone aboard was a doctor, Dr. Tamika Cross immediately responded. The flight attendant showed clear doubt that Tamika Cross was a doctor and reportedly said to her that they were "looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel." Once again the cockpit asked if there were any medical personnel on board, and once again Dr. Cross responded. Once again Dr. Cross was greeted with disbelief and was even asked to prove her ... Through utilization of justification, Delta airlines minimizes their crisis by stating that they are still taking action in order to investigate what happened. Delta never fully acknowledges that there is an issue and instead tries to make it right through the reduction of offensiveness. Through utilizing this strategy they reduce the severity of Dr. Cross's allegations by discussion how their flight attendants are trained and how ultimately it comes down to a judgment call. The biggest issue with Delta's statement is that it lacks an apology and never acknowledges that there was an issue of racial profiling. Although Delta did issue a statement, it was not effective in making their issues go away, and was not a sincere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
