Introduction to Chinese Caligraphy Essay
Chinese calligraphy
Introduction
Every single culture has a way of representing itself. The most different part between China and
Australian is the language. Chinese word (han zi) is hieroglyphic words, and it has its own art style:
Chinese calligraphy. Additionally, Chinese calligraphy (shu fa) is a crucial documentation, which is
able to learn about history through today.
The Chinese calligraphy is among the world s best documented and preserved art in human history. It
has been passed down through generations and it has not lost its value and significance in the chines
culture. The Chinese culture presents a unique way of doing things. Culture and tradition have been
elements of civilization that seem to change with each passing day. ... Show more content on

The invented characters of calligraphy allowed for an interesting and pleasing presentation for artists
and readers.
Gia Gu Wen or Jia Gu Wen is considered among the very first characters to be discovered even though
it was not fully mature. Oracle bones present some of the very earliest and most ancient examples of
Chinese calligraphy. The best way of understanding calligraphy, however, has been linked to the
political authority and rituals Tregear, 1980, p. 87). When looked at from that perspective, the
calligraphy can easily be traced and its meaning be understood. Various reigns and dynasties in China
have had documented literature and cultural rituals. Looking at each and every one of them allows a
person to trace the Chinese calligraphy through time. Dynastic literature
After the unification of chine back in 221 BC, the short lived unity saw the burning of thousands of
writing s and literature material by the emperor to ensure that classical writings were not available for
the public. This created a daunting task for the subsequent dynasty since it had to re establish and
reconstruct a fresh the texts and literature that were considered classics. The dynasties that followed
saw the importance of documentation and clear preservation of any form of literature for posterity.
The Chinese culture and way of life has been among the few that have retained ties with ancient times.
The art world in china as in most Asian countries,

Flashbacks In The Movie Deadpool
Flashbacks are one of the biggest metafictional elements shown in the movie Deadpool. Throughout
the movie these flashbacks help the audience understand who Wade Wilson was and how he became
Deadpool. Another metafictional element used in this movie is breaking the fourth wall. Deadpool
often talks directly to the audience, almost as if he is pausing the movie to chat. There are multiple
fictional characters that have supernatural abilities. Some of these characters are heroes and others are
villains. Finally, there is a non linear structure to the movie. Flashbacks help develop the character
throughout the movie. At the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Deadpool, not Wade
Wilson. Through flashbacks, we soon learn his past and how he has become this superhero Deadpool.
We see the romance between Wade and Vanessa develop, as well as how Wade makes his living as a
mercenary and meet his best friend Weasel. After Wade proposes to his girlfriend Vanessa, he is
diagnosed with stage four cancer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the audience, he mentions other Marvel movies and characters, other movies, he makes fun of himself,
Ryan Reynolds. We see images of actual magazine covers Ryan Reynolds was on, the opening credits

Elizabeth Blackburn Research Paper
Elizabeth Blackburn is an amazing woman; who comes from a family of physicians. She has always
had a passion for animals and science; she found biology to be her favorite subject in school. She was
fascinated by the visual impacts of science through books. Perhaps, it is her enthusiasm for biology
that inspired her to be one of the leading biochemists today. Elizabeth helped in the discovery of the
fountain of youth. Elizabeth and two of her colleagues discovered a way for chromosomes to be
copied during cell division. Within this discovery, they also found a unique DNA sequence in the
telomeres that protects these cells against degradation. In 2009, Dr. Blackburn was awarded the Nobel
Prize in Medicine.
Blackburn was born in 1948, in the city of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Elizabeth is the second
oldest of seven children. Her parents, uncle, and her aunt were all physicians and her grandfather (on
her father s side) collected Cleopatra beetles. When she was four years old, her family moved to the
town of Launceston. In Launceston, she attended the Broadland House Church of England Girls
Grammar School. At sixteen years old, her family relocated to Melbourne, Australia. Elizabeth gained
very high marks in the end of the year final statewide matriculation exams while attending University
High School. As a child, she was always curious about animals. The family had several pets including
rabbits and, fish, and guinea pigs over her adolescent years. Elizabeth kept

Gregor Mendel s Fruit Flies Essay
Gregor Mendel s Fruit Flies
Introduction From simple heredity experiments with garden peas, to cloning sheep, the field of
genetics has come a long way. Now we are closer to mapping out the human genetic map due to
advances in technology, and years and years of research. Perhaps the most influential and
groundbreaking scientist, Gregor Mendel, he was responsible to provide a path to where genetics is
now today with his experiments of garden peas.
In lab, fruit flies were crossed to observe inheritance patterns in their offspring. The motivation for
this was to further understand how genes and characteristics are inherited. To use fruit flies would be
much more effective and easier because of a couple of reasons. The ... Show more content on

The F1?s were then observed and then crossed to form the F2 generation.
Genetic Hypothesis The F1 generation hypothesis is that with the Line A, B cross, the F1 for our
group will be expected to be heterozygous dominant (VvBb) at both loci. This is because of the cross
of Line A, which was consisting of Males with the genotype of vvBB, and of line B that were females
with the genotype VVbb. As far as the F2 generations go, the phenotypes are expected to have a
9:3:3:1 ratio. There should be 9 brown, normal fruit flies, and 3 of each the brown, vestigial fly and
the white, long fly. Finally, there is expected to be only one white, vestigial fly that possesses
homozygous recessive alleles in both loci. There is a chance that there may be different outcomes to
the F2 generation due to the possibility that the Line A and the Line B generation were not all
homozygous dominant in wing type for females and eye color in males. Such a genotype in the males,
vvBb, and such in females, Vvbb, may lead to a different ratio in the F2 offspring.
Methods In the lab section, we observed two vials containing the Line A and B species. In order for us
to further examine the flies, we ?knocked out? the flies with a chemical anesthetic known as Fly Nap.
Placing the wand covered in Fly Nap into the vial, we ?knocked out? the flies. We then spilled the
flies onto a piece of paper and examined them under a light microscope. What were examined were

Safety Case Study
A business may have to sometimes alienate some customers for the betterment of their workers and
business in general. There is controversy on the fact that delivery services like Domino s and little
Caesars do not deliver in locations that are deemed dangerous and have a color system designated for
certain neighborhoods. The American Civil Liberties Union criticizes this practice as discriminatory as
some of these neighborhoods are predominantly minority neighborhoods and believe it is a racial
issue. I believe that the issue is safety as some neighborhoods are more dangerous and create a risk
towards the delivery workers. As a customer of these neighborhoods it can be frustrating not being
able to get pizza, but if a business had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand there is also the possibility of losing money by not delivering in certain locations,
and there is the moral risk of putting workers life at risk for continuing business. In a situation such as
this it will be hard to please both sides, as both a customers and workers concern needs to be taken
into account. As a business manager the main moral concern should be the workers that it has
employed and their safety even if sales are lost. For the long run of the company you needs to find a
balance, workers to feel safe, and customers to feel accommodated by the business. As a business
manager concern of the customer needs to be taken higher into account. Having customers feel that
they are being prejudiced against will be bad for public perception. The company can also re asses the
location to their franchise in the future to prevent the current situation. When it comes to marketing
programs the best recommend action for the company to address is not to address the situation.
Identifying the issue via marketing programs would bring more scrutiny to the company. Plenty of
other organizations are trouble by the same situation and at no time it addressed the issue to the public
view. Evaluation of the situation is needed to identify if it is a regional issue only. If pressure from the
government agencies begins to mount the next option is to address the issue via public service

Urban Planning Models
Talen has been trying hard to build them a theory and has written many articles and books on the
subject. But their lack of theory leads to a malleability within New Urbanism, that helps suspend their
stated principles of diversity and affordability when they are not feasible, and perpetuates a dogma
about the effects of the built environment.
Similar to urban planners of the past new urbanist believe in their own expertise. June Thomas writes
about the failures of different urban planning models to include justice but still believes in their
intentions and role in building the best community. Thomas (2005) writes, about the tenacity of urban
planners. She states, in spite of false steps and inadequate tools, in spite of political turmoil and social
upheaval, local efforts continued. At no time during this half century did such efforts stop, although
sometimes they slowed and became practically invisible. Someone was always trying to plan and
develop a better city, and someone always will, for the foreseeable future (Thomas, 2005: 221)
Even as Thomas writes about the failures of urban planning to act justly in a racist society she still
centers the role of professionals to create a better city. It may be true that urban planning will always
seek to build a better place for people to live. However, the real question is who will that city be for
and whose interests will it serve.
Holston (1998) writes that urban planning has always been for those who fit neatly into the

Struggling to Define Industry in the Industrial Disputes Act
INTRODUCTION
No other provision of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (hereinafter ID Act) has been under as much
scrutiny as the definition of industry given under section 2(j). To avail the benefit of the ID Act, it is
necessary for the worker to prove that his place of employment falls under the purview of the
definition of industry in s 2(j). Over the years the judiciary has laid down certain tests and criteria to
determine and limit (or as seen later, expand) the scope of the legislation to extend the benefits to
workers in different establishments. One such issue was to examine if educational institutions
(universities, schools, etc) would fall under s. 2(j). This essay starts by tracing the judicial
developments with regard to educational institutions under s 2(j).
ARE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS INDUSTRY ?
The concern of education as industry arose for the first time in Corporation of Nagpur v Its Employees
. It was held that the education department of the corporation was a service being provided and would
therefore fall under industry . The question was again addressed in Delhi University v Ram Nath in
1963. The argument presented was that widest meaning should be given to s. 2(j) along the line of the
decision in Hospital Mazdoor Sabha , wherein it had been stated that industry expressly included
services . The working principle stated that the activity should involve the co operation of the
employer and employees with the object of satisfying material

Many mediums of information have advertisements about pollution, recycling, global warming, and
other environmental topics that promote reducing electrical power, or using more recyclable materials,
with a big emphasis on going green. Long sentence. These advertisements promote rash decisions
from people without giving them time to think about the available solutions. The preservation of earth
is hugely important, but promoting these solutions in such an extreme manner is more harmful than
good. Christians are called to be good stewards of the earth, so their solutions should be thoughtful,
balanced, and avoid extremes. I looked over you first paragraph. Make sure that you read before you

Another point of interest that comes from the bible is that humanity has a limited control over nature.
Ecclesiastes 8 12 emphasizes this point; man has a limited ability to control the challenges of earth. It
is ultimately within God s control of the earth that it will continue to flourish and provide. However,
Christians certainly have a responsibility to care for the earth. Christians efforts are not invalidated in
working to keep the earth healthy for nature and the people of the earth, both present and future. The
Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis
2:15). It is important for all Christians to try and be helpful in efforts to keep the environment healthy.
Accordingly, Christians should be encouraged to help in any way that they believe to be the most
beneficial to them, and the environment. While the validity of humanity s impact on global warming is
unclear, there are other visible ways that humans impact the environment. Examples of these include
dumping toxic waste, land fill, littering, deforestation, and the pollution of populated areas. Christians
should support the initiatives that they think are most important whether that be helping with cleanups,
education, recycling, research, or other helpful endeavors. In doing so, the negative impact on the
environment from our society and life

The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics
The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for
mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective
for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit
from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self
assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be
equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students.
This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary
skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self assessment increased mathematics
achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self assessment had no effect on mathematics
achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the need for more evidence on the effect of self
assessment on mathematics achievement of high achievers and conditions lead to positive effects.
Second, the present research confirms that students subsequent learning goals to correct
misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students success in math. This suggest that
mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their
difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a

Findings of the research have been categorised in three different aspects. In cultural type aspect, the
most important findings are the lack of effective communication management and the absence of a
clear strategy for implementing the merger. It have been founded that most of the observed companies
have set the financial benefits and economics of scale as their main objectives. In human resource
aspect, It has been founded that no attempts have been made for finding the organisational fit before
the mergers and this caused a high level of uncertainty between the employees. Finally, because of the
bad management of turnover during the merger, most of the companies have lost their top manager
and staff significantly. Integrating the attributes of human resource and organisational culture are on of
this article significance. This article has evaluated the success of the mergers and acquisitions by
interrelated characteristics between these two main fields. Another significance is the location of the
research, South Africa, Which there are a few research related to that country. The research has used
only five companies that mean a very small sample size. Furthermore, companies have been chosen
from different industries and sectors, which reduce the precision of the findings. It could be added that
the authors have used qualitative research, which means the findings are highly based on the
interpretation of the authors. Article utilised

All of our patients with severe anxiety disorders or severe emotional disorders can tell us on the one

hand when I m having them they dominate my life. I really am afraid. (Suzuki) The reasoning for this
is due to increased sensitivity. A person will be more upset or feeling down which will lead them to
search for other outlets such as drugs to escape their feelings. (Davies) They feel that they have no

Relapse Behavior
A major issue when treating alcoholism is the likelihood of relapse. A lack of social support may
contribute to an increased likelihood of relapse, while maintaining positive social support can decrease
this risk. One study discussed the possibility of social interaction influencing relapse behavior in the
prairie vole. This study focused on the alcohol deprivation effect (ADE), where animals that had been
previously exposed to ethanol show increased consumption after a period of abstinence, modeling
relapse behavior commonly seen in addiction. The aim of the study was first to observe whether

their social nature. Naltrexone, a drug currently in use for treating alcoholism, was tested on prairie

study, voles shared a cage with a same sex sibling for five days, then were placed in a cage with a wire

How To Build A Snowman
Do you want to keep active, but still spend time with your family or friends? During the winter, an
unforgettable childhood tradition would be to build a snowman. Building snowmen have been a part
of many generations. It is a fun experience to share with both friends and family. For me building a
snowman is a great way to spend time with my siblings and keep active during the colder months. You
can become a professional snowman builder through the simple tasks of preparing, building the
snowballs, touching up, and decorating. The first step to building a snowman would be preparation.
Preparing can result in being more efficient with time. Plus, it can also help with the finished product
becoming more successful. To prepare you to need to make sure the snow is more compact and holds
more water so that the snow will stay together. This will occur when the snow has fallen at a warmer
temperature. Another part of preparing is finding a nice place to build the snowman. Make sure the

People, every day, are surrounded by architecture. Architecture is the careful planning, designing, and
construction of buildings (REF). Usually the architecture of a building accurately displays the culture
in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be perceived as
works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since the start of
photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF). Three
photographers participated in architectural photography. These were Walker Evans, Albert Sands

The first of the formal elements he used was the use of cropping. In the photograph, Walker Evans
cropped out the background so the picture would only display the details of the building. This really
brought a strong focus on the intricacies of the building such as the brick layout and window design.
The framing was carefully manipulated in a way that the viewer cannot see either the street nor the top
of the building (MUS). One can conclude that this is because the mid portion of the building really
brought about the main theme of his photo. Most of the design may have been in the mid portion of
the building which really draws attention to the viewer s eye.
The second formal element that Walker Evans used was contrast. Walker Evans took the picture in
such a way that the angle of the sun created a dark shadow behind the windows of the building. Since
the picture was taken in such closed proximity, the contrast gave the photograph some depth. Without
the contrast created from the sun, the photo would have looked very flat. The sun also reflected on the
bricks of the building also creating some contrast within in the bricks giving them each their own

Comparison Of Ilyich Tchaikovsky s Pyotr Tchaikovsky ...
Pyotr (Peter) Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer from the Romantic period whose works
included ballets, operas, and symphonies with a few concertos (Poznansky). Like many stars of today,
not only was his work scrutinized under the public eye but so also was his private life. As he struggled
to bring fame to his name through his music, he later would struggle to hide his sexual affairs, which
may have played a part in his death.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born May 7, 1840, in Kamsko votkinsk, Russia. He was born to Ilya
Petrovich Tchaikovsky and Alexandra Andreyevna d Assier and was the second child of six. From an

He was then offered lodging and support for five years if he agreed to serve as a professor at the
Moscow Conservatory (Harmon). He worked there until he decided to resign due to rumors of his
sexuality. He was able to do so because of his benefactress, Madame von Meck. Because Madame von
Meck was such a wealthy investor, Tchaikovsky was able to devote himself to composition and travel
freely, but only under the condition that they never meet (Taruskin). He wrote his 4th symphony
dedicated to Von Meck, which he was able to conduct without fear. Before, he feared that he would
lose his head while conducting and would often use his left hand to hold his head in place. His first
official commission was for writing the overture for the marriage of Tsarevich Alexander and Princess
Dagmar of Denmark. This was the kick start to Tchaikovsky s career. (Harmon) Tchaikovsky began
composing music while he was still a student under Rubinstein. His first piece was the Anastasia Valse
. His first official opera was completed in 1864, called, The Storm , which was admittedly torn to
shreds by his professor. Tchaikovsky s symphonies have no trace of development, but a succession of
repetitions and a sequence of climatic runs (Harmon). The symphonies are also described as purely
romantic , (Abraham). Tchaikovsky stated that he stuck to the outline, but manipulated the details
freely and that it was difficult for him to grasp the form of symphony. He

an organization s overall performance. Thus, Deloitte came up with the idea of partnership which
focuses on strategic people issues, not just administration and operating efficiency and deals the
problem of keeping a sustainable advantage in the marketplace. To achieve the goal of building
partnership, this requires HR greatly upgrade its talent and capabilities. However, at first they were
weak in HR innovations. It is expensive, difficult to achieve, and hard to sustain a good human

HR staff improve their business knowledge and experience. They also recruit leaders and staff with

John Cages Research Paper
The music of John Cage is highly criticized, yet highly revered within the same societal realm. The
question that has yet to be answered, even after fifty plus years, is John Cages music really music or is
it just noise? The dictionary definition of music is the following: vocal or instrumental sounds (or
both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. My
personal version of the definition of music is a variant of the definition listed above. I believe that
music is the combination of vocal, instrumental sounds, or silence (or all the above) produced in a way
to express a feeling or emotion. Based on my own personal definition of music, I do consider John
Cages pieces to be music.
A question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
it is my opinion that this John Cage piece is considered music. John Cage talks about how all you need
for noise to be music is for there to be sound created in some form and fashion and for the sound to
create rhythmic patterns. I agree with him in that sense. Music is simply different sounds combined in
different rhythms. However, simply because my definition of music similarly matches with John Cage

American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties
The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to develop,
license, and market the teams intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain amount
of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the licensees. They
made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The licensing agreement
lasted until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an exclusive license for
headwear. With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle s license or the licenses of
any other headwear vendors.
American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams, and
Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 §
U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade. American
Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and trademarks, their
collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license to Reebok, was a
conspiracy to restrict other vendors ability to obtain licenses for the teams intellectual property.
The respondents, NFL, moved for a motion of summary judgment on the Section 1 claim, arguing it
was immune from antitrust liability as a single entity. In response, American Needle sought a
continuance and asked the U.S. District Court to allow discovery, a motion opposed by the

Child Adoption Essay
Adoption in qualified households is a rewarding decision that all those involved in benefit from as it
provides children with hope, gives the family with the ability to cultivate relationships, and manifests
love in the most beautiful way when the process is executed honorably. Adoption is an arrangement
that establishes a devoted and lifelong legally recognized relationship between committed adoptive
parents and an adopted child. Through the adoption process, the adoptive parents make the decision to
take on all responsibility and plan to provide, to the fullest extent, all that accompanies taking a child
into their personal care. The parenting figure vows to intervene financially and emotionally in the

In the 2007 National Survey of Adoptive Parents study, it showed that there was a high count of
children with abusive, dangerous, or scarring backgrounds (Adoption Network). Parents that adopt
kids from this background are strengthening themselves as they are putting themselves in the place to
mend those kids broken hearts and love on them. Adoption is not classified as a a walk in the park, but
that is where there is beauty in the system. In order to better understand adoption from a parent s
perspective, adoptive parent, Erin Johnston, was interviewed to grasp a better understanding of how it
is untrue, in her case, that adoption results in failure. She said, Adopting has been wonderful to my
husband and I, since we were unable to have children on our own. We have benefitted spiritually,
mentally, and emotionally from adopting, and we would recommend it to any family considering it.
When asked her overall opinion on why children in the system should be adopted, she stated, Any
child in the system deserves the chance to make a difference in this world, and it is our job to
encourage their dreams and make it happen. There are so many parents out there that feel the same
way as Erin, so many adopted children out there that feel the same way as Erin s son, and so many
adoption agencies out there with such thankfulness to parents like Erin and her husband for what they
do. That is what can be so rewarding and fulfilling about adopting; knowing a difference is being

Racial Illusions In The Movie
Sam Dawson is a single father, who has a developmental disability but is well adjusted to society.
Although, Sam often encounters limitations due to his mental disability, nevertheless he is able to take
care of Lucy. Sadly, his life deviates when Lucy turned eight and a judge assume that Mr. Dawson was
not competent to care for Lucy s wellbeing. It was not until the family court realized that it was in
Lucy s best interest to reside with her dad. The film shows a contrast in Sam idea of being a decent
father and the perspective of the government system. The language, images, and themes used in the
film to portray Sam as a childlike, lacking basic scholastic skills, who is not capable of fulfilling his
parental obligations. The government only sees Sam s disability and the limitations he would place on
Lucy. Sadly, the movie leaves a taste of dissatisfaction because negativity and judgement are the
prominent feeling towards Sam and his situation and these judgements only enforce the idea of Sam
not being a capable father.
Throughout the movie, language was used as a form of limitation and segregation towards Sam.
Everyone was aware that Sam had the intellectual capacity of a seven year old, which meant that he
could hold primitive conversations and had minimal knowledge, through this lack of diction and
knowledge it was possible for the court able to exemplify the risk of having a person with disability
raise a young girl. In the film, Mr. Turner mentioned Mr. Dawson, you

We need to
make sure we are getting marketing collateral into the hands of the executives.
Me personally, as a practice manager I am more inclined to refer to a
facility for rehabilitation and home health agency when I can develop a trusting relationship
with the representative. We deal with a lot of Home Health and Ostomy Nurses, I want to make
sure my patients are taken care of and that the doctors are being informed of any changes with
the patient. I want to get a phone call immediately of any changes, not reading about it in a daily
progress note. As for payers, this is a tricky relationship to build. Many health organizations try
to build relationship with their area representative with the insurance carriers they participate
with. I know, when I was doing credentialing for a health organization I built a relationship with
the area representative to help me out with any credentialing issues and contract issues. By
building this relationship, when issues did arise I was able to speak with the representative. I
was also able to put the patients mind at ease by letting them know I was speaking to a direct
representative with their insurance company and not just a customer service representative. Also
by building this relationship, I am better able to address any questions or concerns regarding
specific plans without having to direct them to the 800 number on the back of their card.

Her costume consists of a long black dress with a black veil, providing the audience with only short
glimpses of her pale face. The use of black clothing allows the ghostly character to go unseen whilst in
the presence of other characters, and to hide behind dark shadows.
The ghostly figure can be recognised through the sound of her high pitched screams, which she
releases in the presence of another character. The thumping noises of a rocking chair on a timber floor
can be heard whenever the Woman in Black is present, and is associated with her death. The volume
of the rocking chair increases as a character approaches it, helping to create tension in a particular
scene.
The Woman in Black only appears in shadows or in the reflection of a mirror using an over the
shoulder camera shot. Throughout the film, the ghost is not seen directly in frame position to ensure
that she isn t seen directly by the audience. By positioning the Woman in Black in corners and hiding
her in the shadows, it creates tension and adds a sense of mystery to a scene. This can be seen during
the film whilst Arthur is in the house, and he drifts off to sleep. The evil spirit is seen in the shadows
moving towards Arthur, the image of the Woman in Black becoming clearer as she moves closer to the

Lighttpd web server is a free, open source web server software that distributed with the Free BSD
operating system. It is easy to set up and it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris operating
system. It is fast, reliable, secure and flexible and it consume lesser CPU power. Lighttpd is also an
asynchronous server that runs as single process with a single thread and non blocking input or output
(I/O). Asynchronous server give the advantage of web applications that written in any programming

In other system, it will be expensive operation in RAM usage and CPU load if starting a new process
or threads. In Lighttpd, expensive operation in RAM usage and CPU load will not happen since
Lighttpd does not need to start a new process or thread on per user or per connection basis. Therefore,
it is really light in RAM usage and CPU load. Lighttpd also normally use the I/O bound rather than the
CPU bound. This means that Lighttpd always serve static files by speed of disk device or network
interface instead of CPU speed.
Disadvantages
There also some disadvantages of Lighttpd web server. Lighttpd web server s design has faced some
problem when it comes to the hardware with large number of CPU cores (CPUs). This is because
Lighttpd only uses several threads and it will not gain too much from increasing more CPUs.
However, Lighttpd is really light and never bound by lack of CPU power. There is also one weakness
of the Lighttpd server which is Lighttpd buffer output from CGI server process in internal buffers.
This will leads to less RAM memory consumption. It is a weak design that using Lighttpd to send iso
sized files which obtained as data stream from the CGI process. This issue may limit the use of
Lighttpd web server. However, this issue not really cause any big problem in the real

The Effect Of Kaolin On The Mechanical Properties Of...
EFFECT OF KAOLIN ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE/
POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE
MATERIAL
Samir Nassaf Mustafa
ABSTRACT : In this work, the mechanical and water absorption properties of polymer blend
polypropylene (PP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) at constant ratio (50/50) composites as a
function of kaolin powder weight content in the grain size (100,120 µm) were investigated. Polymer
composite was fabricated by mixing polymer blend ( PPLDPE) with (0, 1, 3 ,5, 10, 14) wt.% of kaolin
powder to obtain desirable properties. The parameters such as tensile strength, tensile modulus,
elongation at break , yield stress, impact strength, shore D hardness and water absorption test were
carried out on the prepared samples. The results showed that the addition of kaolin powder to the
polymer leads to increase the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, shore D hardness and impact
strength and it decreases the % elongation at break,. Water absorption of the composites behaves as
function of time (days) has also been investigated, and it increases by increasing immersion time for
the same filler content, while the absorbed amount of water increases, by increasing the wt% of kaolin
at constant immersion time.
Keywords: mechanical properties. polypropylene, low density polyethylene, kaolin, blend, filler.

Team Building and Development
It takes extraordinary leadership to assemble great teams. Leaders who are not reluctant to course
right, making challenging choices and launch principles of implementation that are continually being
met and enhancing them at all times. Whether in the working environment, expert sports, or our
nearby community, team building needs a keen understanding of individuals, their merits and what
makes them eager to work with others. Llopis mentioned, Team building is both an art and a science
and the manager who constantly brings out great performance teams is worth their weight in gold
(2012).
Building organizations needs the knowledge and skill to build ever lasting teams. This is the reason
why most managers can never become leaders and why most leaders never achieve the utmost summit
of success. It involves the knack to ace the craft of individuals and knowing how to move hundreds of
individuals at the right place and at the right time. It means to know how each individual thinks and
how to best use their skills properly at all times. It s like playing a continuous match of chess realizing
that each incorrect move can cost the organization thousands of dollars, if not millions (Llopis, 2012).
All through life, we all like to be made to feel commendable and acknowledged, realizing that our
presence can be a piece of vital

named General Bernard Bennie A. Schriever, a Visionary Leader, who is better known as being the
Father of America s Space Program . This man s hard work and vision is responsible for creation of
the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) fleet and paving the foundation for launching satellites
in orbit. Through his 32 year career, he had many roles and with hard work and vision, he created a
legacy that is still relevant to this day.
Over the next 5 minutes, I will provide examples of how Bennie was a Visionary Leader through with
the use of the Full Range Leadership s Transformation attribute of Idealized Influence and the use of
Diversity in his teams. Once explained I will relate those concepts on how I have applied them in my
own life.
Let s dive right in and look at General Schriever s leadership attributes more closely.
As we learned in the Full Range Leadership lesson, Idealized Influence is a key aspect to leadership,
and means that as leaders we are communicating the right kind of influence, acting as a role models
for others to follow... in simple terms

Fascism DBQ
Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini are two of the most well known leaders of the totalitarian
movement which began in the 20th century. The early 1900 s was a very brutal time in history, as it
commenced the beginning of the first world war. As young men, they both served as soldiers in World
War One. Their involvement in the war both left them with violent views of socialism and
communism. In the summer of 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed, marking the end of the war.
The treaty forced Germany to accept sole responsibility for the war, resulting in global German
humiliation. The consequences left Germany liable for harsh reparations and the reassignment of
boundaries. Hitler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Hitler and Mussolini possessed an overbearing hunger for power. Mussolini and Hitler s goals
revolved around ideas of expansion and domination. The leaders knew that in order to reach their
main goal they had to gain the respect of other countries. The process started with the restoration of
their countries reputation. Hitler and Mussolini approach to this was to abolish all democracy in order
to obtain control. They gained the power they needed through the Nazi and fascist movements. In
Adolf Hitler s novel, Mein Kampf, he confesses how Benito Mussolini inspired him to form the
German fascist movement. In the novel, Hitler explains we must inspire discipline and blind faith, for
the side with the best discipline and most blindly obedient (easy to control, do not question) troops
always triumph. This excerpt describes Hitler s own fascist worldview in steps. He believes that in
order to achieve a functioning government one must gain full control of the government. Through
their reign, Germany and Italy enforced laws based on both Nazi and fascist beliefs. Despite their
similarities, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini didn t see eye to eye. After the publication of Hitler
novel, Mussolini claimed to have thought it was weak and boring. Mussolini s goals were extremely
similar to Hitler s goals as both leaders were very power hungry and

written by Stephanie Meyer, writer of the Twilight series. It is told from the perspective of Melanie, a
young woman who is captured by the parasitic aliens named Souls after the human race is taken over.
Andrew Niccol brings yet another adrenaline filled movies to the big screen. Who successfully wrote
The Truman Show (1998). We meet Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), after she has recently been
inhabited by a Soul . She somehow manages to retain her own identity, which rarely happens. This
leads to conversations between soul Melanie, known as Wanderer, and Earth Melanie. Soon Wanderer

Once reunited, they hide from the soul patrols in search cars and helicopters, allowing The Host to live
in Melanie s body, as she is causing no harm, until they can find an alternative body.
Andrew Niccol co wrote the script with Stephanie Meyer. His films ground rules limit the depth and
variety of possible relationships, and The Host is top heavy with profound, deep conversations, all
tending to sound like farewells. This movie really opens your eyes to how two beings, completely
opposite to each other, can form a bond and friendships stronger than any other. And it makes you
wonder why, in society, racism exists at all. If two creature nothing alike can find harmony, why can t

Wells Fargo Woes Shine Light On A Knotty Problem
The article, To Disclose or Not to Disclose? Wells Fargo Woes Shine Light on a Knotty Problem Was
written by Michael Rapoport on September 29, 2016, in the Wall Street Journal. Recently, Wells Fargo
had an accounting scandal with CFO John Stumpf around the problem now is deciding what is
material and must be disclosed. The rule of thumb, which is guided by Statement ASC 250 10 S99,
One rule of thumb in particular suggests that the misstatement or omission of an item that falls under a
5% threshold is not material in the absence of particularly egregious circumstances, such as self
dealing or misappropriation by senior management. For material is if there is a substantial likelihood
that a reasonable person would consider it important.

Analysis Of Judas The Iscariot
This paper is an investigation of the Judas the Iscariot. He left behind his entire life to live
nomadically with Jesus and the other eleven disciples. Judas is known to be the betrayer. He crafted a
plan for Judas to be arrested in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. The Gospel authors and most people
see Judas as the bad guys. But have we misinterpreted Judas? This paper will be a defense for Judas
they Isocratic. I will be examining the accounts of Judas and Messianic prophecy. I will specifically
look at a common argument against Judas, Judas friendship with Jesus, what the Gospel authors
explicitly declared to be Judas motives to be, and how patriotism could ve motivated Judas. Lastly, I
will make my final defense of Judas based on my evidence and analysis.
Background:
The Account of Judas In the New Testament Judas the Iscariot was a descendant of the ancient tribe of
Judas. Iscariot means Man of Kerioth, Man of The Cities, and City Slicker. Kerioth was a city north of
Hebron. Judas was the only apostle from Judea, while the rest were Galilean.
Throughout the Gospels, wherever Judas the Iscariot is named the betrayer. Judas the Iscariot was
chosen by Jesus as one of His twelve apostles. In Mark, the Judas, Jesus and the rest of the apostles
entered a home where a large crowd came to see Jesus, so much so that Jesus and His disciple could
not eat. The Pharisees continuously challenged Jesus throughout his ministry. But Jesus outsmarted

The Conspiracy Theories And Social Issues
The phrase conspiracy theory is often expressed with a negative connotation and used as a label for
the explanation of outlandish incidents that are hard for the everyday person to comprehend.
Conspiracy theorists are often labeled as lunatics that spit out senseless claims with no real substance.
The mere mention of the word conspiracy seems to set off an internal alarm bell that causes scholars
to close their minds in order to avoid cognitive dissonance and possible unpleasantness, since the
popular image of conspiracy both fundamentally challenges the conception most educated,
sophisticated people have about how the world operates... (Bale). What is often unspoken is that
conspiracy theories have a real effect on the political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 2012 National Election Study found that the conspiracy theory has to ideologically be in line with
what the person already believes. Conservatives aren t going to jump on a conspiracy theory that
makes other conservatives look bad, and liberals aren t going to believe a theory that undermines
liberal causes (Jackson). A similar survey carried out by the New York Times complements the
previous study s results and states that In total, the percentage of Democrats who agreed on average
with the conspiracy claims in the scale increased from 27 percent before the election to 32 percent
afterward. By contrast, Republicans willingness to endorse conspiratorial claims declined after the
election over all and for three of the four statements, pushing down the percentage of Republicans
who agreed on average with the statements from 28 percent to 19 percent. (Nyhan). This coincides
with another conducted in countries with a primarily islamic population asking the participants if
Arabs were the perpetrators in the attacks against America on 9/11. 78 percent of respondents said that
they do not believe the 9/11 attacks were carried out by Arabs, the most popular account, in these
countries, is that 9/11 was the work

TEMPEST Essay
The Other in the Tempest
In order to understand the characters in a play, we have to be able to distinguish what exactly makes
them different. In the case of The Tempest, Caliban, the sub human slave is governed largely by his
senses, making him the animal that he is portrayed to be and Prospero is governed by sound mind,
making him human. Caliban responds to nature as his instinct is to follow it. Prospero, on the other
hand, follows the art of justifiable rule. Even though it is easy to start assessing The Tempest in view
of a colonialist gaze, I have chosen instead to concentrate on viewing Caliban as the monster he is
portrayed to be, due to other characters that are not human, but are treated in a more humane fashion
than Caliban. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
his senses, while Prospero is ruled more by his intellect and self discipline i.e. his mind. Although we
are not given details of Caliban s birth, it seems likely that a creature as subhuman in appearance as
Caliban was not born of a human union. It has been postulated that, to quote Prospero, he was got by
the devil himself upon thy wicked dam, from a union between Sycorax and an incubus (an extremely
attractive male apparition with intention to tempt). Caliban was therefore a creature born from
passion, the offspring of an unholy pleasure. Prospero was not only of noble birth; he was also born to
be ruler of the city state of Milan. Nobility, in Elizabethan times, carried with it heavy implications: it
was expected that Prospero would be intellectually superior, and that he would exercise as great
discipline over himself as he was expected to exercise over others, in his role of leadership. From their
ancestry, Prospero is more ruled by his intellect, and Caliban by his love of pleasure. Caliban s
original love for Prospero and Miranda, and his later misdemeanour and subsequent hatred for them,
illustrate his fundamental reliance on his senses. Caliban loved Prospero and Miranda because they
made much of me ; and his response to this was purely sensual in his recollections: Thou strok st
me,...wouldst give me/Water with berries in t. What Caliban responded to, more than anything else,

Peter Figueroa s Framework
As a male there are many levels of Peter Figueroa Framework, that affects the question will I dance
again? Constructed over five separate levels: Individual, Interpersonal, Institutional, Structural and
Cultural, these areas are used to investigate the ways in which inequities challenge the area of sport
and physical activity (Weeblycom, 2016). The two most prominent levels that impact my decision are
the Structural Level being policies, funding, media, development programs, marketing and secondly
the Institutional Level encompassing my community, school, facilities, rules and religion (Hede et al,
2010, pg. 299). Hede et al states that the Structural level of Figueroa s Framework includes the
influence of government, business and the media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are able to help
shape positive attitudes to sport and physical activity athletes (Hede et al, 2010, pg. 300). An
additional reason as to why I have not danced except for in school arranged programs is due to the
lack of facilities and know ballroom dance studio within the Redlands. This is evident as unlike Tennis
where there is five Tennis Centre s within the Redlands there is only two ballroom dance studios. Due
to my failure to succeed in dance this affected my self esteem need and made it hard to enjoy it.
Participating in dance was also made difficult to partake in at school, as Carmel only has one
classroom with the suitable wooden floor and numerous classes needing to use it makes it inequitable.
Trips to a local studio were needed where we were able to have the use of professional dance teachers
making it advantageous. Having the professional advice and help made it easier to choreographed our
own dance routine. Carmel is also a school that does not succeed highly in dance and therefore does
not invest as much time and money into dance compared to other sports like Touch, Rugby 7 s or
Netball. Analyses of an ABS statistic shows that the most popular sport for males was outdoor soccer,
with 309,700 participants and a participation rate of 22%.

The Great Leap Forward
The Great Leap Forward was a creative yet disastrous interruption in Chinese economic development.
It is one of those moments in Chinese history that is the epitome of Mao Zedong s willingness to
experiment, as well as his political genius in seizing control of the forms of government out of the
hands of his intellectual and political adversaries within the Communist Party of China. Given that
more conservative leaders, such as Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping, were not in agreement with Mao
on the policies of the Great Leap Forward. The implementation of these policies resulted in disaster,
generating a crisis in Chinese society as well as a massive famine that would in the end be resolved in
ways unfavorable to Mao s political, economic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mao believed the new policy would be so successful in stimulating output and surplus resources that
the government would see a net gain in surplus captured from the countryside. Mao saw that this
surplus that could be invested in heavy industry, mining, and infrastructure among other things. This
optimism about the potential increases in productivity of rural laborers also encouraged the central
government to massively relocate labor from agriculture to industry. It would not appear that Mao nor
any of his top aides asked themselves one most important questions: What happens if the productivity
estimations are wrong?
Those on the political left also argued that the Great Leap Forward would help to slow the growing
urban unemployment issue. It was thought that the adoption of new technology in the rural areas, and
the development of more rural heavy industry, would generate more rural employment opportunities
and improve the incomes of rural peasants. These factors would not only eliminate one of the primary
motives for moving from the countryside to the urban areas, but would even result in a reversal of the
migratory flow, in other words, the industrialization of the countryside would create a better life and
people would want to return to the rural countryside from the cities.
The government did not rely completely on these economic policies to keep their people on the farms.

Now we are closer to mapping out the human genetic map due to advances in technology, and years and years of research. Perhaps the most influential and groundbreaking scientist, Gregor Mendel, he was responsible to provide a path to where genetics is now today with his experiments of garden peas. The F1?s were then observed and then crossed to form the F2 generation. Genetic Hypothesis The F1 generation hypothesis is that with the Line A, B cross, the F1 for our group will be expected to be heterozygous dominant (VvBb) at both loci. This is because of the cross of Line A, which was consisting of Males with the genotype of vvBB, and of line B that were females with the genotype VVbb. As far as the F2 generations go, the phenotypes are expected to have a 9:3:3:1 ratio. There should be 9 brown, normal fruit flies, and 3 of each the brown, vestigial fly and the white, long fly. Finally, there is expected to be only one white, vestigial fly that possesses homozygous recessive alleles in both loci. There is a chance that there may be different outcomes to the F2 generation due to the possibility that the Line A and the Line B generation were not all homozygous dominant in wing type for females and eye color in males. Such a genotype in the males, vvBb, and such in females, Vvbb, may lead to a different ratio in the F2 offspring. Methods In the lab section, we observed two vials containing the Line A and B species. In order for us to further examine the flies, we ?knocked out? the flies with a chemical anesthetic known as Fly Nap. Placing the wand covered in Fly Nap into the vial, we ?knocked out? the flies. Similar to urban planners of the past new urbanist believe in their own expertise. June Thomas writes about the failures of different urban planning models to include justice but still believes in their intentions and role in building the best community. At no time during this half century did such efforts stop, although sometimes they slowed and became practically invisible. Someone was always trying to plan and develop a better city, and someone always will, for the foreseeable future (Thomas, 2005: 221) Even as Thomas writes about the failures of urban planning to act justly in a racist society she still centers the role of professionals to create a better city. It may be true that urban planning will always seek to build a better place for people to live. However, the real question is who will that city be for and whose interests will it serve. To avail the benefit of the ID Act, it is necessary for the worker to prove that his place of employment falls under the purview of the definition of industry in s 2(j). Over the years the judiciary has laid down certain tests and criteria to determine and limit (or as seen later, expand) the scope of the legislation to extend the benefits to workers in different establishments. One such issue was to examine if educational institutions (universities, schools, etc) would fall under s. 2(j). This essay starts by tracing the judicial developments with regard to educational institutions under s 2(j). ARE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS INDUSTRY ? The concern of education as industry arose for the first time in Corporation of Nagpur v Its Employees . It was held that the education department of the corporation was a service being provided and would therefore fall under industry . Ecclesiastes 8 12 emphasizes this point; man has a limited ability to control the challenges of earth. Christians efforts are not invalidated in working to keep the earth healthy for nature and the people of the earth, both present and future. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis 2:15). It is important for all Christians to try and be helpful in efforts to keep the environment healthy. Accordingly, Christians should be encouraged to help in any way that they believe to be the most beneficial to them, and the environment. American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to develop, license, and market the teams intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain amount of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the licensees. They made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The licensing agreement lasted until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an exclusive license for headwear. With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle s license or the licenses of any other headwear vendors. American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams, and Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 § U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade. American Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and trademarks, their collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license to Reebok, was a conspiracy to restrict other vendors ability to obtain licenses for the teams intellectual property. The respondents, NFL, moved for a motion of summary judgment on the Section 1 claim, arguing it was immune from antitrust liability as a single entity. In response, American Needle sought a continuance and asked the U.S. District Court to allow discovery, a motion opposed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was not until the family court realized that it was in Lucy s best interest to reside with her dad. The film shows a contrast in Sam idea of being a decent father and the perspective of the government system. The language, images, and themes used in the film to portray Sam as a childlike, lacking basic scholastic skills, who is not capable of fulfilling his parental obligations. The government only sees Sam s disability and the limitations he would place on Lucy. Sadly, the movie leaves a taste of dissatisfaction because negativity and judgement are the prominent feeling towards Sam and his situation and these judgements only enforce the idea of Sam not being a capable father. Throughout the movie, language was used as a form of limitation and segregation towards Sam. Everyone was aware that Sam had the intellectual capacity of a seven year old, which meant that he could hold primitive conversations and had minimal knowledge, through this lack of diction and knowledge it was possible for the court able to exemplify the risk of having a person with disability raise a young girl. Polymer composite was fabricated by mixing polymer blend ( PPLDPE) with (0, 1, 3 ,5, 10, 14) wt.% of kaolin powder to obtain desirable properties. The parameters such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break , yield stress, impact strength, shore D hardness and water absorption test were carried out on the prepared samples. The results showed that the addition of kaolin powder to the polymer leads to increase the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, shore D hardness and impact strength and it decreases the % elongation at break,. Water absorption of the composites behaves as function of time (days) has also been investigated, and it increases by increasing immersion time for the same filler content, while the absorbed amount of water increases, by increasing the wt% of kaolin at constant immersion time. Hitler and Mussolini approach to this was to abolish all democracy in order to obtain control. They gained the power they needed through the Nazi and fascist movements. In Adolf Hitler s novel, Mein Kampf, he confesses how Benito Mussolini inspired him to form the German fascist movement. In the novel, Hitler explains we must inspire discipline and blind faith, for the side with the best discipline and most blindly obedient (easy to control, do not question) troops always triumph. This excerpt describes Hitler s own fascist worldview in steps. He believes that in order to achieve a functioning government one must gain full control of the government. Through their reign, Germany and Italy enforced laws based on both Nazi and fascist beliefs. Despite their similarities, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini didn t see eye to eye. After the publication of Hitler novel, Mussolini claimed to have thought it was weak and boring. Mussolini s goals were extremely similar to Hitler s goals as both leaders were very power hungry and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Judas is known to be the betrayer. He crafted a plan for Judas to be arrested in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. The Gospel authors and most people see Judas as the bad guys. But have we misinterpreted Judas? This paper will be a defense for Judas they Isocratic. I will be examining the accounts of Judas and Messianic prophecy. I will specifically look at a common argument against Judas, Judas friendship with Jesus, what the Gospel authors explicitly declared to be Judas motives to be, and how patriotism could ve motivated Judas. Lastly, I will make my final defense of Judas based on my evidence and analysis. Background: The Account of Judas In the New Testament Judas the Iscariot was a descendant of the ancient tribe of Judas. Iscariot means Man of Kerioth, Man of The Cities, and City Slicker. Kerioth was a city north of Hebron. Judas was the only apostle from Judea, while the rest were Galilean. Throughout the Gospels, wherever Judas the Iscariot is named the betrayer. The Conspiracy Theories And Social Issues The phrase conspiracy theory is often expressed with a negative connotation and used as a label for the explanation of outlandish incidents that are hard for the everyday person to comprehend. Conspiracy theorists are often labeled as lunatics that spit out senseless claims with no real substance. The mere mention of the word conspiracy seems to set off an internal alarm bell that causes scholars to close their minds in order to avoid cognitive dissonance and possible unpleasantness, since the popular image of conspiracy both fundamentally challenges the conception most educated, sophisticated people have about how the world operates... Conservatives aren t going to jump on a conspiracy theory that makes other conservatives look bad, and liberals aren t going to believe a theory that undermines liberal causes (Jackson). A similar survey carried out by the New York Times complements the previous study s results and states that In total, the percentage of Democrats who agreed on average with the conspiracy claims in the scale increased from 27 percent before the election to 32 percent afterward. • 48. TEMPEST Essay The Other in the Tempest In order to understand the characters in a play, we have to be able to distinguish what exactly makes them different. In the case of The Tempest, Caliban, the sub human slave is governed largely by his senses, making him the animal that he is portrayed to be and Prospero is governed by sound mind, making him human. Caliban responds to nature as his instinct is to follow it. Prospero, on the other hand, follows the art of justifiable rule. Even though it is easy to start assessing The Tempest in view of a colonialist gaze, I have chosen instead to concentrate on viewing Caliban as the monster he is portrayed to be, due to other characters that are not human, but are treated in a more humane fashion than Caliban. ... Although we are not given details of Caliban s birth, it seems likely that a creature as subhuman in appearance as Caliban was not born of a human union. It has been postulated that, to quote Prospero, he was got by the devil himself upon thy wicked dam, from a union between Sycorax and an incubus (an extremely attractive male apparition with intention to tempt). Caliban was therefore a creature born from passion, the offspring of an unholy pleasure. Prospero was not only of noble birth; he was also born to be ruler of the city state of Milan. Nobility, in Elizabethan times, carried with it heavy implications: it was expected that Prospero would be intellectually superior, and that he would exercise as great discipline over himself as he was expected to exercise over others, in his role of leadership. From their ancestry, Prospero is more ruled by his intellect, and Caliban by his love of pleasure. Caliban s original love for Prospero and Miranda, and his later misdemeanour and subsequent hatred for them, illustrate his fundamental reliance on his senses. Caliban loved Prospero and Miranda because they made much of me ; and his response to this was purely sensual in his recollections: Thou strok st me,...wouldst give me/Water with berries in t. This is evident as unlike Tennis where there is five Tennis Centre s within the Redlands there is only two ballroom dance studios. Due to my failure to succeed in dance this affected my self esteem need and made it hard to enjoy it. Trips to a local studio were needed where we were able to have the use of professional dance teachers making it advantageous. It is one of those moments in Chinese history that is the epitome of Mao Zedong s willingness to experiment, as well as his political genius in seizing control of the forms of government out of the hands of his intellectual and political adversaries within the Communist Party of China. Given that more conservative leaders, such as Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping, were not in agreement with Mao on the policies of the Great Leap Forward. Mao believed the new policy would be so successful in stimulating output and surplus resources that the government would see a net gain in surplus captured from the countryside. Mao saw that this surplus that could be invested in heavy industry, mining, and infrastructure among other things. This optimism about the potential increases in productivity of rural laborers also encouraged the central government to massively relocate labor from agriculture to industry. It would not appear that Mao nor any of his top aides asked themselves one most important questions: What happens if the productivity estimations are wrong? Those on the political left also argued that the Great Leap Forward would help to slow the growing urban unemployment issue. It was thought that the adoption of new technology in the rural areas, and the development of more rural heavy industry, would generate more rural employment opportunities and improve the incomes of rural peasants. These factors would not only eliminate one of the primary motives for moving from the countryside to the urban areas, but would even result in a reversal of the migratory flow, in other words, the industrialization of the countryside would create a better life and people would want to return to the rural countryside from the cities. The government did not rely completely on these economic policies to keep their people on the farms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
