H.NIRMAL KUMAR - B.E,
Phone: 9028692482,
Email: lamrin72@gmail.com
OBJECTIVE:
To work in an environment that will help in my technical growth and at the same time
serving the organization to fulfill my responsibilities to the best extent.
SPECIFIC EXPERTISE:
Professional Experience of 3 years as an FEA Engineer which involves extensive experience
in FE modeling and analysis of Automotive and Aerospace components.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Organization: Quality Engineering & Software Technologies Pvt Ltd, Bangalore
Duration: Nov 2015 – Till date
Organization: Analyzer CAE Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Pune
Designation: FEA Engineer
Duration: June 2013 – Oct 2015
Currently working as a FEA Engineer in “QuEST Global“, Bangalore. I am responsible to
perform analysis on gas turbine engine Installation and complex fabrication components attached
to the engine casing. In addition to that I’m also responsible for analyzing the components based
on the application standard loads.
PROJECTS EXECUTED AT QuEST:
Title: Trent 7000 Mineral Insulated (MI) Disconnect Panel Assembly
Client: Rolls-Royce
• Normal Mode Analysis:
The MI Disconnect panel supports the terminal blocks and the Oil scavenge pipe which is attached
to the LP-IP turbine casing. Dynamic analysis simulating free vibration to predict stiffness and
dynamic behavior of the bracket is performed. The modes and natural frequencies were further
correlated with experimental test data. The critical modes of components which are not meeting
the modal analysis criteria are further undergone forced vibration, Dynamic stress, and fatigue
calculations.
• Frequency Response Analysis:
The Forced Vibration Analysis (FVA) or frequency response analysis is carried out for the critical
modes which are lying within the engine operating range. Stresses are evaluated where the peak
response is obtained. Further, the vibration stresses are combined with the mean stress for HCF
assessment. The recast layer due to laser cutting on these sheet metal brackets are instructed to be
kept/removed as per the requirements.
Title: Trent 7000 Power Door Operating System (PDOS) brackets.
Client: Rolls-Royce
The PDOS brackets allows the fan cowl doors to be opened using powered actuators rather than
being opened manually, which are provided on either side of the engine. Bumper brackets are provided
to support the actuator when it is disconnected from the engine. Linear static analysis was performed at
both closed and open conditions of the fan cowl door under operating conditions. Further, bolt
assessment is carried out to check the structural integrity of the joint.
Title: Trent 7000 Engine Lease Plate Assembly
Client: Rolls-Royce
Dynamic analysis for the Engine lease Plate assembly is carried out and the fundamental frequency
of the bracket assembly is found outside the engine operating range.
• Inertia Analysis:
The structural integrity of the sheet metal bracket is assessed by performing Inertia analysis in
all three directions individually. The HCF assessment was performed by considering the inertia
stresses as the dynamic stresses and compared with the fatigue limit.
PROJECTS DONE AT CRTI (Cummins Research & Technology India):
• Thermal Yielding (Stress to Strength ratio) Analysis for Exhaust manifolds:
The main objective of the SSR analysis is to examine the manifold for yielding under a static high
temperature condition. The process is carried out for torque peak engine operating conditions
considering the worst case depending on the engine calibration and operating environment.
• CCI (Cycles to Crack Initiation) Analysis:
This is a transient thermal analysis meant to capture the high stresses that can occur during
transient engine operation. Due to the different abilities of regions within the manifold to retain and
loose heat, temporary high stress regions may occur that are not present during steady state engine
operation. CCI analysis is performed only if the manifold does not yield under the worst case
conditions (SSR).
• Static Analysis:
The static analysis has been carried out for bolted joints in an assembly under the action of
loading under different scenarios as per the engine standard application. Loading environment
includes assembly loading (bolt preloads, pressure etc), external loadings (inertia loads) and the
combination of these. Majority of analysis carried out for engine block, fuel pump, water pump and
fuel pump supports and gear housing. Bolt joint analysis has been performed by modeling it as beam
using Ansys APDL and also as 3D model of bolt using Ansys WB for both dynamic and external
static load cases.
• Dynamic Bolted Joint Analysis:
Bolted Joints in Cummins are classified based on the temperature they undergo, Cold Joint
(below 2320
C) and Hot Joint (above 2320
C). This analysis intends to design a new hot bolted
Joint analysis for bolt selection, material, need of spacer and washer etc. Also, analyzing the
existing hot bolted joint for comparative analysis perspective or for further design
improvements.
SKILLS IN SOFTWARE:
• Ansys Workbench 15
• Ansys APDL Classic 15
• Stress Code – SC03
• NX-NASTRAN (Basics)
• Pro-E and Unigraphics (Basics)
INTERNSHIP AND TRAINING:
• AIR INDIA - In plant training for maintenance Engineering (Engg
dept).
• INTEGRAL COACH FACTORY - In plant Training for Section Engineers in manufacturing
department.
EDUCATION:
UG – PROJECTS DONE:
• CFD ANALYSIS OF PULSE DETONATION ENGINE:
The main objective of pulse detonation research is to develop an efficient engine that is primarily
used for high-speeds (potentially Mach 5), as well as high-altitudes. The basic concept behind the
technology is to detonate, rather than deflagrate, the fuel. The detonation of fuel results in immense
pressure, which in turn is used as thrust. The main aim of our project was to study the pulse-jet engine to
overcome its major drawback of buzzing noise production, to eliminate this; we replaced the flapper
valves by 2 discs. The next step is to design a pulse detonation engine using CATIA software and its
analysis was done using ANSYS CFX.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
• Industrial visit to INDIAN AIR FORCE at Tambaram, and educated about the various
integrated technologies about the Radar and space navigation.
• Participated in Aero-modeling Workshop held in Jaya Engineering College.
• Participated in Cad modeling & Quiz competition held at St.Peter’s University.
STRENGHTS:
• A good team player with capable of executing the given job within time.
• Good communication skills and a quick learner.
