 The term R&B stands for ‘Rhythm and Blues.’
 It is a genre of popularAfrica-American music.
 This style of music started out in the late 1940s and it was applied to blues records
around that time.
 The meaning attached to R&B has changed over the years. In the 1950s became
used to refer to music styles that developed from and incorporated electric blues
as well as gospel and soul music.
 By the 1970s, R&B was used as a blanker term for soul and funks.
 By the 1980s, a new style of R&B developed known as ‘Contemporary R&B.’This
style of R&B combines elements of rhythm, blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop and
dance.
