The document discusses the new media technologies used at various stages of a project. Photoshop was used to edit a magazine cover and digital pack, manipulating images and adding text. A Wix website documented planning decisions and hosted research. Prezi was used for brainstorming and evaluation, and SlideShare hosted a PowerPoint evaluation. Adobe Premiere Pro was used to edit the music video, applying slow motion, colorization, and precise lip syncing. A Canon camera took original photography for the digital pack. A Samsung camera filmed the entire music video in HD with its long battery life and handheld use.
1. Question 4- How did you use new
media technologies in the
construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Desktop Publishing Software
• In order to create our ancillary task we used Photoshop CS6. We used this particular software
because it allowed us to edit our magazine cover and Digi pack well.
• Firstly we got a image from Google then manipulated it on Photoshop by changing the
contrast and brightness of it by using the properties and curve tool. We also used the text
tool on Photoshop to add a different font style to both our magazine and Digi pack.
Furthermore to position the text in the right way we used the horizontal type tool which
ensures that everything we typed was positioned horizontally on the page.
• Secondly for the front page we used the ellipse tool which is designed to make shapes and fill
them in with a specific colour. So we used this tool to make the message on the front stand
out. This was a usual tool to use because the background was so overpowering we needed
something to make the letters stand out properly.
• Lastly we added original photography to our Digi pack so in order for it to blend well with the
whole theme of the Digi pack we faded the original photography of the artist into the back of
the contact page this was a good idea because it slotted in well and made our Digi pack look
even better. The tools used to do this was the brush tool we selected the colour black so we
could fill all the white areas. We finally selected the curve option so the picture was sent to
the back of the text to give it a lurking effect. As most commonly in house music articles the
artist is never focused on so we wanted to incorporate that convention in our own work.
3. Software Websites
• We used a website called (wix.com) which acted as a online diary to document decisions
made, changes we decided to do, filming accounts and all stages of planning. Wix also
acted as our evidence page because we had to put up all the research we used for our
music video on it. This is a good website because it allowed us to organize our blog in a
clear way for the examiner to read and mark. Also we found this website the most user
friendly out of the options we were given, furthermore we had previously used this
website for AS therefore we decided to use it again.
• Another website we used for our evaluation stage was Prezi which is a web presentation
software. This allowed us to use innovative linking tools to brainstorm one of the
evaluation questions. We decided to use this because the way we was allowed to
present this information was fun and creative which we needed it to be. Furthermore we
also used Prezi at AS so we was once again familiar with how it works and what it does so
it was easier for us to put in what we needed to use.
• Another website we used was slide share for our evaluation this was used because we
wasn’t able to put up our PowerPoint directly from Microsoft so we needed another
software to make it easily accessible for the examiner. So slide share was the best choice
to use as it has been widely used by students around the world so it is a reliable website
to use. Examples of the layout of Wix,
prezi and slide share.
4. Movie editing software
• The movie editing software we used for our music video was adobe
premiere pro CC. We used this software because that was the only
programme available to us so we had to learn how to use it as we went
along.
• The tools we used in this software was slow motion effects and the use of
colorization. We used these particular tools because our audience
feedback advised us to use the slow motion effect and add colour to
particular shots. So we was able to do this by using these tools.
• Another tool on this software we used was precision editing when adding
in the lip synching because we had to make sure the lip synching was in
time with the track otherwise this wouldn’t look professional. So by using
precision editing it allowed us to get the lip synching right on cue
therefore making our music video look as professional as possible.
• Thirdly we duplicated clips so we could add them in at different parts of
the music video we duplicated the clip of the feet dancing, once this was
duplicated it enabled us to select the parts where we wanted to put them
in. This was helpful because we needed our music video to look more like
a dance video instead of a Rom-com.
5. Still Cameras
• We used a cannon S95 camera to take a
picture of the original photography we used in
our Digi pack. This enabled us to upload it to
our computer then edit it on Photoshop.
• Using this camera was useful because we
needed to show that we used our own
photography in our Digi pack and manipulated
existing images.
6. Cameras used for filming
• The cameras we used for filming was a Samsung video
recording camera. This camera enabled us to film our whole
music video in one day because It specialises in long lasting
battery for recording.
• We need this type of camera because it allowed us to record
in HD and also it was handheld so it allowed us to film shots
without having to use a tripod.
