Maj. Gen (Dr.) Ranjit Singh, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) and Professor Emeritus was born on
05 June, 1953 and was commissioned into the Army Educational Corps of the Indian Army
on 16 December, 1978 and retired from active service on 30 June, 2012. Prior to joining the
coveted position as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Haryana on 22 August 2013,
he held the position of the Vice Chancellor, The Global Open University, Nagaland
w.e.f. 11th October 2012 to 21st August 2013 and has also been nominated as Educationist
Member of the Navodaya Vidalaya Samiti since August 2013.

Special Accomplishments /Distinctions:
• Deeply engrossed with the academic concerns, he has made it a mission for his life to guide
the young learners through his scholarly acumen and writings. General Officer contributes
6. articles on various academic issues regularly in many prestigious journals and recently
authored a book on SSB Interviews and Personality Development.
• He has special interest in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, stress
management and psychological development of learners, being an ex-psychologist.
• He has made exceptional contribution in the field of academics by delivering talks and
lectures on relevant issues at different levels in India and abroad. An expert in pedagogy
with M.Ed a nd Master’s De gree in Geogra phy he has c ontributed s ignifica ntly in c ompiling
the history of an Army Corps, IMA and AEC.
• The General officer has had a chequered career with adequate appointments for honing the
managerial skills, ICT skills, soft skills, communication skills, life skills and social skills
among his men at various levels along with adventure camps and the regular classes for
Stress Management, Personality Development, creative thinking, and professional
enhancement for Indian and Foreign learners and delegates.
• The General Officer also served as Commandant of AEC Training College and Centre,
Pachmarhi prior to his retirement which is a premier institute of the Indian Army, the only
one of its kind, conducting 47 different educational courses (including two B.Ed. colleges)
of varying durations.
• The General Officer is the only Army Educational Corps Officer since independence to be
awarded with the Silver Medal for standing first in Order of Merit in Technical and Para
Medal for being the toughest cadet of the course at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in
1978.
• As the educational administrator of Sainik School Imphal, Principal of Military School,
Dholpur, Principal UP Sainik School, Lucknow and Chief Instructor & Principal,
Autonomous
College of Barakatullah University at AEC Training College & Centre, Pachmarhi (MP), the
General had effectively planned, executed and controlled the academic as well as
administrative growth of students adopting innovative pedagogy and interactive modules.
• As the Officer on Special Duty (Def), HQ Kendriya Vidalaya Sangathan, New Delhi,
the General was closely associated with academic and administrative command and
control of all the 364 Kendriya Vidyalayas run in defence sectors.
• Also, as an Inspecting Officer, Sainik Schools Society, Govt. of India, Ministry of Defence
the General committed himself for the holistic and effective management of all the Sainik
Schools in the country and was instrumental in revamping and restructuring the
educational methodology adopted by these schools .
• The officer was closely associated with Curriculum Development, planning and
execution of training modules for adult learners in the capacity of the Head of the
Academic Department, Indian Military Academy as well as Commandant &

• The General Officer had several instructional tenures in the capacity of Training and
Monitoring Officer in reputed academies including National Defence Academy,

• Has done Senior Defence Management Course and Advanced Course in Strategic
Management from CDM, Secunderabad from 1st December 2008 to 26th December 2008
recognized by AIMA, New Delhi.
• Served as short-tenure Psychologist in SSB at Allahabad and Banglore.

Distinction in Sports and Administration
• The General officer holds the distinction of leading the Indian Ice Hockey Team as
Manager to Japan from 20-26 July 2002 and also trained Ice Hockey Team of other
countries in Yoga and Stress Management.
• Trained 90,000 personnel in yoga and Stress Management including officers, families,
Jawans and their children thereby bringing down the stress level in a strategic Corps zone in
the Northern Sector.
• The General officer had varying tenures as Administrative staff and logistics officer at
different formations for a total period of about 12 years.
• The General Officer had brought about a sea change in training activities including
development of training infrastructure at AEC Training College and Centre by converting
classrooms into e-classrooms and six new computer training labs were setup. Focusing
on the infrastructural development, a Campus Wide optical Fiber based computer
network was a ls o put in place and a ‘Campus Manageme nt Sys tem’ was made
operational.
• The General Officer is a Services Lawn Tennis Player who was awarded the coveted
‘Cros s Country Blue ’ at Indian Military Academy, De hradun in 1978. He has e qual
interest in Golf, Badminton, Yoga and Adventure Sports.
