History of Shree Bhaikaka Government Arts and
Commerce College, Sojitra, Anand, Gujarat, India

Shri Bhaikaka Government Arts & Commerce College (SBGACC) Sojitra is
situated in the fertile region of Charotar in Anand district. The college was
established in 2016 by the government of Gujarat. The college was started in M.
M. High School of Sojitra. The separate college building work has been in -
progress. The main objective of the Government for establishing this college is
to benefit rural students of Anand district to avail higher education at the
nominal financial rate in their home place only.

Sojitra Taluka of Anand district has 24 villages under its administration. Sojitra
is native place of Shri Bhaikaka the Founder of Vallabh Vidhya Nagar. Just to
recognise contribution from him for education, the college has prefixed his
name. The place has around 21 temples.
The college has both Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Commerce
programmes affiliated with Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, of
Anand District. Sanskrit, Gujarati and English are major subjects for B.A. and
Accountancy is a major subject in B.Com. As the college is a government
college all the teaching and non-teaching staff is recruited by the government
through proper selection process. The college has been running smoothly for the
last four years now.
The college started with the strength of 41 students (B.A. 27 and B.Com. 14).
Presently, there is a strength of more than 200 students. The college has 14
faculties and 7 non-academic staff.
❖ Emblem and its meaning:
The logo of the college is very much suggestive. The
Swan is in the centre of the logo. The Swan is the
symbol of wisdom and wisdom can only be there if
there is a knowledge. And just below it there is an
inscription, ‘अमृतं तु विद्या’ which means ‘Knowledge
makes human eternal’. So, the combination of the picture and inscription is
really interconnected.

1. B.A. in (English, Economics, Gujarati, Sanskrit)
2. B.Com.
From the next academic year (2021-2022) the college is going to offer B.Com.
in English Medium as well. And also, to start the P.G. centre is a matter under
discussion.

The college is affiliated to Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand,
Gujarat since its inception.
❖ Our Mission:
The Mission of the college reflects the mission of the Government, i.e., to
provide education to economically backward students and to empower them
with knowledge and skills at an affordable cost.
❖ Our Vision:
The Vision of our college is to empower the economically and socially
backward rural students to cope with the changing trends and meet the
challenges by offering quality, value-based education.

❖ Major Achievements:
1. National Seminar on English-Hindi-Gujarati Agricultural Glossary:
Study and Creation in collaboration with Commission for
Scientific and Technical Terminology, New Delhi (MHRD) on
29/30-08/2017.
2. Since last two academic years the college had organised the
placement camp for whole Anand district as we are the nodal
college of Anand district. The students of final year from different

disciplines and subjects got the offer letters before getting the
degree.
3. Plantation of more than 1000 trees in college campus and Sojitra
town.
4. Every year our students reach at district level and state level in
Khel Mahakumbh.
5. Our faculty members have published their articles in national and
international journals and last month one of our faculty members,
Mr. Pratik Shah got the award for the best research paper and the
best presenter.
6. Our unit of NSS has been organising camps in different villages on
different themes like cleanliness, girl child education, general
hygiene etc which has changed the lives of so many people.

This college is lucky enough in getting capable and hardworking
principals with innovative ideas who contributed in the development of
the college. The list of the principal is as follows.
1. Dr. Deep Trivedi (M.A., Ph.D.)
(01/07/2016 to 05/07//2017)
Dr. Deep Trivedi is a dynamic personality having
academic experience of more than 12 years. He was the
first principal(i/c) of the college. He has left the institute
on 05/07/2017 as he was selected as an Assistant
Professor of English at the Department of English,
Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, Junagadh. Presently he has been
rendering his service at IITE, Gandhinagar. He took care of the college like an

infant baby as he was the first principal of the college and the college was just
in its infancy.
2. Dr. Ajaysinh Chauhan (M.A., Ph.D.)
(06/07/2017 to 06/12/2017)
Dr. Ajaysinh Chauhan is a multi fasceted personality
having the academic experience of more than 10 years. He
took the charge of college on 06/07/2017. His main subject
is Gujarati Literature. He contributed a lot in the
development of the college with his insightful leadership.
He left the college as he was selected as a Registrar of
Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Gandhinagar. Presently, he has been rendering his
service as an Associate Professor at Central University, Gandhinagar.
3. Dr. Archana Trivedi (M.A., Ph.D)
(07/12/2017 to 30/08/2020)
Dr. Archana Trivedi took the charge on 07/12/2017. She was
the principal(i/c) in whose leadership the college flourished
like anything. In the visionary leadership of Dr. Archana
Trivedi, the college got many achievements. Her main
subject is Sanskrit Literature. She started her career at
Government Arts College- Vallabhipur, Bhavanagar,
Gujarat. Then she was transferred to this college. She is of
the opinion that co-curricular activities enhances the skills of students and for
that she organised many extra-curricular activities for the betterment of the
students.

4. Dr. Urvi Dave (M.A., Ph.D.)
(01/09/2019 to present)
The college got its first permanent principal when
Dr. Urvi Dave took the charge on 01/09/2019. She
was Associate Professor in government arts college,
Bawala, Ahmedabad and then promoted to this
college as Principal (GAS. Class I). The college is
lucky enough to get the most senior person in
teaching and administrative fraternity from the Gujarat. She has an experience
of 35 years. In her experienced leadership the college has been nurturing very
well.
