13. 2023-2025 Research Goal
Understanding how the learner experience and outcomes
differ with paid compared to volunteer mentors supporting
the community. The assumption is that paid mentors will
provide a more structured learner experience and stronger
teaching presence leading to more learner satisfaction and
improved outcomes.
Volunteer mentors have coordinated WhatsApp groups but
have no specific job duties.
Paid mentors have cohorts of learners they regularly email,
coordinate Facebook Live sessions, manage WhatsApp
groups, and post routinely on social media.
