1. Who would be the audience for your
media product? How did you
attract/address your audience?
2. Age
The genre of music my magazine is more popular with teens and
young adults, however it may attract an older audience
depending on what artist was going to be featured in the
magazine. Teens and young adults are more likely to buy my
magazine because of the way it looks and the content advertised
on the front cover, this includes things like winning tickets to a
festival and reviews of concerts. Concerts are something teens
and young adults would spend their money where as adults
wouldn’t as they most likely have to spend their money on e.g.
mortgage, insurance etc.
3. Gender
The magazine is directed to a male and female
audience this is because the music genre attracts
both male and females. Although rock magazine
normally look like they are catered to males with the
colour schemes consisting of black, red and green, I
have decided to change that and make my
magazine look appealing to both genders.
5. Social Class
My magazine is directed to people who fit within the social class E to
C2; this is people from unemployed / receiving benefits to skilled
working. This is because the people in these categories usually buy
magazine for entertainment and gossip where as people who are
classed as upper class buy magazines to be educated and informed of
facts and information.
The lifestyle the audience are likely to be are YAKS [young,
adventurous, keen and single]. This is because they are likely not going
to have a mortgage or bills as they are probably in university and still
living at home meaning they are able to spend their money on what
they want. These are likely to be things that are advertised in my
magazine such as albums, concert/festival tickets and merchandise.
6. Demographics
Before making my magazine I made a
questionnaire asking people questions about
magazines and what they like and dislike about
them
Because I wanted to create a rock/alternative
genre magazine I made the questions revolve
around rock/alternative genres.
7. Genre
From my questionnaire about music magazines I found many people liked the
same genres of music
• Rock
• Pop
• Alternative
From this I decided to include all of these genres in my magazine. By doing this
it meant I could feature a range of genres in my magazine attracting a wide
range of people. This also means I could format my magazine design to cater
for a pop audience as well as rock and alternative.
8. Featured in the magazine
From my questionnaire I found most people
would like to see articles on bands/artists, this is
because the age group that answered my
questions were aged 16 – 20 and at this age the
audience like to have content to the magazine
so they actually learn and gain information from
it rather than just looking at pictures.
