QUESTION №1
INTRODUCTION
Giving this a media application,
conventions are the audience
expectations whilst watching a movie, for
example, the tension in a drama film or
difficult questions in an movie.
Conventions are similar in similar styles of
films, giving meaning to the genre of the
film and allowing the audience to know
what to expect when seeing a movie. I
researched similar dramas in our genre,
such as "The Pursuit of Happiness",
seeing what conventions they used and
seeing what similar conventions I might
use in my psychological drama.
FILM
My film is about a miserable man who didn't believe in himself and could
not find his place in life. His fate, thinking exactly has changed because of
the two little girls who began to question him about life, thus putting him in
an awkward position. The man became ashamed that even children
understand the meaning of work and education, that girls 13 years old
already earn money by themselves, and he only asks for money from
passers-by.
How the opening of
my film sets up the
rest of my film?
The opening of my film shows my
viewers the main idea of my film.
The semantic content of my first
three minutes lie in the fact that the
poor man has realized his life and
now he is ready to change. In the
main movie a homeless person will
be get ups and downs,
achievements and failures, but in
the result he will obtain his goal.
THE TITLE
The name of my film is “The way
up”. Why did I call my movie like
that? it's simple! The audience
should not perceive the film's title
literally, because then it loses its
meaning. The main idea of my
film is the development and
improvement of a poor man, who
realized his mistakes and wants
to change his life.
THE SOUND
Basically the sound in my film is
divided into two categories:
natural sounds such as traffic
sounds, wind, barking dogs and
human speech, dialogues and
monologues. I have worked
long and hard on the sound, so
it does not distract the audience
from the main idea.
LOCATION
My film was shouted in Russia, in Moscow. This place is not far
from my house, it is the usual urban areas. For me, this option
was perfect because firstly a dump is not far from the house and
that characterizes the homeless, secondly the house is brick , I
liked the red color and I think the shots turned out from there are
very bright and high quality. It also had a Playground that is
inherent in my two characters, because the girls are still just kids.
COSTUMES
I worked quite a long time with the costumes. At the beginning I decided to dress
the girls alike, to emphasize the fact that they are twins. They had bright jackets,
jeans and scarves and hats of the same color.
With clothes for the poor man it was much more difficult. We found an old great
coat and the whole team together were crushed it to looked the coat even worse.
In the end, the jacket was a perfect for actor Andrey and it was very funny
because we tried so hard to mess it up. Had to hook a second coat underneath.
Our actor was very tired and it was very hot. In spite of this we had to get him to
put on an old shoes that was the size he small, but we had no more output.
