Old House Letters
Please forgive me that if this letter bothers you, but I still hope that you can look through this letter. I
want to say something about myself, about this house and about the days I spend in your house, I
also hope that after looking through this letter, you can make a different decision and you will also
know why does this house different to me.
First, I want to say that I change a lot since I came to your house. In the last few years, I always
excessive drinking; however, this summer, I am on wagon and embrace a wonderful time in your
house. For me, the memory that I lived without drinking was in this house and this house witnessed
my change, so this house in some degree is very meaningful to me, maybe it symbols that I could
become a better person.

We went fishing for trout in one freshwater lagoon nearby. Actually in the old days, I had some
pretty good memory, like I still remember my son ran toward me, hand over his eyes, and my family
members and I just driven up to California, we did whatever we want. Due to my excessive
drinking, lots of people choose to get away from me, but in your house, I have the memory with my
wife so I really want to continue this kind of memory, I am old now. The days we spent in your
house just reminds me of my own happiness in the old days. I am lonely, my father was gone and
my children are not companying with me now, the only thing I want now is to cherish every moment
in my life and want the company of my wife; however, the house satisfies me so I really want to
continue to stay here for a few weeks and I know that you may think me very selfish.
Every time when I look toward the window, I am always fascinated by the fantastic scene in front of
me, that just makes want to stay here longer. I know that Linda will return to this house and to be
honest, I am quite upset about her coming. I really want to tell you, but you are the host of this
house and I can not breach your willingness, the only thing

Essay On A Old Farm House
"I keep an extra coat in the barn." He shrugged out of his jacket, holding it out to her. "Take this."
He was much more layered than her and they weren't far from the barn. "You don't have to do that
Rick," she said, beginning to shake her head. "I'm fine. Really. It's just a little windy is all." "It's
only gonna get colder and there's a lot to do out here." She gave him a soft smile, taking the coat
from him. "Thanks." Once they were in the barn she watched in fascination as he mucked out the
stalls and supplied the animals with fresh hay and feed. Then he and Carl demonstrated how to
groom the horse. It was obvious that she was a little out of her element and had probably never been

I'll tell you that. Smells a lot better." "It's easy Michonne," Carl said, pulling her in the opposite
direction, towards where the cattle were kept. "I'll show you." And show her he did. "You have to go
up to them slowly like this," Carl said in a low voice as he patted the side of the cow. "Then we have
to clean them with warm water." She watched as he washed the cow teats with warm water before
demonstrating how to dry them off. He then demonstrated how the "strip" the teat and placed a
bucket underneath to show her how to milk by hand. In the end, she managed to milk one of the
cows on her own and did a very adorable victory dance after her accomplishment. After leaving the
barn, they spent the rest of the day indoors, playing some dusty board games that Rick didn't even
know was in the house. They were remnants of the house's previous inhabitants. Michonne insisted
that they had to play, because it was the ultimate snow day activity. He smiled, thinking of how long
it had been since he was able to just be carefree as Michonne seemed to be. Little did he know; her
carefree attitude would eventually extend to him and his developing household. In the short hours he
spent getting to know her, she revealed herself to be funny, light–hearted and had a unique
perspective of life. She wasn't afraid to have fun or get in touch with her inner child. She wasn't
someone who led a normal life and she lived just as she wanted, doing what made her happy.

Old Ranger Joe: A Short Story
There is an old brown house across the street from mines it is brown, rickety, dilapidated that will
fall to pieces with a simple touch of the pinky. Cow webs decorate the house and the windows have
been shattered. Some people would say witches, old people, and even fallen celebrities live in that
run down house. But no one suspects Old Ranger Joe. Old Ranger Joe a mysterious, quiet man in his
mid 50's. He has blue eyes fill with rage and envy; his hard hardy hands could crush a bone with one
simple squeeze. His silky golden hair runs with the wind and he has a fairly white complexion.
Every night he goes into that house and doesn't come out until everyone has gone to their work or
school. As you walk into the house you are greeted with rats

Personal Narrative Essay
Three weeks ago my fiancé, Jenny, and I moved into a beautiful old home in the outer suburbs of
Boston. Jenny and I met ten years ago at Boston College and have stuck together as I toiled through
medical school and she supported the two of us with her job as a paralegal. I bought this old house
to celebrate finishing my residency and as a way to thank Jenny for working so hard to provide for
us while I chased my dream of becoming a doctor. I could imagine Jenny and I raising a family and
living here for the rest of our lives. Well, that changed soon after we moved in and I found
something terrible living in our attic. –The first few days in our new home passed in a blur as we
coordinated furniture deliveries, stocked the house with food, and ... Show more content on

–My head cleared the top of the ladder and I nearly lost my grip on the ladder as my eyes took in the
horror before me. Human heads in varying states of decomposition adorned the slanted walls of the
attic. The only source of light came from a small, open window. A slight movement in the corner of
the room pulled me back to the present situation. Find Jenny. I moved towards the corner, my right
hand tightly gripping the crowbar, and found Jenny lying on an old bloodstained table. She was
unconscious with a head wound and it appeared as though something had been gnawing on her foot.
Suddenly the trapdoor slammed shut behind me and I heard the metallic click of a lock sliding into
place. –A large, dark figure emerged from the opposite side of the attic. In his hands he held a heavy
chain, at the end of which was a small emaciated dog. They slowly crept forwards and I realized, to
my horror, that it was not a dog at the end of a chain but an old man crawling on all fours. –The next
few moments passed in a blur as is typical when a person is forced into a fight or flight situation.I
immediately charged the gruesome duo with the crowbar raised high above my

Narrative Essay On A Halloween Party
On October 31st my friends Molly and Jordyn and I were getting ready for a Halloween party. We
put our costumes on and checked the address one more time before we left the house. One of
Molly's friends invited us to a party but none of us have been to the house before. So, we were
taking our chances to find our way there. On our way to the party Molly took a wrong turn instead
of going left she took a right.
We didn't realize that she took a wrong turn until we were already driving down a dirt road and we
were out in the middle of nowhere and where there were no houses and where there was no cell
phone service. So, we couldn't call and get directions to the house again. Molly was freaking out
because we got lost and there was no place to turn around at. We were driving for about 5 miles and
we ran out of
gas and our car battery died. So, we were out walking down the dirt road trying to get cell phone
service and that's when this creepy old man with this scary mask on came out of the middle of
nowhere and he walked up to us and started talking to us. He said what are you three girls doing out
here? Molly, Jordyn, and I looked at each other and then looked back at him and said we were on
our way to this Halloween party but we took a wrong turn and started driving down this dirt road
until our car battery died and when we ran out of gas.
The creepy old man told us that just a couple of more miles down the road he had gas, jumper
cables, and an extra battery in his building

Personal Narrative-Old White Houses
I didn't always live on Meadow Ridge Road. But I have always remembered living on it. From the
time I was born to the time I was a year old, my parents and three brothers lived on a road in the
city. I don't know the house I had spent my first year in, but I know the one I'm in now. Back then, it
was just an old white house, with a siding that was no longer produced. The front porch was small,
barely enough room to stand on and only there so people could stand above the snow during winter.
The kitchen floors were wooden, with my father making my brother Lucas and I clean the floors
with a toothbrush as punishment. The living room floors always had some form of urine from our
dog. But that was before I grew up, and changes were made. My house

Old House Fire Case Study
Seeking to bolster their theory of the crime, prosecutors turned to John Lentini, the fire expert, and
John DeHaan, another leading investigator and textbook author. Despite some of the weaknesses of
the case, Lentini told me that, given the classic burn patterns and puddle configurations in the house,
he was sure that Lewis had set the fire: "I was prepared to testify and send this guy to Old Sparky"–
the electric chair. To discover the truth, the investigators, with the backing of the prosecution,
decided to conduct an elaborate experiment and re–create the fire scene. Local officials gave the
investigators permission to use a condemned house next to Lewis's home, which was about to be
torn down. The two houses were virtually identical, and the investigators refurbished the condemned
one with the same kind of carpeting, curtains, and furniture that had been in Lewis's home. The
scientists also wired the building with heat and gas sensors that could withstand fire. The cost of the
experiment came to twenty thousand dollars. Without using liquid accelerant, Lentini and DeHaan
set the couch in the living room on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the windows had blown out of the children's room, Hurst knew that the fire had reached
flashover. With his finger, Hurst traced along Vasquez's diagram the burn trailer that had gone from
the children's room, turned right in the hallway, and headed out the front door. John Jackson, the
prosecutor, had told me that the path was so "bizarre" that it had to have been caused by a liquid
accelerant. But Hurst concluded that it was a natural product of the dynamics of fire during post–
flashover. Willingham had fled out the front door, and the fire simply followed the ventilation path,
toward the opening. Similarly, when Willingham had broken the windows in the children's room,
flames had shot

Short Story : ' Damn ! '
"Damn!" Greg Watson slammed his hands against the steering wheel as the car sputtered and drifted
to a stop. The sounds of lose gravel crunched under slowing wheels. In the bright moonlight he
looked over at his friend Dave passed out in the passenger seat from having one to many beers at the
club they had spent most of the night partying. He nudged Dave once, and received a sleeping snort
and Dave turned more on his side facing away from Greg. "Just great!" He tried turning the key and
starting the engine, but all he got was a click. He pulled the hood release, and reached under his seat
to retrieve the flashlight that he always kept there for emergencies much like this. He got out of the
car and raised the hood and set the hood prop in place, then began to shine his light over the engine,
hoping to just find a lose wire. He knew practically nothing about engines, and Dave was passed out
and would be of no help even though he had worked in an auto garage through his college years.
Greg turned and stood for a moment looking across the moonlit farmland. The damp smell of fresh
turned earth and fertilizer assaulted his senses. A nice country smell, that was clean and crisp in the
night. A frog in the nearby ditch croaked and another across the road answered. Not a house or car
were to be seen for miles. The farmland stretched away from him in a flat stretch that ended in a
shadowy edge, setting a base for the night sky. He looked around, and dug out his

The Boston Freedom Trail Essay
Boston is one of the few cities in the US that offer an ultimate historical experience. With its
fascinating architecture and chic yet peaceful urban environment, this city of wonders will surely
entice every discriminating tourist. "Founded in 1630, Boston is one of America's oldest cities... and
is the largest city in New England. [Boston] is often referred to as the "Cradle of Liberty" for its role
in instigating the American Revolution in the late 18th century" (Bunker Hill College: 2011). "With
more than 12 million annual visitors from across the country and around the globe, indeed it would
be interesting to discover how Boston, a city of cultural history, persuades the diverse needs and
expectations of today's tourists (City of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Certainly, the main reason why it becomes part of the trail is because people with great contributions
in the country like Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and the parents of Benjamin Franklin, are buried in
that cemetery. But for people who never encountered the name Samuel Adams or Paul Revere, this
place is just plots with dead bodies. Brief histories of famous personalities buried are displayed near
the cemetery's entrance; however, they are very nominal and someone who does not have
background in American history would not understand. A Japanese tourist mentioned that perhaps
they should also deliver these descriptions in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, which will be
appropriate for the diverse races of international students and visitors in Boston. Nevertheless, the
style and architecture of the granaries, in general, can also be considered as an American vintage.
Thus, tourists who are not aware about the people buried in the cemetery might just settle taking
pictures with the fascinating gravestones as their background.
The Old South Meeting House The Old South Meeting House is definitely one of the few assets
wherein one can feel a different perspective. Entering the meetinghouse expose visitors to the highly
refurbished establishment that features a written history and old artifacts of the famous tea party and
some of Boston's history. Any visitor with no acquired knowledge about the history of New
England, just by reading and observing the artifacts, can

Analysis Of The Lock Of The Old Two Story House
"I can't believe this is really going to be our new place..." Brielle admitted, as she turned the key in
the lock of the old two story house. It was a bright sunny day in the middle of June in central Iowa,
and the twin sisters, Brielle and Audrey, were getting their dream come true. Since they were little
they had been dreaming of getting to live in their grandparent's house. The old two–story white
house held so many memories. Today, it looked different than it had when they were young. The
white paint was beginning to chip, and the blue shutters had faded from the royal blue they once
were. The girls stood on the massive wrap–around porch looking up at the house. Growing up, this
house had been like a second home to them. Brielle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brielle turned the brass door handle and pushed open the old wooden door and went inside,
followed by Audrey. Right away, they got to work cleaning. They were in the kitchen when their
mom walked in the house to help. Their mom lived about ten minutes away, and the girls knew that
she was more than willing to come help them get moved in.
"Hey, I'm so glad you're here!" exclaimed Audrey.
"Yeah, so am I, we still have a lot to do." agreed Brielle.
"Alright girls, I'll finish the kitchen if you two want to move on to the bedrooms. Hopefully you'll be
able to stay here tonight." instructed Mom.
They left their mom in the kitchen, and went upstairs to the bedrooms. They started with what had
been the guest bedrooms, there were three of them, and saved their grandmother 's room for last. A
few hours later, they were onto their grandmother 's room. Their mother was still working on the
downstairs.
"Well, here we are..." Audrey sighed, looking around the room.
"This room looks the same as it did when Grandma lived here, it seems so wrong to move
everything." Brielle said, feeling guilty. The room 's maroon flowered wallpaper was still intact, and
it was equipped with the same bedroom outfit their grandparents had purchased after their wedding.
The bed still had the multicolored quilt their great grandmother had made as a wedding gift so many
years before.

Garage Door Research Paper
Do you own a home with a garage door? Are you worried about what might happen if your garage
door breaks? When your garage door stops working, it may seem like a simple thing to repair it
yourself. However, here are some reasons to consider hiring a professional instead of attempting the
repair on your own: Garage doors are heavy: If your garage door is bent or otherwise needs to be
replaced, you may think that replacing it yourself is an option. After all, a garage door doesn't feel
that heavy when you open and close it. That lack of weight is a function of the design of your garage
door. Although a large garage door may weigh several hundred pounds, springs or counterweights
help to balance the garage door and make it seem like it weighs less. If you are unprepared for just
how heavy a garage door is when removed from its frame, you might even accidentally trap yourself
in your garage when working on the door. Garage door spring repair is dangerous: The springs that
balance your garage door and make it easy to open and close are ... Show more content on

It can be hard for the average person to find the correct parts to repair their garage door. If you've
ever tried to find bags for a discontinued vacuum cleaner or parts for an off–brand washing machine,
you may run into the same issues when trying to find garage door parts. You may think you've
ordered the correct parts, only to find out that they are the wrong shape or size once they arrive. If
you hire a professional, you won't have to deal with any of this. If they don't already have the part or
parts in stock, they will have the knowledge to locate them more easily and more quickly than you
would be able to do so. This means more time relaxing, instead of tearing your hair out over whether
or not you've finally located the correct parts for your garage

Character Development Of Old Tallow And Omakayas In The...
Paper 2 Character development plays a vital role in stories to create a developing plot. In many
books, it is common to see a relationship between two characters blossom as the story progresses.
Evidence of this can be seen in The Birchbark House between two main characters, Omakayas and
Old Tallow. From the beginning of the story, Omakayas feels a sense of connection with Old Tallow,
but she is not able to pinpoint what exactly makes that connection between the two so strong.
Through life experiences, maturity, and a sense of affection, Old Tallow and Omakayas's
relationship grows continually throughout the novel. These interactions between the two helps the
reader understand the role that Omakayas learns to embrace and flourish in in her community as she
takes on the crucial role of the healer, as well as the steps it took to get there. The Birchbark House
is not necessarily an action driven book, but one that focuses on the life experience that the
community faces together. Omakayas and Old Tallow both face hardships throughout the novel, but
they don't face them alone. One of the most substantial life experiences that the two faces together is
"the visitor." On page 142 we see this devastating event take place. One quote that sums up the
catastrophic impact of the event is found on page 142 and states, "Indeed, what happened changed
the way Omakayas and her family lived from there on." On this page, we find out that the visitor
was a voyageur who appeared to be rather

Descriptive Essay On The Old House
I turned around, looking back at my old room. The paint on the wall is peeling off, the ceiling was
falling apart, and the floor was cracking open. This was the house I have been living for thirteen
years, and now I need to leave. Mom and dad bought this house from an old man, then thirteen years
past, this is 2004. yes, it is already 2004, how fast is it! I stood there, staring at the empty room with
only a little furniture. I can't feel home, where is my home? I don't know this weird feeling. Happy
and sad at the same time. However, if I left, is it going to be an enjoyable life, or it is going to be
another way that leads me to my doom? I kept repeating in my mind. Isn't this what I was always
hoping? To leave this old and dirty house? I told myself to not panic. I turned and look at the broken
window, the reflection of myself. Dark black hair, brown eyes, and a friendly smile. Everyone like
me in this village, if I move to a new place, they will like me too. Would they? Everything is fine as
I expected. But, as I step into our old truck, as I heard the old engine's rumbling sound, I suddenly

Mexico Descriptive Essay
"Don't just stand there! Do something!" my mom yelled across the driveway. Everything was
outside the truck, ready to be put inside. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally
packed everything
When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so
little yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why.
My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there.
Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year's. But we stayed in the gated
community. I wasn't able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of
the gated communities. I always asked myself "How is Mexico beautiful?"
Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but
stray dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn't the image of beautiful I had
in my mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept
driving through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side
of the road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day
and night.
While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the
assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries
old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see
the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll
house my parents asked if I was okay.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just tired" I answered quickly.
After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me
were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples' houses, and people begging for
money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I
woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga's house. She had a large gate around her property protecting
her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house,

for over 150 years, and the ghost has been sending S.O.S. on a ham radio. They were planning to go

Someone was movin' into Mrs. Dirk 's old house, she had died many years back. She used to rock in

Robert Gray Poem- Old House and Late Ferry
'Poetic Language is used to Capture Human Experiences;
`In Robert Gray’s poems, he uses language to capture human experiences. In two of his
poems; old house and late ferry, gray has effectively captured human experiences by his varies
poetic languages and through insight and feeling. Throughout both texts late ferry and old house,
gray’s main message in the poems, with his critical analysis, is the destruction of nature by
mankind.
In old house, gray has captured the human experience of the process of death. He does this through
insight and he effectively conveys this with poetic language such as the use of metaphor. This is the

He uses this imagery in this poem to emphasis this dark place in which he now lives. Deep sea can
be a cold and scary place. This would capture a human experience because deep in the sea would be
a dark and lonely which is something a human can feel and relate to.
Gray expresses, in late ferry, a human experience captured by the language technique of symbolism,
this is of colour. In this text, gray uses the colour of yellow to express light, and sun, and to
emphasis the preciousness of the colour yellow, which also symbolises gold. In this text, gray
conveys yellow as the happy colour of the light, which is more natural and sweet to him, especially
compared the fake lights and colours of the city.
Poetry is definitely language used to capture a part of human experiences. This is evident in both
late ferry and old house, which were written by the poet Robert gray. He informs his audience of the
destruction of nature, and this is happens by mere humans. This is evident by the artificialness of the
city in late ferry, and of an old house actually being an institute in old house. He does this
successfully through various uses of poetic language

Examples Of Old Shoes In The House On Mango Street By...
In The House On Mango Street , by Sandra Cisneros the symbol shoes are relevant. For example,
"The old saddle shoes I wear to school, brown and white, the kind I get every September,"(pg. 47
Cisneros). This shows Esperanza is wearing a new dress, new underclothes, new socks, but the old
saddle shoes. This also shows Esperanza is being laughed at for wearing old shoes, but new clothes.
Another example, "I want to buy shoes just like yours, like your black ones made out of suede,"( pg.
82 Cisneros). This shows Esperanza wants to a black pair just like her mom. She wants something
she cannot have so she decides to ask when she is in a better mood. The symbol shoes relate to
Sally. "Sally do you sometimes wish you didn't have to go home? Do

Bob Ewell's House In To Kill A Mocking Bird
There are many important and peculiar buildings mentioned in this section of the novel. The
jailhouse where Tom is kept, the First purchase church and Maycomb's courthouse, are all examples
of public buildings. Some private residences in Maycomb include the Ewell house and the Radley
house. I think the courthouse and the Ewell house are the most significant buildings in this section,
so I will be focusing on them. What goes on in these buildings is often a reflection of how they look.
First of all, the courthouse's building reflects what goes on inside. One description we learn about
the courthouse is "the pillars were all that remained standing when the original courthouse burned in
1856" (Lee 217). The fact that there are still physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are poor, cheap and awful people. Inside the house, Bob Ewell mistreats his children by
abusing and underfeeding them. The exterior is as mistreated as the interior. Their property is
described as a "playhouse of an insane child" with a fence made of bits of tree limbs, broomsticks
and tool shafts with rusty hammer–heads held on with pieces of barbed wire (Lee 228). This shows
that the Ewell's care very little about the appearance of their house and only make repairs with
things they get for free from the garbage dump, like how they pay little attention to how well the
children are cared for. Their house is also behind a garbage dump with a yard full of trash. The fact
that they live behind the town's garbage dump clearly demonstrates that the Ewell's are the trash of
the town, are worthless, and only care about themselves. They are not all bad though. Their property
has "six chipped–enamel slop jars holding brilliant red geraniums, cared for as tenderly as if they
belonged to Miss Maudie Atkinson" in the corner all in a line by the fence (Lee 228). This
represents the small amount of goodness in the Ewell house coming from Mayella. I think she tries
to be kind to others and help her family, but the problem is that no one cares to help her except Tom
Robinson, who society says is bad. She is so terrified of her father and will just do what he tells her
to, so her attempt at goodness barely shows through

The Pros And Cons Of Technology
Technology is both a blessing and a curse. It can make the lives of people better or it can completely
make everything inconvenient. Technology has gone from something that was once complex to
something used on the daily. It, in fact, may be destroying and taking over society. This idea is
proposed in both "By the Waters of Babylon" by Stephen Vincent Benet and "There Will Come Soft
Rains" by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury, however, presents the most disturbing and cruel views on
technology and society. For instance in "By the Waters of Babylon" Benet presents the idea of
humans still being around even though society, as it is today, is lost. However, in "There Will Come
Soft Rains" Bradbury has no humans in his society. The only thing left of this once thriving city is a
house. A house that controls itself. In turn, this causes Benet's story to be shown from a human's
point of view, as shown on page 315 "All the same, when I came to the Place of the Gods." The first
person quotation shows that even though society was destroyed there are still people left to rebuild
it. In contrast, Bradbury presents the story through third person point of view. Nobody is there, all
that's left is the house's actions. For example, on page 328 it states, "The five spots of paint⸺the
man, the woman, the children, the ball⸺remained. The rest was a thin charcoal layer."
Throughout the whole story, this is the only mention of humans. Whatever destroyed the city took
out the civilization too.

An Age Old Tradition For The House Of Commons
Introduction
Westminster has an age old tradition for the use of division lobbies. The method of voting in the
lobbies for Members of both Houses has remained relatively untouched since its inception, after the
great fire of 1834 . The introduction of deferred divisions in 2004 was considered to be a reform too
far for many members. A more recent development has been the introduction of tablets to record the
votes of members. This change was initially brought about in the Lords. The change in the
Commons was rushed through by the proposals for double majority votes required under the EVEL
legislation. Although the changes would have happened regardless of the need for the double
majority votes. The tablets were only used on EVEL votes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

MPs are the only person out of a constituency of 70,000 or so people who are able to vote. The
significance of voting cannot be understated and as such a system that facilitates this must be robust.
There are a variety of different voting procedures in place around the world, additionally, there are
also different systems used within the UK.
Although the current system has been around for hundreds of years, and when Members are elected
or appointed they know how the system works, it is not without its user errors. A recent example of
this was when Angus McNeil MP hid in the toilet during a vote as he had used the toilet in the
lobby, but hadn't moved out before the vote was called and the doors we locked.
This study will aim to assess the current benefits of the voting procedure. It will then go on to
outline a few of the current problems and propose changes to improve the system such as making it
easier for members to vote, or to make it easier to find out how their representative has voted
following a division.

"This Old House" by David Sedaris, is a story of a younger adult misunderstood by his own family
and most of society who simply just, "longed for a home where history was respected." After taking
a trip to visit an old friend in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he decides to stay in the city longer by
finding work and a place to live. He finds work as a dishwasher in a restaurant hoping to eventually
advance from his current position. After finding work, he then unexpectedly meets his future
landlord who also has the same appreciation for the past. After moving in to his new home, a
friendship blossoms between the main character and his landlord, even with other tenants' opinions

The antagonist of the story would be the landlord, Rosemary and the other tenants of the home. This
is because her portrayed way of life attracted the narrator to Rosemary's house, which in return
almost solely based his decision on living there. Later in the story Rosemary changed into another
person that the main character almost could not recognize. With her change in appearance from
vintage clothing to more updated clothing, as well as her almost disregard for her so much loved
antiques when the main character first moved into the house. The other tenants, mainly the character
Chaz, would constantly ridicule the main character and seem as if their lives were more how life
should be lived. In the entire story being told, there are no exact dates or times stated by the main
character as to when the story being told took place, but from reading through the entire story, it
could be concluded by readers that the story is from a more modern period of time. With the way the
main character refers to the out of date clothing styles he chooses to wear and descriptions of the
past from the depression era and how the other characters, such as the main character's father and
the tenant Chaz always ridiculed the way he dressed or his opinions on how life should be lived.

The Third Floor Of An Old House
Kellie and Gregg had been living on the third floor of an old house in Shanghai. Before moving in
Kellie had expectations of becoming close friends with the multiple neighbors who lived on the
floors below. Once moved in, she realized that the neighbors did not have the same optimism and
would not even say hello.
Kellie did not give up on her quest to make friends with her neighbors and eventually made a little
progress with a couple of them. After a few months, upon returning from vacation, one of the mom's
from second floor helped her carry her bags upstairs. Wanting to thank the mom for her help, she
took them a plate of brownies. After hastily placing one on grandpa's plate, she remembered that the
Chinese were not big on sweets.
One evening, Gregg told Kellie that he saw the neighbors crying. Kellie decided to call the cleaning
lady that she was sure would know why they were crying. The cleaning lady told her, "The old man
isn't there anymore." Not really knowing her neighbors, or which room they actually lived in, she
assumed it was an old man to whom she had given the brownie.
Since they had exchanged some pleasantries, Kellie decided that it would be a proper gesture to take
the family some flowers. Innocently she chose some red roses. Upon delivering the flowers she was
embarrassed to learn that white was the color for death in the Chinese culture. Despite her error in
color, the family kept insisting that she come to the funeral. From what she knew of the

Purpose: At the end of my speech, my audience will be able to identify the three components of

average, "homeowners will spend between 1 to 4 percent of a home's value annually on maintenance

average weight of a foundation is seven and a half tons (Alexander, pg. 2). a. Basement foundations
are common in the northeast (89% of all houses) and midwestern (75%) part of the country. They
provide additional room for families and one of the least expensive ways to expand a home
(Anonymous, 2014). b. The next foundation commonly found in the the midwest as well is called a
crawlspace. The Do It Yourself Network says this foundation gets it name because the house is
literally built above the ground and provides only enough room to crawl under the house
(Anonymous, 2014). c. The last foundation is typically found in the south called a concrete slab
foundation. This foundation is poured directly on the ground due to hardly any movement from frost
and saves on cost. Note that you are not restricted to have a specific foundation due to the region
you live in. For example you can find basement foundations in the south (Anonymous, 2014).
Transition: The next step after the foundation is the framing. Now I will inform you about the
framing of a house. B. Let's start with the definition of framing. 1. According to the dictionary
website, house framing is a rigid structure formed of relatively slender pieces, joined so as to

Descriptive Home
Home. A word that brings comfort and eases the stress and pains of the world. This word uplifts the
soul and drives us to complete the daunting and hectic task of the day in hopes of returning to its
warm embrace. It's our shelter, our essence, our backbone. When people hear the word "home," an
image of high definition comes into their minds, the colors crisp and the smells precise. I wish I had
this luxury. The luxury of attachment. I long for the feeling of walking into a house, and knowing
it's mine; knowing it will never leave and I will never leave it. Being a dependent of the military for
fifteen of your seventeen years does this. You learn to become numb to physical objects and pack
only the things that matter the most to you in a small brown box. That is all you get: a little brown
box.

Jersey Street : A Neighborhood Area And The Twilight Zone
Distinctive residential areas occur through housing types, 87% of houses on Jersey street are
terraced houses, this is due to the position of Jersey Street on the bid rent curve model. Of the three
roads we are analysing, Jersey Street is the closest to the CBD. Because of this the competition for
land and space is high, leading to high land values. Jersey Street has the smallest houses of the three
streets, with little or no garden space, this is due to the competition for space in the inner city. On
the land–use models we are studying, Jersey Street is situated on the boundary of the industrial area
and the twilight zone. Evidence of this is that at the end of Jersey Street there are multiple blocks of

mortgage. The inhabitants of the houses that are owned outright must be one of the have a high

Distinctive residential areas occur through housing occupancy, from the census data, 44% of the
inhabitants on Jersey Street have jobs that are Higher and intermediate managerial, administrative,
or professional positions, and 39% of inhabitants are aged from 30–44 years old. This is the age
people are often settling down and having children and may live in Jersey Street because of the
accessibility to the CBD and their jobs. However 38% (Which is the largest percentage) of the
houses on Jersey street have 2 inhabitants, therefore we can assume that most of the houses have 2
30–44 year olds living in, this could be a couple living together and this is their first house where
they plan to start a family. However many of these couples have not had children because only 17%
of Jersey streets inhabitants are under 18 years of age. This suggests that they may not be able to
afford to have children, or both the inhabitants work full time and cannot afford or don't have access
to full time childcare.

They lead us into the special place hidden away in overgrown vines, which brush across me as I

of the excitement that we have missed in the last year. The cool water washes smoothly over my

Voluntary Memory In Edmund Wilson's An Old Stone House
." He goes on to explain that unlike voluntary memory, a madeleine moment is dependent on
chance. Furthermore, Proust's "madeleine experience initiated for him a whole chain of association,
and from this he achieved the eventual restoration of an entire vanished world." While voluntary
memory can help develop an informal timeline of events along with major details such as location,
involuntary memory fills in the gaps to a greater extent or even uncovers a different timeline while
restoring feelings and senses connected to the recollection. This type of memory is simulated by
something as simple as a pastry, or in Edmund Wilson's case, a window. In "An Old Stone House",
Wilson uses voluntary memory to recollect the history and major details of his childhood home.
Furthermore, his journey back to this childhood home is what triggers his involuntary memory.
Sitting on a train to Talcottville, Wilson narrates, "As I go north for the first time in years... I look
out through the dirt–yellowed double pane and remember how once, as a child, I had felt thwarted
till I had gotten the windows up so that there should be nothing between me and the widening
pastures." Suddenly, when submersed in a familiar setting, Wilson remembers how he felt as a boy
on the same train. The window reveals to Wilson exactly how he felt decades ago, thus restoring a
series of memories essential to further recollecting his youth in upstate New York and writing his
memoir. For Proust it was a pastry, Wilson

King George IIi Of Great Britain
It was the late 1700's, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power–hungry
tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the
colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America what
it is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacre to even occur, there had to be some sort of negative
stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of this
negative stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the colonists.
These acts included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax on stamps
as well as sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the colonies. It
impacted the manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the Colonies.
There was an act passed known as the Townshend Acts of 1767; this act in particular made the
Colonists furious with Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household items such as
paper, glass, and tea. This, of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great Britain did not
have the right to impose these taxes upon them because they did not elect their representatives in
Parliament. As a result of these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel against Great Britain by
boycotting goods shipped over from Britain. In order to maintain the peace and keep order in the
Colonies, King George III and

fame will help them save the old house that stands as the last reminder of the family 's heyday in
turn–of–the–century Shanghai.
To make way for a giant greenbelt, the city is planning to flatten the mansion that Pei 's great–uncle

Shanghai family that produced the architect, the house remains in the path of the wrecking ball.
Death sentences like this are slapped on older homes throughout China. As part of its urban renewal,
Shanghai has been going through a building boom. New highways, high–rises, even parkland and

It was a dark and spine–chilling night and my friends and I stumbled across a really creepy house.
This old house was big and did not have any windows to peek inside of it. I also thought that it
looked very ominous, sinister, and abandoned. My friends wanted to check the house out, but I

They were shaking and said, "we don't want to go into the house anymore," so I said, ok then just
stay outside in the dark and wait for me to finish looking around the house and then we can leave. I
said, it may take a little bit for me to finish looking in the house, but they said, "that's ok." I finished
our conversation and then I went back into the house. When I went back into the house, I heard
something say "DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER" in a belligerent way. I was paralyzed when I heard
something say that, I thought that was kind of an irrational and debacle way of saying it, but I don't

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within
it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family's legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800's, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential
family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the
Pyncheon's glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Show more content on

Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford's return demands Phoebe to
greet him first by saying, "Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break
out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it"
(page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the
darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home.
Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When
the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the
Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found
within her coffin–like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through
the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice's spirit. However, the instrument representing
a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice 's legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin–like
harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease
to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same
threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the
artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, "there

me to discuss what bedrooms we'd be using. I took a brief survey of the possibilities in my mind.
The maid's quarters had three bedrooms, the upstairs proper had five bedrooms, and downstairs
there was the master bedroom and a room next to it with a bed. The only problem I saw with where
to sleep was having too many choices. With three of us in residence, the downstairs option would
only accommodate two and no one was interested in being marooned in some distant corner of what
some locals thought was a haunted house. The rooms in the maid's quarters had more serious
weather damage than in the rest of the house, and they were small and had ... Show more content on

Dad explained, "Apparently when this room was repainted around 1920, and motor oil was
substituted for linseed oil." Each of us pressed our thumb into the bright yellow doorjamb to sample
the paint that was still sticky. The formula produced a paint that had not dried during the forty–year
interim. I was no longer surprised to see that Alson Clark had left his artistic touch in this room too.
Baskets of painted flowers decorated the open spaces toward the top of the eleven–and–a–half–foot
walls.
The room was larger than the tower room and the windows faced the same directions. The only
drawback I noticed was the bed was located five feet or more from the optimal view. A door to the
next room created a corridor that passed the channel side view. Furthermore, the windows facing the
Narrows needed unoccupied space in front of them to access a small outside porch.
Dad knew which room he'd be taking before he left California. He, and Mom too when she moved
in, would stay in the bedroom at the head of the stairs. It is a spacious room with a fireplace in the
right hand corner. Two large windows look out at Keewaydin, which is a property across the back
channel on the New York main shore. I took a close–up look out the window next to the fireplace,
and I could see the coalhouse dock with the Buzz tied up there.
Two more windows were to my left as I entered the room. These windows looked down the main
shipping channel. The

He was much more layered than her and they weren't far from the barn. "You don't have to do that Rick," she said, beginning to shake her head. "I'm fine. Really. It's just a little windy is all." "It's only gonna get colder and there's a lot to do out here." She gave him a soft smile, taking the coat from him. "Thanks." Once they were in the barn she watched in fascination as he mucked out the stalls and supplied the animals with fresh hay and feed. Then he and Carl demonstrated how to groom the horse. "You have to go up to them slowly like this," Carl said in a low voice as he patted the side of the cow. "Then we have to clean them with warm water." She watched as he washed the cow teats with warm water before demonstrating how to dry them off. He then demonstrated how the "strip" the teat and placed a bucket underneath to show her how to milk by hand. In the end, she managed to milk one of the cows on her own and did a very adorable victory dance after her accomplishment. After leaving the barn, they spent the rest of the day indoors, playing some dusty board games that Rick didn't even know was in the house. They were remnants of the house's previous inhabitants. Michonne insisted that they had to play, because it was the ultimate snow day activity. He smiled, thinking of how long it had been since he was able to just be carefree as Michonne seemed to be. Little did he know; her carefree attitude would eventually extend to him and his developing household. In the short hours he spent getting to know her, she revealed herself to be funny, light–hearted and had a unique perspective of life. • 7. Personal Narrative Essay Three weeks ago my fiancé, Jenny, and I moved into a beautiful old home in the outer suburbs of Boston. Jenny and I met ten years ago at Boston College and have stuck together as I toiled through medical school and she supported the two of us with her job as a paralegal. I bought this old house to celebrate finishing my residency and as a way to thank Jenny for working so hard to provide for us while I chased my dream of becoming a doctor. I could imagine Jenny and I raising a family and living here for the rest of our lives. Well, that changed soon after we moved in and I found something terrible living in our attic. –The first few days in our new home passed in a blur as we coordinated furniture deliveries, stocked the house with food, and ... Human heads in varying states of decomposition adorned the slanted walls of the attic. The only source of light came from a small, open window. A slight movement in the corner of the room pulled me back to the present situation. Find Jenny. I moved towards the corner, my right hand tightly gripping the crowbar, and found Jenny lying on an old bloodstained table. She was unconscious with a head wound and it appeared as though something had been gnawing on her foot. Suddenly the trapdoor slammed shut behind me and I heard the metallic click of a lock sliding into place. –A large, dark figure emerged from the opposite side of the attic. In his hands he held a heavy chain, at the end of which was a small emaciated dog. They slowly crept forwards and I realized, to my horror, that it was not a dog at the end of a chain but an old man crawling on all fours. –The next few moments passed in a blur as is typical when a person is forced into a fight or flight situation.I immediately charged the gruesome duo with the crowbar raised high above my ... We put our costumes on and checked the address one more time before we left the house. One of Molly's friends invited us to a party but none of us have been to the house before. So, we were taking our chances to find our way there. On our way to the party Molly took a wrong turn instead of going left she took a right. We didn't realize that she took a wrong turn until we were already driving down a dirt road and we were out in the middle of nowhere and where there were no houses and where there was no cell phone service. So, we couldn't call and get directions to the house again. Molly was freaking out because we got lost and there was no place to turn around at. We were driving for about 5 miles and we ran out of gas and our car battery died. So, we were out walking down the dirt road trying to get cell phone service and that's when this creepy old man with this scary mask on came out of the middle of nowhere and he walked up to us and started talking to us. He said what are you three girls doing out here? Molly, Jordyn, and I looked at each other and then looked back at him and said we were on our way to this Halloween party but we took a wrong turn and started driving down this dirt road until our car battery died and when we ran out of gas. • 11. Personal Narrative-Old White Houses I didn't always live on Meadow Ridge Road. But I have always remembered living on it. From the time I was born to the time I was a year old, my parents and three brothers lived on a road in the city. I don't know the house I had spent my first year in, but I know the one I'm in now. Back then, it was just an old white house, with a siding that was no longer produced. The front porch was small, barely enough room to stand on and only there so people could stand above the snow during winter. The kitchen floors were wooden, with my father making my brother Lucas and I clean the floors with a toothbrush as punishment. The living room floors always had some form of urine from our dog. • 13. Old House Fire Case Study Seeking to bolster their theory of the crime, prosecutors turned to John Lentini, the fire expert, and John DeHaan, another leading investigator and textbook author. Despite some of the weaknesses of the case, Lentini told me that, given the classic burn patterns and puddle configurations in the house, he was sure that Lewis had set the fire: "I was prepared to testify and send this guy to Old Sparky"– the electric chair. To discover the truth, the investigators, with the backing of the prosecution, decided to conduct an elaborate experiment and re–create the fire scene. Local officials gave the investigators permission to use a condemned house next to Lewis's home, which was about to be torn down. The two houses were virtually identical, and the investigators refurbished the condemned one with the same kind of carpeting, curtains, and furniture that had been in Lewis's home. The scientists also wired the building with heat and gas sensors that could withstand fire. The cost of the experiment came to twenty thousand dollars. Without using liquid accelerant, Lentini and DeHaan set the couch in the living room on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the windows had blown out of the children's room, Hurst knew that the fire had reached flashover. With his finger, Hurst traced along Vasquez's diagram the burn trailer that had gone from the children's room, turned right in the hallway, and headed out the front door. John Jackson, the prosecutor, had told me that the path was so "bizarre" that it had to have been caused by a liquid accelerant. But Hurst concluded that it was a natural product of the dynamics of fire during post– flashover. Willingham had fled out the front door, and the fire simply followed the ventilation path, toward the opening. • 15. Short Story : ' Damn ! ' "Damn!" Greg Watson slammed his hands against the steering wheel as the car sputtered and drifted to a stop. The sounds of lose gravel crunched under slowing wheels. In the bright moonlight he looked over at his friend Dave passed out in the passenger seat from having one to many beers at the club they had spent most of the night partying. He nudged Dave once, and received a sleeping snort and Dave turned more on his side facing away from Greg. "Just great!" He tried turning the key and starting the engine, but all he got was a click. He pulled the hood release, and reached under his seat to retrieve the flashlight that he always kept there for emergencies much like this. He got out of the car and raised the hood and set the hood prop in place, then began to shine his light over the engine, hoping to just find a lose wire. He knew practically nothing about engines, and Dave was passed out and would be of no help even though he had worked in an auto garage through his college years. Greg turned and stood for a moment looking across the moonlit farmland. The damp smell of fresh turned earth and fertilizer assaulted his senses. A nice country smell, that was clean and crisp in the night. A frog in the nearby ditch croaked and another across the road answered. Not a house or car were to be seen for miles. • 17. The Boston Freedom Trail Essay Boston is one of the few cities in the US that offer an ultimate historical experience. With its fascinating architecture and chic yet peaceful urban environment, this city of wonders will surely entice every discriminating tourist. "Founded in 1630, Boston is one of America's oldest cities... and is the largest city in New England. [Boston] is often referred to as the "Cradle of Liberty" for its role in instigating the American Revolution in the late 18th century" (Bunker Hill College: 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certainly, the main reason why it becomes part of the trail is because people with great contributions in the country like Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and the parents of Benjamin Franklin, are buried in that cemetery. But for people who never encountered the name Samuel Adams or Paul Revere, this place is just plots with dead bodies. Brief histories of famous personalities buried are displayed near the cemetery's entrance; however, they are very nominal and someone who does not have background in American history would not understand. A Japanese tourist mentioned that perhaps they should also deliver these descriptions in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, which will be appropriate for the diverse races of international students and visitors in Boston. Nevertheless, the style and architecture of the granaries, in general, can also be considered as an American vintage. Thus, tourists who are not aware about the people buried in the cemetery might just settle taking pictures with the fascinating gravestones as their background. • 19. Analysis Of The Lock Of The Old Two Story House "I can't believe this is really going to be our new place..." Brielle admitted, as she turned the key in the lock of the old two story house. It was a bright sunny day in the middle of June in central Iowa, and the twin sisters, Brielle and Audrey, were getting their dream come true. Since they were little they had been dreaming of getting to live in their grandparent's house. The old two–story white house held so many memories. Today, it looked different than it had when they were young. The white paint was beginning to chip, and the blue shutters had faded from the royal blue they once were. The girls stood on the massive wrap–around porch looking up at the house. Growing up, this house had been like a second home to them. Brielle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Hey, I'm so glad you're here!" exclaimed Audrey. "Yeah, so am I, we still have a lot to do." agreed Brielle. "Alright girls, I'll finish the kitchen if you two want to move on to the bedrooms. Hopefully you'll be able to stay here tonight." instructed Mom. They left their mom in the kitchen, and went upstairs to the bedrooms. They started with what had been the guest bedrooms, there were three of them, and saved their grandmother 's room for last. A few hours later, they were onto their grandmother 's room. Their mother was still working on the downstairs. "Well, here we are..." Audrey sighed, looking around the room. "This room looks the same as it did when Grandma lived here, it seems so wrong to move everything." Brielle said, feeling guilty. The room 's maroon flowered wallpaper was still intact, and it was equipped with the same bedroom outfit their grandparents had purchased after their wedding. The bed still had the multicolored quilt their great grandmother had made as a wedding gift so many years before. "We have to do it though, it 's our house now, and we need the rooms. • 21. Garage Door Research Paper Do you own a home with a garage door? Are you worried about what might happen if your garage door breaks? When your garage door stops working, it may seem like a simple thing to repair it yourself. However, here are some reasons to consider hiring a professional instead of attempting the repair on your own: Garage doors are heavy: If your garage door is bent or otherwise needs to be replaced, you may think that replacing it yourself is an option. After all, a garage door doesn't feel that heavy when you open and close it. That lack of weight is a function of the design of your garage door. Although a large garage door may weigh several hundred pounds, springs or counterweights help to balance the garage door and make it seem like it weighs less. If you are unprepared for just how heavy a garage door is when removed from its frame, you might even accidentally trap yourself in your garage when working on the door. • 23. Character Development Of Old Tallow And Omakayas In The... Paper 2 Character development plays a vital role in stories to create a developing plot. In many books, it is common to see a relationship between two characters blossom as the story progresses. Evidence of this can be seen in The Birchbark House between two main characters, Omakayas and Old Tallow. From the beginning of the story, Omakayas feels a sense of connection with Old Tallow, but she is not able to pinpoint what exactly makes that connection between the two so strong. Through life experiences, maturity, and a sense of affection, Old Tallow and Omakayas's relationship grows continually throughout the novel. These interactions between the two helps the reader understand the role that Omakayas learns to embrace and flourish in in her community as she takes on the crucial role of the healer, as well as the steps it took to get there. The Birchbark House is not necessarily an action driven book, but one that focuses on the life experience that the community faces together. Omakayas and Old Tallow both face hardships throughout the novel, but they don't face them alone. One of the most substantial life experiences that the two faces together is "the visitor." On page 142 we see this devastating event take place. • 25. Descriptive Essay On The Old House I turned around, looking back at my old room. The paint on the wall is peeling off, the ceiling was falling apart, and the floor was cracking open. This was the house I have been living for thirteen years, and now I need to leave. Mom and dad bought this house from an old man, then thirteen years past, this is 2004. yes, it is already 2004, how fast is it! I stood there, staring at the empty room with only a little furniture. I can't feel home, where is my home? I don't know this weird feeling. Happy and sad at the same time. However, if I left, is it going to be an enjoyable life, or it is going to be another way that leads me to my doom? I kept repeating in my mind. Isn't this what I was always hoping? To leave this old and dirty house? I told myself to not panic. I turned and look at the broken window, the reflection of myself. Dark black hair, brown eyes, and a friendly smile. Everyone like me in this village, if I move to a new place, they will like me too. Would they? Everything is fine as I expected. But, as I step into our old truck, as I heard the old engine's rumbling sound, I suddenly realized what am I facing. I am facing the unknown, it's like a black hole, you never know what is going to happen when you step inside. It's endless. As this thought continuously flows through my mind, my eye lid started to felt heavier, heavier and heavier as the truck slowly drives on the muddy road. • 31. Mexico Descriptive Essay "Don't just stand there! Do something!" my mom yelled across the driveway. Everything was outside the truck, ready to be put inside. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally packed everything When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so little yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why. My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there. Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year's. But we stayed in the gated community. I wasn't able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of the gated communities. I always asked myself "How is Mexico beautiful?" Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn't the image of beautiful I had in my mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and night. While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll house my parents asked if I was okay. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just tired" I answered quickly. After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples' houses, and people begging for money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga's house. She had a large gate around her property protecting her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In two of his poems; old house and late ferry, gray has effectively captured human experiences by his varies poetic languages and through insight and feeling. Throughout both texts late ferry and old house, gray’s main message in the poems, with his critical analysis, is the destruction of nature by mankind. In old house, gray has captured the human experience of the process of death. He does this through insight and he effectively conveys this with poetic language such as the use of metaphor. He uses this imagery in this poem to emphasis this dark place in which he now lives. Deep sea can be a cold and scary place. This would capture a human experience because deep in the sea would be a dark and lonely which is something a human can feel and relate to. Gray expresses, in late ferry, a human experience captured by the language technique of symbolism, this is of colour. In this text, gray uses the colour of yellow to express light, and sun, and to emphasis the preciousness of the colour yellow, which also symbolises gold. In this text, gray conveys yellow as the happy colour of the light, which is more natural and sweet to him, especially compared the fake lights and colours of the city. Poetry is definitely language used to capture a part of human experiences. This is evident in both late ferry and old house, which were written by the poet Robert gray. He informs his audience of the destruction of nature, and this is happens by mere humans. The jailhouse where Tom is kept, the First purchase church and Maycomb's courthouse, are all examples of public buildings. Some private residences in Maycomb include the Ewell house and the Radley house. I think the courthouse and the Ewell house are the most significant buildings in this section, so I will be focusing on them. What goes on in these buildings is often a reflection of how they look. First of all, the courthouse's building reflects what goes on inside. One description we learn about the courthouse is "the pillars were all that remained standing when the original courthouse burned in 1856" (Lee 217). The fact that there are still physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are poor, cheap and awful people. Inside the house, Bob Ewell mistreats his children by abusing and underfeeding them. The exterior is as mistreated as the interior. Their property is described as a "playhouse of an insane child" with a fence made of bits of tree limbs, broomsticks and tool shafts with rusty hammer–heads held on with pieces of barbed wire (Lee 228). This shows that the Ewell's care very little about the appearance of their house and only make repairs with things they get for free from the garbage dump, like how they pay little attention to how well the children are cared for. Their house is also behind a garbage dump with a yard full of trash. The fact that they live behind the town's garbage dump clearly demonstrates that the Ewell's are the trash of the town, are worthless, and only care about themselves. They are not all bad though. Their property has "six chipped–enamel slop jars holding brilliant red geraniums, cared for as tenderly as if they belonged to Miss Maudie Atkinson" in the corner all in a line by the fence (Lee 228). This represents the small amount of goodness in the Ewell house coming from Mayella. • 43. The Pros And Cons Of Technology Technology is both a blessing and a curse. It can make the lives of people better or it can completely make everything inconvenient. Technology has gone from something that was once complex to something used on the daily. It, in fact, may be destroying and taking over society. This idea is proposed in both "By the Waters of Babylon" by Stephen Vincent Benet and "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury, however, presents the most disturbing and cruel views on technology and society. For instance in "By the Waters of Babylon" Benet presents the idea of humans still being around even though society, as it is today, is lost. However, in "There Will Come Soft Rains" Bradbury has no humans in his society. The only thing left of this once thriving city is a house. A house that controls itself. In turn, this causes Benet's story to be shown from a human's point of view, as shown on page 315 "All the same, when I came to the Place of the Gods." The first person quotation shows that even though society was destroyed there are still people left to rebuild it. In contrast, Bradbury presents the story through third person point of view. Nobody is there, all that's left is the house's actions. For example, on page 328 it states, "The five spots of paint⸺the man, the woman, the children, the ball⸺remained. The rest was a thin charcoal layer." Throughout the whole story, this is the only mention of humans. Whatever destroyed the city took out the civilization too. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The method of voting in the lobbies for Members of both Houses has remained relatively untouched since its inception, after the great fire of 1834 . Although the current system has been around for hundreds of years, and when Members are elected or appointed they know how the system works, it is not without its user errors. A recent example of this was when Angus McNeil MP hid in the toilet during a vote as he had used the toilet in the lobby, but hadn't moved out before the vote was called and the doors we locked. This study will aim to assess the current benefits of the voting procedure. It will then go on to outline a few of the current problems and propose changes to improve the system such as making it easier for members to vote, or to make it easier to find out how their representative has voted following a division. They provide additional room for families and one of the least expensive ways to expand a home (Anonymous, 2014). b. The next foundation commonly found in the the midwest as well is called a crawlspace. The Do It Yourself Network says this foundation gets it name because the house is literally built above the ground and provides only enough room to crawl under the house (Anonymous, 2014). c. Note that you are not restricted to have a specific foundation due to the region you live in. For example you can find basement foundations in the south (Anonymous, 2014). Transition: The next step after the foundation is the framing. Now I will inform you about the framing of a house. B. Let's start with the definition of framing. 1. According to the dictionary website, house framing is a rigid structure formed of relatively slender pieces, joined so as to surround sizable empty spaces or nonstructural panels, and ... • 55. Descriptive Home Home. A word that brings comfort and eases the stress and pains of the world. This word uplifts the soul and drives us to complete the daunting and hectic task of the day in hopes of returning to its warm embrace. It's our shelter, our essence, our backbone. When people hear the word "home," an image of high definition comes into their minds, the colors crisp and the smells precise. I wish I had this luxury. The luxury of attachment. I long for the feeling of walking into a house, and knowing it's mine; knowing it will never leave and I will never leave it. Being a dependent of the military for fifteen of your seventeen years does this. You learn to become numb to physical objects and pack only the things that matter the most to you in a small brown box. That is all you get: a little brown box. Home #1. Location: Alaska. I guess this my first real home. I surely don't remember the atmosphere of it all, for I was only a baby. My parents filled the void of my memories with stories of their time there. Like how they had to cover the windows with blankets and tin foil when the land was enveloped in never ending daylight, just to get an ounce of sleep. Or how they had to bustle around the town in the precarious state of civil twilight. They made Alaska seem so foreign and mysterious. My first home is still a mystery to me, and will probably always be. Home #2. Location: Utah. This home is where I began to develop memories. My first memory was, in fact, a nightmare. Jersey Street : A Neighborhood Area And The Twilight Zone Distinctive residential areas occur through housing types, 87% of houses on Jersey street are terraced houses, this is due to the position of Jersey Street on the bid rent curve model. Of the three roads we are analysing, Jersey Street is the closest to the CBD. Because of this the competition for land and space is high, leading to high land values. Jersey Street has the smallest houses of the three streets, with little or no garden space, this is due to the competition for space in the inner city. On the land–use models we are studying, Jersey Street is situated on the boundary of the industrial area and the twilight zone. • 61. Voluntary Memory In Edmund Wilson's An Old Stone House ." He goes on to explain that unlike voluntary memory, a madeleine moment is dependent on chance. Furthermore, Proust's "madeleine experience initiated for him a whole chain of association, and from this he achieved the eventual restoration of an entire vanished world." While voluntary memory can help develop an informal timeline of events along with major details such as location, involuntary memory fills in the gaps to a greater extent or even uncovers a different timeline while restoring feelings and senses connected to the recollection. This type of memory is simulated by something as simple as a pastry, or in Edmund Wilson's case, a window. In "An Old Stone House", Wilson uses voluntary memory to recollect the history and major details of his childhood home. Furthermore, his journey back to this childhood home is what triggers his involuntary memory. Sitting on a train to Talcottville, Wilson narrates, "As I go north for the first time in years... I look out through the dirt–yellowed double pane and remember how once, as a child, I had felt thwarted till I had gotten the windows up so that there should be nothing between me and the widening pastures." Suddenly, when submersed in a familiar setting, Wilson remembers how he felt as a boy on the same train. The window reveals to Wilson exactly how he felt decades ago, thus restoring a series of memories essential to further recollecting his youth in upstate New York and writing his memoir. • 63. King George IIi Of Great Britain It was the late 1700's, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power–hungry tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America what it is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacre to even occur, there had to be some sort of negative stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of this negative stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the colonists. These acts included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax on stamps as well as sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the colonies. It impacted the manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the Colonies. There was an act passed known as the Townshend Acts of 1767; this act in particular made the Colonists furious with Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household items such as paper, glass, and tea. This, of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great Britain did not have the right to impose these taxes upon them because they did not elect their representatives in Parliament. As a result of these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel against Great Britain by boycotting goods shipped over from Britain. • 65. Descriptive Essay On The Old House The scenery is still very warming like a puppy that is held close to your chest. The old water tower remains standing protruding through the earth. Dust floats in the air, creating clouds, when we drive down the jerky road. I look around, nothing has changed from last time I was here, the grain bins still reflect the sun. Each corn stalk stood tall and firm making it difficult for me to see what mom and I always drive for. The pressure on the gas pedal increased giving the car a jolt of energy like a kid who has just three bags of candy. Then it came into view, with the tree swing still hanging in the backyard waiting for someone. I pulled into the carmel driveway shifting the car into park allowing it to rest and closed the door with a "clunk". As I turned around the house stood silently still, I took a deep filling my lungs with the most amazing feeling. The old house was losing part of its skin producing tiny, white flakes arranged around the yard, and the shingles on top of the roof were trying to hang on the best they could. I took my first step towards the front door walking up the sturdy, metal bicycle ramp, noticing the tiny slots that allowed you to view what was beneath you. When I raised my head I realized the front door had not changed at all, the orange paint was still faded and was starting to show more white but not much. But relatives of the renowned architect are clinging to the hope that his fame will help them save the old house that stands as the last reminder of the family 's heyday in turn–of–the–century Shanghai. To make way for a giant greenbelt, the city is planning to flatten the mansion that Pei 's great–uncle bought in 1911. Despite its designation for historic preservation and its connection to the prominent Shanghai family that produced the architect, the house remains in the path of the wrecking ball. Death sentences like this are slapped on older homes throughout China. As part of its urban renewal, Shanghai has been going through a building boom. New highways, high–rises, even parkland and open spaces have replaced historic homes that graced this legendary port city. Few owners have the power to resist. Most of Pei 's family now lives overseas. The only ones left are either too old to do anything about the possible demolition or too young to have any pull. Interviewed by phone from his home in New York, the 83–year–old Pei would say only that he left China nearly seven decades ago, doesn 't remember his great–uncle 's house and doesn 't know enough about the situation to help. The family here, which spells its name Bei, still hopes that his fame will make a difference. • 71. Descriptive Essay About A Old House It was a dark and spine–chilling night and my friends and I stumbled across a really creepy house. This old house was big and did not have any windows to peek inside of it. I also thought that it looked very ominous, sinister, and abandoned. My friends wanted to check the house out, but I didn't want to go in. I thought the house looked eerie and ghastly, but they said, "you'll be fine your just a chicken." I wanted to shriek it looked so scary, but instead, I said, I am not a chicken, I'll show you. I went into the house by myself... there were COBWEBS, SPIDERS, and BUGS OH MY! I suddenly heard my friends outside talking and I came out to see what the commotion was all about? They were shaking and said, "we don't want to go into the house anymore," so I said, ok then just stay outside in the dark and wait for me to finish looking around the house and then we can leave. I said, it may take a little bit for me to finish looking in the house, but they said, "that's ok." I finished our conversation and then I went back into the house. When I went back into the house, I heard something say "DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER" in a belligerent way. I was paralyzed when I heard something say that, I thought that was kind of an irrational and debacle way of saying it, but I don't think they meant to say it in a malicious way. I then heard something say "YOU SHALL NOT GO ANY FURTHER!" the second time, they then started to say it incessantly, it kind of got annoying. Then something said, "ARE ... • 73. The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family's legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800's, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the Pyncheon's glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin–like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice's spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice 's legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin–like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, "there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Essay on Where Will We Sleep in this Big Old House? While sitting on the porch after I'd finished exploring the guest book, I recall Deb and Dad joining me to discuss what bedrooms we'd be using. I took a brief survey of the possibilities in my mind. The maid's quarters had three bedrooms, the upstairs proper had five bedrooms, and downstairs there was the master bedroom and a room next to it with a bed. The only problem I saw with where to sleep was having too many choices. With three of us in residence, the downstairs option would only accommodate two and no one was interested in being marooned in some distant corner of what some locals thought was a haunted house. The rooms in the maid's quarters had more serious weather damage than in the rest of the house, and they were small and had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of us pressed our thumb into the bright yellow doorjamb to sample the paint that was still sticky. The formula produced a paint that had not dried during the forty–year interim. I was no longer surprised to see that Alson Clark had left his artistic touch in this room too. Baskets of painted flowers decorated the open spaces toward the top of the eleven–and–a–half–foot walls. The room was larger than the tower room and the windows faced the same directions. The only drawback I noticed was the bed was located five feet or more from the optimal view. A door to the next room created a corridor that passed the channel side view. Furthermore, the windows facing the Narrows needed unoccupied space in front of them to access a small outside porch. Dad knew which room he'd be taking before he left California. He, and Mom too when she moved in, would stay in the bedroom at the head of the stairs. It is a spacious room with a fireplace in the right hand corner.
