The Impact Of Hawala On The Middle East, North Africa,...
Hawala
Hawala is a money transferring system that's used in places such as the Middle East, North Africa,
South Asia, and the idea is that a group of money brokers (Hawala dealers) rely solely on the honor
system to transfer large amounts of money between two places, or people, without raising any red
flags when it comes to law enforcement. As you can imagine, criminals have been able to take
advantage of this system to escape traditional banking methods. Hawala is a method of transferring
money without any actual movement of money to an intended destination. Hawala is subject to little
or no paper and electronic trail because the system is solely based on the trust and honor of another
human being and there is no traceable money from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To exchange banking transactions, each financial institution and bank must have a banking
relationship by either being a bank or affiliating itself with one in order to enjoy the much sought–
after business features.
C.H.I.P.S
C.H.I.P.S stands for Clearing House Interbank Payment System. It's a real–time multilevel payment
system. CHIPS handle more than 95% of US dollar foreign exchange payments and are subject to
paper and electronic trail due to the fact that the money can be traced. In one day, CHIPS settles 1.5
trillion dollars and currently CHIPS has a network of 50 Bank participants worldwide. Here is an
example of the working process for CHIPS: Client A purchases goods from client B and client B
requests for the payment. Therefore client A calls his bank and says "I need to pay 1 million dollars
to client B", and he gives the bank 1 million dollars. Now, client A's bank has to transfer 1 million
dollars to client B's bank. How does client A's bank transfer the money to client B's bank, you may
ask? Well the answer is through CHIPS. CHIPS will open a CHIPS account for each participant
(client A and client B) and the CHIPS account consists of a primary account and supplemental
account. The primary account is a funding requirement for each participant and the supplemental
account is the account for the payment. In this case referring to the example, client A's Bank will
transfer the money into his CHIPS

Nonverbal, Interpersonal, and Textual Communication Worksheet
Nonverbal communication plays an essential role in any conversation. Individuals who are aware of
nonverbal actions during conversations can more effectively interpret what is being communicated.
Look at the interactions between the individuals in the following photos and interpret what you
think is being expressed through nonverbal communication. Please describe the nonverbal cues that
lead you to these interpretations.

Compose responses to each of the following questions in separate paragraphs.
1. Which of the images demonstrates an interpersonal communication exchange? How can you tell?
Picture number three demonstrates an interpersonal communication exchange because interpersonal
communication is face–to–face communication with a person.
2. What types of interpersonal communication are being displayed in the images? Why?
Textual communication also plays a role in communication with others. It is important to recognize
that textual information may gain deeper meaning when the text is spoken or viewed in a specific
context versus when it is read.
Read the following quotes and interpret what you think is being expressed. Write 50 to100 words
per quote and support your responses. If you wish to include references, please format your
responses consistent with APA guidelines.
"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which
it is poured." – Mark Twain Wow. I must say I agree with this quote. I am known to have a bad
anger problem and sometimes the anger that I feel towards people hurts me a lot more than it does

The check is a negotiable instrument and is honored by the bank to which it is drawn and in some
circumstances is endorsed by third party like discounting of bills of exchange. In this case, the issue
is discussed that whether the third party, a check cashing store qualifies as a holder of check in due
course and can collect the amount of check or not. Like bills of exchange, the checks is endorsed by
the third party who takes a certain amount while as fee and pays the cash and get the check cleared
from the bank at its own. This is happened in this case and briefly discussed and argued before the
court where the court gave its particular judgment and declared one check as legitimate while the
other was not.(Marson, 2011) Facts: A sale of investment of $ 75,000 was made by Rivera "financial
advisor" to Talcott & his companion Guarino to an old person of Massachusetts resident a ninety
three years old Talcott. No return was produced by the investment and Rivera, in a telephone call on
January 10 2000, demanded Talcott to send a check for $ 10,000 against travel expenses to obtain a
return on the investment and the check will have to be made out in the name of Guarino. Guarino
has a privilege of check encashment with Any Kind Checks Cashed, Inc. and became its customer
through his social security number and driver's license identification. He showed himself as a

Description of the Different Systems Used in a Supermarket like Tesco and A Bank A super market
that I am going to write about is Tesco. Tesco is the largest food retailer in the world. Like other
many large super markets, Tesco has concentrated on building large out– of– town stores with petrol
stations, cafés and large car parks. Tesco was one of the first high– street stores to use a barcode
reader, which is now called a laser scanner. The objectives of the scanning system were to improve
the service to customers and to increase company productivity and profits. The scanning system uses
a barcode reader to read the barcodes on the goods. What it is actually doing is reading the numeric

BENEFITS OF THE BARCODING SYSTEM TO THE COMPANY Sales– based ordering: sales
information from the checkout is used to create the orders for stock replacement. Improved
productivity: there is no longer a need to price each item individually. Prices are provided on the
front of the shelves on which the items are displayed. Weighing and pricing at the checkouts
eliminates the need for separate price points. Improved customer service: new services such as
loyalty cards, multisaver, etc. mean that customers enjoy a better service. Reduced stock levels:
more efficient stock control means lower stock levels are needed, so less money is tied up in stock
and there is less likelihood of running out of certain items on the sales floor. Improved checkout
currency: it is no longer possible for the till operator to key in the wrong price, so there are fewer
errors and less fraud. Faster and more efficient throughput: there is, on average, a 15 per cent saving
in time to register the goods in a shopping trolley compared with the manual system. Promotional
and sales analysis: scanned data can be used to effectiveness of special promotions and can provide
information about the sales of certain goods. Reduced wastage: perishable goods such as fresh meat

Bank : Kiting And Money Laundering
Bank: Kiting & Money laundering Banks could become victim to kiting. Kiting can occur within a
bank because criminals will open multiple accounts within multiple organizations in order to
commit kiting, and bank employees are not aware the criminal has already opened multiple
accounts. Banks also fall victim, as they do not detect kiting taking place until it is too late and the
high dollar checks come back as insufficient funds. Banks are able to prevent kiting from occurring
by placing a hold on checks over a certain dollar amount. This will ensure the funds are legit and
valid. Banks are also able to watch for multiple check deposits and checks written with the same
dollar amount. In addition, banks can require a bank officer's approval on any drawings against
uncollected funds, overdrafts, or wire transfers, they also should perform daily reporting of all drafts
against uncollected funds. Kiting can be deterred, however banks must ensure they have the proper
internal controls in place to ensure they do not fall victim to kiting.
Banks are susceptible to money laundering within the organization. Banks are an easy target for
money laundering because criminals or drug cartel can pay off bank employees or personnel in order
to run their money through the bank. Criminals also have the ability to purchase a controlling
interest in a bank, especially those banks with weak controls. This allows the criminals to move
money through the bank without being questioned.

After completing two semesters at University of Dhaka, under the Master of Business
Administration Curriculum, Mohammad Maruf Islam, author of this report was placed in Export
Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited, Shimrail Branch, Shiddirgonj, Narayangonj by the Human

prepared for the internship program consisting of a major in depth study of the "General Banking

Hence it was little bit difficult for them to help within their high schedule. Time is an important
issue in report writing. As I have been given a specific dead Line for submission, observation and
learning all the banking operation within three month and also to prepare the report all along which
is really tough. Relevant data and document collection were difficult due to the organization
confidentiality. Non availability of data in a systematic way. Not enough data of year 2006 was
available as the bank's annual report of 2006 was not published at the time of preparing this report
Lack of fund – A study for any purpose requires a minimum amount to the investigator or the
researcher. But in this case the student had to pay for almost all expenses starting from stationary
transportation communication to the printing of the paper. Shortage of written material
In spite of all these limitations I have tried to put the best effort as far as possible.
1. Variables Covered
To complete this report I have followed a systematic study which include working, inspecting and
talking to the executives at different levels of the organization to know the present scenario of the
banking practice. Population: All the branches of EXIM Bank Limited in Bangladesh have been
taken into consideration as the population of this report. Sample: EXIM Bank limited; Shimrail

ONLINE BANKING
Online banking also known as internet banking, e–banking, or virtual banking, is an electronic
payment system that enables customers of a bank or other financial institution to conduct a range of
financial transactions through the financial institution 's website. The tools commonly used are
computers, smartphones and in a limited sense telephone.
It is faceless and borderless in that you do not see or interact with Bank staff as it is in the traditional
systems. The transaction can also be done anywhere and anytime without any restrictions. All you
need is either smartphone or a computer.
The good news is that almost all the popular banking products are also available online. You can pay
bills, view your account balances, and locate ATMs, transfer funds and even deposit cheques, all at
any time to your convenience. In short, it is fast, safe, flexible, convenient and secure.

Discussion of the Concept of a Cashless Society and the Assertion that We Will Become One
A cashless society is one of those things that is vastly becoming more popular and is beginning to
replace having to go into a shop for example and pay with money that you have stuffed into your
wallet. With the creation of bankcards paying is now much easier and a lot safer as you now just
swipe your care on special machines assigned to the card and it immediately credits the amount
from your bank it simple. However there has been much controversy over these cares whilst many
people believe the cash card system is less time consuming, easier to use, fits into your wallet can

You can rent movies for delivery to your home or apartment via Netflix. You can order whole meals
online for delivery to your home. The list stretches on, and most all of these services and
transactions can take place without
Physical currency ever exchanging hands. Despite all the pros, the rise of a cashless society does
have its cons †nevertheless; the future is portrayed by some experts as being as shiny as the
reflection off your MasterCard. In theory, a cashless society stretches back to the creation of the
traveler's check, a financial tool. TravelerÂ's checks are a safe and important factor in our life for
going on holiday. TravelerÂ's checks mean that money if lost can easily be replaced by attending a
local bank and getting them replaced all travelerÂ's checks are slips of paper which count as your
money most shops accept them and they are very affective. ItÂ's not too much of a leap to see
consumers swiping debit and credit cards by the hundreds every day at any number of local eateries,
including Subway, mc DonaldÂ's, the crispy cream chain and dozens more. Bank of America issued
the first bank–related credit card, BankAmerica (now known as Visa) in 1958 and by the early
Sixties; more companies were offering credit cards as timesaving devices rather than forms of credit.
Asking around I managed to find out that about 60 percent of people agree with the

Do you remember when you were a child you would play make believe or pretend. When you would
fly your toy plane in the air with your hand saying "This is your captain speaking," or when you
would play doctor with your brother or sister having to operate to save them from a scrapped knee.
One man actually fulfilled those childhood fantasies. He goes by numerous names, (Frank Connors,
Frank Adams, and Frank Williams); however, when he wasn't playing pretend he is known as Frank
Abagnale Jr. In the book "Catch Me if You Can: A True Story about a Real Fake" he reflects on the
days he worked as an Airline Pilot, Physician, college teacher, and even an Attorney. You may think
of him as a genius, and you would probably be correct, however he actually never went to college,
in fact he never graduated High School. To begin to understand who Frank Abagnale is we will start

the first true high security check called the SAFECheck. Over the next three years fraud dropped in
that bank by 95%. Says Safechecks.com. Visa later combined with SAFECheck, says

INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
History:
Banking in India has its origin as carry as the Vedic period. It is believed that the transition from

During the mogul period, the indigenous bankers played a very important role in lending money and

Electronic Cheques Are Electronic Copies Of A Regular...
Electronic cheques are electronic copies of a regular cheque. You are only able to pay with an
electronic cheque by sending an e–mail of it to pay for the item you want. Electronic cheques are
not the most common method of payment for customers as they are often sent to businesses and
companies although they are able to be sent from person to person through a site such as eBay.
Electronic cheques are also signed off digitally by the person/business receiving the cheque to
confirm the receiving of the cheque.
Electronic cheques allow users of e–commerce to pay with an electronic cheque, as an alternative
payment option rather than using a credit or debit card to purchase goods online. Electronic cheques
are more common in the US than in the UK, where credit and debit cards are used by the masses.
Electronic cheques give business, universities, private companies and personal online sellers the
ability to let their customer make an online payment by e–mailing their cheque to the
business/person so they have their payment for their product. E–commerce has allowed for this new
method of payment that has never been used previously by the public and now adds a new type of
convenient payment method for non–credit/debit card users and customers who prefer not to give
their bank details to PayPal or another online banking account.
Electronic cheques however have their negatives, such as the time in which it takes for the
transaction to take place. It can take up to a couple of days

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man Essay
Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man
When Daniel came to me and asked me to be his best man, it was a great honour but, when I looked
at all the duties required of me, I felt he'd be better off choosing someone else. Then he offered me a
fifty, but I told him that it wasn't a decision that money could change. So then he offered me a
hundred.
Anyway, good evening Ladies and Gentlemen – My name is Rob and it's my pleasure to be Daniel's
best man today.
So let me tell you about all those best man duties that originally concerned me, because I was
immediately stumped by the first one: 'ensure that the groom's face and hair are in order.' Well
Daniel, I have to say that if nature didn't get them in order the first time around, ... Show more

Now, I hope you also noticed that, as well as on time, the bridegroom arrived sober – another
achievement which shouldn't be underestimated. Because Daniel does enjoy a drink from time to
time, and at one point he even attempted to brew his own beer. Now most people would use berries,
fruits or flowers to produce alcohol. But Daniel was the first to try fermented goats milk. He
believed his beer would have nutritive value and while you may not find his brew on the off license
shelves, you will still find it bubbling away in Daniel's bedroom. I just hope he hasn't brought a
barrel of it along today in attempt to save a few quid.
Which reminds me, I was astonished to learn, that by tradition, I am supposed to bring a cheque
book or credit card to settle any payments the bridegroom may have forgotten. I wasn't too happy
about this, because everyone who has ever lent Daniel money has one thing in common ... nothing!
Kim, if ever you need the house to yourself or some time apart from Daniel, just lend him some
money – you won't see him for days.
The most enjoyable best man duty is of course arranging the stag weekend. And I'm delighted to say
that it passed without incident or disaster – or at least that's what I thought until the hotel returned
my deposit, minus a £50 cleaning fee for room 27 and a complimentary plastic mattress cover. There

My Goals For A New Employee
One of my goals during this externship was to officially train a new employee. I finally received this
opportunity on Monday February 2. We welcomed a new employee to The Courtyard last week and
I was in charge of training him Monday night during the 3–11 shift. He moved from California
where he worked at a Courtyard for a few years. Since it had been approximately a year since he left
the Courtyard in California I knew that he would be a little rusty at working FOSSE, our POS

types of rooms that we have at our property and to send him on errands when guests ask for items

asked him if he had any questions about how we do things at our hotel and how I could best help
him. He told me that since while he was very familiar with FOSSE there were still a few things that
he needed to refresh his memory on. He also asked me during slow times during our shift to go over
the different rooms that we have and the hours of operation for our bistro, fitness center, and bar. I
went over all of that information with him. Then he told me that he needed help with third party

Security Breach Of Banking Industry And Retail Business
Security Breach in Banking Industry and Retail Business
Financial technologies play a significant role in modern banking system. Most of us are familiar
with internet banking and mobile banking. These technologies allow us to access our accounts,
transfer funds, pay for our purchases, and even apply for a loan without leaving a house or an office.
In addition, most of us prefer to pay for our purchases with a quick swipe of a credit or a debit card.
No doubt, it is more convenient than caring and counting cash every time we go to a store. But,
unfortunately all these technologies come at a cost. Time to time, we hear news about another
security breach in the banking system or retail business, when customers' personal information is ...

"We have not heard of anything specific, but I can tell you that we, along with other banks,
periodically receive alerts from the payment networks about cards that may have been compromised
at a third–party location"( "Bank of America Alerts Customers of Security Breach." CBS St Louis).
In May of this year, several residents of Lawrence County in Missouri reported "that their
Commerce Bank debit cards had been compromised following a security breach over the weekend.
Carl Bradbury, director of consumer card product for Commerce Bank, said that about 1,500
customers in various states were affected by a "merchant's" security breach" (Doombos, Caitlin.

E Banking Revolution World Over Banks Essay
In this developing economy there are not many inventions that has changed the business of banking
,as much as e–banking .E–banking revolution world over banks are reorienting their business
strategies behaviour and thus bring about new possibilities..E–banking has enabled bank to scale
borders, change strategic behaviour and thus bring about new possibilities .E–banking is concerned
about the neo classical economic theories of market functioning .due to absolute transparency of
market , clients(both business as well as retail)can compare the services of various banks more
easily. for example ,on the internet the competitors are not at distance but they are only one click
away. if the clients are not happy with the products and services of the particular bank ,they are able
to change their banking partner much more easy than the physical or real clients relationship. From
the bank point of view use of internet has reduced the operational costs of the banking operation .As
discussed by Turner(2001),progress in information technology slashed the cost of processing
information ,while the internet has facilitated its transmission ,thus facilitating in the very essence of
the banking business. Around the world electronic banking services, whether delivered online or
through other mechanism have spread quickly in recent years.

Atm Machine
An automated teller machine or automatic teller machine (ATM), also known as an automated
banking machine (ABM) in Canada, and a Cashpoint (which is a trademark of Lloyds TSB), cash
machine or sometimes a hole in the wall in British English, is a computerised telecommunications
device that provides the clients of a financial institution with access to financial transactions in a
public space without the need for a cashier, human clerk or bank teller. ATMs are known by various
other names including ATM machine, automated banking machine, and various regional variants
derived from trademarks on ATM systems held by particular banks.

Gentile and Jack Wu Chang, underUS Patent # 3,833,885. On September 2, 1969, Chemical Bank
installed the first ATM in the U.S. at its branch in Rockville Centre, New York. The first ATMs were
designed to dispense a fixed amount of cash when a user inserted a specially coded card. A
Chemical Bank advertisement boasted "On Sept. 2 our bank will open at 9:00 and never close
again." Chemicals' ATM, initially known as a Docuteller was designed by Donald Wetzel and his
company Docutel. Chemical executives were initially hesitant about the electronic banking
transition given the high cost of the early machines. Additionally, executives were concerned that
customers would resist having machines handling their money. In 1995, the Smithsonian National
Museum of American History recognised Docutel and Wetzel as the inventors of the networked
ATM.
ATMs first came into use in December 1972 in the UK; the IBM 2984 was designed at the request
of Lloyds Bank. The 2984 CIT (Cash Issuing Terminal) was the first true Cashpoint, similar in
function to today's machines; Cashpoint is still a registered trademark of Lloyds TSB in the UK. All
were online and issued a variable amount which was immediately deducted from the account. A
small number of 2984s were supplied to a US bank. Notable historical models of ATMs include the
IBM 3624 and 473x series, Diebold 10xx and TABS 9000 series, NCR 1780 and earlier NCR 770
series.

The Film Catch Me If You Can Accurately Show Frank...
Does the film Catch Me If You Can accurately show Frank Abagnale Jr's crimes? I believe the
movie glamorized Frank's crimes and made them a little bit better than they actually were, of course
you can expect this from Hollywood. Frank Abagnale Jr. made a lot of mistakes as a teenager. He
was trying to make a life for himself out in the real world and be able to make money. Frank was
determined too, he could think of amazing ways to make a buck. Which eventually led him to
posing as a teacher, doctor, pilot on a commercial airline, CIA agent, and a lawyer. He also
committed many different kinds of crimes including cashing fake checks at hundreds of different
banks all across the world, printing fake checks, unlawfully obtaining private information and a
plethora of other felonies. The list goes on and on, but comparing the events that took place in Catch
Me If You Can to what actually happened in real life, the film made a numerous amount of mistakes
in that aspect. They shot scenes that didn't accurately show the details of his crimes but got the main
idea. They do this to make the movie a lot more appealing to the viewers. Which isn't a surprise, but
knowing the true facts about this con man's story is appealing enough. It is believed that Catch Me If
You Can, as a whole, changed Frank's story and the details about his crimes. There was a lot of
uninformative and inaccurate information that was displayed as Frank Abagnale's true story in the
movie, the film makers

Tension in Witch's Money Essay
Tension in Witch's Money
In John Collier's "Witch's Money," the stranger who suddenly appears in a remote mountain village
in Spain is initially seen by Foiral as an unwelcome madman. Certainly his surrealist description of
the landscape must seem a symptom of insanity to one unfamiliar with the trends of modern art.
Once he offers a nice sum of money to buy Foiral's house, however, the stranger is treated with a
new attitude. He is still not completely accepted by the community that he has moved into, but he
does wield a new type of power simply because only he can produce cash from paper billets. With
his magic cheques, though, the stranger creates a tension that grows into an economic struggle
between himself and his community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This knowledge of cheques that the stranger has over Foiral and the community increases the
tension between them. When Foiral finally receives his money from the cheque, he is under the
impression that all cheques give thirty thousand francs. Knowing that the stranger has a whole book
of cheques, Foiral and his friends immediately feel jealous of the outsider: he has something that
they want. A stranger –– a madman –– who has more than any member of the community, has
invaded their town. Because he has so much and they so little, the villagers feel that it is their right
to take the stranger's magic cheques . . . even if, in the process, they must take his life as well.
Ironically, tragically, their righteous ambition leads to their own destruction.
With the stranger dead, the people of the community help themselves to his cheques. Money begins
to exchange hands as goods are bought and deals are made. The progress of economic development
comes to the village. No one is afraid to dig up the money that they have saved because as soon as
the cheques are cashed there will be no worries, and the town can continue to "prosper." But as
every man meditates on their "two of these excellent billets," they begin to feel that "they were too
rich to speak to each other" (71, 72). Conflict grows between one–time friends as they argue over
what is to be bought and sold. Greed has come to town with the artist and his witch's money.

2.1 Background and overview of digital banking
According to BBA (2014), if Alvin Toffler, author of the renowned "Future Shock", was to have
examined the evolution of banking services in the last decade, even he would have fallen far short in
terms of his forecast of customer delight in the present era of online banking. When Toffler wrote
his bestseller there were no credit cards, direct debits or unsecured personal loans. The only way to
withdraw your money from the bank was to write cheques and spend time in long queues at the bank
branches.

Similarly, banking products such as insurance, property and financial investments, which till a
decade or so ago required cumbersome processes and paperwork are now conveniently possible
with a few clicks on your mobile phones. Cash withdrawals have shifted from the branches to the
popular cash machines (ATMs) with their ubiquitous presence all over the country and in most
places around the World. This has resulted in shutting down of several bank branches and
corresponding cost reduction. The remaining branches are being retooled for branding and
merchandising in high streets as well as meeting places for retail customers dealing with more
complex products such as financial investments and mortgages. Whereas footfalls at bank branches
started falling in the 1990s with the spread of ATMs this trend was further augmented with the
Phone Banking service introduced around the same time which allowed customers to talk to a bank
representative 24/7 all days of the year for a range of services. This service became popular for
speedy and convenient service delivery, however, over the last few years is reported to being seen in
a decline as new technologies are taking over.

1. What is the role of offline and online advertising in acquiring checking account customers for the

Building brand awareness, gaining trust, and improving consideration among potential bank
customers for opening new checking accounts is the role of offline and online advertising in
acquiring checking account customers. Another role that offline and online advertising plays in
acquiring checking account customers for the bank is by being a gateway for other lines of
businesses within the banks entity. As a way to maximize the global awareness of the BBVA brand,

There should be more allocation given to offline media. It is our belief that offline media should
emphasize how the bank is improving and must highlight messages about the ease of online banking
services, convenient branch locations, as well better checking and customer services. We do believe
though that the online presence, in not only banking, but in most things involving commerce, is
growing and that it is not a bad idea to think of ideas for budget increases concerning online banking
in the near future. But in strictly viewing the numbers given to us in the case that may not be a great
idea at the present time.
3. What is the effective acquisition cost and lifetime value of customers acquired through the online

The average annual retention rate of our customers acquired online is about 55% compared to a 65%
retention rate for those acquired through branches. Online customers have lower balances and end
up paying higher fees. The net annual income from online customers is therefore slightly higher than
that of branch customers. The acquisition cost and lifetime value are used to find the total amount of
value that is derived from a customer over the customer's complete lifetime with the business. Cost
acquisition is also known as the CAC. We will measure that lifetime simply as the total revenue

book they told me to read, I read – then waited for them to tell me which books I enjoyed"
(Rodriguez 625). Rodriguez allowed his teachers to tell him how to think; he became completely
submissive to their every belief. As Freire stated the teacher's task is, "to fill the students with the
contents of his narration – contents which are detached from reality, disconnected from the totality
that endangered them and could give them significance" (Freire 348). Instead of having his own
opinion, Rodriguez permitted his instructors the privilege of reasoning for him. Rodriguez became a
receptacle in every way possible. He basically left the fate of his education up to his teachers by
allowing them to dump information into his mind. However, unlike the banking concept, his
teachers did not dispose of knowledge in the form of narrated harangues. Instead, they used narrated
literature in place of diatribes. Rodriguez read important books such as The Scarlet Letter and Great
Expectations. "But I was not a good reader," Rodriguez claims, "merely bookish, I lacked a point of
view when I read. Rather, I read in order to acquire a point of view" (633). Rodriguez was a
container in a sense that he retained the ideas of the books he read, but Rodriguez did not have

The Assumption And Implication Of Good Faith
Introduction When one party receives a check and transfers it, is the transferee a holder in due
course? The response to this question is it depends on the facts and circumstances. The assumption
and implication of good faith plays a role in determining a holder in due course. In our case, one
party is attempting to take advantage of the other through fraud and deceit. This paper explores who
is a holder in due course, the influence of fraud and deceit, the role of the stop payment, and who is
responsible when a situation goes wrong. Material Facts John G. Talcott, Jr., is a ninety–three–year–
old Massachusetts resident, D.J. Rivera, a "financial advisor" to Talcott, and Salvatore Guarino, an
associate of Rivera. Rivera and Talcott ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He assumed that Rivera knew that he had stopped payment on the $10,000 check. Several years
earlier, Guarino established check–cashing privileges at Any Kind Checks Cashed, Inc. using their
required documentation. Guarino took possession of the $10,000 check on January 11 and took it to
Any Kind's Stuart, Florida to cash the check. Standard operating procedure at Any Kind requires
supervisor approval of any check over $2,000. After checking Guarino's driver's license and asking
the purpose of the check, supervisor Nancy Michael determined the check was valid. A Federal
Express envelope validated this decision, despite an inability to contact Talcott. After deducting a
five percent check–cashing fee, Guarino received a $9,500 check. Six days later, Guarino returned to
the same Any Kind location, presented a $5,700 check to the teller using similar proof, and required
supervisor approval again. The teller spoke to Michael regarding the check, and she instructed the
teller not to cash the check until she reached Talcott and received approval. Talcott approved the
$5,700 check, but Any Kind did not mention the $10,000 check from the previous day. Any Kind
cashed the second check after deducting a 3% fee. On January 19, Rivera called Talcott and told him
what transpired with Guarino. Talcott called his bank and stopped payment on the $5,700 check.
Talcott 's daughter called Any Kind and told it of the stop payment on the $5,700 check. I agree with

Has Airport Security Gone Too Far? Essay
Has Airport Security Gone Too Far?
In the wake of 9/11, the once "simple things in life" required not much thought at all now they have
been transformed into complicated procedures only brought about in a time of war. Traveling by air
has been a very rewarding experience for most but courtesy of terrorism, it has mutated into a list of
banned items, random luggage searches, and armed soldiers ominously toting M–16 rifles.
One must wonder if airport security, with the addition of machines that scan shoes for bombs and
random luggage searches, has gone too far. It is not necessary to check the orthopedic shoes of an
eighty–year old woman whereas it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frequent fliers who voluntarily give information about themselves and undergo a police background
check are granted these cards and are able to waive the intense security and head to their gates. A
trusted traveler's card would be a definite godsend to parents who fly with small children and don't
want to be bothered with the hassle of being told by a disgruntled airport employee to empty their
child's diaper bag, for fear that it may house a handgun or grenade.
With "The War On Terrorism" in full swing, Airport officials should take a look at the intense
footage shown on C–SPAN and CNN and decide that now more than ever it's time to work smarter,
not harder. What several call racial profiling, Airport Officials in other countries call being careful.
"Treating an elderly woman the same as a young Muslim male is the same as the Police looking for
a tall teenaged criminal, but randomly searching a short, middle–aged woman." says Bill Thompson
of an international Airport in London. For fear of being sued, Airports across the country refuse to
buckle down and simply use an alternative method of weeding out potential terrorists. Performing
background checks on non–American citizens who purchase tickets in cash and are from middle–
eastern countries could put many at ease. There is nothing wrong with asking someone who, what,
when, where, and why they are in America, but aren't a citizen. Racial profiling is wrong when

The Impact Of Hawala On The Middle East, North Africa,...

  • 1. The Impact Of Hawala On The Middle East, North Africa,... Hawala Hawala is a money transferring system that's used in places such as the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the idea is that a group of money brokers (Hawala dealers) rely solely on the honor system to transfer large amounts of money between two places, or people, without raising any red flags when it comes to law enforcement. As you can imagine, criminals have been able to take advantage of this system to escape traditional banking methods. Hawala is a method of transferring money without any actual movement of money to an intended destination. Hawala is subject to little or no paper and electronic trail because the system is solely based on the trust and honor of another human being and there is no traceable money from the ... To exchange banking transactions, each financial institution and bank must have a banking relationship by either being a bank or affiliating itself with one in order to enjoy the much sought– after business features. C.H.I.P.S C.H.I.P.S stands for Clearing House Interbank Payment System. It's a real–time multilevel payment system. CHIPS handle more than 95% of US dollar foreign exchange payments and are subject to paper and electronic trail due to the fact that the money can be traced. In one day, CHIPS settles 1.5 trillion dollars and currently CHIPS has a network of 50 Bank participants worldwide. Here is an example of the working process for CHIPS: Client A purchases goods from client B and client B requests for the payment. Therefore client A calls his bank and says "I need to pay 1 million dollars to client B", and he gives the bank 1 million dollars. Now, client A's bank has to transfer 1 million dollars to client B's bank. How does client A's bank transfer the money to client B's bank, you may ask? Well the answer is through CHIPS. CHIPS will open a CHIPS account for each participant (client A and client B) and the CHIPS account consists of a primary account and supplemental account. The primary account is a funding requirement for each participant and the supplemental account is the account for the payment. In this case referring to the example, client A's Bank will transfer the money into his CHIPS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Uniform Commercial Code Application The check is a negotiable instrument and is honored by the bank to which it is drawn and in some circumstances is endorsed by third party like discounting of bills of exchange. In this case, the issue is discussed that whether the third party, a check cashing store qualifies as a holder of check in due course and can collect the amount of check or not. Like bills of exchange, the checks is endorsed by the third party who takes a certain amount while as fee and pays the cash and get the check cleared from the bank at its own. This is happened in this case and briefly discussed and argued before the court where the court gave its particular judgment and declared one check as legitimate while the other was not.(Marson, 2011) Facts: A sale of investment of $ 75,000 was made by Rivera "financial advisor" to Talcott & his companion Guarino to an old person of Massachusetts resident a ninety three years old Talcott. No return was produced by the investment and Rivera, in a telephone call on January 10 2000, demanded Talcott to send a check for $ 10,000 against travel expenses to obtain a return on the investment and the check will have to be made out in the name of Guarino. Guarino has a privilege of check encashment with Any Kind Checks Cashed, Inc. and became its customer through his social security number and driver's license identification. Like other many large super markets, Tesco has concentrated on building large out– of– town stores with petrol stations, cafés and large car parks. Tesco was one of the first high– street stores to use a barcode reader, which is now called a laser scanner. BENEFITS OF THE BARCODING SYSTEM TO THE COMPANY Sales– based ordering: sales information from the checkout is used to create the orders for stock replacement. Improved productivity: there is no longer a need to price each item individually. Prices are provided on the front of the shelves on which the items are displayed. Weighing and pricing at the checkouts eliminates the need for separate price points. Improved customer service: new services such as loyalty cards, multisaver, etc. mean that customers enjoy a better service. Reduced stock levels: more efficient stock control means lower stock levels are needed, so less money is tied up in stock and there is less likelihood of running out of certain items on the sales floor. Improved checkout currency: it is no longer possible for the till operator to key in the wrong price, so there are fewer errors and less fraud. • 18. Bank : Kiting And Money Laundering Bank: Kiting & Money laundering Banks could become victim to kiting. Kiting can occur within a bank because criminals will open multiple accounts within multiple organizations in order to commit kiting, and bank employees are not aware the criminal has already opened multiple accounts. Banks also fall victim, as they do not detect kiting taking place until it is too late and the high dollar checks come back as insufficient funds. Banks are able to prevent kiting from occurring by placing a hold on checks over a certain dollar amount. This will ensure the funds are legit and valid. Banks are also able to watch for multiple check deposits and checks written with the same dollar amount. In addition, banks can require a bank officer's approval on any drawings against uncollected funds, overdrafts, or wire transfers, they also should perform daily reporting of all drafts against uncollected funds. Kiting can be deterred, however banks must ensure they have the proper internal controls in place to ensure they do not fall victim to kiting. Banks are susceptible to money laundering within the organization. Banks are an easy target for money laundering because criminals or drug cartel can pay off bank employees or personnel in order to run their money through the bank. Criminals also have the ability to purchase a controlling interest in a bank, especially those banks with weak controls. This allows the criminals to move money through the bank without being questioned. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discussion of the Concept of a Cashless Society and the Assertion that We Will Become One A cashless society is one of those things that is vastly becoming more popular and is beginning to replace having to go into a shop for example and pay with money that you have stuffed into your wallet. With the creation of bankcards paying is now much easier and a lot safer as you now just swipe your care on special machines assigned to the card and it immediately credits the amount from your bank it simple. Despite all the pros, the rise of a cashless society does have its cons †nevertheless; the future is portrayed by some experts as being as shiny as the reflection off your MasterCard. In theory, a cashless society stretches back to the creation of the traveler's check, a financial tool. TravelerÂ's checks are a safe and important factor in our life for going on holiday. TravelerÂ's checks mean that money if lost can easily be replaced by attending a local bank and getting them replaced all travelerÂ's checks are slips of paper which count as your money most shops accept them and they are very affective. ItÂ's not too much of a leap to see consumers swiping debit and credit cards by the hundreds every day at any number of local eateries, including Subway, mc DonaldÂ's, the crispy cream chain and dozens more. Bank of America issued the first bank–related credit card, BankAmerica (now known as Visa) in 1958 and by the early Sixties; more companies were offering credit cards as timesaving devices rather than forms of credit. When you would fly your toy plane in the air with your hand saying "This is your captain speaking," or when you would play doctor with your brother or sister having to operate to save them from a scrapped knee. One man actually fulfilled those childhood fantasies. He goes by numerous names, (Frank Connors, Frank Adams, and Frank Williams); however, when he wasn't playing pretend he is known as Frank Abagnale Jr. In the book "Catch Me if You Can: A True Story about a Real Fake" he reflects on the days he worked as an Airline Pilot, Physician, college teacher, and even an Attorney. You may think of him as a genius, and you would probably be correct, however he actually never went to college, in fact he never graduated High School. You are only able to pay with an electronic cheque by sending an e–mail of it to pay for the item you want. Electronic cheques are not the most common method of payment for customers as they are often sent to businesses and companies although they are able to be sent from person to person through a site such as eBay. Electronic cheques are also signed off digitally by the person/business receiving the cheque to confirm the receiving of the cheque. Electronic cheques allow users of e–commerce to pay with an electronic cheque, as an alternative payment option rather than using a credit or debit card to purchase goods online. Electronic cheques are more common in the US than in the UK, where credit and debit cards are used by the masses. Electronic cheques give business, universities, private companies and personal online sellers the ability to let their customer make an online payment by e–mailing their cheque to the business/person so they have their payment for their product. E–commerce has allowed for this new method of payment that has never been used previously by the public and now adds a new type of convenient payment method for non–credit/debit card users and customers who prefer not to give their bank details to PayPal or another online banking account. Because Daniel does enjoy a drink from time to time, and at one point he even attempted to brew his own beer. Now most people would use berries, fruits or flowers to produce alcohol. But Daniel was the first to try fermented goats milk. He believed his beer would have nutritive value and while you may not find his brew on the off license shelves, you will still find it bubbling away in Daniel's bedroom. I just hope he hasn't brought a barrel of it along today in attempt to save a few quid. Which reminds me, I was astonished to learn, that by tradition, I am supposed to bring a cheque book or credit card to settle any payments the bridegroom may have forgotten. I wasn't too happy about this, because everyone who has ever lent Daniel money has one thing in common ... nothing! Kim, if ever you need the house to yourself or some time apart from Daniel, just lend him some money – you won't see him for days. The most enjoyable best man duty is of course arranging the stag weekend. Gentile and Jack Wu Chang, underUS Patent # 3,833,885. On September 2, 1969, Chemical Bank installed the first ATM in the U.S. at its branch in Rockville Centre, New York. The first ATMs were designed to dispense a fixed amount of cash when a user inserted a specially coded card. A Chemical Bank advertisement boasted "On Sept. 2 our bank will open at 9:00 and never close again." Chemicals' ATM, initially known as a Docuteller was designed by Donald Wetzel and his company Docutel. Chemical executives were initially hesitant about the electronic banking transition given the high cost of the early machines. Additionally, executives were concerned that customers would resist having machines handling their money. In 1995, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History recognised Docutel and Wetzel as the inventors of the networked ATM. ATMs first came into use in December 1972 in the UK; the IBM 2984 was designed at the request of Lloyds Bank. The 2984 CIT (Cash Issuing Terminal) was the first true Cashpoint, similar in function to today's machines; Cashpoint is still a registered trademark of Lloyds TSB in the UK. All were online and issued a variable amount which was immediately deducted from the account. A small number of 2984s were supplied to a US bank. I believe the movie glamorized Frank's crimes and made them a little bit better than they actually were, of course you can expect this from Hollywood. Frank Abagnale Jr. made a lot of mistakes as a teenager. He was trying to make a life for himself out in the real world and be able to make money. Frank was determined too, he could think of amazing ways to make a buck. Which eventually led him to posing as a teacher, doctor, pilot on a commercial airline, CIA agent, and a lawyer. He also committed many different kinds of crimes including cashing fake checks at hundreds of different banks all across the world, printing fake checks, unlawfully obtaining private information and a plethora of other felonies. The list goes on and on, but comparing the events that took place in Catch Me If You Can to what actually happened in real life, the film made a numerous amount of mistakes in that aspect. They shot scenes that didn't accurately show the details of his crimes but got the main idea. They do this to make the movie a lot more appealing to the viewers. Which isn't a surprise, but knowing the true facts about this con man's story is appealing enough. It is believed that Catch Me If You Can, as a whole, changed Frank's story and the details about his crimes. Tension in Witch's Money Essay Tension in Witch's Money In John Collier's "Witch's Money," the stranger who suddenly appears in a remote mountain village in Spain is initially seen by Foiral as an unwelcome madman. Certainly his surrealist description of the landscape must seem a symptom of insanity to one unfamiliar with the trends of modern art. Once he offers a nice sum of money to buy Foiral's house, however, the stranger is treated with a new attitude. He is still not completely accepted by the community that he has moved into, but he does wield a new type of power simply because only he can produce cash from paper billets. With his magic cheques, though, the stranger creates a tension that grows into an economic struggle between himself and his community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This knowledge of cheques that the stranger has over Foiral and the community increases the tension between them. When Foiral finally receives his money from the cheque, he is under the impression that all cheques give thirty thousand francs. Knowing that the stranger has a whole book of cheques, Foiral and his friends immediately feel jealous of the outsider: he has something that they want. A stranger –– a madman –– who has more than any member of the community, has invaded their town. Because he has so much and they so little, the villagers feel that it is their right to take the stranger's magic cheques . . . even if, in the process, they must take his life as well. Ironically, tragically, their righteous ambition leads to their own destruction. With the stranger dead, the people of the community help themselves to his cheques. Money begins to exchange hands as goods are bought and deals are made. The progress of economic development comes to the village. No one is afraid to dig up the money that they have saved because as soon as the cheques are cashed there will be no worries, and the town can continue to "prosper." But as every man meditates on their "two of these excellent billets," they begin to feel that "they were too rich to speak to each other" (71, 72). Conflict grows between one–time friends as they argue over what is to be bought and sold. Greed has come to town with the artist and his witch's money. Only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Toffler wrote his bestseller there were no credit cards, direct debits or unsecured personal loans. Cash withdrawals have shifted from the branches to the popular cash machines (ATMs) with their ubiquitous presence all over the country and in most places around the World. This has resulted in shutting down of several bank branches and corresponding cost reduction. The remaining branches are being retooled for branding and merchandising in high streets as well as meeting places for retail customers dealing with more complex products such as financial investments and mortgages. Whereas footfalls at bank branches started falling in the 1990s with the spread of ATMs this trend was further augmented with the Phone Banking service introduced around the same time which allowed customers to talk to a bank representative 24/7 all days of the year for a range of services. Rodriguez allowed his teachers to tell him how to think; he became completely submissive to their every belief. As Freire stated the teacher's task is, "to fill the students with the contents of his narration – contents which are detached from reality, disconnected from the totality that endangered them and could give them significance" (Freire 348). Instead of having his own opinion, Rodriguez permitted his instructors the privilege of reasoning for him. Rodriguez became a receptacle in every way possible. He basically left the fate of his education up to his teachers by allowing them to dump information into his mind. However, unlike the banking concept, his teachers did not dispose of knowledge in the form of narrated harangues. Instead, they used narrated literature in place of diatribes. Rodriguez read important books such as The Scarlet Letter and Great Expectations. "But I was not a good reader," Rodriguez claims, "merely bookish, I lacked a point of view when I read.
