Editing/Sound/Camera Techniques:
Pan on the man that’s asleep on his bed, to show his surrounding as if
his bedroom was an establishing shot but they forgot to include on for
this scene.
Dark lighting around the room which shows us the time that all these
event starts and the low lighting also gives us the impression something
frightening will happen. Low levels of light are been shot at the main
characters face as if the light is escaping from the window to his face.
This light allows us to see his face during the close ups on him.
Close ups on a turned off lamp and clock which shows the audience that
how late and dark these events are going to start.
Pan to the right from the guy in bed asleep to the TV which starts these
mysterious events.
Mid shot-to-close up on TV when the loud ominous static sounds starts
to come from the TV. Digetic sounds on the static which shows the level
of annoyance that sound would be to hear to mid-night.
Handheld camera movement on the guy when he wakes up to show how
he’s very uneasy when waking up at this time of night.
Digetic sounds from the main characters voice which allows him to
interact with the audience when he says “Damn Technical glitch”
2. Very loud static sounds come from the TV when the main character
leaves his room, and this causes him to lose his balance and drop to the
ground in the hallway.
Very slow cutting rate when he is leaving his room to show how he’s
taking his time walking around his house because he’s very cautious
now.
Drops his glass of milk on the floor after saying the phrase “Well, it
always worked when I was a kid”.
Non-Digetic sounds play when he drops the cup, and these sounds are
the static from the TV you can’t see in this scene and some background
soundtrack to emphasis this ominous feeling.
After the cutting rate speeds up when he leaves his house to his mate’s
house for protection.
A pan is used when he runs across the street to show his movement and
fear he has towards his own house.
Long shot when he runs towards his friends house in the dark.
Over shoulder shot when his friend and him are talking and when the
main character asks to stay over for the night.
Mid-shot when he turns on his friends TV to check if the mysterious
static noise was coming from his house too.
Panning is used between the main character and his friend when the TV
is turned off.
His friend used the remote (pro) to turn off the TV and explains how
everyone is sleeping.
Main character goes sleep eventually in his friend’s dark room.
The main character wakes up and makes tea while listening to the TV
and a mid-shot is used to show all off this.
Close up on TV when the news is on to show the audience that a mass
murderer is on the loose.
His friend leaves and while he’s talking to the main character a shot
reverse shot is used alongside a couple over shoulder shots.
Close up on news reporter which is wearing nice clean and smart
clothing (a suit) to show his professionalism.
3. A tilt is used to show the whole body of the murderer that was shown on
the TV. This tilt was used to make sure the audience recognised it was
the murderer and to show how dangerous his tall body is.
An establishing shot is used when the murderer leaves the car to show
that he’s in front of the same house the main character is.
Ominous Non-Digetic sounds are played when the murder walks down
the road.
Overall slow cutting rate at the end of this short story and barely any
editing techniques.
