1. Short Story Cast Studey1
This short story was written and directed by Casey Donahue on a YouTube
channel called SoulPancake. The genre of this short story is humour but its
serious humour about coffee but this video is a huge metaphor about soul
searching. This video is very inspirational because it can inspire people to do
some soul searching of their own. For example: plans for the future or goals
you want. This video is called “A Short Story About Coffee”. The only criticism I
have about this video is the ending where they try to advertise their own
YouTube channel by telling their viewers to subscribe, and the beginning were
the various amount of Casey (the main character) girlfriends are placed in
different places. Each time another girlfriend shouts saying “what do you
want!” they move slightly.
Techniques used in short film:
Full body shot of Casey and the various girl friends
Right after the next girlfriend is introduced a mid-shot is used to focus
on them right after the long shot so that you can see their body
language when they talk directly at Casey.
A long shot of the world (can see the whole of America).
Long shot of Casey’s house.
Long shot of Coffee Shop.
Mid-shot at Casey and then gets zoomed in to a close up at his facial
expression. A close up at the coffee Casey wants gets zoomed in to an
extreme close up to emphasise the importance of this prop. This prop
(the coffee) symbolises Casey’s goal in life and when he gets his coffee
he finished his soul searching.

Shot reverse shot at two the men at coffee store. (Casey and coffee

Touch screen pad used to order iced cold coffee.
Fast cutting rate but it eventual slows down at the end of the video.
Extreme close up at the man’s hand when he give Casey his coffee.

2. Handheld camera movement when john coffee (coffee shop man) walks
away for some of his own soul searching to show it’s going to be very
long and hard.
Tilt when john coffee throws his coffee apron away.
Mid-shot on Casey’s holding coffee and this shows us the end of his soul
searching.
