5. Club Cutting
Sometimes referred as
blunt cutting and often
used when cutting the
sides and top of the hair.
The section is held out
from the head and cut
off at the tips.
6. Scissors & Clipper Over Comb
Using the comb as a
guide for cutting in
areas where the hair is
too short for a finger
guide as in the nape
area and around the
ears.
7. Graduation
Using the length of the
outside line as a guide,
the hair is held away
form the head cutting
away the bulk from the
outside line.
8. Thinning
With scissors or razor
the hair can be thinned
to either, increase
volume at the root by
reducing the weight or to
soften the features of
the style
9. Freehand
The stylist uses his/her
scissors to cut the hair
without holding it in the
other hand's fingers or
using any other tool to
hold the hair in place.
12. Carve and Slice
Hairstylist assesses each
curl and carves out the
haircut piece-by-piece
rather than just taking
length off from the
bottom, which in turn
could lead to a stacked
pyramid effect.
14. Twist Cutting
is a great way for a stylist
to do an angled haircut,
such as for bangs.
a stylist will gather a
section of the hair that she
will twist then cut.
17. V shape
The “V” is heavily
layered to create a
V-shaped point at
the ends
18. U Shape
“U” is largely
rounded on the
sides to the ends.
19. C Shape
the length ranges from
below the chin to below
the shoulder. The hair is
styled straight and
smooth, but with softness
and subtly curving lines to
frame the face.
