Industrial Hemp is an ancient crop, which has a multitude of diverse uses. The earliest uses of Hemp
can be traced back to the Sumerians and probably even earlier in man's unrecorded history.
Industrial Hemp is not Marijuana though the two plants are of the same family and have passing
resemblance to one another. Industrial Hemp's myriad uses are being rediscovered and at the
forefront of research in diverse fields. I will be attempting to dispel some of the myth, and providing

It is evident that farmers and policy makers finally recognize that hemp can restore the agricultural
economy and have a key role in dealing with climate change. The American farmers have been
watching the Canadian farmers making huge profits from hemp. In 2013, Canadian farmers were

The U.S. government, in all its wisdom, treats hemp and marijuana in the same manner. Despite one
offering no psychoactive effects (hemp) and the other offering psychoactive effects (marijuana),
both are against the law. Several states have passed laws to allow the growing of hemp; however the
federal government has stood firm on the ban for decades, and continues to do so. The time has
come for the feds to update obsolete polices and get a dose of reality; it's time to legalize industrial
hemp.
Did you know Industrial hemp has been grown on American soil since the beginning of this great
nation? Did you also know that it's only been illegal for over 70 years now? So why now is this
amazing resourceful plant illegal? That's one question that still needs to be answered. In this
proposal I will introduce and explain why industrial hemp needs to be made legal to manufacture
and cultivate in the United States of America.
This plant has huge potential and a growing market in the United States. What makes hemp so

Marijuana has been vilified in America over the past 70+ years. Despite it's many practical uses,
medicinal and industrial, our Federal government insists on maintaining the status quo that the
growth, possession and use of marijuana is criminal despite the evidence that the legalization of
marijuana would have a positive influence on America. In this paper I will discuss the history of
marijuana, the industrial uses of hemp, the prohibition of marijuana, the economical impact
prohibition has on America, the effects of marijuana use on the mind and the body, marijuana for
medical use, and how legalization of marijuana would have a positive influence on America.
Although I support the legalization of marijuana I do not support the legalization of other Schedule I

THE LONG HISTORY OF MARIJUANA: Marijuana, as most people commonly know it, is really
a plant called hemp, or "cannabis sativa." There are other plants called hemp, but cannabis hemp is
the most useful of these plants. "Hemp" is any durable plant used since prehistory for many
purposes, and cannabis is the most durable of the hemp plants. The cannabis plant also produces
three very important products that other plants do not (in usable form): seed, pulp, and medicine.

amound of water while producing 2.5 times more fiber than cotton. Cotton uses 25 percent of the
world's insecticides and 10 percent of the world's pesticides. Hemp clothing is more durable, and
when wet, the materials expand and become stronger. *Hemp also requires little to no pesticides.
!!Replacing al or much of the world's cotton crops with hemp would result in using 5 times less
water to get the same yield. Replacing cotton with hemp would also remove almost 25 percent
global insecticide use

Hemp has many ways it can put oxygen back into the air. One of the best ways it can give us cleaner
air, other than through the automotive industry, is by replacing wood made paper with paper made
from hemp. According to George Antonio from Drexel University, "until the 1880's between 75%
and 90% of paper was made with hemp fiber." Many major documents such as the first draft of the
Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and even Benjamin Franklin's newspapers were
made from hemp paper. They utilized hemp for many reasons, and one of those was to save us from
deforestation, which is becoming a big problem for endangered species and the state of our air.

much significance since hemp is easily renewable. Another significant difference between hemp and
wood is the cellulose. Almost any other plant with a strong stalk is better suited for making paper,

30%. This may seem like a simple difference in percentages, but this actually brings about many

Although this was known for thousands of years, in the 1930's the American people were frightened
into thinking that hemp was an evil plant that must be eradicated. In 1937 the Marijuana Tax Act
was passed by the United States Congress. This act was written by Harry Anslinger and was
