2. Mrs Lent or
Lady Sarakosti
• In orthodox Church it is a tradition
to keep Lent, that is to fast for more
than 40 days in order to celebrate
Easter. It is a period of 7 weeks.
• To fast means to eat vegetables,
fruits, nuts, legumes instead of
meat, milk and eggs.
3. Lady Sarakosti
• In the beginning of Lent, our
grandparents used to make
something like a doll from flour
and water (a kind of dough).
They said that it was Mrs Lent
4. Lady Sarakosti
• Mrs Lent used to pray, that’s why she had a cross
on her head.
• She didn’t have a mouth because she didn’t eat!
Actually, she ate but only a little!
5. Lady Sarakosti
• She had 7 feet, one for each
week of this long period until
Easter
• Every week that passed, they cut
off a foot. So, that was a kind of
calendar!
6. Lady Sarakosti
• Every year we used to
make the Lady Sarakosti to
our classes.
