5. Two of the “bead ladies” that make beautiful things by
hand, which are sold here in the US to provide them
some income. Most of these women were displaced
because of the Uganda civil war and, even though it is
over, are not able to return home.
13. Many women walk 4-6 miles each
day to get one of these cans filled
with water. The can, called a Jerry
Can, weighs 50 lbs when filled.
Often she carries it home on her
head while also carrying her baby.
14. We also visited two
different places were
water wells had just
been installed. This
has greatly reduced
distance of the daily
walk to get water.
26. At many places we visited we were given chickens,
termites or fruit – very gracious gifts from parents
whose children are sponsored through EWT to go to
school
