2. Forward bloc
● Subhash chandra bose felt there was an urgent need for an organised left wing party in the
congress
● After resigning from the presidentship of the congress in 1939, he laid the foundation for a new
party within the congress, to bring the entire left wing under one banner.
● This party was known as the forward bloc and was formed on 3 May 1939.
3. Objectives of the Forward bloc
● The forward bloc immediate objective was liberation of india with the support of workers,
peasants and youth.
● After attaining independence the forward bloc would work for the establishment of a socialist
state by doing the following
○ Abolition of the zamindari system.
○ Introduction of a new monetary and credit system.
○ Reorganisation of agricultural industry on socialist lines.
4. Contributions of subhash chandra bose
● Subhash chandra bose was instrumental to the formation of the forward bloc movement
● Bose managed to evade the british indian authorities and take the freedom struggle outside the
country
● The active phase of the INA began when Bose arrived at singapore in July 1943. 2 days later he
officially took charge of the Indian Independence league.
● In august 1943 he took charge of the Indian National Army and took the position of supreme
commander.
● A woman’s regiment called the Rani Jhansi regiment was led by Dr.Laxmi Swaminathan.
5. Objectives of subhash chandra bose
● To organize an armed revolution and to fight the british army with modern arms
● Total mobilisation of Indian man-power and money for a total war
● The motto of the INA was ‘utility, faith, sacrifice’
● To organise a provisional government of Free India In order to mobilise all the forces effectively
