Assure Method Assignment
Teaching the States of Matter:
2nd grade special ed class
10 girls and 7 boys
70% White, 20% African American, 10% Latino
6 have ADHD
A: Slow learning, cannot stay focused long, different cultures, different genders
S: Students will learn the states of matter by watching a video, making a robot to show the states
of matter, participate in a drawing activity and by following the Webquest that is given.
S: Students will use a computer and projector, YouTube, robotics, drawing activity and
Webquest.
U: Will make sure the videos is appropriate for the class, make sure the computer and projector
is working, gather all of the materials for robotics and drawing activity and make sure the
Webquest is complete and ready to follow.
R: Students will be able to explain in detail the states of matter and the process they undergo to
change to a different state
E: Students will answer a few questions at the end of the assignment and draw and label each
state of matter and stages with an example for understanding.
In order for the students to learn all about the states of matter, they will watch a video as an
introduction. They will then use a robot showing the three states of matter, then start the drawing
activity. They will follow the step by step directions to complete the Webquest and will be
evaluated by answering a few questions and by showing and explaining to the class there
drawing activity. At the end of one week, there will be a 98% accuracy on knowing examples of
the states of matter along with the stage changes.
