When it comes to organizations, change is constantly occuring. Managers are accountable for
preparing the business, in addition to helping the employees cope with the change. The purpose of
this paper is to highlight an organization and to diagnose the need for change and present a plan to
transform the company, using Kotter 's 8–Step Approach. The following topics will be covered in
this paper, company overview, diagnosis, Kotter 's 8–Step Approach, and Conclusion.
Company Overview The company researched for the purpose of this paper is McDonald 's. This
company 's history dates back since 1940 when Mac and Dick McDonald initially opened
McDonald 's BBQ restaurant located in San Bernardino, CA. In 1948 they shut down the restaurant,
just to reopen it as a self–service drive–in restaurant. According to About McDonald's (2012), their
menu included only 9 items, such as: milk, coffee, soft drinks, cheeseburger, hamburger, potato
chips, and a slice of pie. Potato chips were then replaced by French fries. The history of this
company is significantly market by Ray Kroc, who in 1954 at a visit to McDonald 's in San
Bernardino decides to have a franchise of McDonald 's. A year later, in 1955, he opens his first
restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois. The franchising plan allowed growth and by 1965 there were
more than 700 restaurants across United States. McDonald 's

Introduction
The organisation we are going to look in this assignment is McDonalds. McDonald's is the leading
global foodservice outlet with more than 33,500 local restaurants serving approximately 69 million
people in 119 countries each day. More than 80% of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned
and operated by independent local men and women.
http://www.aboutmcdonalds.com/mcd/investors/company_profile.html McDonalds has developed
its operation to a very high level of efficiency over years it has been operation. One main reason is
that McDonalds keeps innovating its current process design, flows, data capture, and interactions
between sections, resource allocation, process technologies and its supply chain.

In order to produce one hamburger, 4 staff will be required based on a McDonalds kitchen layout,
where each staff will perform a particular task in making the burger as mentioned below.
If we look at the production of a Hamburger based from the above diagram, its production would
starts at point 1 which is the Toaster, where the buns are toasted for 35 seconds by one person
working only at the toaster. During quite time they may perform two or more tasks, but at busy
period, they would perform one task.
After the buns have been toasted, it goes to the next level of production which is point 2 at the
Dressing Table where a second person would dressed the toasted buns from the condiments already
stocked up on the dressing table which would take 45 seconds.
At the same time the dressing starts, the person at the grill at point 3 place the frozen burger patty on
the grill which is automatically set for 45 seconds.
By the time the meat is ready after the 45 seconds on the grill, the dressing would be finished as
well. Then the dressed toasted buns is moved from point 2 to point 3, that's mean from the dressing
table to the side of the grill where the cooked meat patty will be placed on the dressed buns.
The Hamburger will then be moved to point 4 which is the production display cabinet, where the
person working at the production control

USE was expanded to include field consultants and market managers and today it gives franchisees,
store managers and employees a chance to see and taste new products for upcoming seasons that are
intended to address the changing preferences of customers. The merchandising plan for seasonal and
high–potential new products is also shared. The centerpiece of the USE is the virtual 7–Eleven store,
actual size 7–Eleven floor plans are built to show how seasonal products are assimilated into the
standard store mix (7–Eleven About Us, 2010). For future reference, this capability should be the
tool whereby the adjustments necessary to accommodate a drive thru capability are visualized and
ultimately realized.
For perspective, as of January 2010, 7–Eleven, Inc. had earned the No. 3 spot on Entrepreneur
magazine annual Franchise 500, which ranks top franchise opportunities in the U.S. An obviously
healthy organization, this is 7–Eleven's 17th year to break into the top 10 (7–Eleven Inc, 2010).
Problem Statement
A major element of 7–11's success is its focus on convenience. By staying open 24 hours a day and
offering quick and easy pre–made food items, customers are able to make a speedy stop at the store
at any point during the day. 7–11 continues to add to its selection of food items to better compete

Mcdonald 's A Fast Food Hamburger Chain
("McDonald's Wordmark") ("McDonald's Prix") ("Nos Menus") By: Austin Gardner 2–1 January 28,
2015 Ms. Chalmers Introduction McDonald's is a multinational fast–food hamburger chain. The
company was founded in 1940 by two brothers named Maurice and Richard McDonald
("McDonald's"). McDonald's currently has over 35,000 restaurants and serve over 68 million
customers a day on average ("History of"). The fast–food giant makes 28 billion dollars annually,
and are the largest fast–food chain in the world ("McDonald's"). That calculates to 75 million dollars
a day, which is unreal. This paper will examine the working conditions of the employees.
("McDonald's Across the World") History In 1937 Richard and Maurice's father decided to open a
food stand as a hobby ("History of"). Orange juice and hamburgers were sold below market price
("History of") In fact, burgers were originally sold for only 15 cents (Gilbert, 8). After three years,
the two brothers realized that their father's business was actually very profitable. Richard and
Maurice decided to lease a building and open up a drive–in restaurant, to make larger production
possible; they named it "McDonald's Bar–B–Q" and the soon to be fast–food giant had begun
("History of"). The restaurant the brothers opened was a drive–in, and was an instant hit. In 1948,
the McDonald brothers decided that it was time to open a sit–down restaurant in which their main
priority was efficiency ("History

I was clearly annoyed, the kid say, "You guys are doing this again?" I don't mean to imply that there
is hot, fresh food waiting for my husband and children at six o'clock every day. Yet I recognize that
we regularly enjoy what many other families is unable to do, break bread together at an evening
meal. It used to be that families sat down to eat dinner together most nights, but the bustling nature
of contemporary life, including parents' work schedules, children's extracurricular activities and the
ease of fast food, make the practice less common. One factor that keep families from dining together

Fast food sabotages family dinners. The multitude, convenience, and affordability of fast–food
restaurants encourages many families to eat on the run in the car, rather than having unhurried time
together at the dinner table. Even mothers or fathers with the best intentions of cooking at home and
eating with their children can find it hard to resist a drive–through window that makes dinner quick
and easy. According to an article in Restaurant Quarterly, residents in medium–sized cities drives
past an average of seven fast–food establishments on their way home from work. For a tired parent,
passing a bag or box over the back seat to hungry, impatient children is a seductive option when
compared to the cooking and dishwashing waiting at home. The gulping of burgers and sodas
quickly consumed in cars have begun to replace the simple, slow joy of eating, talking, and relating

The Outsiders : The Outsiders And Greasers
1. The Greasers and the Socs are alike because they both go to Drive–Ins, both fight, and both gangs
carry switchblades. They are different because the Socs have more money, nicer cars and clothes,
and they also jump people such as the Greasers.
2. On the way home from the movies, Ponyboy was chased by the Socs in a red Corvair. He was
then jumped, beat up, and cut by them. One of the Socs said, "Need a haircut Greaser?" in a taunting
voice. This happened because he didn't use his head and ask one of the other Greasers to give him a
ride home. He also didn't carry his switchblade so he wasn't able to try to defend himself.
3. The other Greasers asked if Ponyboy was ok, and when he was shaking his brother, Sodapop, said
that it's over, and there's nothing to be scared about. His older brother, Darry, said that he didn't use
his head and he was disappointed.
4. According to Sodapop, Darry got mad at Ponyboy because he said that he doesn't have common
sense. Darry also gets mad at him because Ponyboy is Darry's responsibility because if any of his
brothers gets in trouble they can't live together, and they will have to be in foster homes. Darry also
has a lot of worries about Ponyboy because he wants the best for him and he wants him to stay in
school and stay out of trouble.
5. Ponyboy and his brothers are different from the other Greasers because they live together and
have each other at home. They also didn't steal like the others. Also, they didn't hurt anyone or use

Mcdonald 's Successful Fast Food Chain
McDonald's was founded in 1948 after Dick and Mac McDonald shut down the Bar–B–Que
restaurant. Three months after shutting it down in December it reopens as a self–service drive in
restaurant known as McDonald's. In 1961 Ray Kroc purchases the interests of the McDonald
brothers along with the rights to the McDonald's name for $2.7 million. McDonald's had continued
to grow from a small restaurant in California into the world's most recognized fast food chain.
McDonald's operates in over 119 countries with more than 30,000 restaurants. For right around 60
years, McDonald's has defined the fast food industry while etching its golden arch logos, Ronald
McDonalds, and the big mac sandwich. Millions of people have worked at McDonald's as their very
first job. McDonald's introduced us to concepts like drive–thru window and the Happy Meal for kids
allowing them to provide fast, affordable, dining while on the go.
As you can see McDonald's brand is the most well–known internationally fast food chain. It's
"Golden Arches" are understood in almost any language. It has the fast food marked cornered,
offering an increasing variety of food and beverages. They market to people of all ages that they can

Drive Throughs Persuasive Speech
Drive throughs are a leading cause in air problems such as air pollution. The big debate now–a–days
is whether drive throughs being ban or not being ban. Drive throughs are leading causes for horrible
air quality, waste a lot of gas in the world, and the also cause obesity. On the hand other they are
good on the marketing side of things for business. Although drive throughs are very useful it also
causes some of the biggest problems in the world and atmosphere. Frist of all, drive throughs can
lead to a waste of a lot of gas. According to Trapped in the Drive–Through and Wasting Gas, "In
2007, a California state science fair student estimated that vehicles idling at California's 8,500
drive–through businesses consumed 32 million gallons of gas." This shows instead of wasting your
gas on meaningful cause we chose to waste it on drive throughs. Also, it states "Just 10 minutes of
idling at the drive–thru window per day adds up to an average of 22 gallons of gasoline a year – at
current pump prices. That's $80 a year on wasted gas." This shows that instead of wasting gas by
driving ten minutes on the interstate people decide to sit in drive throughs and basically throw
money out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that kids who eat fast food more than others are most likely to have obesity than ones who don't.
Also, according to medical daily, " Kids that grow up in places where fast food is readily accessible
and are more likely obese. " As a result of kids living near fast food places there is a higher chance
of them becoming obese than ones who are not living near a restaurant. In conclusion, unless you

Fast Food Franchising Company And Corporation
McDonald's is a very well–known fast food franchising company and corporation. The company
was first established in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. Surprisingly the
restaurant was not named "McDonalds" from the beginning, it was actually named "McDonald's
Bar–B–Q" and it held many menu items, but mostly barbecue. After eight years of selling their
menu, the brothers noticed hamburgers were their bestselling item. It was at that time, in 1948, that
the McDonald brothers closed down their small car hop to open a burger stand with a streamlined
system. They renamed their burger stand "McDonalds" and that became the start of its journey to
become the biggest global fast food chain. In 1955, a man by the name of Ray Kroc ... Show more

In 1967, McDonald's opened the first international franchise and by 1992 had restaurants on six
continents (James p.2).
As of 2014, McDonald's has over 30,000 restaurants globally and they employ over 1 million
people. McDonald's corporate office and global headquarters is located in Oak Brook, Illinois. The
company has taken the title of the world's largest fast food chain and has the profits that show it. In
2012 alone the fast food industry had total revenue of 190.1 billion dollars. In the same year
McDonald's had total revenue of 35,600 million, which is over twice as much as the second most
profitable company, subway, which had total revenue of 12,100 million. The reason the company
make so much more profit than other chains lies in their business model and the company's
involvement in real estate. In order to understand the company's involvement in real estate, one must
go back to the company's beginnings. In 1956 Ray Kroc was having a hard time making his
franchised restaurants profitable, he was not able to acquire the funds to pay both the building of the
restaurant and to pay for the land the restaurants would be built on. It was only after Harry J
Sonneborn was hired and approached to Kroc with an idea to bring McDonald's into the real estate
business. Soon after, the Franchise Realty Corporation was established. The purpose was not only to

Abstract
All companies have a system of operations, where everything has its order and everything is in
place. If it weren't for operating systems, everything would be chaos, and no one would know what
their tasks are. Can you imagine a company that basically lets you do whatever, where there were no
rules, no accountability? Some people think that's crazy, but there are other that think that the right
idea.
The comparison between three companies and their tasks can be quite intriguing. I have chosen to
compare three similar fast food chain companies. The ones that I have chosen are Wendy's, Burger
King, and McDonalds. All three are a dine–in, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McDonalds has the three step drive thru process, where you order your food, thru a loud speaker,
then go to window 1 to pay your order, and then go to window 2 to pick up your order. This gives
them an edge because it gives the customer a perception that they are getting their food faster. They
do not have to wait to pay for the food and then the clerk to prepare it. While Burger King and
Wendy's do not have this process and seems that it takes a little longer to get your order from these
competitors. In conclusion, these three companies are similar in many ways, but in many ways
totally different. The way that they operate are similar, the operation and managing of employees are
not. Even though they are similar brands and offer similar product, the reason why they are still in
business is because there is always room for a competitor, and if that competitor finds a niche that
gives them a log up above the rest, then they should profit off of that.

Sonic Case Study
Executive Summary
Beginning with one restaurant, Sonic has become the largest drive–in chain in the United States.
While they are smaller than their competitors, they are still leading in sales growth, customer loyalty
and customer satisfaction. Sonic restaurants saturate the southern U.S. This gives them the
opportunity to expand to other area. However, Sonic is reluctant due to the colder climates and their
basis as a drive–in restaurant. Sonic should look at adding or combining capabilities to it 's
restaurants to increase competitiveness and make it easier for them to expand into other areas
without limiting themselves.

growth last years was because of expansion. Franchisees opened 167 new drive–ins with partner

Sonic is using financing for expansion. They are currently using $14.1 million of a $125 million line

Mcdonald's Pest Analysis
The foundation of McDonald's, a well–known brand name in fast food industry, dates back to 1940
when the McDonald brothers, Dick and Mac, opened a drive–in restaurant in San Bernardino,
California. They came up with an idea of using an assembly line process to serve more customers in
the same amount of time. In 1948, that idea turned out to be a success as the potato chips were

Fast Food, As We Know It
Charles Benck
Fast food, as we know it, exists because of changes leading up to, during, and slightly after World
War Two. With the war 's pressure on efficiency and production in the farming industry as well as
the numerous factors contributing to America 's rise from a depression the country saw a boom in
spending power and food production. With the mindset of efficiency and convenience prevailing in
the American household a whole new type of restaurant was born, the drive–through. From the
drive–through many major fast food businesses were born, and through franchising they spread
across the country. As fast food and the franchise grew, businesses throughout the country adapted;
The model of success changed along with the production and packing industries throughout the U.S.
Stockyards and factories condensed and moved closer to sources, and production further centralized.
Fast food continued to grow, affecting the eating habits and popular culture of America in countless
ways across decades of business and advertising. Fast food is still present in the lives of most people
today, and continues to further improve on the efficiency and convenience of its predecessors.
When World War II came to an end in 1945 the soldiers returned to a different country: Wartime
destruction had crippled the industries of many major powers, leaving America with a monopoly on
global production, jobs were easy to find and wages were higher due to a pent up need for laborers

The American Dream In 'Richard Cory' By Charles Perry
Not Actually the Ideal Dream
There used to be a belief that all hard work and effort would eventually lead up to great success,
prosperity, and happiness. Unfortunately, this false idea gives people an expectancy that people who
are determined to exceed in life, will succeed in life. This is called the American Dream. This dream
twists the true meaning of happiness. The American dream shouldn't be measured by how much
money a person has, but should lay within a person's own dream. Whether their dream is in
becoming the president or having a chance to smell fries everyday. And just because someone who
is successful, does not mean that they are satisfied –success is different to everyone. With so many
people busy trying to reach this "dream", they forget to create their own. In order to prove that the
American Dream does not exist, the song, "Richard Cory" written by Paul Simon reveals the bitter
truth in his lyrics. Simon starts off the song with a positive approach and preaches that Richard is
living the American Dream and is convinced that Cory "had everything a man could want: power, ...

In the article, "Swing in, pig out, drive off" by Charles Perry, Perry discusses the chill and laid back
vibe of Southern California which also relates to the idea of the American Dream. These drive–in

Teenagers and families went to these places to have a enjoyable time and were able to eat food on
the go! Drive–in fast foods were also an attraction to people since, "snack houses in Los Angeles
took an air of Hollywood glamour––movie stars ate at drive–ins." (line 19). Celebrity culture
symbolized the American Dream. Again referring to Paul Simon's song, "Richard Cory", Cory had

The Influence Of Ford On American Culture
At the start of the 20th Century, there were 8,000 cars in the US and 25,000 worldwide. By 1985
there were more than 375 million cars worldwide ("Car"). One company that changed the way of car
production was The Ford Motor Company. The owner of this company was named Henry Ford. He
was born on July 30, 1863, and died on April 7, 1947, (Gelderman). Ford came up with an idea
where he would just make one car model called the Model T so he could mass produce cars. He did
this so that he would use the same types of materials and save money. Doing this also reduced waste
because he used the same materials every time. On October 1, 1908, Ford successfully produced the
first Model T. In 1914 the assembly line was created and that made it possible ... Show more content

Cars may be loved by all Americans around the US, but what people don't think about is the
negative effects cars have. One major effect that cars create is pollution. Cars run off of gasoline,
and when the gasoline is being used, the car emits the exhaust through the exhaust pipe. This gas
that is released has a huge impact on the environment because it pollutes the air we breathe. Not
only that, but it affects the atmosphere's ozone layer which protects Americans from harmful gases.
Without the ozone layer the world would not be sustainable to live on. Another thing the pollution
from the cars causes is global warming. Pollution affects the earth's temperatures, which can affect
places that are usually cold. So, even though cars have many positive effects on Americans pollution
is one negative effect cars have on the

A Drive Through The Country Analysis
In Graham Greene's collection Twenty–One Stories the works vary greatly in topic, character, plot
and place. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the other, one element of craft and
its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the story A Drive Through the Country the
nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through
the country, Fred's impulsive behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The
Basement Room a young boy left home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house
without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is obvious through
the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene's construction of dialogue where
the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that takes place before or in between the moments
of dialogue show us that the characters do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the
stories' future goings–on hold mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will
they ever get what they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers
ponder during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would lack
mystery and suspense. For it is through Greene's straightforward narration, coupled with dialogue,
that bring readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to care about the characters and the
stories' endings.

Fast Food Obesity Essay
Throughout the years, fast food is becoming more and more of an outlet for many people that are
short on change, in a rush but still need to grab a bite to eat, or even who are just too lazy to cook a
meal. Fast food is very cheap, yet when we eat it we don't necessarily realize the price we pay when
we are starting to gain weight. Who is to blame? The person that is addicted to fast food, or the fast
food restaurants? I agree fast food is cheap, yet delicious. I understand that it may get addicting, I do
not believe that it is the restaurants fault for your lack of self–control. Eating fast food all the time
can put you up against some major health risks. As claimed by, "Fast Food and Obesity," Every 4
out of 10 adults in the USA will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the fast food world spread across the nation, obesity was shortly following in its footsteps.
According to, "The History of the Fast Food Industry," Since 1970 the amount of fast food
restaurants have doubled, which equates to roughly 300,000 establishments in the United States.
Ironically, 33.8% of the U.S. population is affected by obesity and 19% of children and young adults
are also affected.
Now days, you can find a fast food restaurant every time you turn a corner. According to, Sarah
Muntel, the Author of "Fast Food– Is It the Enemy," you can choose from a variety of things to eat.
You can get a greasy burger, crunchy tacos, or a drink that is filled with sugar. Why should we take
the time go buy and prepare a meal when there are a variety of foods all around you? That is the
problem that we are facing. Fast food is extremely cheap. You can order dollar cheeseburgers, dollar
sodas, and you can even make those orders supersized just with pennies. People even claim that it is
cheaper to eat at a restaurant than it is to prepare a meal in your own kitchen. Most Americans now
days are having overscheduled and overcommitted jobs, which means that there is no free time in
their daily lives to prepare their own meals. There is not anything easier than just going through the
drive thru at your favorite fast food restaurant on your way home from work, or taking your child
out for a milkshake if they do well in their baseball game. The problem is, people don't look

Consumerism In Fast Food, By Eric Schlosser
At the onset of the book, Eric Schlosser begins with an interesting story about Cheyenne Mountain.
The mountain houses a military base in which one thousand and five hundred people work. Their
role is to maintain the base as they gather information from spy satellites, blimps, radars, and other
gadgets. At first, this may put off the reader as it has no correlation at all to the topic. It could also
raise the reader's curiosity to see how this story relates to fast foods. However Schlosser brings in
the connection by introducing the delivery man who drops off pizzas and collects money. Even
though people may be working in difficult situations, fast food is an aspect that people cannot
distance themselves from. He notes that over the last thirty years there has been an infiltration of fast
foods in every part of the American society. The fast food industry took off from modest hot dogs
and hamburgers in the Southern Californian part and kept on spreading to all corners of the
American soil, in which a broad range of products are sold to customers who can afford to pay for

Analysis Of Where Are You Going Where Have You Been
Joyce Carol Oates's story, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" is about Connie, fifteen,
who is preoccupied with her appearance. Her mother gets upset with her for admiring herself so
frequently, however Connie doesn't seem to care much for her mother's opinions. Connie's mother is
constantly comparing Connie to her sister June who is twenty–four. June is neat and responsible.
Their father works a lot and seems to ignore his daughters. Their mother on the other hand is
constantly nagging Connie.
Because June goes out with her girlfriends, their mother allows Connie to go out with her best friend
Betty. Betty's father drives Connie and Betty to a shopping center in town but never asks questions
about how the girls spent their night. Connie and Betty sometimes sneak across the highway,
dodging cars so that they can go to a drive–in restaurant to listen to music and meet boys.
One night when the girls went to the drive–in, a boy named Eddie invites Connie to eat dinner with
him. Connie agrees and leaves her friend at the counter telling her that she will meet back up with
her by eleven o'clock. As Eddie and Connie walk through the parking lot, she notices a man in a
gold convertible. He smiles at her and says, "Gonna get you, baby." Connie doesn't show him much
interest, and Eddie is oblivious to the man.
One Sunday, Connie's parents and her sister June leave her at home alone while they go to a family
barbeque. After relaxing in the yard for some time she goes inside

b) Illustrate your chosen process with the help of a transformation model.
Answer a) "Many methodologies and techniques for improving operational performance have been
developed over the years – these provide structured ways of improving company performance, but
they do not explicitly tell us where to start. To be able to improve performance effectively, it is
important to identify the particular factors of performance to work with. Furthermore, it is important

Fast Food Industry By Eric Schlosser
Estrella
Introduction
1. Eric Schlosser chose the topic of fast food industry because he became quite inspired after
reading an article about illegal immigrants in a strawberry field and how they a suffered in the
process. The article was based on an investigation that was placed on the fields while they worked.
It was also based on the immense impact that this industry had on society. Schlosser wanted to as
said in his book "shed light" to the world on how successful hard working industry works. Also the
way American industries portray and work in the diligent industry throughout the years . Since the
fast food restaurants are known as one of the most active businesses which makes them a perfect
example of what he was trying to convey.
2. "The Jungle's" effect on both Theodore Roosevelt and the meatpacking industry due to the fact
that it was concentrated on the lives of immigrants which was very impactful at the time. Many of
which were going through unsanitary conditions as well as health violations . It also portrayed the
lack of social help in which no one was doing anything to help those workers. Fast Food Nation
hasn 't impacted as much because of how enormously Fast Food is a part of the world. As said in the
book purchasing fast food has been a part of life that is almost 1st nature to Americans and those
who expirience fast food daily , Because of this reforming fast food companies would be extremly
difficult to do.

Mcdonalds Executive Summary
Executive Summary: McDonald's Corporation (Abridged)
McDonald's development from its first drive–in restaurant in San Bernardino, California, to the
famous fast food giant was based on the perfection of its operations – the recipe for its success and
growth. Its operating system is characterized by focusing on uniformity for consistent quality, the
formation of partner relationship with its franchises and supplier to improve operating system
innovatively and last but not least the introduction of new products. With its steady drive for
improvement and consistently high quality,
McDonald's revolutionized the entire supply chain. Instead of regimenting its supplier and

All these factors are not in line with the existent nature of McDonald's premises and business model.
Thus, it is recommendable to
McDonald's to extend its operating hours to 24 hours a day to cater late–night activist, especially in
big cities. Additionally, McDonald's could acquire dining specialists or consultants who could help
McDonald's to penetrate into the dinner market without risking its existing business model for fast
food while benefiting from the profit arising from investing in established dinner specialists.
After successfully coped with the mentioned hurdles, McDonald's did not interpret the rising call for
protecting the world's environment as a threat, but as another opportunity and soon implemented a
responsible environmental policy into its evolving operations strategy. Moreover, though,
McDonald's could show further support by using environmental friendly material and solar–energy
heater, introducing healthier food as well as sponsoring environmental protection events. All these
efforts not only can enhance McDonald's image on the one hand but also can boost its sales and
reduce operating costs on the other.
All in all, the case has shown that although McDonald's needed to adopt to certain industry changes
in order to sustain its market position, it still offers its standardized core products and benefits from
its wellstructured operating system, making it to the McDonald's which everybody is familiar

The Success Of The Mcdonald 's Corporation
Around 95 percent of American households have a television, and with that 95 percent the average
american home will have at least one television turned on for around 7 hours according to the group
TV–Free America. They also state that a child will watch around 20,000 commercials a year. But
that is just commercials there are also posters and ads on the radio as well, meaning that you cannot
escape the overwhelming amount of advertisements out there. Not only are there thousands of
commercials being seen each year, but also there are certain ways as to how these commercials are
designed and delivered. We give these very little thought but the companies slogans seem to stick to
us like glue. In 1955, a man by the name of Ray Kroc founded the McDonald's Corporation. He
bought the name rights from brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. Kroc took this small restaurant and
turned it into one of the most well known companies in the world. By the end of 2008 Mcdonald's
had grown to 31967 locations in 118 countries. With 58 million customers a day worldwide its hard
to not see a McDonalds ad around. ( James) People know that fast food is not good for the body but
if it is fast, tastes good, and cheap people will buy it. Thats because in this day and age most people
are employed and don 't usually have time to sit and eat a nice lunch, so instead they turn to fast
food and with McDonalds continuously growing popularity that is what we think about first if we
need food and fast.

Disadvantages Of Mcdonaldization
McDonaldization has traveled over various types of demographics, it has developed from not only a
restaurant based business but now you see McDonaldization in the workplace, dieting, education
institutions, healthcare, politics; it is everywhere. The undeniable success of
McDonald's world renowned business (rationalization) example has thus been embraced by
countless businesses and lives all over the world.
Taking elements of Max Weber's earlier works, George Ritzer takes it a bit further and coined the
term McDonaldization, even though it goes back to Henry Ford's era, and his use of an assembly

There are a few disadvantages of McDonaldization, such as the realization that you are doing all the

having the worker to actually do it; you waste your time in the end. Then the sense of actual
personal interaction you would normally experience with a worker is lost. Just because something

Connie Fits ( The Category Of The Girl Next Door

household where her father works often and hardly ever talks to his daughters, but her mother never
stops nagging Connie. (Her mother says, "Stop gawking at yourself. Who are you? You think you're

rather boring and lifeless. Connie is the average teenager who is looking to be loved, since she does
not get affection or attention at home. When she goes out with friends, her double personality comes

these restaurants, the time of years and the weather have a huge effect on their sales volume. The
lower their sales volume the higher percent of operating cost that they have. During the winter, sales

inventory and labor are the biggest monthly expense from all three restaurants. Since all three of

What Makes A Fast Food Restaurant?
Ancient Rome and Greece had thermopoliums, which is where ready–to–eat food was served for
travelers. Unfortunately, when the volcanoes erupted in Pompeii, the thermopoliums were
destroyed. The thermopolium is often compared to the modern day fast food restaurant, due to the
already prepared food and quick service. Everyone has eaten fast food in their life, but do they know
the history and consequences of choosing the fast food life?
White Castle, which opened in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 is credited as the first fast food restaurant.
White Castle's founders decided to change how the public perceived hamburgers, since many people
saw hamburgers as low quality. For this reason, they built their restaurant so that the customers
could see their food being prepared. The term fast food was not widely used when White Castle first
opened. The actual term fast food was recognized in the Merriam–Webster dictionary in 1951. A fast
food restaurant is generally known for its fast food cuisine, minimal table service, and quick service.
The customers place their own orders and take care of picking up their own condiments, utensils,
etc. The Curb Service started as a novelty at an A&W shop, but soon spread nationwide.
In 1955, April 15, the first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. The first assembly
line was introduced in 1937. An assembly line is a line of method where meals are put together very
quickly by several employees. McDonald's growth spread tremendously

from the window, deciding I bothered them enough and it was time to leave.

The Four Principles Of George Ritzer's Mcdonaldization Of...
The industrial revolution in the eighteenth century, changed dramatically the way of life for many
americans. As fast food restaurants became a part of the american diet, many fast food chains
competed aggressively to become the best, and maintain their spots at the top of the fast food chain.
Given that many of these fast food restaurants still are profitable and successful today, there is no
doubt that these companies are doing something to insure their food continues to draw people into
their many restaurants and drive in locations. At an attempt to study the four principles of George
Ritzer's "McDonaldization of Society", I observed three different fast food restaurants. My
observations included McDonald's and Jack in the box..
George Ritzer came up with the term "McDonaldization of Society" to explain a sociological
phenomenon occurring in society, and identified four important principles; these include efficiency,
calculability, predictability, and control. The first, calculability, is defined as "The optimum method
of completing a task. The rational determination of the best mode of production. Individuality is not
allowed." (Burleson). The second is defines as "Assessment of outcomes based on quantifiable
rather than subjective criteria." (Burleson). The third is defined as "The production process is
organized to guarantee uniformity of product and standardized outcomes." (Burleson). Lastly,
control, is defined as "The substitution of more predictable non–human

Market and environmental analysis of McDonalds Corp – 2003.
Market and environmental analysis is an essential part of an organization's External Analysis.
The main objectives of a market analysis are;
a) To determine how attractive a market is.
b) To understand the dynamics of the market and amend strategies accordingly.
Here we apply the dimensions of a Market Analysis to McDonalds corp.
1) Emerging submarkets;
McDonalds failed to recognize the changing trend in customer's preferences to better tasting, fresher
food. This trend led to new sub markets emerging for tastier, fresher and fast food perceived as
healthier. A few of the smaller/privately owned competitors (Cosi and Quizno's) were able to operate
in niche markets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the rising immigrant population customers now had a choice of items. McDonalds realize this
too late and try to counter this effect by introducing new burgers. However, the testing of the new
menu does not gauge strongly enough the changing customer preferences and this poor planning led
to its failure.
Internally changing trends were also blindsided. Franchisees who were the closest to customers were
not included in decision making and were thus disgruntled. Here was the need to change the
management style from top–down to bottom–up. This would have solved some of the issues
plaguing McDonalds, by providing data on what customers want and what products would have a
greater chance of success.
7) Key success Factors
McDonalds did have some strengths or key success factors;
a) Large number of franchises that led to economies of scale. This however contrasted to the 'small
is beautiful' concept of the niche markets.
b) Complete training for franchisees to begin and run their own McDonalds proved to be a good
team building exercise.
c) Cost of food was low due to economies of scale and economies of size. Moreover, McDonalds
was able to negotiate a reasonable price for high quality food products.
McDonalds failed to realize the changing trends in the casual fast food markets, as a result of which,
a large part of the market share was taken over by existing brands like Wendy's and new players

there for 3/4 hours of burning, disintegrating with some of me over here, and other parts over there.
Then finally it opens up and I am push out of the gigantic potbelly into an crazy fun roller coaster.
Twist, turn, crash! Each corner gets funner and funner. But as i'm going through this tube I am mixed
with a new type of liquid and digested enough to be put into the giants blood. And all of my

First Day On The Job
First Day on the Job I've been employed in the fast food industry for just over three months now.
That may not seem like very long to someone with years of experience under their belt, but I cannot
stress enough how much these last few months have changed me. I've learned more about personal
responsibility and independence at this job than I did during four years of high school. While the
whole process has been meaningful to me, what really set it in motion was my first day behind the
counter. My first day at a real job taught me that no one is going to hold your hand past high school,
and that they shouldn't be expected to.
I was given papers to study in advance, detailing the ingredients of the food we served and the
methods behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No request to add cheese or hold the sauce was missed in the chaos, and the food was quickly
prepared and sent away to the right register. It was amazing, especially because our cook was also
our manager. Between the meals she prepared, she also kept us all in order. Everyone else
multitasked just as effectively. The supervisor who was training me was also working the drive
through window. Everyone was racing around in their non–slip shoes, effectively juggling more
balls than I even thought possible. I looked down at the rubber non–slip covers I had pulled over a
worn–out pair of sneakers, and realized how temporary I was. If I couldn't keep up, I'd be handing in
my shoe covers and going home before the dinner rush even started.
I signed in, and it was time to find my place in the organized chaos. I met the supervisor responsible
for training me by the drive through window, and between orders from customers she directed me to
the "fountain" area, where drinks and desserts were prepared. It was hardly more than a corner, with
sticky metal containers of fruit and candy flavors embedded in the counter. It faced a soda dispenser,
and an ice cream dispenser that I was about to become very familiar with. My job for the day was to
make drinks and desserts as they were ordered at the drive through window. Simple, right? On
paper, it certainly seemed that way. I didn't even have to ring up the orders or begin to worry about
how the food was made. But in practice, I was dropped

Assignment Questions On Organizational Change

  • 1. Assignment Questions On Organizational Change Week 5 Final Assignment: Organizational Change Jeremy Gunn MGT/435 Eugene Kaufman 08/25/2014 When it comes to organizations, change is constantly occuring. Managers are accountable for preparing the business, in addition to helping the employees cope with the change. The purpose of this paper is to highlight an organization and to diagnose the need for change and present a plan to transform the company, using Kotter 's 8–Step Approach. The following topics will be covered in this paper, company overview, diagnosis, Kotter 's 8–Step Approach, and Conclusion. Company Overview The company researched for the purpose of this paper is McDonald 's. This company 's history dates back since 1940 when Mac and Dick McDonald initially opened McDonald 's BBQ restaurant located in San Bernardino, CA. In 1948 they shut down the restaurant, just to reopen it as a self–service drive–in restaurant. According to About McDonald's (2012), their menu included only 9 items, such as: milk, coffee, soft drinks, cheeseburger, hamburger, potato chips, and a slice of pie. Potato chips were then replaced by French fries. The history of this company is significantly market by Ray Kroc, who in 1954 at a visit to McDonald 's in San Bernardino decides to have a franchise of McDonald 's. A year later, in 1955, he opens his first restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois. The franchising plan allowed growth and by 1965 there were more than 700 restaurants across United States. • 2. Mcdonalds Introduction The organisation we are going to look in this assignment is McDonalds. McDonald's is the leading global foodservice outlet with more than 33,500 local restaurants serving approximately 69 million people in 119 countries each day. More than 80% of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local men and women. http://www.aboutmcdonalds.com/mcd/investors/company_profile.html McDonalds has developed its operation to a very high level of efficiency over years it has been operation. One main reason is that McDonalds keeps innovating its current process design, flows, data capture, and interactions between sections, resource allocation, process technologies and its supply chain. By looking at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to produce one hamburger, 4 staff will be required based on a McDonalds kitchen layout, where each staff will perform a particular task in making the burger as mentioned below. If we look at the production of a Hamburger based from the above diagram, its production would starts at point 1 which is the Toaster, where the buns are toasted for 35 seconds by one person working only at the toaster. During quite time they may perform two or more tasks, but at busy period, they would perform one task. After the buns have been toasted, it goes to the next level of production which is point 2 at the Dressing Table where a second person would dressed the toasted buns from the condiments already stocked up on the dressing table which would take 45 seconds. At the same time the dressing starts, the person at the grill at point 3 place the frozen burger patty on the grill which is automatically set for 45 seconds. By the time the meat is ready after the 45 seconds on the grill, the dressing would be finished as well. Then the dressed toasted buns is moved from point 2 to point 3, that's mean from the dressing table to the side of the grill where the cooked meat patty will be placed on the dressed buns. The Hamburger will then be moved to point 4 which is the production display cabinet, where the person working at the production control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For future reference, this capability should be the tool whereby the adjustments necessary to accommodate a drive thru capability are visualized and ultimately realized. For perspective, as of January 2010, 7–Eleven, Inc. had earned the No. 3 spot on Entrepreneur magazine annual Franchise 500, which ranks top franchise opportunities in the U.S. An obviously healthy organization, this is 7–Eleven's 17th year to break into the top 10 (7–Eleven Inc, 2010). Problem Statement A major element of 7–11's success is its focus on convenience. By staying open 24 hours a day and offering quick and easy pre–made food items, customers are able to make a speedy stop at the store at any point during the day. 7–11 continues to add to its selection of food items to better compete with fast food restaurants and other ... • 5. Mcdonald 's A Fast Food Hamburger Chain ("McDonald's Wordmark") ("McDonald's Prix") ("Nos Menus") By: Austin Gardner 2–1 January 28, 2015 Ms. Chalmers Introduction McDonald's is a multinational fast–food hamburger chain. The company was founded in 1940 by two brothers named Maurice and Richard McDonald ("McDonald's"). McDonald's currently has over 35,000 restaurants and serve over 68 million customers a day on average ("History of"). The fast–food giant makes 28 billion dollars annually, and are the largest fast–food chain in the world ("McDonald's"). That calculates to 75 million dollars a day, which is unreal. This paper will examine the working conditions of the employees. ("McDonald's Across the World") History In 1937 Richard and Maurice's father decided to open a food stand as a hobby ("History of"). Orange juice and hamburgers were sold below market price ("History of") In fact, burgers were originally sold for only 15 cents (Gilbert, 8). After three years, the two brothers realized that their father's business was actually very profitable. Richard and Maurice decided to lease a building and open up a drive–in restaurant, to make larger production possible; they named it "McDonald's Bar–B–Q" and the soon to be fast–food giant had begun ("History of"). The restaurant the brothers opened was a drive–in, and was an instant hit. In 1948, the McDonald brothers decided that it was time to open a sit–down restaurant in which their main priority was efficiency ("History ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I kept assuming he would understand what that meant, but on the third mealtime interruption, when I was clearly annoyed, the kid say, "You guys are doing this again?" I don't mean to imply that there is hot, fresh food waiting for my husband and children at six o'clock every day. Yet I recognize that we regularly enjoy what many other families is unable to do, break bread together at an evening meal. It used to be that families sat down to eat dinner together most nights, but the bustling nature of contemporary life, including parents' work schedules, children's extracurricular activities and the ease of fast food, make the practice less common. McDonalds has the three step drive thru process, where you order your food, thru a loud speaker, then go to window 1 to pay your order, and then go to window 2 to pick up your order. This gives them an edge because it gives the customer a perception that they are getting their food faster. They do not have to wait to pay for the food and then the clerk to prepare it. While Burger King and Wendy's do not have this process and seems that it takes a little longer to get your order from these competitors. In conclusion, these three companies are similar in many ways, but in many ways totally different. The way that they operate are similar, the operation and managing of employees are not. Even though they are similar brands and offer similar product, the reason why they are still in business is because there is always room for a competitor, and if that competitor finds a niche that gives them a log up above the rest, then they should profit off of that. • 16. Fast Food, As We Know It Charles Benck Fast food, as we know it, exists because of changes leading up to, during, and slightly after World War Two. With the war 's pressure on efficiency and production in the farming industry as well as the numerous factors contributing to America 's rise from a depression the country saw a boom in spending power and food production. With the mindset of efficiency and convenience prevailing in the American household a whole new type of restaurant was born, the drive–through. From the drive–through many major fast food businesses were born, and through franchising they spread across the country. As fast food and the franchise grew, businesses throughout the country adapted; The model of success changed along with the production and packing industries throughout the U.S. Stockyards and factories condensed and moved closer to sources, and production further centralized. Fast food continued to grow, affecting the eating habits and popular culture of America in countless ways across decades of business and advertising. Fast food is still present in the lives of most people today, and continues to further improve on the efficiency and convenience of its predecessors. When World War II came to an end in 1945 the soldiers returned to a different country: Wartime destruction had crippled the industries of many major powers, leaving America with a monopoly on global production, jobs were easy to find and wages were higher due to a pent up need for laborers (see appendix ... The American Dream In 'Richard Cory' By Charles Perry Not Actually the Ideal Dream There used to be a belief that all hard work and effort would eventually lead up to great success, prosperity, and happiness. Unfortunately, this false idea gives people an expectancy that people who are determined to exceed in life, will succeed in life. This is called the American Dream. This dream twists the true meaning of happiness. The American dream shouldn't be measured by how much money a person has, but should lay within a person's own dream. Whether their dream is in becoming the president or having a chance to smell fries everyday. And just because someone who is successful, does not mean that they are satisfied –success is different to everyone. With so many people busy trying to reach this "dream", they forget to create their own. In order to prove that the American Dream does not exist, the song, "Richard Cory" written by Paul Simon reveals the bitter truth in his lyrics. • 19. A Drive Through The Country Analysis In Graham Greene's collection Twenty–One Stories the works vary greatly in topic, character, plot and place. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the other, one element of craft and its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the story A Drive Through the Country the nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through the country, Fred's impulsive behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The Basement Room a young boy left home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is obvious through the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene's construction of dialogue where the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that takes place before or in between the moments of dialogue show us that the characters do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the stories' future goings–on hold mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will they ever get what they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers ponder during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would lack mystery and suspense. For it is through Greene's straightforward narration, coupled with dialogue, that bring readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to care about the characters and the stories' endings. ... The mountain houses a military base in which one thousand and five hundred people work. • 28. Fast Food Industry By Eric Schlosser Estrella Introduction 1. Eric Schlosser chose the topic of fast food industry because he became quite inspired after reading an article about illegal immigrants in a strawberry field and how they a suffered in the process. The article was based on an investigation that was placed on the fields while they worked. It was also based on the immense impact that this industry had on society. Schlosser wanted to as said in his book "shed light" to the world on how successful hard working industry works. Also the way American industries portray and work in the diligent industry throughout the years . Since the fast food restaurants are known as one of the most active businesses which makes them a perfect example of what he was trying to convey. 2. "The Jungle's" effect on both Theodore Roosevelt and the meatpacking industry due to the fact that it was concentrated on the lives of immigrants which was very impactful at the time. Many of which were going through unsanitary conditions as well as health violations . It also portrayed the lack of social help in which no one was doing anything to help those workers. Fast Food Nation hasn 't impacted as much because of how enormously Fast Food is a part of the world. As said in the book purchasing fast food has been a part of life that is almost 1st nature to Americans and those who expirience fast food daily , Because of this reforming fast food companies would be extremly difficult to do. 3. Additionally, McDonald's could acquire dining specialists or consultants who could help McDonald's to penetrate into the dinner market without risking its existing business model for fast food while benefiting from the profit arising from investing in established dinner specialists. After successfully coped with the mentioned hurdles, McDonald's did not interpret the rising call for protecting the world's environment as a threat, but as another opportunity and soon implemented a responsible environmental policy into its evolving operations strategy. Moreover, though, McDonald's could show further support by using environmental friendly material and solar–energy heater, introducing healthier food as well as sponsoring environmental protection events. All these efforts not only can enhance McDonald's image on the one hand but also can boost its sales and reduce operating costs on the other. All in all, the case has shown that although McDonald's needed to adopt to certain industry changes in order to sustain its market position, it still offers its standardized core products and benefits from its wellstructured operating system, making it to the McDonald's which everybody is familiar ... The Success Of The Mcdonald 's Corporation Around 95 percent of American households have a television, and with that 95 percent the average american home will have at least one television turned on for around 7 hours according to the group TV–Free America. They also state that a child will watch around 20,000 commercials a year. But that is just commercials there are also posters and ads on the radio as well, meaning that you cannot escape the overwhelming amount of advertisements out there. Not only are there thousands of commercials being seen each year, but also there are certain ways as to how these commercials are designed and delivered. We give these very little thought but the companies slogans seem to stick to us like glue. In 1955, a man by the name of Ray Kroc founded the McDonald's Corporation. He bought the name rights from brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. Kroc took this small restaurant and turned it into one of the most well known companies in the world. By the end of 2008 Mcdonald's had grown to 31967 locations in 118 countries. With 58 million customers a day worldwide its hard to not see a McDonalds ad around. ( James) People know that fast food is not good for the body but if it is fast, tastes good, and cheap people will buy it. Thats because in this day and age most people are employed and don 't usually have time to sit and eat a nice lunch, so instead they turn to fast food and with McDonalds continuously growing popularity that is what we think about first if we need food and fast. ... Connie grows up in a household where her father works often and hardly ever talks to his daughters, but her mother never stops nagging Connie. (Her mother says, "Stop gawking at yourself. Who are you? You think you're so pretty?") (157). Her sister, June, is the goody–goody type who hardly ever gets into trouble and is rather boring and lifeless. Connie is the average teenager who is looking to be loved, since she does not get affection or attention at home. When she goes out with friends, her double personality comes out. She shortens her shirt and ties it in the front to show skin and lets her long hair down her back to draw in the attention of boys. She gets one boys attention, Arnold Friend, who will come to forever change her life. Connie's lack of a family causes her to have low self–esteem, and ultimately, to be unable to defend herself against Arnold Friend. Connie is a very apprehensive girl who needs attentiveness and to be loved by humans. Her family does not show her this at home, so when she goes out with her friends she makes sure to get boys attention. Connie is often disrespected in her household by her mom, which makes her insecure and vulnerable to boys. • 34. What Makes A Fast Food Restaurant? Ancient Rome and Greece had thermopoliums, which is where ready–to–eat food was served for travelers. Unfortunately, when the volcanoes erupted in Pompeii, the thermopoliums were destroyed. The thermopolium is often compared to the modern day fast food restaurant, due to the already prepared food and quick service. Everyone has eaten fast food in their life, but do they know the history and consequences of choosing the fast food life? White Castle, which opened in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 is credited as the first fast food restaurant. White Castle's founders decided to change how the public perceived hamburgers, since many people saw hamburgers as low quality. For this reason, they built their restaurant so that the customers could see their food being prepared. The term fast food was not widely used when White Castle first opened. The actual term fast food was recognized in the Merriam–Webster dictionary in 1951. A fast food restaurant is generally known for its fast food cuisine, minimal table service, and quick service. The customers place their own orders and take care of picking up their own condiments, utensils, etc. The Curb Service started as a novelty at an A&W shop, but soon spread nationwide. In 1955, April 15, the first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. The first assembly line was introduced in 1937. I required a few extra people for this social norm breakage so that I wouldn't have to pay for all of it. We met up that night, piled into the car, and took a trip to the local Wendy's restaurant to buy some dinner. • 37. The Four Principles Of George Ritzer's Mcdonaldization Of... The industrial revolution in the eighteenth century, changed dramatically the way of life for many americans. As fast food restaurants became a part of the american diet, many fast food chains competed aggressively to become the best, and maintain their spots at the top of the fast food chain. Given that many of these fast food restaurants still are profitable and successful today, there is no doubt that these companies are doing something to insure their food continues to draw people into their many restaurants and drive in locations. At an attempt to study the four principles of George Ritzer's "McDonaldization of Society", I observed three different fast food restaurants. My observations included McDonald's and Jack in the box.. George Ritzer came up with the term "McDonaldization of Society" to explain a sociological phenomenon occurring in society, and identified four important principles; these include efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. The first, calculability, is defined as "The optimum method of completing a task. The rational determination of the best mode of production. Individuality is not allowed." (Burleson). The second is defines as "Assessment of outcomes based on quantifiable rather than subjective criteria." (Burleson). The third is defined as "The production process is organized to guarantee uniformity of product and standardized outcomes." (Burleson). I wanted to choose movies that illustrated leadership traits within the Army and the commercial sector. I will compare and contrast the two main characters and the movies. The main characters from both movies share some similar leadership styles and personalities but also have very different values and morals. These leaders exercised critical and creative thinking in order to accomplish their goals. As I will illustrate, one leader is one that I would follow into battle (or work for) and the other certainly not. The brothers noticed during the great depression the only person making money was a small stand selling Hotdogs and root beer. The brothers wanted to relocated their business to San Bernardino but did not have money to buy a new stand. Oats displays the effects of youthfulness in a teenage girl named Connie. The story is a gripping story that unveils the weakness of a teenage girl. Connie could hardly validate fantasy from reality. She delights herself as a beautiful girl who understands the basic mores of life. Her need for boys attention makes her pride herself as a shinning example of beauty. Connie finds desire in her sexuality, listening to music and daydreaming her ideas into fantasies. Connie's major dilemma in the story is Arnold Friend, which we will explore later. The importance's of the music in this short story is pronounce, because I feel that music sets the mood for important events, that Connie deals with. The premise that flows through this story is that music is connected to the real world and weaves through Connie 's dream world. Connie is very much like many teenagers in our society today. Connie found joy in leaving and hanging out with her friends at drive–in restaurants, listening to music and daydreaming about boys. The main objectives of a market analysis are; a) To determine how attractive a market is. b) To understand the dynamics of the market and amend strategies accordingly. Here we apply the dimensions of a Market Analysis to McDonalds corp. 1) Emerging submarkets; McDonalds failed to recognize the changing trend in customer's preferences to better tasting, fresher food. This trend led to new sub markets emerging for tastier, fresher and fast food perceived as healthier. A few of the smaller/privately owned competitors (Cosi and Quizno's) were able to operate in niche markets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the rising immigrant population customers now had a choice of items. McDonalds realize this too late and try to counter this effect by introducing new burgers. However, the testing of the new menu does not gauge strongly enough the changing customer preferences and this poor planning led to its failure. Internally changing trends were also blindsided. Franchisees who were the closest to customers were not included in decision making and were thus disgruntled. Here was the need to change the management style from top–down to bottom–up. This would have solved some of the issues plaguing McDonalds, by providing data on what customers want and what products would have a greater chance of success. 7) Key success Factors McDonalds did have some strengths or key success factors; a) Large number of franchises that led to economies of scale. This however contrasted to the 'small is beautiful' concept of the niche markets. b) Complete training for franchisees to begin and run their own McDonalds proved to be a good team building exercise. c) Cost of food was low due to economies of scale and economies of size. Moreover, McDonalds was able to negotiate a reasonable price for high quality food products.
