99 Card Game Math Fair
The game that I choose for the Math Fair was the 99 card game. This is where students can practices
uses their mental math skills and add up numbers to 99. Ten was the only number that they can be
subtracted in this game. This game can be played with 2 to 5 players and if you go over 99 you are
out. To first start off the game each player is dealt 3 cards and they add those up to get their running
total. All cards are worth their face value except for the following: king is automatically 99, four
reverses the order, ten subjects ten from the running total, ace counts as one, and nine skips your
turn. Finally, if you go over 99 you are out and the last player playing wins.
A modification that I added was allowing the students a small scratch paper to write down their
running total so they wouldn't forget. However, I noticed that some students were not using it as

it said it was fun. As a teacher, we need to keep in mind of fun ways for student to practice their

healthy competition between friends. I know when I was in 4th and 5th grade I played the game try
to beat the calculator, but this dealt with using multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. So
the 99 card game could be for students who need work with addition, but beat the calculator can be
modified for students who are more advanced and who might get bored with doing repeated

The novel follows the story of a young boy, aged 6 as he triumphs over challenges and 'saves

characters. The main character – Ender is influenced by a number of other side characters, but in

games. When first being assigned commander, Ender knows that he needs to treat the Launchies just

When I first read this book, I had several reactions. "Gee, that was depressing," was the first. The
second was, "I'll bet that son of a gun, Card, put some symbolism up in that book. I wonder where it
is?" It's taken me a while, but I think I've figured it out. First, I want you to ask yourself: what is a
game? In some cases, a game is another place for people to go to escape the bores of everyday life.
In other cases, a game is the problem. The latter is the case for poor Ender. Games play a major part
in this story. So what is the author trying to portray here? There is a fine line between games and
reality, and the moment the line disappears, things get super screwy. "This game knows too much
about me. This game tells filthy lies" (page 119). Games played throughout the story include
"Buggers and astronauts" and the Battle School competitions, but I just want to focus on the last
game Ender plays: the actual war. Spoiler alert! I tried to avoid spoilers, I really did, but you can kill

Fallacy Cards: Game Analysis
This week, I contributed primarily to three different aspects of the project: the game, the skit, and
the STAAR–like questions. On Monday, I helped complete our game. The game, similar to Apples
to Apples, consists of several rounds. Each round someone draws a fallacy card and a topic card.
Each player, except one who acts as judge, must make a logical fallacy specified on the card
regarding the topic drawn. The judge chooses the best answer and the player who gets the point
must then explain why their statement was fallacious and provide a correct alternative. This week, I
helped to establish the rules and structure for the game and complete the set of thirty fallacy cards.

While working on the aforementioned game, I researched various logical fallacies and developed an
understanding of their meanings and uses. For instance, I learned about the loaded question fallacy,
which presents a question to an argumentative opponent, which implies guilt or makes the opponent
seem guilty regardless of how they answer. I learned that this type of fallacy works most effectively
(as a misdirection) when applied in contexts when the audience's views about the arguers' characters
matter, such as in political debates and court cases held before a jury. Another example of a fallacy I
learned about is the fallacy fallacy, which argues that an argument automatically becomes invalid
when someone uses a fallacy to support it. In addition to learning about logical fallacies, I
developed a clearer understanding of my group's standard by reviewing the example questions on
Google Classroom and practicing making my own questions. From this practice, I learned that
STAAR generally tests my group's standard (10A/B) by asking questions about the speaker's
argument. These questions generally ask why the speaker uses certain language and what their
opinions the speaker holds about certain topics based on what they said. I applied this knowledge by
making my own STAAR–like questions modeled after the examples. In general, I learned the

was a tremendous book. Though it may not have been the most entertaining book out there, it
definitely had some good points in the storyline. The themes I noticed in the book were compassion
and tyranny, along with the role that children can play. The protagonist in the book is Ender
Wiggins, and the antagonist is Peter Wiggins. The personal meaning I took from this book is that it
does not matter your age on what you can achieve. Ender is just a young boy who leads and saves
the world. The book takes place in the future even though it was written in the 80's. Ender is born
into a family of highly intelligent people. As a child he is hated by his brother, Peter, along with
other schoolmates and is protected by his sister, Valentine. He has to leave Valentine behind when
he is taken away to Battle School, which is located on a ship very far away from earth so he can
assist in the fight against the buggers. Ender shows off his extreme intelligence and is separated
from the rest of the recruits by Colonel Graff of the International Fleet. Ender then becomes friends
with a recruit name Alai. This aids Ender to make friends and fit in with people. Ender is noticed by
the military commanders because of his dominance in "the mind game". He is promoted to the
Salamander Army shortly after. While in the Salamander Army, Ender becomes friends with the

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card Essay

directed by Gavin Hood is the motion picture based – very loosely – on that novel. So how true to
