1. Working Title: Stop Mr. Franks
This can change if you think of something better later
Target Gaming Platform:
My game will mainly be a game that is available on iOS and also on PC. It would be good on a PC
because with the cursor keys and the spacebar it would be very straightforward to control. It would
also be good to use on a phone/tablet because it would be a good source of passing the time.
Genre:
Game play/perspective/single or multiplayer etc. This is a mixture of story and shooter. It will be a
2d side scroll and a single player. The game will be viewed in 3rd person. This is because it is a 2d
game therefore you will need to see exactly what your character is doing.
Language / Territories
This game would be suitable all over the world. Mainly in English speaking countries as the
speaking in the game will all be in English however there will be the option of foreign subtitles. This
game may not appeal to people from non-western countries as there are no characters from that
region of the world and also because all of the enemies you face throughout the game are white,
British middle-aged males. It also has features which may be seen as ageist because you are
saving children which may make children come across as weak and defenceless. There will be a
section of the population who are not happy with the game as it includes gun violence.
Synopsis / Treatment / Story / How the game plays:
You will play as Andy, a 38 year old who finds out about the children being kidnapped and wants
to make a name for himself by saving them. The aim of my game will be to save school children
from Mr. Franks’ dungeon. As you go through the game your obstacles and enemies will become a
lot tougher and the scenery will become a lot grimmer as you gradually approach the dungeon.
On the final mission you will come face to face with Mr. Franks, you then have to kill him. Although
he will not physically touch you he will do all he can to dodge your shots and will throw things at
you. In the normal levels if you hit an obstacle you will be forced to restart the level.
The game is going to be a timed game. You will be given 6 minutes in which to complete each
level apart from the final level which you’ll be given as much time as you need to complete it.

Style (similar products and graphical style):
The main inspiration for my game was mainly ‘Super Mario Bros’ but eventually I found out that
there is a product very similar to mine called ‘Contra.’ The main aspects of Super Mario I will also
be using in my game are that if you fall off an edge you will be forced to start the level again.
However, on Mario if goombas walk into and you have not eaten a mushroom in any event before
that you will have to start again. On my game if you get clubbed or shot by a soldier and you
haven’t picked up any health pack you will have to start again. Mario is also a side-scroll game and
it is also cartoon instead of being realistic.
I have also taken inspiration from ‘Contra’ which is another 2D side-scroll shooter game. In my
game there is a lot of blood involved, however in Contra there is no blood at all involved. Contra
involves enemies which are not what you would expect a normal person to look like whereas my
game is mainly all real life characters.
2. Proposal Guidance
Audience:
My game will be targeted at mainly males aged between 16 and 19 but there will be the option of
selecting a male or female character. This would attract a female audience because they will have
more freedom of choice in the game. This game will be aimed at an A,B,C1 audience as they
would have the right disposable income to be able to afford and buy the game and also the time to
play it. The main psychographic would be wannabe’s because they seem to prefer having a sense
of freedom and can escape to a world where they can be the hero and completely in control. The
game could also appeal to over 20’s as they will want that sense of escapism and also most of the
characters in the game are around their sort of age. The game would probably be played by
heterosexual males as they seem to show more interest in violence than homosexual men and
women in general. The game would mainly be played by people in the North of England instead of
the South as it is believed that Northerners have a lot more spare time on their hands than the
Southern population and tend to enjoy themselves a bit more.
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
One of the main things I will have to consider is the language I use in the game as some people
are not as lenient towards swearing as others. I intend to use some swearing but I have to make
sure that it is reasonably mild so that it is suitable for 16 year olds. Some people are very sensitive
about guns and the idea of blood being used but I intend to include these features.
I will have to give my game a 15 rating to restrict younger gamers playing it.
Schools may not take the idea of children being kidnapped mixed in with gun violence too kindly as
they seem to believe that computer games can have a negative influence on how children behave
inside of school.
My game uses its own logos and characters therefore I will not have to have to pay any company a
certain amount of money.
The only game that I could potentially get sued for being too much alike to is ‘Contra.’ Contra is
also a 2D side-scroll shooter game. However my game is a lot more advanced, by which I mean it
is a lot gorier and the language is significantly milder though they could state a case because of
the weapon options etc…
