2. After we had a final opening sequence, we had the opportunity
to view our films in a screening that was organised in our college
theatre. Many students, parents, teachers and a film maker
attended in order to give us their opinions on our open sequence
as well as inform us on how successful it was presented.
Everyone that was part of the audience answered a
questionnaire in order to give us feedback so we are able to
improve our opening sequences. I felt that the audience
feedback at the screening was extremely vital, as it made me and
my group recognise faults in our video that we did not previously
see, as well as praise ourselves for the good job we had done.

Did you understand the story line?
There were 16 people who
took part in my
questionnaire, and 10 out of
the 16 people said that they
understood the storyline of
my opening sequence. 5
people said that they did not
understand it, and 1 person
said sort of. Although the
majority of the audience
understood my story line,
some people did not,
therefore as a group we have
decided to add in another
character who is the hero, in
order to make out story line
more interesting.

Did this film feel like the beginning of the film?
10 out of the 16 people said
that they felt like it was the
beginning of the film,
however 6 people said that
no. Therefore, as a group we
decided to start our opening
sequence with a aerial shot
of our main location.

The majority of the audience
is answer was ‘sort of’,
however watching the film
the understood the film. On
the other hand I decided to
change the titles of my film
to ‘can you hear me?’ instead
of ‘the stone’ as we felt it
wasn’t very appealing to the
audience. Additionally, I
changed the way the titles
look to make it look like more
of its set theme, which was a
horror genre, as the previous
titles were blue and white,
which didn't look very
scary and therefore appealing
to my audience.
Did the titles help you understand the film?

What type of film does this look like in terms of its genre?
Everyone that viewed our
opening sequence, could
clearly tell that it was a
horror due to the wide
variety of technological
techniques used including
gothic titles, sound used to
build suspense, isolated
locations and outfits and
costumes of the characters
that portray them as either
possessed or evil. So as a
group we did not need to
change anything in order to
make it look like a horror as
it already did.

Did the sound work well with the images?
Most of the audience felt as if
the sound worked well with
the images , for example we
used non diegetic sound of a
voice over with the
protagonist looking towards
the camera as if she’s trying
to find out where the sound
is coming from. Additionally
the sound of classical music is
used t build p suspense and
therefore works well with the
images.

The answers to this question
helped me and my group
members to improve the
editing of our film by, for
example adding a sepia
effect on one of the scenes
to highlight the flash back, as
well as a dissolve in order t
emphasise on the fact that
the protagonist is
remembering something in
the past.
Did the editing suit the film and make it easy to understand it?
