1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
For my senior project I am planning on making a children’s book. I intend to create this
book with both a detailed storyline and entertaining illustrations. I will further more
attempt to get it published and made into an official book.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience in this area of study is very minimal. I have never actually
written a storyline in this kind of context but I have definitely read some in my past.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I will connect this project to a career in children’s writing and possibly a career in
journalism.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on
the back of this sheet if necessary.
I will begin creating this product by coming up with a storyline which interests both
the child and guardian reading. To start this storyline I will have to decide what age
group I am hoping to target. After doing so I will begin jotting down ideas to consider
what I want to write the storyline on and how it will be written. Next, I will gather up
all of my ideas and begin to put them into the overall story. Then, I will brainstorm on
the kinds of pictures I want to be in the children’s book and add the illustrations as
they pertain to the storyline. I will possibly get my aunt to help me with the
illustrations since she happens to be an artist. Finally I will put both the storyline and
pictures into completion and contact a publicist to get the book reviewed and
published. Furthermore, I will have a published children’s book that I can share with
younger nieces and nephews that will enjoy and hopefully benefit from it.
5) How is this projecta “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
This project is definitely a challenge for me because I have never written an actual book
before in an organized manner like I will be doing so over the next nine months. I am
quite intrigued with making and learning the ways to create this children’s book. This
is also a learning stretch for me because writing essays like I’m used to is very much
different from the writing done in children’s books. I am very excited about this project
and how everything will turn out.
2. 6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
My estimated costs for this project will probably be in the range of $75-$125,
considering the publishing and materials I will use to make the book. I will fund these
costs with my own money for now but when I finish the published book I plan to get
some copies made and possibly sell some to get revenue back.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
For my project facilitator I have chosen Mrs. K. White.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
Mrs. K is an expert in this field because she has been a writer and a published author
for many years now.
