Planning booklet
1. Digital Graphic Narrative Planning
Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You
should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that
context rather than just as a college project.
Costs:
The cost to make my children’s book will just be for the equipment I need to do the illustration side of my
production. So, the cost will be for pens, pencils and paper which should come to about £10-£15.
Available resources:
The sources I will need but are already available to me are Photoshop, a computer or laptop, a scanner and a
quiet space. I luckily have easy access to this stuff because of college.
Quantity:
As my story is true to the original I think it should be sold as a limited edition copy so only 100 or so would be
made.
Audience and Target Market:
3-6 years old, both genders as Alice in wonderland it a gender-neutral story, I think this story is for both higher
and middle class children as it is a traditional story with some weird adaptations. But as this book is for
children their parents/carers will be buying it for them so I need to make sure that.
2. Quality Factors:
To make sure my work is to a high quality I will only do work when I have full concentration on the task so
there’s constancy through my illustrations and hopefully nothing goes wrong.
Codes of Practice:
I will keep my work to the same standard and quality through the whole of my work. I will have a set amount of
time to finish each page and leave myself additional time of improvement if they are needed.
Regulation:
I will stay by the Obscene Publications Act 1959 by not using any words or images that my offend anyone. I
will also follow the Equality Act 2010 as there will be no racism or sexism in my story as I hate all things like
and know it will offend a lot of people if I had any of that in the book.
Copyright:
As the story, I have chosen was written many years ago the author has died and no longer can claim
copyrights so the story can be used by anyone as nobody owns it anymore.
3. Ethical Issues:
The story that I have chosen doesn’t have any ethical issues that I can see so I won’t need to change or
manipulate the story in anyway.
Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which
you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.
Resource:
Do you have
it? What do you need to do to get it?
Photoshop yes
Either use the computers at college or book out a laptop from
college.
The Internet yes I can get the internet anywhere.
4. Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in
to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will
also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work
faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.
Each session is a half day of college.

10. Health and safety:
Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from
working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and
spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life.
Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from
happening.
Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work.
