Planning booklet lewis hill
1. Digital Graphic Narrative Planning
Use this booklet to help structure you’re planning and collate your planning
documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to
show you have thought about each one. You should imagine that this is a live
project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought
about in that context rather than just as a college project.
Costs:
The cost to create and produce this children’s book would be quite low due to the fact that there
are not that many pages. To print the pages onto the paper, it will cost £1.46 and to bind it
together that will cost an extra 7.5% (10p) of the price. Photoshop costs £8.99 per month. The
total cist comes to £10.55.
Available resources:
The resources I have at college are computers to use Photoshop on to create my pages, and
also college have printers to print my book.
Quantity:
I will start by printing a few copies to get the book right, and then I will eventually print 50 copies
to sell to the public to see if people like the idea of the book. If it all succeeds I will go on and
produce more copies of the book, for example 100+, and sell them to make a good profit.
Audience and Target Market:
My target market I am aiming for is children aged between 5 and 8 years of age. Because the
younger children would be told the story though their parents reading it to them, so I also have to
make a great pitch to the children’s parents because they are the ones buying the book. Also I
choose 8 year olds because they are learning to read and I have made the book easy to read
and learn new words from.
2. Quality Factors:
The quality of my book will stay the same throughout due to me keeping the same simple style on all of
my characters and backgrounds. I will do the same for the fonts as I will keep them as ‘marker felt’ or if
a character is talking then I will use ‘comic sans’. My characters will stay the same because I have
created them in a separate Photoshop document, which allows me to use them for each individual page
without creating them over and over again.
My book is different from other stories like this because it has put a unique twist on the fairytales that we
all know and love today. My book consists of a penguin going out on an adventure to find his true love
Patty. Whom Captain Claw an evil polar bear has kidnapped. The story is based on two great fairytales,
Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty.
Codes of Practice:
http://agentsassoc.co.uk/code-of-practice
Association of Authors Agents protect the codes of practice and make sure that other authors follow the
guidelines set in this code.
For example, No member shall knowingly represent the client of another agency.
The code was last edited in January of 2008.
I have done my best to follow these codes in my book.
Regulation:
I will regulate my book through other people in my class and to check if I have made any errors or if
something is discriminative or wrong.

Ethical Issues:
Ethical issues include things like slavery or euthanasisa. My book does not contain ethical issues; it
purely consists of arctic animals, like a penguin, polar bear and a fox. There is no abortion or other
issues like that.
3. Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will
need for a project and then assessing which you already have and which you need
will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to
get it before you go in to production.
Resource: Do you have it? What do you need to do to get it?
Photoshop Yes Have access at college on the computers.
Printer Yes College has granted me access to use the printer at college.
Script Yes I have already completed this. See PowerPoint.
Flat Plan Yes I have already completed this. See PowerPoint.
4. Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of
action. This will help you divide up your work in to manageable chunks to be tackled
one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which
order. It will also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind,
you will need to modify the way you work. If you work faster than expected, you can
clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.
Each session is a half day of college.

9. Health and safety:
Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in
industry, an accident could prevent you from working. Whilst we don’t work in a
highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as
trips and spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back
problems, may affect you much later in life.
Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project.
Explain how you could prevent them from happening.
Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at
work.
Health and Safety Issue
How can you prevent
it?
Eye Strain
Have 10 – 15 minutes
breaks every few hours.
RSI
Have 10 – 15 minutes
breaks every few hours.
Also do hand exercises.
Electrocution
Don’t touch live wires or
live plug sockets.
Security risks, for example hackers. Install Norton.
