Working Title:The magazine βInspireβ, an audio interview and photography portfolio called
βWilderness by Sim Kβ.
(What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later)
Productβs Purpose:
My productβs purpose for my magazine is to entertain my audience by keeping them intrigued in the
content. I will produce a music pop quiz to keep them amused and keep them thinking about it. The
audio interviewβs purpose is for those who listen to interviews rather than reading them in a magazine.
Furthermore, the photography portfolio will be for those who like the photography side. I will achieve
this by editing them to show my audience the different sides of Photoshop. I have tried to aim for
different audiences who will like different categories, so then I know the majority of my audience will
like my products.
(What is the productβs purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you achieve this?)
Genre:For my first product which is a pop music magazine. I will be producing a front cover and two
double page spreads, it will be a pop music magazine because I will be using current gossip that my
audience will find interesting and will stand out in their eyes. From my survey, I asked the question βis
there usually quizzes or gossip?β this question helped me to know what to write in my second double
page spread. This is because 60% of my audience said βbothβ, from this, I knew that a pop music quiz
would be suitable. My second product is a pop music audio interview, that will be about Rachelβs
music career so far and what it is like to be an upcoming artist. Finally, the third product has got no
theme for a photography portfolio. I didnβt pick a theme because I was taking photos of Rachel. After I
have taken the photographs, I will then edit them and put them up on Portfolio Box for my online
audience.
(What sort of product is it?)
Content:There are three parts to this music magazines. The first one being the front cover, the
second one is the interview article which will be about Rachel as her project is a music video. I will be
interviewing her as a new upcoming artist and talking about her new music career. The story behind
the article interview is about Rachelβs music career story and life so far. She will tell us about what it is
like to be an upcoming female artist in the music industry now. The last page is the follow on interview
and music pop quiz. The audio interview will be the same format but they will have different responses
to them. Finally, the photography portfolio which will be edited photos of the model. All of my product
will entertain my audience because I have done many different types of products so if one part of the
audience doesnβt like reading magazines but are interested in photography, then the portfolio will
appeal to them.
(What is your product about?
Discuss what you would put in it - be specific,
Does it have a story? If so, discuss it here)
Research & Planning: I will be using some features from my mood board. For example, my front
cover will have a female artist on, I will be using a bold masthead but elegantly bold. This will link in
with the artistβs clothing. Some of the magazines I researched were very simple, so when I did my
experiment, I made it different from the others by making the background different colour and bold.
I will most likely use a similar position for the artist to some of the Billboard magazines. Additionally,
I will make the artist on the cover, the main subject as this shows the importance of the artist which I
think is quite important.
From my survey, one question was βWhich colour do you think stands out on a magazine?β from this I
will take the colours, green, red and orange etc. Then, I will take the price consideration of the
magazine from the interview as two different people had two different prices. I think it would be
reasonable if I priced my magazine at Β£2.99 because this was the medium.
When I researched different magazines, it helped with knowing what is effective and what will get your
audience to buy your magazine by adding in a clear, bold mast head, a puff for emphasis, date and
price to show its current, buzz words such as exclusive and interesting sub-headings. I looked at three
different magazines that were current so then I knew what kind of main image to use or photograph for

it to fascinating enough for my audience. Plus, I looked at a pre-1990 magazine. This helped with the
different types of layout. The magazine βQβ has helped will help me with my layout. This is so I know
where everything will be and how to set it out, especially if I am using larger size text. The colour
scheme on the βQβ magazine also helped as it showed me what appeals to my audience. Even though
on my survey, I asked the question βDo you buy magazines if the front cover is interesting?β and 80%
of my responses were βYesβ. Well, this magazine that I looked at is very busy and there is a lot
happening.
(Where will you use elements of your research and planning to influence and inform your final idea -
be specific to certain parts)
Audience:
My audience is 16+ as I believe most people this age and older want to know the gossip and what new
album or song is coming out. This will appeal to the audience as I have chosen as they have a
particular artist they like to listen to, so theyβll want to know the gossip about that artist. The magazine
will be for females so they can read it. This will appeal to the audience as I will use different colours,
fonts and styles so a lady can pick up the magazine and read it. The psychographic for my magazine
is achiever/emulator. This will appeal to my audience as they like to respond to messages about
making them seem more successful and they are most likely to be a serious business, this is why I will
use appropriate sub-headings on the front cover. This will appeal to my audience as those people
need have the money or the power, however, others want to be more successful and want to achieve.
Finally, the social status, which I have chosen ABC1 and C2DE. This will appeal to my audience as
they can afford it as they are the most interested in the news about musicians either because they are
interested in becoming one themselves or if they are just interested.
(Who is your audience?
Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc.
Why would your project appeal to this person?)
Legal & Ethical Considerations: For my product, there will be no offensive material for my
magazine as I have and will research information for my articles. It will not restrict any younger
audience to read my magazine spreads as there is no inappropriate context, e.g. swear words. My
magazine will not offend any social groups/religions or ethnicities as I will use appropriate words or
phrases. I will ensure this by proof reading it first and get it checked so then I know if there is any
offensive language within. I will be using the name βEd Sheeranβ as one of the articles are about him
and most likely use an image of him too. Apart from that, there will be no other use of characters,
names or logos etc. My product will be different from other magazines as I will use different colours,
fonts and styles. As I have researched magazines already, this will make it easier to make my own
product different which means I wonβt get sued for copyright. The compliance part of the ASA says
that if I am making an advert then it needs to look like one, by this I will make use of the conventions
such as logos, slogans and images. This is said by the recognition of marketing communications. My
product will not promote dangerous behaviour in children and it will not pressure children to buy my
product. I have got permission off the artist that I have chosen, this is under the privacy section of the
ASA.
(Think about any offensive material you will include,
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it,
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities,
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone,
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs,
Will you product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get sued for copyright
infringement?)
