The document summarizes research conducted with 10 college students through a questionnaire to understand what content would appeal to the target audience of an indie magazine. Key findings from the multiple choice questionnaire include that most respondents preferred bands over solo artists, wanted to see a variety of content like new music and reviews, and a black and red color scheme. This research allows the document author to create a target audience profile and design the magazine based on audience preferences.
1. I have done some audience research to enable me to
know what content my target audience want to see. My
research is primary as I created a questionnaire and
asked 10 college students to complete it. To create my
questionnaire I had to think of specific questions to ask
them including what their age is, and what they’d like
to see in my magazine. I used multiple choice so that
my data would be simple and easy to understand whilst
still providing me with good opinions. With these
results, I can now make a target audience profile and
design my magazine based on the answers I received.
2. bands
solo artists
I asked this question to get a better understanding of what type of
artists my target audience wanted to see featured in my magazine.
From this, I can see that 60% of my audience would mainly prefer
to see bands over solo artists which would make sense as most indie
artists are bands. This shows that my target audience have a good
understanding of indie music and favour bands over solo artists.
Would you prefer to see bands or solo
artists?
3. reviews
gig information
posters
band information
latest trends
indie fashion
new music
I asked this question to get further detail on what kind of content my
target audience would like to see. The overall result was very balanced,
but the most popular feature was new music with 21%. Asking this
question showed me that most people want all of the features and there
isn’t one specific one that they favour over the others. By asking this
question, I know now to feature all of the ideas in my magazine to make
it more appealing to my target audience.
What would you like to see in an indie magazine?
4. black and red
yellow and blue
white and black
I asked this question to see what colour scheme my target audience would
prefer. The results show that nobody opted for yellow and blue, and the
majority voted for black and red. This shows that my target audience would
prefer a darker colour scheme over light and helps to give me more guidance
when deciding the colour scheme of my magazine.
What colour scheme would you prefer to see?
5. part time job
no part time job
I asked this question to help me decide what to price my magazine. From
the results I can see that 60% of my target audience have part time jobs,
which allows me to price my magazine higher as they have an income. This
shows me that my target audience work hard and earn money.
Do you have a part time job?
6. lifestyle
studio
plain
I asked this question so I could understand what kind of background my
audience would want to see on the cover. From the results I can see
that 67% of my target audience would like a background that is
lifestyle related and matches the artists persona/hobbies. This teaches
me that my audience is interested in the artists backgrounds and
enables me to know where to take my main image.
What sort of main image would you
prefer?
7. male
female
both
I asked this to see what gender artists my audience would prefer to see
so that I could know which gender to feature the most of in my
magazine. From the results I can see that 60% of my audience would
like a balanced mix of both. This doesn’t help when choosing what
gender to have on my front cover but overall helps me to know that
they would like to see both genders throughout the magazine.
Would you prefer to see more male or female
artists?
