Essay On Symbolism Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies
Anarchy fallen over the once peaceful land and all but one has returned to their savage ways. In William Golding's, Lord Of The Flies, The character
of Piggy is a symbol of civilization. To commence, Piggy symbolises civilization because of his glasses as the fire is started by thm, and fire is the first
sign key to civilization . Secondly, by insisting the continuation of the rules to be enforced on all of the island, Piggy demonstrates the ideals of
civilization. Finally, Piggy idealises civilization by wanting to advance in technology on the island. In William Golding's, Lord of The Flies,
Piggy symbolises civilization on the island, while others turn to primitive, savage ways. First and foremost, Piggy's glasses are used to start a fire
which shows a sign of civility as fire is the starting point to civilization, with it being the way the boys will return home. During the first meeting,
Ralph addresses the group to say that a fire is needed to go in order to attract attention to the island for a passing boat. The boys then, unsure how
to start a fire, "Ralph moved the lenses back and forth, this way and that, till a glossy white image of the declining sun lay on a piece of rotten
wood. Almost at once a thin trickle of smoke rose up and made him cough"(Golding 56). This shows that because of Piggy being hard of sight, the
boys were able to start a fire and have the ability to return to civilization. Furthermore, due to Piggy's glasses creating the fire, the boys can now

A Rush Of Blood To The Head Analysis
A Rush of Cash, Love, and 9/11 to the Head Coldplay's sophomore album "A Rush of Blood to the Head", harbors many incredible songs, including
the tenth song on the record for which the album is named; therefore, the artists must have wanted to install an emphasis on this particular song. The
album was released in 2002 after the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the song, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" in particular has many interesting
elements pointing towards that event as inspiration. The lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, has said that the song is an homage toJohnny Cash's way
of singing because Martin wanted to sing a song in a low key like that of Cash. A literal analysis of the lyrics interpret a man who is very impulsive,
and he will do anything to keep the woman he loves. "A Rush of Blood to the Head" employs its low key and sad sound as a tribute to Johnny Cash;
meanwhile, the lyrics are so ambiguous that they can be understood as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The band's bass player, Johnny Buckland was deeply influenced by American country music legend, Johnny Cash. Chris Martin admits that after
learning about and appreciating different artists such as Cash and after getting so much criticism, Coldplay just decided not to care what everyone else
thought and to make the music that they wanted to make (Martin). The inspired team then took it upon themselves to make a concerted effort to
conceive a sound similar to the acoustic low–key guitar riffs of Cash. Their devotion towards this iconic music star resulted in the title track, "A Rush
of Blood to the Head" becoming the successful experiment of mixing Cash's one–of–a–kind sound with Coldplay's beautiful lyrics and Chris Martin's

Descriptive Essay About Going To The Beach
It began with a blazing, crackling, smokey fire. Friends and family sat there with a glow from the fire upon us. All of us, Corbin, Charles, my Mom,
my Aunt, and I, sat silently listening to a mixture of the fire, along with ocean. Knowing that the blazing sun would soon set, Corbin, Charles and I
made the decision to go to the beach. The journey taken that evening led me to realize my sense of direction. Us three set out with one main
objective. That main objective was to climb the rocks next to the crashing waves of the receding ocean tide. We left our chairs by the fire and began
our journey with nothing but our phones. Beside our cabin was an old, dusty trail with a large amount of overgrowth. Pushing tree branches out of our
way, passing by various flowers, shrubs, and trees, we made our way down the old warn down path and onto dirt road. We all assumed that road
wouldn't be used due to the fact that it was beginning to be night. However, our thoughts were proven wrong by the moderately dirty truck with
bright headlights shining upon us. We noticed the truck and scrambled to get to the side of the road. Once it had passed we continued towards the
beach. "Look at that sunset," proclaimed Charles. It was the moment when the sun cast a hazy red and orange across the horizon of the dark blue
ocean. We made our way to the sandy beach. It was embedded with thousands of footprints from both visiting campers, as well as the snow white
seagulls. We walked along the beach with the waves nearly get us wet, passing drift wood and heaps of seaweed. The only sounds heard were the
crashing wave of the ocean and occasional cawing of seagulls. We had made it to the jagged rocks with very little daylight to spare. "So much for
the sunset," mumbled Cobin. "I am willing to bet there will be one tomorrow," I chuckle. We each hoist ourselves onto the rocks and walk. We
took note of the dim light casting over the dark ocean, which is visible as far as the eye can see. If barefoot, this massive rock can be very hard on
your feet. We saw very little of the seagulls, and none of the hiding crabs. We had made it and there was silence. The full moon was a magnificent sight
to be seen in combination with the

Themes In Literature : 'Introduction To Literature'
What is a theme? A theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition. Several themes were covered within
"Introduction to Literature" such as good versus evil, depression and self–harm. However, a theme that was often showcased was misery. Misery is a
state of feeling great distress or discomfort of mind or body. There are numerous stories within the book that displayed the characters' life which
caused misery. I believe this theme is popular due to it being relatable to the audience and today's society. By the stories within "Introduction to
Literature" being relatable, it allows its audience to feel better about their life by showing them how to cope with the problems they are facing in their
everyday lives. First, "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant" is about a woman named Mathilde Loisel who desires a wealthy lifestyle. One day
Mathilde's husband returned home with an invitation to a party. However, Mathilde was upset because she did not have an extravagant dress to
wear so her husband offered to buy her a dress that she will feel beautiful in (486). Once the day of the party arrived, Mathilde decided to borrow a
diamond necklace from a friend. After she left the party she noticed that the necklace was missing. When she replaced the necklace the couple spent
the next ten years of their life working hard to repay their debt. One day Mathilde recognizes her friend at the park and begins to explain her problems

Strange Fruit Ap Language
Billie Holiday 's renditions of the poem "Strange Fruit" is what most listeners will hear when they search up the song. Her 1956 version of the song
has inspired many artists, such as Cassandra Willson, to make their own rendition of the poem that created by Abel Meeropol. Both renditions focus
on the lynchings in the south, but how they play it changes the character of the song. The rhythm of this song is what distinguishes these two
renditions the most. In Mrs. Holiday's rendition, her voice is the rhythmic part of the song since the instruments are not played in a repeated pattern.
The poem is written in an odd number of syllables and she usually sings and then pauses after saying five syllables. In some stanzas, she sings four
syllables and then holds the last syllable in order to make it sound like five syllables so the rhythm can still have its structure.... Show more content on

Holiday uses her voice to keep the song in rhythm, Mrs. Willson took an instrumental approach to keep track of time. A heavy string instrument is
used to keep the flow of the song. Its patterns are usually two, low notes, followed by a smack of the string instrument's body and then two high
notes. She must the must have made the song's meter into five beats since Ms. Holiday sang the song at a pattern of five syllables. This is how
Mrs. Wilson might have paid homage to Mrs. Holiday's rendition. Their vocal phrasing is a similarity between the song's renditions. In both versions,
they sing each stanza slowly, their pitch is deep and stretches their voices when they sing a lyric that will rhythm to a word on the next stanza. At the
end of the stanza, they start to speed up their singing, hit a higher pitch and stretches the last lyrical syllable a couple of seconds longer. This pattern
is repeated in all of the verses, but the last verse emphasizes more on the higher notes and stretching the of the last lyrics since they want to make song

Review Of Billie Holiday's Song 'Strange Fruit'
Protest Music Assignment For this assignment, I chose the song "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. She first performed this song in 1939, several
years after the Civil War took place, but before the end of the Jim Crow South. Billie Holiday was born in the North, which was more supportive of
equality between the races, but she was African American, and this was something that affected her life, even if she did not live in the South. This
song is a protest song, subtle as it may be, against lynching and the Jim Crow Laws. It describes the lynching, and what can be seen after this deed is
performed. Using imagery and metaphors, she demonstrates the wrongs of the Jim Crow South and lynching. This song was inducted into the Grammy
Hall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the very first line of the song states "Southern trees bear strange fruit", referring to the men being lynched to strange fruit. They are
hanging from the tree, and they are strange fruit because that is not something that a tree produces. This however is a subtle metaphor for this action.
A few lines down, she sings "Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze", which is clearly about lynching. After this, Billie's song goes, "Scent of
magnolias, sweet and fresh. Then the sudden smell of burning flesh", which shows a contrast between the peace and calm, and then the abrupt
disruption of nature by the white men. She is obviously putting the smell in a negative light by describing the sweet flowers first, and how the
overbearing smell disturbed it. The final important line is "Here is fruit for the crows to pluck", which is referring to the Jim Crow South and the
white men that take part in the lynching. They literally pick out someone that they do not like just because of the color of their skin and they lynch
them. Billie Holiday's song ends with "here is a strange and bitter crop", which still compares African American men to crops that have been picked
(lynched), and after that they are just left there and no one gives another thought about

The, Pastel Blues, By Nina Simone
Nina Simone's 8th studio album, Pastel Blues, is an album featuring a fusion of sistering genres: blues, jazz, soul, folk, and gospel. Nina, being the
brilliant arranger she was, is known for her ability to blend these genres into her signature sound. A sound most struggle to classify due to its avant
garde nature. She got her start in music by playing the piano in church. One evening her church had a recital where her talents were recognised.
Which lead to her starting piano lessons. Nina and her teacher's goal was for her to become the first black classical pianist. However after being
rejected from school for being black, her dream died and she had to pick up jobs at clubs playing piano and later singing. From there she never stopped
singing. As her fame grew in pop music she became more depressed. Later in her life she discovered she was riddled with mental illness. Manic
depression being one of these illness.
Nina Simone was a troubled woman but she was a gifted one. Simone was often looked at as difficult while others would say she was just extremely
honest. She was a very controversial character in history along being a strong political figure. She was one of the well known civil rights activist
along Lorraine Hansberry, Dr. King, and Malcolm X. She made it known that she was not non–violent. When she met Dr. King for the first time, she
walked up to him and said "I'm not non–violent!" He replied, kind of ticked, saying "That 's okay sister. You don't have to be!"

I am Philip Roth. I had reason recently to read for the first time the Wikipedia entry discussing my novel "The Human Stain." The entry contains a
serious misstatement that I would like to ask to have removed. This item entered Wikipedia not from the world of truthfulness but from the babble of
literary gossip–there is no truth in it at all.
Yet when, through an official interlocutor, I recently petitionedWikipedia to delete this misstatement, along with two others, my interlocutor was told
by the "English Wikipedia Administrator"–in a letter dated August 25th and addressed to my interlocutor–that I, Roth, was not a credible source: "I

A witch hunt ensued during the following months from which Professor Tumin–rather like Professor Silk in "The Human Stain"–emerged blameless but
only after he had to provide a number of lengthy depositions declaring himself innocent of the charge of hate speech.
A myriad of ironies, comical and grave, abounded, as Mel had first come to nationwide prominence among sociologists, urban organizers, civil–rights
activists, and liberal politicians with the 1959 publication of his groundbreaking sociological study "Desegregation: Resistance and Readiness," and
then, in 1967, with "Social Stratification: The Forms and Functions of Inequality," which soon became a standard sociological text. Moreover, before
coming to Princeton, he had been director of the Mayor's Commission on Race Relations, in Detroit. Upon his death, in 1995, the headline above his
New York Times obituary read "MELVIN M. TUMIN, 75, SPECIALIST IN RACE RELATIONS."
But none of these credentials counted for much when the powers of the moment sought to take down Professor Tumin from his high academic post for
no reason at all, much as Professor Silk is taken down in "The Human Stain."

Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
In Lord of the Flies, a group of teenage boys is faced with the tremendous obstacle of being stranded on an island after their plane had unfortunately
crashed. To make matters worse, the eldest of the group is only twelve years old. They are now faced with the task of establishing roles for
everyone to ensure that their time on the island went a smooth as possible, and that they were rescued as soon as possible. By establishing roles
amongst the group, not everyone was able to be assigned their desired role, so naturally some of the boys were upset. This story provided a fairly
accurate depiction of how it could possibly be when establishing a civilization in real life. Fairly shortly after the boy's plane crashed, everyone was
assigned roles, and the voted leader of them all was Ralph. Ralph was really wise beyond his years, especially in comparison to many of the other
boys on the island, and really had his priorities straight. Ralph's main concern was survival and order amongst the group, along with that came food
and most importantly a signal fire big enough for passing boats to notice. One major quote from the book showing Ralph's leadership came early on,
"They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough to be a link with the adult world of authority."(Golding
50) This quote shows how Ralph had authority of the group in the beginning, and when he spoke they listened. Many of the other boys were more
concerned with childish

The Death and Life of Great American Cities Analysis
The Death and Life of Great American Cities
The Conditions for City Diversity analysis
Part two of Death and Life explains several conditions for city diversity based on the observations of different American cities and discusses in depth
the four factors that Jacobs believe are critical for the development of a city. The basis for generating diversity lies in these conditions, and cannot be
secludedly achieved by planning and designing. This part lays out the foundation and is the basis for the rest of the book. It shows urban planning and
many possible remedies for creating equal diversity, and studies why these are not applied and the effects of it not being so.
These four conditions state that internal parts must provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these four conditions she diagnoses why cities fail at equal diversity, and how it could be formulated.
Primary functions are those who bring people to specific places, to ensure safety in regions and from economic views such as people passing by shops
to ensure incomes in certain places. Jane Jacobs underlines the importance of time spread, to create balance in the district. The need of short blocks
is described with the example of Manhattan, where the use of long blocks segregate walking citizens and isolate people socially as well as
economically. She argues that frequent streets and short blocks are more valuable since they provide cross–use of the streets. Most shops are dependant
on people passing by each day, and short blocks could control the passings and create a diverse and balanced income for them.
The mixture of buildings of different conditions are necessary to public life because it otherwise would be neither interesting nor fascinating. But the
main reasons are because they ensure low rent yields, encouraging the growth of small enterprises. Large swatches of new construction would only
prevent income since not many would afford it, and the demand for it would not be as large as it would need to be.
Equal diversity created by a dense concentration of people is a necessity, since the other factors will have no effect if this condition is not

Blood On The Leaves Interpretation
Kanye West has proven himself over time that he is much more than just a producer. With each new album he releases, he constantly pushes the
boundaries of music influencing artist across all genres. Kanye has an ever evolving sound that changes almost year to year. Kanye West's Yeezus
album is an album that takes a much darker and more minimalist turn in his discography. This approach to music makes Yeezus a much harder album
to listen through because it is not filled with nice, polished sounds. Having the album made this way makes us look over what the message of a song
and the album are. Among many rough songs one the most popular on the album was Blood on the Leaves. Blood on the Leaves samples from another
song called Strange Fruit sung by Nina Simone which is a very political song talking about gruesome lynchings that happened before and at the turn of
the century. With help from the sample, West uses the pain of lynching and drug abuse to compare with the break ups he goes through.
The instrumental of the song starts off very slow at the beginning we can hear a piano in the background that slowly begins to play. Over this soft
piano sound we hear Nina Simone break through. She sets us up with an interesting imagery of strange fruit hanging. But she doesn't get to the part
that they are bodies just yet. The listener is confused by exactly what she means by the meaning of "strange fruit" since there is no context of what she
is referencing inside of the song. Almost

Is Markt at risk and liable to NeemMiracle with respect to Trade Mark infringement, passing off, misleading or deceptive conduct?
No Trade Mark infringement for two reasons;
a)The mark or 'get up' being used by Markt only similar in colour and not necessarily name, the word 'neem' may be argued to be descriptive. and
b)NeemMiracle has not registered the trademark in either Australia or New Zealand.
There may be a case for passing off under common law and/or misleading and deceptive conduct under S 18 ACL . An action in passing off deals
only with misrepresentation, for an action in passing off to be successful we can refer to the "classical trinity". In the Jiff Lemon Case Lord Oliver
set out three tests for an action in passing off to be met. 'The "classical trinity" has been used as a touchstone for passing off. '
It can be argued that the 'getup' of the Mira–Neem product(s) is adopting a similar style or mark to NeemMiracle with respect to choice of colour, font
and naming of the product; further argued that the confusing labelling of the product without any disclaimer may misrepresent the Mira–Neem product
as part of the products currently produced and marketed by NeemMiracle.

Developing An Advanced Modern Distributed Networking System
Abstract – Developing an advanced modern distributed networking system is very difficult and hard to manage as they operate over different
environments, hence they have little control over the system and the environment in which they execute. The hardware and software resources in these
networks may fail and become malicious unexpectedly. In these scenarios redundancy based reliability techniques can help manage such failures. But
when the network is faced with dynamic and unpredictable resources and also there are chances of hackers and attackers to easily enter the network, in
these situations the system or the network reliability can still fluctuate greatly. In order to tackle these kind of situations we need to come up with some

Also if there is a desired increase in the system's reliability, then iterative redundancy achieves this reliability by using least resources possible. Iterative
redundancy is also good in handling Byzantine threat model, which is the common threat model in most of the distributed networks. Later in this paper
we formally prove iterative redundancy's self–adaption, efficiency and optimality properties. Then we use discrete event simulation; BIONIC and
XDEVS to evaluate iterative redundancy against the existing redundancy based models. At the end we will be contributing on top of this paper, in
order to eliminate some of the limitations in iterative redundancy and to make this technique much better. We will be seeing that the two assumptions
made in this paper will be contradicting in the real world example. To tackle these limitations, we will be presenting Master–Slave model and also
Hand–shake mechanism to finally, we will be proposing a redundancy based technique known as Physical Redundancy, in which we are using active
replication of the nodes and adding the voters in order to improve the reliability of the network at the node level. With this the error will be ruled out
and the network will act like there was no failure. Keywords: Redundancy, reliability, fault–tolerance, iterative redundancy,

Women In 1800s
The 1800s served as a turning point for the role of women in society. Nearing the end of the century, the idea that women should not work outside the
home began to be challenged, and women started to hold jobs of their own (Fischer et al., 2000). Great opportunity was given to unmarried women, as
they gained independence in living apart from their families (Fischer et al., 2000). Women began to fight for their independence, opposing the idea of
only being known as a housewife. Kate Chopin was among the individuals who challenged what the role of women in society was during the late
1800s. Chopin shares her perspective in her two short stories, "The Story of an Hour" and "The Storm." In "The Story of an Hour," the main ... Show

Mrs. Mallard's heart trouble is symbolic of her broken relationship with her husband, Brently. Of all the possible health issues that Mrs. Mallard
could have been battling, it is heart trouble that she if faced with. It is noted that Josephine speaks "in broken sentences; veiled hints" (Chopin,
"The Story"), so that the news of Brently's death is revealed to Mrs. Mallard as carefully as possible. However, the news of her husband's death

independence upon seeing Brently walk through the front door. Chopin shares: "When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease – of joy

I Am A Furitive From A Chain Gang Analysis
I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang Response Paper #8
I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang is a film directed by Mervyn LeRoy, from 1932. The film is about a soldier, James Allen, who returns home from
WWI with the aspiration to be an engineer. Unfortunately, his family wanted him to return to his prewar job, working at a factory. James decides to
travel around the United States looking for a job and gets mixed up with the wrong person, which lands him on a chain gang. Throughout the film,
various metallic sounds can be heard. One example, of metallic sounds in the film, is the pickaxe clanking as the calendar changes. A second example
of metallic sounds in the film is the triangular bell that the wardens of the chain gang use to wake up the prisoners. A third example of metallic sounds
in the film is the warden checking all the prisoner's chains after the end of the workday. A fourth example of metallic sounds in the film is the clanking
of the pickaxe, while James is working for the Tri–state engineering company in Chicago. Firstly, the clanking of the pickaxe hitting the rocks is in
sync with the calendar changing. Every clank coincides with the calendar flipping to the next month. The calendar changing along with the clanking
of the pickaxe can be seen at least twice in the film. The first time it can be seen is after James talks to his friend about escaping. His friend tells him
that, he can plan an escape, but wait a year or two to act on the plan. The second time the

Leadership : A Successful Leader
Leadership isn't easy. In the moments of push and pull and on the spot decision making, all of the responsibility and possible repercussions of a
bad spur of the moment decision rests on a leaders shoulder. It can be overwhelming, stressful, and even intimidating at times. At what point do I
know that I am and will continue to be a successful leader? That can be a difficult question for one to answer, because success, as I have learned, is
different to everyone. A great place to begin is to point out all of the things I am doing wrong as a leader. After the reading and understanding of
"What Got You Here Won't Get You There", I've come to learn I have a few of the "bad habits" the author pointed out. It's a little too easy to look

most guilty of are: Passing judgement, Starting with NO, BUT, HOWEVER, Failing to give proper recognition, Not listening, and Passing the buck

that is toxic to my leadership skills. I must not only point out and take responsibility for these habits, but it is also important to know how they
negatively affect others around me and how I can easily change them with small behavior adjustments. It's definitely always easier to pass judgement on

Millions Danny Hales Essay
In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex
character interesting as he is still grieving for his mother's tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of thinking
and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His way of thinking has a powerful awareness of right from
wrong – but throughout the movie he gets it jumbled up a bit...
The film is set during the changing of all European currencies to a single currency – the Euro. Due to this, we can see that money is going to take a
significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his family) are dealing with the repercussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows this in the opening scene, the two boys
delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their bikes. As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing
a blue shirt which can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is normally deciphered as hatred or
anger. However under Anthony's red jacket, we can see that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director's purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that
Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with annoyance towards the end of
the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother.
Due to this, we see him whispering a angry hushed tone "Is that what you want? Her in there with him, instead of Mum?". Personally, this is quite
understandable because I know that it is extremely difficult to be going through the stages of grief after someone–who–is–close–to–you's death. This
could link back to my first paragraph – Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with Damian by trying to set a good example by moving on.
Anthony struggling through the hardships may also be why he is pulled in by tempting 'money from

The Game at the Arena Essay
Standing here, in this arena that is one hundred times larger than my home, I feel like a needle in a haystack. So many people surrounding me it's
like I'm one grain of sand in a whole ocean. The people around the arena form a black and yellow checker board. Their clothing meshes together and
looks like a throw. Smelling the concession stand makes me feel like a starving child. The aroma of hotdogs and Italian sausage reminds me of a back
yard grill. The smell of melted cheese on nachos makes my stomach growl wishing I had some. I can taste the pretzels as a man and child walk by me

out in the glare of the stadium lights. The field has a fresh mowed look, and the screens are bright as the North Star. As the lady starts to sing the
National Anthem, the crowd falls do a dead silent, placing their hands on their chest and mouthing the words along with her. The mass of people
standing in the arena look as if they are mannequins strategically placed for a photo. The lady finishes singing and the crowd resumes their jet like

Creative Writing: Revolting
The man she watches controls the reality. Controls the very threads of existence, weaves his way through to create something bigger than him. It's
sickening, really. Revolting is a better word for it. For some reason she keeps watching him, though. He has small habits that are hard for the eye to

Flaneur
The flaneur as is he is typically portrayed is a man set apart from the mindless masses of people who engulf him; he becomes the eyes and ears through
which the reader receives seemingly objective information about the various humans in these crowds. The flaneur typically associates these passing
faces with mammoth concepts such as death and existential loneliness in urban environments. Poe critiques the position of the flaneur in his short story
"The Man of the Crowd" by ultimately revealing that human subjectivity is inalienable, and even if it were not it is nonetheless still a folly to suggest
that humanity can be neatly divided into only so many categories, as our narrator attempts to do. The flaneur in "Man of the Crowd" presents himself ...

Thus, when Poe's flaneur presses his "brow to the glass" (pg. 5) it is likely that he is looking into his own visage in the reflection of the window as
well as at the crowds outside. This, incidentally, is when the titular man of the crowd comes into existence. The man, Poe's flaneur relays, imparts a
sense of "vast mental power, of caution, of pernuriousness, of avarice, of coolness, of malice, of bloodthirstiness, of triumph, of merriment, of
excessive terror, of intense– of supreme despair" (pg. 5). The reader cannot be sure as to which of these traits belong to the man in the crowd, and
which belong to the invalid flaneur, who is at that moment gazing into a reflection of his very own face. However, the general strangeness of the
man in the crowd is obvious, for he has both "a diamond and a dagger" (pg. 6) along with ragged clothing and no ultimate aim to his wanderings. It is
this very inability of the narrator to neatly place the old man in one of his predetermined categories that makes the idea of a chase so compelling to

Symbolism In 'Strange Fruit By Abel Meeropol And The Flowers'
Wherever there is difference, conflict often follows in pursuit. It is evident that this fact has been present throughout humanity's history since the
beginning of time. After thousands of years, it should be exceedingly obvious of what is causing the great divide between human beings. Yet, even with
so many signs, the human population is often oblivious to the discrimination many other individuals face. For those who are aware, many remain
hesitant to help and are even willing to turn a blind eye to such iniquity. Within the written pieces "Strange Fruit" byAbel Meeropol and "The Flowers"
by Alice Walker, this situation is approached in different styles through the utilization of several literary devices. However, "Strange Fruit" exhibits...

This is shown through a blend of sickening and tranquil imagery as well as parallel structure. For instance, when describing the strange fruit and its
setting, the narrator describes "[A] Pastoral scene of the gallant South, The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth" (5–6). The two scenes presented to the
reader are immensely contrasting, to the point that it is unsettling. However, the sentence's structure makes it seem as if such atrocities are an element
of what makes the South so gallant and peaceful, further hinting at the South's acceptance of prejudice as part of its culture. In continuation with the
description of the fruit, the author describes it as being "for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for the sun to rot, for the
tree to drop" (9–11). The parallel structure of the fruit being incessantly acted upon by another force is heavily repeated throughout the third stanza.
Not only does this give the tone that this process has been occurring long enough to the point of becoming almost somewhat of a tradition, but it also
shows the fruit, the person, being bruised over and over again until it becomes absolutely unprofitable. People may be unwilling to help because of the
benefits and pride that comes with being able to put

Strange Fruit Poem Analysis
In the music video/song "Strange Fruit", the phrase strange fruit doesn't really refer to a fruit that is strange. It actually refers to people being
lynched and hanging from trees. More specifically, the term strange fruit applies to the lynching of African Americans. This song was performed by
Billie Holiday in 1939 at the Cafe Society in New York. The music video was actually a recorded performance from 1959. The song was written and
performed because the purpose of was to raise awareness and fight against African American lynching because during that time, African Americans
were being discriminated and abused. Billie Holiday in the music video/song "Strange Fruit" displays logos through context and imagery, pathos
through her sorrowful tone and facial expressions, and lastly, ethos because she won many awards during her career in singing, and Strange Fruit
is one of them. The lyrics of the song have contains a handful of imagery describing African Americans being lynched. For example, "Blood on the
leaves and blood on the root", is a very descriptive example and puts an image in your mind of seeing a tree with African Americans hanging with
blood dripping from their bodies (genius.com). This line makes it seem like the blood that is dripping from the people hanging is feeding the
tree's root, and this could symbolize growth because America was a growing country back then and still is today. Back then, African Americans
were physically and mentally abused, and the point of the song was to put an end to that and it did eventually. Today, African Americans are still
being discriminated for job opportunities because of stereotypes people made that make African Americans look bad. Throughout the course of
time, we did make changes, which relates to the line, "Blood on the leaves and blood on the root". Another line the depicts a very cruel image is,
"Here is fruit for crows to pluck" (genius.com) This line has a very dark meaning and image because crows always symbolize evil and darkness. The
fact that this line puts a picture of bodies being devoured by crows in your mind, proves that Holiday uses very strong imagery in the context of
Strange Fruit. From these two lines from the song, we learned that

Passing Strange Analysis
Passing Strange is a Broadway production that explores the life journey of Youth, a brave young man, who is doing the impossible to achieve his
dream. At first he is presented as a shy guy, who does not have enough courage to declare what he desires. His mother is the one that worries about
his life and his feelings, because she wants the best for her son. However, Youth decides to go on a journey far away from his mother, from his old
lifestyle, far way from everything. He travels to foreign lands, meets new and interesting people; he is living the dream. Everything looks unreal,
because indeed it is. Youth forgets that only love is real and everything else without love is empty. When he recalls what love is, it is already too late

that my family was always supporting me and I was the one that did not want to open up, I was the one creating my own fears, when everything
around me was more than beautiful. When I became a teenager, exactly like Youth, I wanted to escape and go to a better place. I was wishing that
somewhere far way would be much more interesting and I would find what I was looking for. Now, couple of years later, I am far way, in a
foreign land, and my wishes have became reality. Now, when I have all that I want, I realize that everything has its price. I am here, I am achieving
my goals, but something is missing. It feels unrealistic to search for something that you have already had before. I guess, I needed to travel so far

The Most Iconic Civil Rights Movement Influencers Of All...
To begin my essay, I would like to start off with arguably the most iconic civil rights movement influencers of all time, Billie Holiday. Eleanora
Fagan was born on April 7, 1915 and is from the "Quaker City" formally known as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eleanora childhood could be best
described as unsteady, at times. During these trying points in her life, Eleanora enjoyed singing along to records and escape the harsh reality of her

A Stranger Essay : Kindness To A Stranger
Kindness to a Stranger
It was a chilly evening in Southern Virginia many years ago. There was the old man whose beards were glazed by the winter's frost, as he
hopelessly waited for a ride across the river. Due to the frigid north wind, his body was numb and stiff. Edward, who was passing by saw this
desperate old man, who looked so confused and helpless. He asked the old man, "what are you doing here at this late hour?" The freezing man
answered, "I am waiting for a ride to take me home." Edward took some time with the old man, as they waited for a ride to take him to the next side
of the river. The wait seemed endless and ineffective. However, they both heard the faint, steady rhythm of approaching hooves dashing along the icy
path. Anxiously, the old man and Edwin watched as several riders curved the bend. He let the first onepass without seeking attention from him.
Apparently, Edward was very annoyed, asking him the reason for not stopping the passing horseman. The man kept quiet as he checked out on
whether there was another one coming. The another one passed by, followed by other two. When Edward saw that the old man was not using any
effort to seek help from either of the riders, he was tired and decided to leave the old man alone.

Essay on The Personality of Othello
The Personality of Othello
Othello's speech to Brabantio and the Duke in Act 1, Scene 3 is of major importance in describing Othello's personality. This long speech, found in
lines 149 to 196, shows Othello for the first time as a person with depth and less as a soldier. This speech is important to the book as a whole because
it is a testimony to the strength of the love between Othello and Desdemona, which will later play a major role in the plot. It is also one of the first
times that we see Othello trying to influence his audience with his words. The speech given by Othello is intended to convince Brabantio that
Desdemona is with him willfully, and not by "spells and medicines bought of montebanks" (line 74).

And bade me, if I had a friend that loved her,
I should but teach him how to tell my story,
And that would woo her. Upon this hint I spake.
She loved me for the dangers I had passed,

To influence his audience, Othello uses logic as well as an entrancing tone that surprises and allures his audience of Brabantio and the duke. Othello
offers to tell his story, despite his discomfort with words. Othello tells the men that, "Rude am I in my speech, and little blessed with the soft phrase
of peace. . . and therefore little shall I grace my cause in speaking for myself." (lines 96–104) This preview to his speech gives the men a feeling that
he's going to be rough and unlearned when he talks, and definitely unworthy of Desdemona. This idea is quickly dismissed when he does begin to talk,
almost magically, and it completely puts Othello in a good light. His tone, imagery, and diction all add to the

Day At School : The First Day Of School
It was particularly warm that September, warmer than most autumn days, the leaves were beginning to change into a brilliant array of reds, and
oranges, and yellows. They fell to the ground, turning the once grey cement of the sidewalks into pathways full of leaves and full of color. The sun

filled the room, three rows across and 3 rows deep, with two chairs to each table. A dirty fish tank was to my right, giving off a slightly unpleasant
odor. He could have at least cleaned it for the first day of school perhaps. Students began piling in, shuffling to their seats and every chair, passing me
by. I could hear everyone reconnecting, chatter echoed through the room, muttered stories of what they did this past summer. I figured, if I just sit
completely still and quiet, maybe they won't even know I'm here.

Miss Emily Character Analysis
he Misunderstood, Monumental, Murderer, Miss Emily
Viewed by the people in her town as a monument and a tradition of the town, Miss Emily represents the past way of living trying to stand firm in an
ear changing society. While she is seen as a statuesque figure the townspeople still do not understand her and they show pity towards her, little did
they know what she was hiding in her home. Miss Emily grew up in a rich family, she was raised at a higher standard than others and her home is
described as a large plantation home that once stood for wealth and power, but now is seen as a dilapidated and an eye sore. Emily experienced great
loss when her father passed away and even kept his body for three days after he passed, which no one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he passed Emily was not sure what to do, because she had lost the structure and the social class she had lived her whole life in. This cause some
serious issues for her, as it would anyone. When Homer Barron, a Yankee who was there on work and a sort of odd character, started spending time
with her the town people thought it was odd, but they all thought they would be married. This gave Emily the chance to have a companion and
another man in her life to sort of give her purpose. When Homer decided to go Miss Emily saw this as another loss and she was already scarred from
the loss of her father that this loss would be too much to bare. She murdered Homer using arsenic and kept his corpse in the bed. She had been
abandoned by everyone in the town and her family, and the only family she had ever known was gone, Miss Emily had a very lonely life. While
what she did to Homer and keeping his corpse may seem insane to us in her mind it was making sure she was not left alone again. She found
comfort in the corpse because she had something there with her and yes she probably had mental issues. but no one is supposed to be alone in life
and the corpse gave her companionship. The story ends by saying " We saw a long strand of iron gray hair." this is a symbol of the comfort she took in
having his body with her. Miss Emily Grierson died a lonely woman who sought comfort in the corpse of a man who tried to leave her. While many
may view her as "insane" or crazy i believe

Analyzing The Poem 'Strange Fruit'
"Strange Fruit" Messages can travel through art in any form. The message hidden in "Strange Fruit" started as a disturbing photograph of a lynching
that was taken in 1930. Decades later, a high school teacher named Abel Meeropol decided to transpose the feelings the photo evoked and wrote a
poem that uses an eerie metaphor to convey those feelings. Then a song was created using the poem. After it was sung by the famous singer, Billie
Holiday, the world heard the message that started with a simple photo. The image that the original poem was based on was a lynching in Marion,
Indiana, of two young black men. "Strange Fruit" is a captivating poem that was written by Abel Meeropol and published in 1937. This poem and song
uses literary devices and stirring language to induce strong feelings of grief and horror in the reader. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grotesque poem is told from the perspective of someone observing the bodies, or "fruit", hanging from the trees. Abel Meeropol wrote the
poem because he was disturbed by a photo he saw of the Marion, Indiana lynchings. The black and white photo of two savaged bodies hanging from
a tree with a crowd standing below them posing and pointing up at the limp carcasses is a sick image that makes us question the humanity of those
who could commit such a horrendous crime and feel no remorse. "Meeropol once said the photograph 'haunted' him 'for days.'" (Blair). The song
conveys the emotions of the original poem, and Billie Holiday expresses pain and grief in her rendition. "When Holiday decided to sing "Strange
Fruit," the song reached millions of people" (Blair). If Holiday had not sung this song, it is likely that the poem would not be so well known

Essay On Symbolism Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies

  • 1. Essay On Symbolism Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies Anarchy fallen over the once peaceful land and all but one has returned to their savage ways. In William Golding's, Lord Of The Flies, The character of Piggy is a symbol of civilization. To commence, Piggy symbolises civilization because of his glasses as the fire is started by thm, and fire is the first sign key to civilization . Secondly, by insisting the continuation of the rules to be enforced on all of the island, Piggy demonstrates the ideals of civilization. Finally, Piggy idealises civilization by wanting to advance in technology on the island. In William Golding's, Lord of The Flies, Piggy symbolises civilization on the island, while others turn to primitive, savage ways. First and foremost, Piggy's glasses are used to start a fire which shows a sign of civility as fire is the starting point to civilization, with it being the way the boys will return home. During the first meeting, Ralph addresses the group to say that a fire is needed to go in order to attract attention to the island for a passing boat. The boys then, unsure how to start a fire, "Ralph moved the lenses back and forth, this way and that, till a glossy white image of the declining sun lay on a piece of rotten wood. Almost at once a thin trickle of smoke rose up and made him cough"(Golding 56). This shows that because of Piggy being hard of sight, the boys were able to start a fire and have the ability to return to civilization. Furthermore, due to Piggy's glasses creating the fire, the boys can now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Rush Of Blood To The Head Analysis A Rush of Cash, Love, and 9/11 to the Head Coldplay's sophomore album "A Rush of Blood to the Head", harbors many incredible songs, including the tenth song on the record for which the album is named; therefore, the artists must have wanted to install an emphasis on this particular song. The album was released in 2002 after the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the song, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" in particular has many interesting elements pointing towards that event as inspiration. The lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, has said that the song is an homage toJohnny Cash's way of singing because Martin wanted to sing a song in a low key like that of Cash. A literal analysis of the lyrics interpret a man who is very impulsive, and he will do anything to keep the woman he loves. "A Rush of Blood to the Head" employs its low key and sad sound as a tribute to Johnny Cash; meanwhile, the lyrics are so ambiguous that they can be understood as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The band's bass player, Johnny Buckland was deeply influenced by American country music legend, Johnny Cash. Chris Martin admits that after learning about and appreciating different artists such as Cash and after getting so much criticism, Coldplay just decided not to care what everyone else thought and to make the music that they wanted to make (Martin). The inspired team then took it upon themselves to make a concerted effort to conceive a sound similar to the acoustic low–key guitar riffs of Cash. Their devotion towards this iconic music star resulted in the title track, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" becoming the successful experiment of mixing Cash's one–of–a–kind sound with Coldplay's beautiful lyrics and Chris Martin's steady, fragile, and falsetto ... • 3. Descriptive Essay About Going To The Beach It began with a blazing, crackling, smokey fire. Friends and family sat there with a glow from the fire upon us. All of us, Corbin, Charles, my Mom, my Aunt, and I, sat silently listening to a mixture of the fire, along with ocean. Knowing that the blazing sun would soon set, Corbin, Charles and I made the decision to go to the beach. The journey taken that evening led me to realize my sense of direction. Us three set out with one main objective. That main objective was to climb the rocks next to the crashing waves of the receding ocean tide. We left our chairs by the fire and began our journey with nothing but our phones. Beside our cabin was an old, dusty trail with a large amount of overgrowth. Pushing tree branches out of our way, passing by various flowers, shrubs, and trees, we made our way down the old warn down path and onto dirt road. We all assumed that road wouldn't be used due to the fact that it was beginning to be night. However, our thoughts were proven wrong by the moderately dirty truck with bright headlights shining upon us. We noticed the truck and scrambled to get to the side of the road. Once it had passed we continued towards the beach. "Look at that sunset," proclaimed Charles. It was the moment when the sun cast a hazy red and orange across the horizon of the dark blue ocean. We made our way to the sandy beach. It was embedded with thousands of footprints from both visiting campers, as well as the snow white seagulls. We walked along the beach with the waves nearly get us wet, passing drift wood and heaps of seaweed. The only sounds heard were the crashing wave of the ocean and occasional cawing of seagulls. We had made it to the jagged rocks with very little daylight to spare. "So much for the sunset," mumbled Cobin. "I am willing to bet there will be one tomorrow," I chuckle. We each hoist ourselves onto the rocks and walk. We took note of the dim light casting over the dark ocean, which is visible as far as the eye can see. If barefoot, this massive rock can be very hard on your feet. We saw very little of the seagulls, and none of the hiding crabs. We had made it and there was silence. The full moon was a magnificent sight to be seen in combination with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Themes In Literature : 'Introduction To Literature' What is a theme? A theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition. Several themes were covered within "Introduction to Literature" such as good versus evil, depression and self–harm. However, a theme that was often showcased was misery. Misery is a state of feeling great distress or discomfort of mind or body. There are numerous stories within the book that displayed the characters' life which caused misery. I believe this theme is popular due to it being relatable to the audience and today's society. By the stories within "Introduction to Literature" being relatable, it allows its audience to feel better about their life by showing them how to cope with the problems they are facing in their everyday lives. First, "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant" is about a woman named Mathilde Loisel who desires a wealthy lifestyle. One day Mathilde's husband returned home with an invitation to a party. However, Mathilde was upset because she did not have an extravagant dress to wear so her husband offered to buy her a dress that she will feel beautiful in (486). Once the day of the party arrived, Mathilde decided to borrow a diamond necklace from a friend. After she left the party she noticed that the necklace was missing. When she replaced the necklace the couple spent the next ten years of their life working hard to repay their debt. One day Mathilde recognizes her friend at the park and begins to explain her problems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Strange Fruit Ap Language Billie Holiday 's renditions of the poem "Strange Fruit" is what most listeners will hear when they search up the song. Her 1956 version of the song has inspired many artists, such as Cassandra Willson, to make their own rendition of the poem that created by Abel Meeropol. Both renditions focus on the lynchings in the south, but how they play it changes the character of the song. The rhythm of this song is what distinguishes these two renditions the most. In Mrs. Holiday's rendition, her voice is the rhythmic part of the song since the instruments are not played in a repeated pattern. The poem is written in an odd number of syllables and she usually sings and then pauses after saying five syllables. In some stanzas, she sings four syllables and then holds the last syllable in order to make it sound like five syllables so the rhythm can still have its structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holiday uses her voice to keep the song in rhythm, Mrs. Willson took an instrumental approach to keep track of time. A heavy string instrument is used to keep the flow of the song. Its patterns are usually two, low notes, followed by a smack of the string instrument's body and then two high notes. She must the must have made the song's meter into five beats since Ms. Holiday sang the song at a pattern of five syllables. This is how Mrs. Wilson might have paid homage to Mrs. Holiday's rendition. Their vocal phrasing is a similarity between the song's renditions. In both versions, they sing each stanza slowly, their pitch is deep and stretches their voices when they sing a lyric that will rhythm to a word on the next stanza. At the end of the stanza, they start to speed up their singing, hit a higher pitch and stretches the last lyrical syllable a couple of seconds longer. This pattern is repeated in all of the verses, but the last verse emphasizes more on the higher notes and stretching the of the last lyrics since they want to make song end on a ... • 6. Review Of Billie Holiday's Song 'Strange Fruit' Protest Music Assignment For this assignment, I chose the song "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. She first performed this song in 1939, several years after the Civil War took place, but before the end of the Jim Crow South. Billie Holiday was born in the North, which was more supportive of equality between the races, but she was African American, and this was something that affected her life, even if she did not live in the South. This song is a protest song, subtle as it may be, against lynching and the Jim Crow Laws. It describes the lynching, and what can be seen after this deed is performed. Using imagery and metaphors, she demonstrates the wrongs of the Jim Crow South and lynching. This song was inducted into the Grammy Hall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the very first line of the song states "Southern trees bear strange fruit", referring to the men being lynched to strange fruit. They are hanging from the tree, and they are strange fruit because that is not something that a tree produces. This however is a subtle metaphor for this action. A few lines down, she sings "Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze", which is clearly about lynching. After this, Billie's song goes, "Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh. Then the sudden smell of burning flesh", which shows a contrast between the peace and calm, and then the abrupt disruption of nature by the white men. She is obviously putting the smell in a negative light by describing the sweet flowers first, and how the overbearing smell disturbed it. The final important line is "Here is fruit for the crows to pluck", which is referring to the Jim Crow South and the white men that take part in the lynching. They literally pick out someone that they do not like just because of the color of their skin and they lynch them. Billie Holiday's song ends with "here is a strange and bitter crop", which still compares African American men to crops that have been picked (lynched), and after that they are just left there and no one gives another thought about ... • 7. The, Pastel Blues, By Nina Simone Nina Simone's 8th studio album, Pastel Blues, is an album featuring a fusion of sistering genres: blues, jazz, soul, folk, and gospel. Nina, being the brilliant arranger she was, is known for her ability to blend these genres into her signature sound. A sound most struggle to classify due to its avant garde nature. She got her start in music by playing the piano in church. One evening her church had a recital where her talents were recognised. Which lead to her starting piano lessons. Nina and her teacher's goal was for her to become the first black classical pianist. However after being rejected from school for being black, her dream died and she had to pick up jobs at clubs playing piano and later singing. From there she never stopped singing. As her fame grew in pop music she became more depressed. Later in her life she discovered she was riddled with mental illness. Manic depression being one of these illness. Nina Simone was a troubled woman but she was a gifted one. Simone was often looked at as difficult while others would say she was just extremely honest. She was a very controversial character in history along being a strong political figure. She was one of the well known civil rights activist along Lorraine Hansberry, Dr. King, and Malcolm X. She made it known that she was not non–violent. When she met Dr. King for the first time, she walked up to him and said "I'm not non–violent!" He replied, kind of ticked, saying "That 's okay sister. Moreover, before coming to Princeton, he had been director of the Mayor's Commission on Race Relations, in Detroit. • 10. Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis In Lord of the Flies, a group of teenage boys is faced with the tremendous obstacle of being stranded on an island after their plane had unfortunately crashed. To make matters worse, the eldest of the group is only twelve years old. They are now faced with the task of establishing roles for everyone to ensure that their time on the island went a smooth as possible, and that they were rescued as soon as possible. By establishing roles amongst the group, not everyone was able to be assigned their desired role, so naturally some of the boys were upset. This story provided a fairly accurate depiction of how it could possibly be when establishing a civilization in real life. Fairly shortly after the boy's plane crashed, everyone was assigned roles, and the voted leader of them all was Ralph. Ralph was really wise beyond his years, especially in comparison to many of the other boys on the island, and really had his priorities straight. Ralph's main concern was survival and order amongst the group, along with that came food and most importantly a signal fire big enough for passing boats to notice. One major quote from the book showing Ralph's leadership came early on, "They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough to be a link with the adult world of authority."(Golding 50) This quote shows how Ralph had authority of the group in the beginning, and when he spoke they listened. The Death and Life of Great American Cities Analysis The Death and Life of Great American Cities The Conditions for City Diversity analysis Part two of Death and Life explains several conditions for city diversity based on the observations of different American cities and discusses in depth the four factors that Jacobs believe are critical for the development of a city. The basis for generating diversity lies in these conditions, and cannot be secludedly achieved by planning and designing. This part lays out the foundation and is the basis for the rest of the book. It shows urban planning and many possible remedies for creating equal diversity, and studies why these are not applied and the effects of it not being so. These four conditions state that internal parts must provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these four conditions she diagnoses why cities fail at equal diversity, and how it could be formulated. Primary functions are those who bring people to specific places, to ensure safety in regions and from economic views such as people passing by shops to ensure incomes in certain places. Jane Jacobs underlines the importance of time spread, to create balance in the district. The need of short blocks is described with the example of Manhattan, where the use of long blocks segregate walking citizens and isolate people socially as well as economically. She argues that frequent streets and short blocks are more valuable since they provide cross–use of the streets. Most shops are dependant on people passing by each day, and short blocks could control the passings and create a diverse and balanced income for them. The mixture of buildings of different conditions are necessary to public life because it otherwise would be neither interesting nor fascinating. But the main reasons are because they ensure low rent yields, encouraging the growth of small enterprises. Large swatches of new construction would only prevent income since not many would afford it, and the demand for it would not be as large as it would need to be. Equal diversity created by a dense concentration of people is a necessity, since the other factors will have no effect if this condition is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Blood On The Leaves Interpretation Kanye West has proven himself over time that he is much more than just a producer. With each new album he releases, he constantly pushes the boundaries of music influencing artist across all genres. Kanye has an ever evolving sound that changes almost year to year. Kanye West's Yeezus album is an album that takes a much darker and more minimalist turn in his discography. This approach to music makes Yeezus a much harder album to listen through because it is not filled with nice, polished sounds. Having the album made this way makes us look over what the message of a song and the album are. Among many rough songs one the most popular on the album was Blood on the Leaves. Blood on the Leaves samples from another song called Strange Fruit sung by Nina Simone which is a very political song talking about gruesome lynchings that happened before and at the turn of the century. With help from the sample, West uses the pain of lynching and drug abuse to compare with the break ups he goes through. The instrumental of the song starts off very slow at the beginning we can hear a piano in the background that slowly begins to play. Over this soft piano sound we hear Nina Simone break through. She sets us up with an interesting imagery of strange fruit hanging. But she doesn't get to the part that they are bodies just yet. The listener is confused by exactly what she means by the meaning of "strange fruit" since there is no context of what she is referencing inside of the song. Almost ... Developing An Advanced Modern Distributed Networking System Abstract – Developing an advanced modern distributed networking system is very difficult and hard to manage as they operate over different environments, hence they have little control over the system and the environment in which they execute. The hardware and software resources in these networks may fail and become malicious unexpectedly. In these scenarios redundancy based reliability techniques can help manage such failures. But when the network is faced with dynamic and unpredictable resources and also there are chances of hackers and attackers to easily enter the network, in these situations the system or the network reliability can still fluctuate greatly. In order to tackle these kind of situations we need to come up with some kind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also if there is a desired increase in the system's reliability, then iterative redundancy achieves this reliability by using least resources possible. Iterative redundancy is also good in handling Byzantine threat model, which is the common threat model in most of the distributed networks. Later in this paper we formally prove iterative redundancy's self–adaption, efficiency and optimality properties. Then we use discrete event simulation; BIONIC and XDEVS to evaluate iterative redundancy against the existing redundancy based models. At the end we will be contributing on top of this paper, in order to eliminate some of the limitations in iterative redundancy and to make this technique much better. We will be seeing that the two assumptions made in this paper will be contradicting in the real world example. Nearing the end of the century, the idea that women should not work outside the home began to be challenged, and women started to hold jobs of their own (Fischer et al., 2000). Great opportunity was given to unmarried women, as they gained independence in living apart from their families (Fischer et al., 2000). Women began to fight for their independence, opposing the idea of only being known as a housewife. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony's red jacket, we can see that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director's purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The flaneur typically associates these passing faces with mammoth concepts such as death and existential loneliness in urban environments. Poe critiques the position of the flaneur in his short story "The Man of the Crowd" by ultimately revealing that human subjectivity is inalienable, and even if it were not it is nonetheless still a folly to suggest that humanity can be neatly divided into only so many categories, as our narrator attempts to do. The reader cannot be sure as to which of these traits belong to the man in the crowd, and which belong to the invalid flaneur, who is at that moment gazing into a reflection of his very own face. However, "Strange Fruit" exhibits... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown through a blend of sickening and tranquil imagery as well as parallel structure. For instance, when describing the strange fruit and its setting, the narrator describes "[A] Pastoral scene of the gallant South, The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth" (5–6). The two scenes presented to the reader are immensely contrasting, to the point that it is unsettling. However, the sentence's structure makes it seem as if such atrocities are an element of what makes the South so gallant and peaceful, further hinting at the South's acceptance of prejudice as part of its culture. In continuation with the description of the fruit, the author describes it as being "for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for the sun to rot, for the tree to drop" (9–11). The parallel structure of the fruit being incessantly acted upon by another force is heavily repeated throughout the third stanza. Not only does this give the tone that this process has been occurring long enough to the point of becoming almost somewhat of a tradition, but it also shows the fruit, the person, being bruised over and over again until it becomes absolutely unprofitable. • 26. Strange Fruit Poem Analysis In the music video/song "Strange Fruit", the phrase strange fruit doesn't really refer to a fruit that is strange. It actually refers to people being lynched and hanging from trees. More specifically, the term strange fruit applies to the lynching of African Americans. This song was performed by Billie Holiday in 1939 at the Cafe Society in New York. The music video was actually a recorded performance from 1959. The song was written and performed because the purpose of was to raise awareness and fight against African American lynching because during that time, African Americans were being discriminated and abused. Billie Holiday in the music video/song "Strange Fruit" displays logos through context and imagery, pathos through her sorrowful tone and facial expressions, and lastly, ethos because she won many awards during her career in singing, and Strange Fruit is one of them. The lyrics of the song have contains a handful of imagery describing African Americans being lynched. For example, "Blood on the leaves and blood on the root", is a very descriptive example and puts an image in your mind of seeing a tree with African Americans hanging with blood dripping from their bodies (genius.com). This line makes it seem like the blood that is dripping from the people hanging is feeding the tree's root, and this could symbolize growth because America was a growing country back then and still is today. Back then, African Americans were physically and mentally abused, and the point of the song was to put an end to that and it did eventually. Today, African Americans are still being discriminated for job opportunities because of stereotypes people made that make African Americans look bad. Throughout the course of time, we did make changes, which relates to the line, "Blood on the leaves and blood on the root". Another line the depicts a very cruel image is, "Here is fruit for crows to pluck" (genius.com) This line has a very dark meaning and image because crows always symbolize evil and darkness. The fact that this line puts a picture of bodies being devoured by crows in your mind, proves that Holiday uses very strong imagery in the context of Strange Fruit. From these two lines from the song, we learned that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edward, who was passing by saw this desperate old man, who looked so confused and helpless. He asked the old man, "what are you doing here at this late hour?" The freezing man answered, "I am waiting for a ride to take me home." Edward took some time with the old man, as they waited for a ride to take him to the next side of the river. The wait seemed endless and ineffective. However, they both heard the faint, steady rhythm of approaching hooves dashing along the icy path. This long speech, found in lines 149 to 196, shows Othello for the first time as a person with depth and less as a soldier. This speech is important to the book as a whole because it is a testimony to the strength of the love between Othello and Desdemona, which will later play a major role in the plot. It is also one of the first times that we see Othello trying to influence his audience with his words. The speech given by Othello is intended to convince Brabantio that Desdemona is with him willfully, and not by "spells and medicines bought of montebanks" (line 74). Her father ... • 41. Analyzing The Poem 'Strange Fruit' "Strange Fruit" Messages can travel through art in any form. The message hidden in "Strange Fruit" started as a disturbing photograph of a lynching that was taken in 1930. Decades later, a high school teacher named Abel Meeropol decided to transpose the feelings the photo evoked and wrote a poem that uses an eerie metaphor to convey those feelings. Then a song was created using the poem. After it was sung by the famous singer, Billie Holiday, the world heard the message that started with a simple photo. The image that the original poem was based on was a lynching in Marion, Indiana, of two young black men. "Strange Fruit" is a captivating poem that was written by Abel Meeropol and published in 1937.
