2. What have you produced and why?
I have produced a factual copy on fishing. This copy gives the reader an insight on fishing by giving beginner tips into fishing
equipment, facts, and different types of fishing. I have produced this copy mainly because it was easy for me to gather the
information and gather photographs of the equipment. This was relatively easy with having family members who go fishing
and having access to the internet.
My main target demographic for this leaflet would mainly be made up of males between the ages of 16-24 as it is for
beginners even though most fisherman are aged between 30-50 and so on this is for people just starting out.
3. What was the desired effect of the piece?
The desired effect of this piece is to look appealing to the target audience and to get across that they booklet is about
fishing and is for people just starting out in fishing. I also wanted to raise awareness that fishing is still a growing industry
despite not having as many jobs available as it use to have years ago and that a lot of young people are taking an interest in
fishing so therefor I have design a beginners booklet. Another desired effect of the piece I have created is to show that
fishing is of big interest and despite that many people think fishing is boring and dull it does effect everyone for example
people go fishing to catch fish to goes with your fish and chips and other meals including sometimes fish go into medicine.
4. Do you feel you achieved this?
I believe that the article I have created will draw the attention of fishing newbies and will then hopefully attract some older
people to partake in fishing. I also believe that what I have created will achieve the sole purpose it is for because it targets
its audience of 16-24 year olds who are just starting out. Another reason as to why I think I have achieved this is because I
have kept with the fishing theme and not just made something fancy so I kept it relevant to the theme and title. I also feel I
have achieved this because from the start I have add access to the information and also access to equipment so therefor it
was easy for my take photographs and get an idea on what to do for my layout and the effect it will give out.
5. What research did you conduct?
The research I have conducted consists of web searching for information and using online videos. This is in order to gather
facts, information about the equipment and also information about what types of fishing there is. The research conducted on
websites and videos was done by me searching for valid facts about fishing before going on to finding out the many different
types of fishing there is such as coarse fishing, fly fishing, carp fishing and many more.I also searched for videos containing
this information to broaden my research to many different types of research and not just one. I also created questionnaires
and had them filled in for feedback on my layout. On the questionnaires a huge majority of people said that the graphics are
really good however they complained that the text is too cramped together and there is too many photographs.
6. What information did you learn and how did it help
you create the work?
From the research I have conducted I have learned a lot about fishing from what types of fishing there is such as coarse
fishing and fly fishing and the fact that there are many more types of fishing which of course is for catching many different
types of fish. I have also learn’t that fishing is a big thing that is continuing to grow with millions being spent on equipment,
boats and fishing licenses. I also learned that fishing can come with great risks for example fishing on boats can be extreme
with risks of waves, boat damages and being away from family for months at a time. I also learned that with fishing comes
great responsibility because you have got to be careful where you are fishing as some areas are restricted, some fish are
protected and some places allow you to fish just not take the fish home with you.
7. How successful was this?
This was successful because of all the research I have done and the feedback I have received, I have been able to make
my layout the best it could possibly be. This was because I have listened to the feedback I have received both recorded
feedback and written feedback in the forms of questionnaires and I then went on to make the necessary changes
recommended in the feedback. This was also because of how easy the information and photographs were to obtain and that
fishing has a lot of history and the facts are there to obtain via research.
8. How does your work compare to existing examples
in the same or similar genre?
My work is similar to existing samples because in a way my booklet is more informative than just a visual piece. This is
similar Korum magazine however not entirely similar as korum magazine had a lot of other information about fishing. They
are similar in content because they are about making fishing more easy and providing information about equipment ,types of
fishing and so on. Korum is more for fisherman that have already been fishing some time but my booklet is for people just
starting fishing therefor my work consists of more tips and facts with loads of imagery and graphics. I would say that Korum
consists of more indepth information and has a certain typography for fisherman to understand and uses hyperboles a lot
too as it is a magazine with more pages for more information.
9. What skills have you developed?
I have developed new skills on how to make a article layout for a booklet. I have also developed skills to create graphics
and taking good photographs. I have also developed skills in indesign and photoshop and these skills have helped me to
develop a layout for my booklet and also the graphics that I have made for it. These skills are extremely helpful because it
has enabled me get on with my work and make it the best it could possibly be. I have also developed necessary skills that
enable me to not just take photographs of a good enough standard but to also make good standard graphics on photoshop
and transfer them over to indesign.
10. If you could improve anything, what would it be and
why?
I would improve the colour scheme and also move the text around and change the front cover because there is still a lot of
space on the front cover and to be honest it looks rather dull however with the text all being close together it makes it look
more like it was put together last minute. I would change the colour scheme because at the moment it is dominated by blue
and black and even though it's relevant to the theme it is also quite dull. I would also improve the front cover as I feel as if I
could of done more to that part of the layout.
