Female – 9
I asked peoples gender because it would eliminate
any bias of either sex. This, therefore, made my
results more reliable. My results are fairly equal,
which means the rest of the questionnaire, and
results, will not be subject to any gender bias. I
think this was an important question for my
research.
3. I chose to ask about the age of the
people filling out my questionnaire
because the genre of music my
magazine will be based on (heavy
metal) is fairly age specific and
therefore I wanted to get a mix of all
the ages within my target audience.
However, the results show that the
questionnaire was filled out mainly by
the lower end of my age spectrum
which will indicate that my results will
be fairly bias towards the younger
end of my target audience. I still think
that this is an important question to
ask and will help the production of
my magazine.
4. I asked the public to name three
colours that they associate with
heavy metal music. I asked this
question to aid my decision on the
colour scheme of my magazine. As it
can be clearly seen in my results, the
colours black and red were the most
popular, by far. Then the colours grey
and white were chosen. This will be
extremely helpful with the production
of my magazine because it will speed
up my decision making of the colours
I will use, which I think will be black,
red and grey.
5. I asked, in my questionnaire, how often
people read music magazines. It
quickly became apparent that many of
the people that filled it out tend not to
read music magazines. This was not a
problem, however, because the other
questions I asked, I made clear to
answer them about any magazines
because they were mostly not crucially
about music magazines. This question
was still helpful because it showed me
that out of the people who did say they
read music magazines, they mostly
read them weekly. This will influence if
my magazines are produced weekly or
monthly.
6. As this table shows, the majority of
people were willing to pay between
£2-£3 for a magazine. Taking this into
account I will decide on the price at
which I will make my magazine. This
may not have been a strong enough
question as it could have been
because people may have based
there prices on what they would
prefer to pay as appose to what the
realistically pay. However the results
will still be beneficial to the pricing of
my magazine.

In my questionnaire, I asked
people when reading an article, if
they prefer more text or photos
or a mixture of both. As the
results suggest, a solid mixture of
both was the preferred option.
Therefore, when I plan and write
my double page spread article, I
will use a mixture. This question
was a good question because it
has helped me to structure a main
part of my project, based on what
people want to read/see.
8. I also asked if the public played an
instrument. I feel this was an important
question, because if those of my target
age and audience paly instruments
more often than not, I may choose to
add such regular content as
‘instrumental lessons’ or ‘can you play
this?’, for example. As these results
show, it was fairly close however the
majority of people wrote that they did
not play instruments. In this case, I may
choose to leave out these articles and
decide to use some other, more suited
articles of which a wider variety of my
audience will benefit.
Yes – 9
No – 10
9. Another question I asked was where
people mainly bought their music;
online or in store. I asked this question
to get an idea of mainly where people
purchased their music so that I could
use these ideas for prizes for
magazine quiz articles or other feature
articles. I found from my results, that
people mainly bought music online.
This means that, for example, an
iTunes voucher of a certain value could
be used as a prize for any
competitions that I may, or may
not, choose to feature in my
magazine.

10. I also asked in my questionnaire, if
people would ever illegally
download music. I asked this
question because it shows how
many people would actually
benefit from a prize of such things
as an iTunes voucher. However, I
am not sure how reliable these
results are because, even though
the questionnaire was
anonymous, I’m not entirely sure
that everyone that will have
illegally downloaded music would
have circled the true answer.

This question differed from the rest. I
asked this question as an idea of
what clothing brands could be
possible advertisers. I found, with my
results, that Topshop is the shop that
the public say they shopped in most.
After that, it was Next, Burton, New
Look, River Island. I feel this was a
valuable question because it tells
me, directly from the public, what
potential advertisements people
would like to see in my magazine.
12. I asked the public if anyone ever
writes into magazines for such
articles as ‘reader review’
articles. My results firmly show
that not many people did at all.
However, I then asked those
who said no, if there was a prize
to be won, would they consider
it. The results this time round
were fairly close, with the
majority of people saying
yes, they would. This is
important because it will help
me to understand what content
people want to see within the
magazine.
