2. History
Radio Times was the world’s first broadcast listings magazine. It was founded in
1923 by John Reith, he was the general manager of the BBC.
At the start, Radio Times was a combined enterprise between the BBC and the
published George Newnes, who type-set, printed and distributed the magazine. In
1925 assumed full editorial control, and by 1937 the Radio Times was fully in
house.
By 1950s Radio Times had become the magazine with the largest circulation in
Europe, with the average sales of 8.8 million in the mid 50s.
4. Why
The target audience for Radio Times is people age 60, these people are the
secondary audience for our documentary. Listing our documentary in the Radio
Times means that our secondary audience will find out about it.
Radio Times is also owned by the BBC, which is the channel that we are airing our
documentary on. This creates synergy and would work out cheaper as they both
benefit from each other.
