A homogeneous mixture is a type of mixture with a uniform composition where the substances cannot be easily distinguished from one another. It is composed of a solvent, the substance doing the dissolving, and a solute, the substance being dissolved. Solutions can be concentrated, containing a relatively large amount of solute, or dilute, containing a relatively small amount of solute. Common examples include salt water, where water is the solvent and salt is the solute, and carbonated drinks, where gas is the solute dissolved in a liquid solvent.
