Essay On Sediment Fingerprinting
Abstract:
The growing awareness of the environmental significance of fine–grained sediment fluxes in fluvial
systems continues to underscore the need for reliable information on the principal sources.
Traditional monitoring techniques are unable to solve the source estimation alone and had many
spatial and temporal limits, but sediment source fingerprinting method has emerged as a potentially
valuable supplement to address these issues. Despite the rapidly increasing numbers of studies
reporting that the use of sediment source fingerprinting method has several key challenges and
uncertainties continue to hamper the existing methodological procedures. This review identifies
existing methodological steps for sediment fingerprinting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

2016).
Quantitative information on the sources of sediment is key to developing effective erosion control
measures to maximize sediment reduction. However, such information is extremely limited due to
difficulties in direct measurement of sediment source contributions from various sources within a
watershed (Zhang and Liu 2016). Generally, there are two ways in determining the source of
sediment. One is to use traditional techniques such as erosion pins or unit source plots or small
watersheds to estimate sediment provenance from a source type (e.g. gully, overland erosion
source). These methods possibly meet some of these information requirements, but they have
several limitations such as the representativeness of the obtained data, their spatial and temporal
resolution, associated spatial patterns over extended areas, and costs as well. Moreover, traditional
monitoring and modelling methods for soil erosion dynamics involved many parameters and long–
term measurement. For example, to obtain long–term erosion data in agroecosystems, experimental
plots must be carried out over decades to integrate the inter–annual variability of climate and
cropping practices (Mabit et al. 1999).
Another way to estimate sediment source contributions is to use sediment source fingerprinting. The
fingerprinting method has been used at many spatial scales, ranging from a plot to a large river basin

Formal Visual Description Of Le-Ver-De-Porto
AuthorLastName2 This paper will provide a formal visual description of le–ver–de–porto. The
painting describes an injunctive atmosphere created by a lovely couple around an almost rectangular
table with round edges inside a dark room with a few sources of light. The painting applies the best
technique of handling that portrays visible brush strokes to present a coarse kind of a portrait. The
painter uses very fade lights to define the boundaries of the objects and bring the portrait in a real
life picture. He also uses a strong contrast between the bright colors, which appear to mimic one
another and dark ones as can be seen on the tabletop, the skin colors, the walls and ground surfaces.
What appears to be a dark room receives sufficient illumination

Introduction
It is acknowledged that real–world situations could be represented by well structured and formulated
Linear programming models. These mathematical tools contribute significantly to business activities
and can be used to tackle problems that constantly arise.
Franco Sounds is a company specialised in manufacturing Hi–Fi Amplifiers of top quality and its
main goal, at the moment, is to minimise its overall production and transportation cost.
This report presents a quantitative analysis which has been conducted in order to fulfil Franco
Sounds' main goal. The primary purpose of it is to provide the clients with the best
recommendations drawn from the model's formulation and solution as well as to underline all the
crucial assumptions.
The following objectives had been considered:
a. A formulation of the appropriate linear programming model for the optimal solution
b. An analysis and interpretation of the linear model using Microsoft Office Excel's Solver.

Mission Brazil Essay
Sean arrived in Brazil amidst a flurry of activity surrounding the opening of Mission Brazil's newest
consulate in Porto Alegre. The new consulate got built from a shell of a gutted market building and
required a modern IT infrastructure to support the communication systems. The building also
needed every Department of State IT system installed as well as a qualified staff to maintain the
equipment. Sean took advantage of this rare opportunity and demonstrated his ability to lead,
multitask, and manage these projects from beginning to end. Additionally, Sean worked with his
colleagues in Brasilia and developed a highly skilled team to support IRM operations for the new
consulate. Since new missions occur infrequently, many departments in Washington have little
experience organizing IT installation projects for new facilities. Sean identified, no small task, the
people responsible for the numerous areas, quickly formed contacts and identified the requirements
to install these systems, to include the remediation of incorrectly installed contractor equipment and
infrastructure. Because Sean got his contact information organized early it allowed him to better
plan which ensured his projects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

departures, Brazil's telephone operations dropped 75%. Sean recognized the problem and worked
with his Porto Alegre team to lend the needed support. Thanks to Sean's foresight and willingness to

American Imperialism : America 's Foreign Policy
American Imperialism America wanted to expand their foreign policy to help boost their economy.
They felt threatened because not only did they have to compete with countries like Germany and
Japan to secure access to Chinese markets. The first foreign policy the U.S. had was the Monroe
Doctrine, which closed the Western Hemisphere to further colonization from European countries.
This secured the U.S. foreign trade with Central America. The American foreign policy warned
European nations to stay away from the Western Hemisphere while the U.S. also competed for trade
in the Eastern Hemisphere. America's interest with China's market grew and they became more
aggressive to secure their presence in Asia, which almost brought them to war with Germany. In the
1890's China was split into portions of influence by the European nations so Secretary of State John
Hay recommended the Open Door Policy, which promised access to trade to all major powers in
China instead of splitting China into portions. In 1895 Cuba rebelled against Spain to declare their
independence. Americans were outraged with the Spanish after they had killed off a quarter of the
Cuban population. Newspapers flooded with propaganda and pressure for the U.S. to intervene and
help the Cuban revolution. Americans felt that it was there duty to help Cuba and freeing them from
Spain's control. Not only did they feel it was the humanitarian thing to do but the Cuban rebellion
also damaged American business in Cuba.

A Note On Dirk Niepoort
In a short time, the Douro has created itself as Portugal's premium wine region. The change that is
now taking place in this most extraordinary wine regions. The suddenly joined vineyards hold some
delightful terroirs. Because the economic domination of the Port trade it is only lately that these
have been broadly oppressed to produce premium wines. Table wine has continuously been made
here but, with a couple of noteworthy omissions, it has been unattractive stuff, typically badly made
from low quality grapes that were leftover to the requirements of Port producers. Numerous factors
have united to change this situation. Most significantly, a critical mass of concurring winemakers
has arisen, passionate about making the very best wines that these extraordinary terroirs are
proficient of. Dirk Niepoort has been a key player in current developments in the region. As well as
producing some dazzlingly expressive Douro wines himself, he has been acting as a ingredient by
inspiring the leading wine producers to get together and spur each other on to better things. (Goode,
Jamie).
"A few years later, events conspired to escalate the exports of Portuguese wine to England. In 1667
Colbert, first minister of Louis XIV, embarked on a series of measures to restrict the import of
English goods into France. This provoked Charles II of England into increasing the duty on French
wines and later forbidding their import altogether, obliging the English wine trade to seek alternative

Should College Athletes Get Paid Essay
Should College Athletes Get Paid?
Would you like to work harder in college sports if you got paid? I know I would. I'm talking about
this topic because I think it's important that the college athletes get something for themselves.
College athletes should get paid because some of them are tempted to gamble or accept illegal
payments, they win games for their university in the premier sport, and they do the same stuff as
professional athletes.
The college athlete should not get paid because the school pays for the them to go to school (Joe
Smith). The teenagers are getting a free education that many people can't pay to earn. They go to
school for free and get to play their favorite sport. The social cost of college sports are high (Porto,
Brian L.). These students should be more active in their classes and they wouldn't gamble as much
because they have to do school work. Freshman eligibility and annually renewable athletic
scholarships turn the NCAA's ideal of the "student–athlete" on its head (Porto, Brian L.). These
students should be more focused on book work. College has all of their priorities backwards. They
force college students who play varsity sports to be athletes first and students second, if at all (Porto,
Brian L.). If the college athletes don't have good enough grades they would be ineligible. The school

Suicide In Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is one play in a series of stories about two young lovers with
feuding families. The first known story was in the fifth century A.D., not printed until 1726, called
Ephesiaca by Xenophon of Ephesus. The wife is separated from her husband and to avoid marrying
another man, she takes a sleeping potion. She wakes up in a tomb and is carried off for other
adventures. Based on this story is Masuccio's Il Novellino of 1476. It is an Italian story about
Mariotto and Giannozza. A Friar secretly marries them, and then Mariotto kills an important citizen
and is exiled to Alexandria. Giannozza takes a sleeping potion to avoid marrying a man of her
fathers choosing and after being buried, sneaks away to Alexandria. Pirates ... Show more content on

He is beheaded and Giannozza comes back and dies in a convent. The sequences of events in this
story are very similar to Romeo and Juliet. However, there is no mention of feuding families and the
lovers do not commit suicide. In 1530 Luigi da Porto published Historia novellamente ritrovata di
due Nobili Amanti based on Masuccio's story but set in Verona with feuding families, the Montecchi
and the Cappelletti. Romeo meets Giulietta at a Carnival ball and forgets about an unrequited love
he has for another girl. They see each other at church and Romeo visits her chamber window.
Romeo mistakes Giulietta's sleeping for her death and kills himself. When Giulietta wakes she
"drew in her breath and held it long, and then, uttering a great cry, fell dead on the corpse of
Romeo." It lacks characters comparable to the Nurse and Benvolio but Mercutio has an undeveloped
counterpart in this narrative, named Marcuccio. Inspired by Porto, Matteo Bandello wrote Novelle
in 1554. In this version, Julietta wants to run off with the banished Romeo but he forbids it. Romeo
writes a letter to his father explaining everything when he learns the false news that Julietta is dead.

Hunger: The Issue Of World Hunger In Brazil
World hunger has been a problem for ages. There is no particular place on Earth where people
haven't suffered from famine or other severe food supply restrictions in some period of history.
However, we are just crossing the age of the Green Revolution. Science and technology are solving
the issues of food production and – yet it has many problematic consequences to the environment
sustainability – it is not reasonable that we face so many people starving in undeveloped countries
anymore, especially the young children, the ones who need the most effective and healthy nutrition.
In Brazil, the issue of hunger is a concern for the entire country's history. Even though the recent

Was America Justified In Making Hawaii Justified
In many ways America was justifiable in making Hawaii apart of their territory due to the fact that
they were not large enough to self govern themselves and could benefit from trading resources.
Albert Beveridge who was an American historian stated that "the rule of liberty that all just
government derives its authority from the consent of the governed, applies only to those who are
capable of self government" (Text 3). This meant that if a country did not have the power to rule
themselves, that they have no say in whether or not someone can take them over. He argued that
Hawaii was to small to self govern and protect itself from outside countries. By America making
Hawaii its territory, it allowed the island to be protected and governed by

Should College Athletes Be Paid?
There is a debate on whether college athletes should be paid. It has been known that the fewer
scholarships given to student–athletes increase their competiveness on the field, which shows us that
keeping money away from student–athletes makes them more competitive (Baird 2). There is also a
case that student–athletes are being robbed because they are not receiving compensation for their
own likeness (Holthaugh JR. 1). Television networks are paying millions for the rights to show big
games on TV, which shows us that student–athletes are the entertainers with no compensation
(Bowen 1). Allen Sack informs us that there have been cases where some athletes in the NCAA get
injured before they finish their career and don't make it to the pros due to the loss of their
scholarship, which shows us that the NCAA is exploiting student–athletes Sack 2).The NCAA
should require schools to pay for sports–related injuries in any serious injury, because it can
determine if they will make it to the NFL (Huma 1). Athletes are accepting illegal pay, because they
see the universities making all of the money, which shows us that poor student–athletes are in need
of compensation (Porto 1). Adrian Peterson thinks that college athletes should be paid because he
fought through injuries and did not make a penny from his years at Oklahoma, which shows us that
student–athletes who make it to the NFL have injuries that they are fighting through during the
combine (Haislop 2). Joe Theisman thinks that

Essay On Representative Democracy
Throughout this essay I am to outline what a direct democracy would look like in modern Ireland
and show both the advantages and disadvantages of this type of democracy in comparison to
representative democracy. I will be arguing that, despite its flaws, some aspects of direct democracy
should be implemented into the current representative democracy which exists in Ireland. I will be
primarily using the writings of Karl Marx, other Marxist philosophers and Aristotle to reference my
answer. These writings are undoubtably still relevant today as these teachings so heavily effected
future civilizations.
Direct democracy can be defined as a form of democracy in which the citizens, rather than elected
representatives, determine the laws and policies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it should not act as a means to eliminate representative democracy, but should act as a
means to make it more democratic, to help a democracy reflect the opinions and beliefs of the
people. When people have little say in the political process, they feel disconnected and have little
interest in decisions made by the government. I feel that if aspects of direct democracy were
implemented in Ireland, it would be for the betterment of society. Aristotle describes it best when
discussing the importance of inclusion in the political process "If liberty and equality, as is thought
by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike

Analysis: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
How would you feel if you worked vigorously every week for 60 hours and ended up with no
paycheck? College athletes should be paid because the universities, colleges, apparel companies,
T.V networks and athletic conferences they are playing for are making millions of dollars and the
players get very little of that money. Also playing a college sport is like a full time job and athletes
do not have time to make money to pay for a sufficient day–to–day life. Finally paying college
athletes will decrease the number of student–athletes accepting illegal payments to get by in their
daily life. Colleges, universities,, T.V networks, shoe companies and athletic conferences are making

Author of 'The Game of Life: College Sports and Educational Values' James L. Shulman has stated
that "Sometimes athletes do not appreciate the educational opportunities they are given, particularly
if they view the college experience merely as an opportunity to prepare to play in a professional
sports league"(Shulman 1). Overall college athletes need to keep up a certain GPA to participate in
sports while attending university, which means they care about their education. Also multiple
college athletes stay longer to complete their college degree such as senior quarterback at the
University of California, Berkley, Jared Goff, who is a projected top 5 selection in this years NFL

"There are also student–athletes who have to leave school early because they do not have enough
money to continue, or pay their bills and leaving school for a career in professional sports is an easy
way of making money. The argument is that if student–athletes get paid, they will remain in school
and complete their education"(Meshefejian 2). If student–athletes get paid, they will stay in school
longer and get a degree, then move on to a higher level of athletic competition. Also paying college

The dago fell to his knees, and when the hood leaned in, the kid stuck him in the gut, deep; the hood

Recycling As Puerto Rico's New Economy
Puerto Rico's Economy
Before we delve into the viability of recycling becoming Puerto Rico's economy of the future it is
imperative to understand the current status of the commonwealth's economy. Puerto Rico is
currently experiencing an economic crisis. In the midst of a 10–year recession, it is now $72 billion
in debt. The unemployment rate is currently 11.8 compared to 6.6 in Alaska, which has the highest
unemployment rate of any state. The island also has a poverty rate twice that of America's poorest
state, Mississippi. In a CNN Money article titled Why Puerto Rico's economy is in a 'death spiral' by
Patrick Gillespie the author explains that despite Puerto Rico having a similar population to that of
Connecticut, 3.5 million, it carries the same debt load of New York State, 20 million. Gillespie
believes that the problems "stem from massive government overspending, a big dependence on debt
and a costly, inefficient energy system. The Puerto Rican government has not been able to grow the
economy for years leading to a rise in unemployment, business moving away from the island, and
Puerto Ricans moving the United States for employment opportunities. Unlike other islands in the
Caribbean, Puerto Rico imports crude oil to generate electricity for its residents, which results in a
very costly process. Other islands are using a combination of solar and wind power, along with

Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving Dinner: Political Cartoon Analysis
Two political cartoons, "School Begins" and "Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving Dinner", published by
different artists, avail of distinct examples to demonstrate America's attempt to civilize ethnic and
racial groups as a means of granting them social acceptance. "School Begins" exhibits Uncle Sam as
the dominant white American male in the center. In the cartoon, Americans are a part of the well–
disciplined class studying books labeled with their state's name and are neatly arranged, juxtaposed
with the disorderly class seated in the front made up of the "Philippines, Hawaii, Porto Rico, and
Cuba." The territories are depicted as dark–skinned and undomesticated, serving the racist and

The cartoon displays an African–American boy washing the windows behind Uncle Sam, by the
door a Native American with a feather sticking out of his hair, is trying to read a book upside down,
and a Chinese boy outside the doorway of the classroom is evidently excluded. Essentially, every
nonwhite individual in the cartoon is rendered with exaggerated physical features that establish their
racial identity. These characters are important because they show the ways the American ideal
includes some while simultaneously denying others. The territories acquired from the Mexican–
American War in 1848, California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico, are represented as quiet,
studious white Americans, with the exception of Alaska being the only nonwhite disciplined student.
The territories Uncle Sam is trying to properly discipline, the Philippines, Hawaii, Porto Rico and
Cuba, are represented with dark skin and dramatized facial expressions and features, revealing a
clear racial bias. Although the cartoon is proposing that what the United States is doing with these
new territories is a good thing, there is a clear bias towards white people being civilized and people
with darker complexions being either ignorant or uncivilized. This racial bias depicted in the
uncivilized nature of the territories represented in the cartoon is used to validate the surge of
imperialism within the United

Impact of Agricultural Trade liberalization on Poverty in...
Impact of Agricultural Trade liberalization on Poverty in Latin America
Historically the agricultural sector has been an important sector for the economies of Latin America
because of this the issue of global agricultural trade liberalization has been a hotly contested issue.
Some suggest it may harm Latin American countries and increase poverty by opening up the sector
to foreign competition from more technological advanced nations. Others have argued that it will
increase economic competitiveness and reduce poverty by promoting an increase in exports, job
creation and by improving economic productivity in the sector. Research into this question suggests
that global agricultural trade liberalization may reduce poverty overall in Latin ... Show more

For example, many have observed that the decline of agricultural sector in the US signalled the rise
an urban industrial society seen today. Furthermore, some studies estimate that the agricultural
sector is 3.2 times better at reducing poverty when compared to other sectors of the economy when
the size of the sector is considered (Christiaensen, Demery, Kuhl, 2011). This may be due to the
high levels of participation of the extreme poor in agricultural industries (Christiaensen et al., 2011).
Growth in the agricultural sector is also known to have significant spillover effects into other sectors
of the economy and to disproportionately benefit the poorest citizens in many cases (Valdés, Foster,
2010).
All this is relevant to Latin America due its relatively large agricultural sector and its longstanding
struggle with poverty that dates back many decades. Latin America is known for its high level of
inequality and high rates of poverty. For example, in the 1980's the poor made up 19% of the
continent's population (Cardoso, Helwege, 1992) with roughly 8% living on a dollar a day
(Anderson, Cockburn, Martin, 2011). Although poverty has declined in recent years many
governments are still grappling with this issue and research shows many Latin American nations
benefiting from a global liberalization of agricultural trade.
Brazil is a Latin American country that is often cited as being perfectly

How Did Shakespeare Influence Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare, a prosperous Renaissance man, is known as the greatest playwright in English
literature. He was born on April 23, 1564 in a small town called Stratford–upon–Avon,
Warwickshire, England to John and Mary Arden Shakespeare (Waller). William started his writing
during the time period where individuality and freedom of choice were put emphasis on. This
lifestyle greatly influenced a vast majority of his works and his contributions to the English
language. Shakespeare has written over thirty–seven plays, his most famous being Romeo and
Juliet. He was a master of dramatic language and played with words and their meanings in a way
that could rarely be forgotten, once heard or read. Shakespeare attended class at King's New School,
where he learned several languages including Latin, Greek, French, and Italian. Throughout the
years, Shakespeare encountered many famous authors such as Aesop, Caesar, Cicero, Virgil, etc. In
school, he studied logic, rhetoric, grammar, and the concepts of composition and oratory, which ...

Descriptive Essay About Porto Seguro
Have you ever thought about taking a break from the stressful college life? Want to go to a place
where the food is good, the locals are friendly, and the culture is rich? Porto Seguro is that city.
Located on the northeast coast of Brazil, it is not only a beautiful place with stunning beaches, is a
historical city since is where the Portuguese first arrived in the country. Picture yourself in this
scene. You get out of your hotel, cross the street and you are already with your toes in the sand. You
sit in a nice comfortable chair while drinking a fresh and cold coconut water and when you finish
you dive in the clean, hot atlantic ocean. Considering the place, the people, the culture, and the
activities, there is no better place for college students to take a break from the hard–working student
life. The first good aspect about Porto Seguro is the place. Since Porto Seguro is a tourist town, you
can find everything from cheap, comfortable hostels to five stars hotels with a nice view of the
beach and the illuminated buildings around, it only depends on how much you want to spend. The
food has the same range in prices and although there are a lot of cheap fast food restaurants in the
narrow streets, it is worth to spend a little more money and try typical Brazilian foods like the
delicious tapioca, the crunchy acaraje, the hot moqueca, and, of course, the famous feijoada. The
weather is another great thing about the city, the temperature hardly is below 80 Fahrenheit, and it

Reflection Essay
Confidence level: selfie with snapchat dog filter I used to be an introvert. I spoke only when
necessary and solely when I was called upon. Friend to none. Shadow to all.
I was too scared to show my true self. I wanted to fangirl with the others about One Direction. I
desired to show my teachers that I was competent in answering questions. I hoped to show my
friends– correction– friend that my tongue wasn't paralyzed. I wanted to show Tommy Porto, the
local bully, that my name was Harshita not Shita.
Then I met Harry Potter and Percy Jackson: wo kids who were oppressed in their homes and
schools. Who eventually found a voice. Who eventually made a difference. Unlike Harry, I couldn't
conjure a polyjuice potion to fabricate a facade. Like Percy, I wanted to bathe in the River Styx to
make myself immortal. Still, even these immortals had weak spots; mine would forever be silence
and shyness.

Puerto Rico And The United States
Puerto Rico, whose word meaning is "rich port" in Spanish, is a beautiful Island located in the
middle of the Caribbean. Its strategic location made it a must have territory to the Spaniards who
colonized it over four hundred years before the United States took a special interest. It all started in
the year 1898, with the Treaty of Paris Puerto Rico now is property of the United States. After
centuries of being led by Sevilla and Madrid, Puerto Rico was now forced to look upon Washington.
The series of events leading the Spanish–American War changed Puerto Rico permanently. From
changing the Island's name from Porto Rico to Puerto Rico to Americanizing the Puerto Rican
people in all ways possible, the acquisition of Puerto Rico from the United States had numerous
economic, social and political impacts.
Records show that Puerto Ricans were doubtful that the Spanish would grant them the autonomy
that was promised to them on 1987. Puerto Ricans admired the United Sates for gaining
independence from the British and they truly believed that the United States would be more likely to
allow them sovereignty and be fairer than being under Spain. "The people of Puerto Rico felt
assured that their island would be granted independence or eventually become a state, and that either
of these possibilities would ensure greater prosperity..."(Flores P. 73). After the "splendid little war"
a peaceful treaty known as the The Treaty of Paris was signed by the United States and Spanish

My Princess Life Content Disney World has been a big part of my life since my first visit at merely
six months old. As an only child, I am the princess of my family wherever I go, and we love to
travel. Every weekend, I'm either in a different state, country, or at Walt Disney World. As I traveled
this summer throughout the US and Europe, I searched for the places where the Disney princesses,
that are always with me in heart, might feel at home, too. Style My concentration is the setting of
where I might find a Disney princess if she were in the places that I visited. I depicted the princesses
using a symbol that the viewer can relate to. Each painting has a base color undertone that is

I 'll Start From The Middle
I'll start from the middle. It's how it must be in art. Each creation is a new start, always from the
point where we are at the moment: the midway. From the middle of the stage I observe how
experiences determine my choices, create patterns and unique ways of relationship with the creative
process. My body is the starting point for investigations. Izquierdo (2011) tells us that we can only
create from what we know, and what we know is in our memories.
I observe the stories that my movement tells me. These are the body memories. This observation is
grounded by the recognition of the relationship that occurs between mind and body. Recent studies
(CALDEWELL, 2012; DAMASIO, 2011) show that only through our body can we have a mind.

However, memory is not something set in the past. It is rather an event of the present. The body
memory can only be studied and observed in the present. "What we have acquired as skills, habits
and experience, has become what we are today; implicit knowing is our lived past". (FUCHS, 2003,
p. 02). Our body is our living memory, constantly modified by new experiences. It's not like a
museum or an old trunk where we put away our memories. The body is, actually, something that's
always renewed by the present.
In this essay I've chosen to discuss movement patterns or habits that are part of the procedural
memory. Movement patterns can be considered the neurological and muscular organization that
underlies the motor responses of our body. Sometimes, these motor responses are conditioned and
it's hard to obtain different answers, even for different stimulus. This can be a trap during the
process of creating choreography.
Kandel (2009) identifies three main forms in the process of learning: habituation, sensitization and
conditioning. From the studies of physiologist Ivan Pavlov (1849–1936), Kandel (2009) argues that
these forms of learning occur from the association of a stimulus with another stimulus or a stimulus
with a response. Habituation occurs when the repetition of a stimulus leads to suppression of a
response. Sensitization is the reverse. In this case, we learn to give attention to a stimulus

Puerto Rico Trench Earthquake Research Paper
Puerto Rico fell victim to an earthquake on 11 October 1918 that measured 7.5 on the Richter Scale.
The earthquake was followed by a tsunami that came bearing down on the Puerto Rican coast with a
wall of water that was estimated at approximately six feet high. This disaster claimed the lives of
116 people. These events have been attributed to the Puerto Rico Trench.
The Puerto Rico Trench is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, with water depths exceeding 8,400

How Puerto Rican Lesbians Deal With Their Gender,...
Asencio's study tries to understand how Puerto Rican lesbians deal with their gender, sexuality, and
ethnonationality, living in another country. The study focus on the experience of migrant Porto
Rican lesbians regarding their multiple identities as women, lesbians, Porto Ricans, and migrants,
the complexities of the issues and the strategies employed to survive, and the relationship among
gender, sexuality. Ethnonationality, migration, and geographical location. The author reinforces that
there is almost none study about lesbians Latinas, and she points out that the experience of those
women could contribute to social science with the understanding of gender, race, culture, sexuality,
and issues of multiple identities and oppressions.
Asencio (2009) says, "The majority of these women had to negotiate identities in such a way that
only one identity could exist or flourish in a given situation". Their identities were fragmented
accordingly to the situation they had to face. Sometimes being a lesbian prevail on being a Porto
Rican, and vice–versa. Porto Rico is a patriarchal society, with that being said it is easy to
understand that as being Porto Rican women they had to grow up seeing themselves as different
from the males, because women had different roles in society than men, and that has huge influence
on their gender identities. The women often emphasizes the lack of freedom in being what they
wanted to be.
The next realization of theirs identities was the sense and

Brazilian Telenovelas Analysis
In her book "Brazilian Telenovelas and the Myth of Racial Democracy" Samantha Nogueira Joyce
looks into the hit telenovela "Duas Caras (2007) – Two faces". This telenovela is gatekeeper when it
comes to issues of race and society itself. It sheds a light on interracial relationships, political power,
the wage gap and, mostly, the drama of being poor, black and living in favelas. Although "Duas
Caras" was the first contemporary telenovela to address race issues through a graphic and politically
incorrect plot, dialogue and characters, it also shows how different factors such as narrative,
audience reaction and media criticism played a dynamic role in creating a public discussion
regarding race in the media and in Brazilian society. Despite the telenovelas, both Portugal and ...

Nursing Profession In an article entitled Combating Disruptive Behaviors: Strategies to Promote a
Healthy Work Environment, the author states, "disruptive behaviors among healthcare workers
threaten the safety and well being of both patients and staff (Longo, 2010)". A study conducted by
the Institute for Safe Medical Practices (2004) found that 39% of the nurses encountered reluctance
or refusal to answer questions or return phone calls or pages; 40% reported condescending language
or voice intonation; and 42% reported impatience with questions on the part of physicians (Longo,
2010). Due to their status of being seen as revenue generators for the hospital, physicians have long
been in positions of power within healthcare systems. Because of this, their disruptive behaviors
may be ignored or the physician may be treated more leniently than other staff members. Hospital
administrators historically have reinforced these behaviors by giving in to the demands of the
physician (Longo, 2010). Disruptive behavior may affect the nurse in the form of stress, frustration,
lack of concentration, breakdown in communication, and impaired information transfer (Iyer, n.d. ).
Edwards (2007) describes the physiological and psychological consequences of bullying: anxiety,
panic attacks, aggression, feeling of dread, headaches, increased blood pressure, and loss of

better and receive greater. You have to change the way you think about yourself and the way you
handle things, such as yourself, your emotions, your finance, and your relationships in order to be
successful in life. You must know your purpose. People who don't know their purpose are like
people who fight with their eyes closed, they are just beating the air and hitting nothing. I tell them
in order to find your purpose, you must find what you are passionate about. Find what you love to
do and you will then have found your purpose. When passion develops purpose comes alive. I then
tell them to make a plan for your life. If you fail to plan for your life you plan to fail in your life. All
successful people have a plan. We call them strategies. Every time anyone walks thru the doors, they

"jobs, growth, price stability, and economic security in the United States all depend substantially on

Changes In Brazil
ver time, human development and distribution can be drastically changed and differed according to
human and environmental factors. This has very much been the case in Brazil. Over the course of
many years major cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have seen a significant increase in
population density, but the creation of Brasilia and government funding of northern cities such as
Manaus has also caused an evident shift in population distribution. This change has been created as
a result of increase in government funding in projects such as urbanization of northern cities, job
opportunities, harsh physical features and both internal and external migration. Northern cities such
as Belem and Porto Velho have seen a big increase in population ... Show more content on

Major cities in the south east have large populations of immigrants. In fact, Sao Paulo has a
population of around 12 million with 1 million of those being Japanese immigrants or of Japanese
descents, the most out of anyone else in the world. With more and more people coming into Sao
Paulo and other eastern cities like Rio, the population increased and continues increasing. Now with
so many immigrants in the south–east, natives to Brazil are having to move west and north to find
jobs and spread the population out, causing this shift in density. Brasilia is one of those cities.
Created in attempt to spread out the population as a result of those growing numbers. Today 23
million people live there demonstrating a major shift in population distribution. Brazil also has the
second largest number of German immigrants/descendents with a total of 12 million, most of which
are found on the eastern seaboard. Some have moved farther north into the state of Espirito Santo,
but not far north enough to see a significant shift from immigrants. Portuguese colonists settled in
the north and west, a lot of the immigrants move to those locations to stay with family/people of
their region. Italians and Lebanese have also followed them since they are more of a minority and
seek employment elsewhere. If more immigrants would follow than the distribution would have a
drastic change, but for now that is yet to come. The reason for such a large number of immigrants,
especially of European heritage, is that since Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery which
was free work, they advertised a lot of cheap work to do in Brazil. Those in need of the money
and/or change followed and settled where the most work was needed. Hence why there is such a
large concentration of descendant and immigrants in the south–east region

Essay On Sediment Fingerprinting

  • 1. Essay On Sediment Fingerprinting Abstract: The growing awareness of the environmental significance of fine–grained sediment fluxes in fluvial systems continues to underscore the need for reliable information on the principal sources. Traditional monitoring techniques are unable to solve the source estimation alone and had many spatial and temporal limits, but sediment source fingerprinting method has emerged as a potentially valuable supplement to address these issues. Despite the rapidly increasing numbers of studies reporting that the use of sediment source fingerprinting method has several key challenges and uncertainties continue to hamper the existing methodological procedures. This review identifies existing methodological steps for sediment fingerprinting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2016). Quantitative information on the sources of sediment is key to developing effective erosion control measures to maximize sediment reduction. However, such information is extremely limited due to difficulties in direct measurement of sediment source contributions from various sources within a watershed (Zhang and Liu 2016). Generally, there are two ways in determining the source of sediment. One is to use traditional techniques such as erosion pins or unit source plots or small watersheds to estimate sediment provenance from a source type (e.g. gully, overland erosion source). These methods possibly meet some of these information requirements, but they have several limitations such as the representativeness of the obtained data, their spatial and temporal resolution, associated spatial patterns over extended areas, and costs as well. Moreover, traditional monitoring and modelling methods for soil erosion dynamics involved many parameters and long– term measurement. For example, to obtain long–term erosion data in agroecosystems, experimental plots must be carried out over decades to integrate the inter–annual variability of climate and cropping practices (Mabit et al. 1999). Another way to estimate sediment source contributions is to use sediment source fingerprinting. The fingerprinting method has been used at many spatial scales, ranging from a plot to a large river basin (Koiter et al. 2013; Laceby and Olley 2015; Walling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The painting describes an injunctive atmosphere created by a lovely couple around an almost rectangular table with round edges inside a dark room with a few sources of light. The painting applies the best technique of handling that portrays visible brush strokes to present a coarse kind of a portrait. The painter uses very fade lights to define the boundaries of the objects and bring the portrait in a real life picture. He also uses a strong contrast between the bright colors, which appear to mimic one another and dark ones as can be seen on the tabletop, the skin colors, the walls and ground surfaces. • 7. Mission Brazil Essay Sean arrived in Brazil amidst a flurry of activity surrounding the opening of Mission Brazil's newest consulate in Porto Alegre. The new consulate got built from a shell of a gutted market building and required a modern IT infrastructure to support the communication systems. The building also needed every Department of State IT system installed as well as a qualified staff to maintain the equipment. Sean took advantage of this rare opportunity and demonstrated his ability to lead, multitask, and manage these projects from beginning to end. Additionally, Sean worked with his colleagues in Brasilia and developed a highly skilled team to support IRM operations for the new consulate. Since new missions occur infrequently, many departments in Washington have little experience organizing IT installation projects for new facilities. Sean identified, no small task, the people responsible for the numerous areas, quickly formed contacts and identified the requirements to install these systems, to include the remediation of incorrectly installed contractor equipment and infrastructure. Because Sean got his contact information organized early it allowed him to better plan which ensured his projects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of his experience developing OJT programs, his new team got trained on the essential IT systems they need to support well in advance of the official opening. Subsequently, his plan gave an added benefit to the Embassy. Due to unexpected staff departures, Brazil's telephone operations dropped 75%. Sean recognized the problem and worked with his Porto Alegre team to lend the needed support. • 9. American Imperialism : America 's Foreign Policy American Imperialism America wanted to expand their foreign policy to help boost their economy. They felt threatened because not only did they have to compete with countries like Germany and Japan to secure access to Chinese markets. The first foreign policy the U.S. had was the Monroe Doctrine, which closed the Western Hemisphere to further colonization from European countries. This secured the U.S. foreign trade with Central America. The American foreign policy warned European nations to stay away from the Western Hemisphere while the U.S. also competed for trade in the Eastern Hemisphere. America's interest with China's market grew and they became more aggressive to secure their presence in Asia, which almost brought them to war with Germany. In the 1890's China was split into portions of influence by the European nations so Secretary of State John Hay recommended the Open Door Policy, which promised access to trade to all major powers in China instead of splitting China into portions. In 1895 Cuba rebelled against Spain to declare their independence. Americans were outraged with the Spanish after they had killed off a quarter of the Cuban population. Newspapers flooded with propaganda and pressure for the U.S. to intervene and help the Cuban revolution. Americans felt that it was there duty to help Cuba and freeing them from Spain's control. Not only did they feel it was the humanitarian thing to do but the Cuban rebellion also damaged American business in Cuba. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The suddenly joined vineyards hold some delightful terroirs. Because the economic domination of the Port trade it is only lately that these have been broadly oppressed to produce premium wines. Table wine has continuously been made here but, with a couple of noteworthy omissions, it has been unattractive stuff, typically badly made from low quality grapes that were leftover to the requirements of Port producers. Numerous factors have united to change this situation. Most significantly, a critical mass of concurring winemakers has arisen, passionate about making the very best wines that these extraordinary terroirs are proficient of. Dirk Niepoort has been a key player in current developments in the region. As well as producing some dazzlingly expressive Douro wines himself, he has been acting as a ingredient by inspiring the leading wine producers to get together and spur each other on to better things. (Goode, Jamie). "A few years later, events conspired to escalate the exports of Portuguese wine to England. In 1667 Colbert, first minister of Louis XIV, embarked on a series of measures to restrict the import of English goods into France. This provoked Charles II of England into increasing the duty on French wines and later forbidding their import altogether, obliging the English wine trade to seek alternative sources ... • 13. Should College Athletes Get Paid Essay Should College Athletes Get Paid? Would you like to work harder in college sports if you got paid? I know I would. I'm talking about this topic because I think it's important that the college athletes get something for themselves. College athletes should get paid because some of them are tempted to gamble or accept illegal payments, they win games for their university in the premier sport, and they do the same stuff as professional athletes. The college athlete should not get paid because the school pays for the them to go to school (Joe Smith). The teenagers are getting a free education that many people can't pay to earn. They go to school for free and get to play their favorite sport. The social cost of college sports are high (Porto, Brian L.). These students should be more active in their classes and they wouldn't gamble as much because they have to do school work. Freshman eligibility and annually renewable athletic scholarships turn the NCAA's ideal of the "student–athlete" on its head (Porto, Brian L.). These students should be more focused on book work. College has all of their priorities backwards. They force college students who play varsity sports to be athletes first and students second, if at all (Porto, Brian L.). • 15. Suicide In Romeo And Juliet Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is one play in a series of stories about two young lovers with feuding families. The first known story was in the fifth century A.D., not printed until 1726, called Ephesiaca by Xenophon of Ephesus. The wife is separated from her husband and to avoid marrying another man, she takes a sleeping potion. She wakes up in a tomb and is carried off for other adventures. Based on this story is Masuccio's Il Novellino of 1476. It is an Italian story about Mariotto and Giannozza. A Friar secretly marries them, and then Mariotto kills an important citizen and is exiled to Alexandria. Giannozza takes a sleeping potion to avoid marrying a man of her fathers choosing and after being buried, sneaks away to Alexandria. Pirates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is beheaded and Giannozza comes back and dies in a convent. The sequences of events in this story are very similar to Romeo and Juliet. However, there is no mention of feuding families and the lovers do not commit suicide. In 1530 Luigi da Porto published Historia novellamente ritrovata di due Nobili Amanti based on Masuccio's story but set in Verona with feuding families, the Montecchi and the Cappelletti. Romeo meets Giulietta at a Carnival ball and forgets about an unrequited love he has for another girl. They see each other at church and Romeo visits her chamber window. Romeo mistakes Giulietta's sleeping for her death and kills himself. When Giulietta wakes she "drew in her breath and held it long, and then, uttering a great cry, fell dead on the corpse of Romeo." It lacks characters comparable to the Nurse and Benvolio but Mercutio has an undeveloped counterpart in this narrative, named Marcuccio. Inspired by Porto, Matteo Bandello wrote Novelle in 1554. In this version, Julietta wants to run off with the banished Romeo but he forbids it. Romeo writes a letter to his father explaining everything when he learns the false news that Julietta is dead. Science and technology are solving the issues of food production and – yet it has many problematic consequences to the environment sustainability – it is not reasonable that we face so many people starving in undeveloped countries anymore, especially the young children, the ones who need the most effective and healthy nutrition. Was America Justified In Making Hawaii Justified In many ways America was justifiable in making Hawaii apart of their territory due to the fact that they were not large enough to self govern themselves and could benefit from trading resources. Albert Beveridge who was an American historian stated that "the rule of liberty that all just government derives its authority from the consent of the governed, applies only to those who are capable of self government" (Text 3). This meant that if a country did not have the power to rule themselves, that they have no say in whether or not someone can take them over. • 23. Should College Athletes Be Paid? There is a debate on whether college athletes should be paid. It has been known that the fewer scholarships given to student–athletes increase their competiveness on the field, which shows us that keeping money away from student–athletes makes them more competitive (Baird 2). There is also a case that student–athletes are being robbed because they are not receiving compensation for their own likeness (Holthaugh JR. 1). Television networks are paying millions for the rights to show big games on TV, which shows us that student–athletes are the entertainers with no compensation (Bowen 1). Allen Sack informs us that there have been cases where some athletes in the NCAA get injured before they finish their career and don't make it to the pros due to the loss of their scholarship, which shows us that the NCAA is exploiting student–athletes Sack 2).The NCAA should require schools to pay for sports–related injuries in any serious injury, because it can determine if they will make it to the NFL (Huma 1). Athletes are accepting illegal pay, because they see the universities making all of the money, which shows us that poor student–athletes are in need of compensation (Porto 1). Adrian Peterson thinks that college athletes should be paid because he fought through injuries and did not make a penny from his years at Oklahoma, which shows us that student–athletes who make it to the NFL have injuries that they are fighting through during the combine (Haislop 2). Essay On Representative Democracy Throughout this essay I am to outline what a direct democracy would look like in modern Ireland and show both the advantages and disadvantages of this type of democracy in comparison to representative democracy. I will be arguing that, despite its flaws, some aspects of direct democracy should be implemented into the current representative democracy which exists in Ireland. I will be primarily using the writings of Karl Marx, other Marxist philosophers and Aristotle to reference my answer. These writings are undoubtably still relevant today as these teachings so heavily effected future civilizations. College athletes should be paid because the universities, colleges, apparel companies, T.V networks and athletic conferences they are playing for are making millions of dollars and the players get very little of that money. Also playing a college sport is like a full time job and athletes do not have time to make money to pay for a sufficient day–to–day life. Impact of Agricultural Trade liberalization on Poverty in Latin America Historically the agricultural sector has been an important sector for the economies of Latin America because of this the issue of global agricultural trade liberalization has been a hotly contested issue. Some suggest it may harm Latin American countries and increase poverty by opening up the sector to foreign competition from more technological advanced nations. Others have argued that it will increase economic competitiveness and reduce poverty by promoting an increase in exports, job creation and by improving economic productivity in the sector. Research into this question suggests that global agricultural trade liberalization may reduce poverty overall in Latin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, many have observed that the decline of agricultural sector in the US signalled the rise an urban industrial society seen today. Furthermore, some studies estimate that the agricultural sector is 3.2 times better at reducing poverty when compared to other sectors of the economy when the size of the sector is considered (Christiaensen, Demery, Kuhl, 2011). This may be due to the high levels of participation of the extreme poor in agricultural industries (Christiaensen et al., 2011). Growth in the agricultural sector is also known to have significant spillover effects into other sectors of the economy and to disproportionately benefit the poorest citizens in many cases (Valdés, Foster, 2010). All this is relevant to Latin America due its relatively large agricultural sector and its longstanding struggle with poverty that dates back many decades. Latin America is known for its high level of inequality and high rates of poverty. For example, in the 1980's the poor made up 19% of the continent's population (Cardoso, Helwege, 1992) with roughly 8% living on a dollar a day (Anderson, Cockburn, Martin, 2011). Its strategic location made it a must have territory to the Spaniards who colonized it over four hundred years before the United States took a special interest. It all started in the year 1898, with the Treaty of Paris Puerto Rico now is property of the United States. After centuries of being led by Sevilla and Madrid, Puerto Rico was now forced to look upon Washington. The series of events leading the Spanish–American War changed Puerto Rico permanently. From changing the Island's name from Porto Rico to Puerto Rico to Americanizing the Puerto Rican people in all ways possible, the acquisition of Puerto Rico from the United States had numerous economic, social and political impacts. Records show that Puerto Ricans were doubtful that the Spanish would grant them the autonomy that was promised to them on 1987. Our body is our living memory, constantly modified by new experiences. It's not like a museum or an old trunk where we put away our memories. The body is, actually, something that's always renewed by the present. In this essay I've chosen to discuss movement patterns or habits that are part of the procedural memory. Movement patterns can be considered the neurological and muscular organization that underlies the motor responses of our body. Sometimes, these motor responses are conditioned and it's hard to obtain different answers, even for different stimulus. This can be a trap during the process of creating choreography. Kandel (2009) identifies three main forms in the process of learning: habituation, sensitization and conditioning. From the studies of physiologist Ivan Pavlov (1849–1936), Kandel (2009) argues that these forms of learning occur from the association of a stimulus with another stimulus or a stimulus with a response. Habituation occurs when the repetition of a stimulus leads to suppression of a response. Sensitization is the reverse. In this case, we learn to give attention to a stimulus ... A study conducted by the Institute for Safe Medical Practices (2004) found that 39% of the nurses encountered reluctance or refusal to answer questions or return phone calls or pages; 40% reported condescending language or voice intonation; and 42% reported impatience with questions on the part of physicians (Longo, 2010). Due to their status of being seen as revenue generators for the hospital, physicians have long been in positions of power within healthcare systems. Because of this, their disruptive behaviors may be ignored or the physician may be treated more leniently than other staff members. Hospital administrators historically have reinforced these behaviors by giving in to the demands of the physician (Longo, 2010). Disruptive behavior may affect the nurse in the form of stress, frustration, lack of concentration, breakdown in communication, and impaired information transfer (Iyer, n.d. ). Edwards (2007) describes the physiological and psychological consequences of bullying: anxiety, panic attacks, aggression, feeling of dread, headaches, increased blood pressure, and loss of ... You have to change the way you think about yourself and the way you handle things, such as yourself, your emotions, your finance, and your relationships in order to be successful in life. You must know your purpose. People who don't know their purpose are like people who fight with their eyes closed, they are just beating the air and hitting nothing. I tell them in order to find your purpose, you must find what you are passionate about. Find what you love to do and you will then have found your purpose. When passion develops purpose comes alive. I then tell them to make a plan for your life. If you fail to plan for your life you plan to fail in your life. All successful people have a plan. We call them strategies. • 77. Changes In Brazil ver time, human development and distribution can be drastically changed and differed according to human and environmental factors. This has very much been the case in Brazil. Over the course of many years major cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have seen a significant increase in population density, but the creation of Brasilia and government funding of northern cities such as Manaus has also caused an evident shift in population distribution. This change has been created as a result of increase in government funding in projects such as urbanization of northern cities, job opportunities, harsh physical features and both internal and external migration. Northern cities such as Belem and Porto Velho have seen a big increase in population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Major cities in the south east have large populations of immigrants. In fact, Sao Paulo has a population of around 12 million with 1 million of those being Japanese immigrants or of Japanese descents, the most out of anyone else in the world. With more and more people coming into Sao Paulo and other eastern cities like Rio, the population increased and continues increasing. Now with so many immigrants in the south–east, natives to Brazil are having to move west and north to find jobs and spread the population out, causing this shift in density. Brasilia is one of those cities. Created in attempt to spread out the population as a result of those growing numbers. Today 23 million people live there demonstrating a major shift in population distribution. Brazil also has the second largest number of German immigrants/descendents with a total of 12 million, most of which are found on the eastern seaboard. Some have moved farther north into the state of Espirito Santo, but not far north enough to see a significant shift from immigrants. Portuguese colonists settled in the north and west, a lot of the immigrants move to those locations to stay with family/people of their region. Italians and Lebanese have also followed them since they are more of a minority and seek employment elsewhere. If more immigrants would follow than the distribution would have a drastic change, but for now that is yet to come. The reason for such a large number of immigrants, especially of European heritage, is that since Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery which was free work, they advertised a lot of cheap work to do in Brazil. Those in need of the money and/or change followed and settled where the most work was needed. Hence why there is such a large concentration of descendant and immigrants in the south–east region ...
