1. Reflective Essay On Time Management
When I first evaluated myself in the study skill academic test, time management was my weakest
skill overall. This was priority in terms of skill development because I would always leave things
till the last minute and stress myself out trying to turn in things on time. In order to improve this
I made a smart goal to carry out in the beginning of the year. Now after some time, the results of
my progression are shown. My smart goal that I created for myself regarding my time
management planned out very well, I was able to successfully accomplish a majority of my
assignments on time. I would review the material of the week on Monday's and compile all of the
assignments due for the week. The monthly calendar was also a key factor in helping me keep up
to date in the month so see what where upcoming tasks the following week. If I needed more
clarification on certain tasks then I would login and check the syllabus. After making sure of the
material due, I would distribute the workload throughout the week based on the weight of an
assignment. For example, I would have a small essay that was assigned on Monday but due until
Friday. I would break apart the essay in multiple days so that I would not have to complete the
entire essay in one sitting giving myself more time to work on other subjects. So for essays I
would typically give myself about one hour and a half or so each day to work on it and have it
scheduled for completion by Friday afternoon. Honestly just making a plan

Managing my time was difficult at those weeks as it meant planning how to use the space provided
in the diary, the style (font style) and presentation to allocate appropriate times for modules,
meetings, and appointments, all of these must be effective and realistic to suite my life style. In
addition, those weeks seems as an unpleasant challenge rather a positive experience to be a
university student. I had little time to spend visiting and using the university facilities, which proved
to aid my education in the following weeks (wk 5–9). At the same time I tried compressing my
available time for coursework research, preparation (making notes) before a particular lecture or
assignments (e.g. cell biology essay), and keeping track of future assignments, etc. As a resulted it
affected my sleeping time and lead to a lack of concentration during lectures, which suggested my
time management was not suitable for me. In week 5 after attempting the human physiology MCQ, I
scored below my average standards, which confirmed my time management wasn't helping me at all
and that my study skills need to improve too, therefore a change was taken seriously by cutting down
nearly half the hours spent with structured and un–structured leisure, i.e. cutting down on TV,

Time Management is the control and focus of a person's actions for the purpose of improving
efficiency.
Time management techniques typically involve setting goals, establishing priorities, budgeting the
amount of time allotted to a given activity, and planning and scheduling the steps needed to achieve
goals.
Generally, time management refers to the development of processes and tools that increase efficiency
and productivity.
When we think of time management, we tend to think of personal time management, loosely defined
as managing our time to waste less time on doing the things we have to do so we have more time to
do the things that we want to do.
Therefore, time management is often thought of or presented as a set of time...show more content...
It is, therefore, essential to plan one's work and that of the subordinates in an efficient manner and
also identify 'Time Wasters' and make efforts to eliminate/reduce them. Examples of Time Wasters
are:
(i) In fructuous meetings
(ii) Poor communication
(iii) Unwanted visitors
(iv) Disorganised work
The basic cause of time wastage at work can be classified as follows:
(a) Over–staffing is common cause of wastage of time. Since most of the people do not have clearly
defined work for the whole day, they often obstruct each other and create unnecessary problems.
(b) Time is wasted on account of faulty organisation of work. Work is not planned sufficiently in
advance.
(c) There is enormous wastage of time and effort due to various meetings often at various locations,
which are not properly directed and drag on endlessly.
(d) Time is often wasted because the relevant information is not readily available or the information
available is inaccurate. Similarly collection, storage and distribution of unnecessary information is
5. wasteful.
Though one has to evolve one's own technique of time management depending on the circumstances,
the three cardinal principles are:
(a) Span of Attention:
There is a natural limit to how long one can concentrate on a particular activity or task. This is called
span of attention.
(b) Provisions of time in adequate chunks:

Avoiding and not dealing with everyday stressors can lead to work and other situations piling up
and becoming severely overwhelming. Excessive negative stress and anxiety can be detrimental to a
student's physical and psychological impairment (Misra, 2000, 2). The key to handling stress and
class workloads is an effective time management schedule.
Time Management Techniques
The concept of time management is explained as behaviors that are believed to aid in productivity
and alleviate stress (Misra, 2000, 2). Implementing time management strategies helps to organize the
aspects of your life, therefore allowing yourself time to complete all the tasks necessary to reduce
your stress level. In completing the tasks in a scheduled and organized fashion a student will also
enhance their academic performance and achievement. Time management behaviors consist of
starting large assignments well before their due dates, breaking down large assignments into small
ones, and completing small tasks on a regular schedule. Other effective tactics include setting goals
and priorities, the use of lists and mechanics, an organized workplace, and the perceived control of
time (Misra, 2000, 2). Studies conducted on college students have shown that while using these
management strategies reduced their levels of stress, females were more apt to respond to them

Time Management refers to making the best use of time as time is always limited. Time Management
plays a very important role not only in organizations but also in our personal lives. (Management
Study Guide)
Time Management includes:
1.Effective Planning
2.Setting goals and objectives
3.Setting deadlines
4.Delegation of responsibilities
5.Prioritizing activities as per their importance
6.Spending the right time on the right activity
Effective planning:
Plan your day well in advance. Prepare a To Do List or a "TASK PLAN". Jot down the important
activities that need to be done in a single day against the time that should be allocated to each
activity. High Priority work should come on top followed by those which do not need much of your
importance at the moment. Complete pending tasks one by one. Do not begin fresh work unless you
have finished your previous task. Tick the ones you have already completed. Ensure you finish the
tasks within the stipulated time frame (Management Study Guide).
Setting goals and objectives:
Working without goals and targets in an organization would be similar to a situation where the
captain of the ship loses his way in the sea. Yes, you would be lost. Set targets for yourself and
make sure they are realistic ones and achievable (Management Study Guide).
Setting deadlines
Set deadlines for yourself and strive hard to complete tasks ahead of the deadlines. Do not

Time management is a term that is used to describe ones use of productive time. Time
management is all relative to the perception of the task needing to be accomplished. Is the project
long or short term? Is this something that needs to be done in a timeframe? Is this a personal goal
or is it a demand of a superior? Defining time management and applying it to my life has created
some questions of how well I succeed as an employee, student, mother and wife while creating a
balance between obligation and time. My goals are to be the best person I can be for my family

It appears to be a non–constructive time. I had never thought about setting that time aside to ask
myself, "what could I do with that part of my day to be more efficient?" After consideration, I
realized the time I am watching the news, I genuinely was planning my day and creating a
detailed map for each portion of the day. My job is divided into a split shift. The afternoons are
spent at work and not with my family doing homework, bath time and the necessary preparations
for the next day. I feel disconnected from that part of my family's day. If I could work less or
restructure the end of my day, then that would create a connection and fulfill my family's needs.
When I complete my academic/professional goals and receive my college diploma then the
adjustment in my profession will evolve naturally. To execute my plan efficiently and to become
more accountable, keeping a time log journal and taking personal time to write down my daily
map instead of just reviewing it mentally. A visualization of the plan will help in its execution.
Reading the daily map aloud is another way I lock information into my memory. I would like to
monitor my success and remain on task by using a timer while keeping me aware of the time used,
creating a short term goal. The timer also will create a sense of urgency to get things accomplished
without losing focus. Last, the development of a support system would encourage me to be

Before we can manage our time we must know exactly what time is. The dictionary describes it as,
the duration of one's life; the hours and days which a person has at his disposal. How we dispose of
that time is time management. It's the way we spend our time to organize and execute around our
priorities. Remember just because time is intangible doesn't mean that it is not valuable. I want to
teach you about the background of time management, the different styles and how to use them, and
how it will change your life.
"Time is a convenient concept invented to mark our days more precisely than morning, noon,
and night. In ancient times it was measured with shadow sticks and sundials. Now we use clocks.
Regardless of devise, time can't be managed. It passes. That's it." (Pamela Dodd). How
convenience for many of us would be, if instead of one day having 24 hours it would at least be 32
hours? Sometimes I think to myself 24 hours in one day are not enough to accomplish all my needs.
Being in the United States Army for almost two years have taught me how to be discipline mentally

Time Management Strategies
Time management has been one of the greatest hurdles of my scholastic career. Sadly it improves
gradually. Procrastination was the name of the game for me for a while. Needless to say, I had
poor time management skills. I would often wonder why I would let myself do this almost every
time I had to do something. I didn't like the trend I was in and I needed another way to get things
done. Then I realized that being a procrastinator only hindered my potential of becoming the

my ability. I have taken some classes in the past that dealt with this subject. So all the tricks of the

Another big factor in being a better time manager is to realize where you are wasting time. If you
can figure out where all your time is going then you can focus on what you can do to improve
your ability to seize the day! Finding your faults in the lack of time efficiency is the first step in
becoming a brilliant time manager and a productive person. I have found some interesting tips and
models showing what other people use or do to improve their time management. Most tips were
repetitive but very useful. What I am going to do is name off ten tips from the five sources that I
have narrowed down to use in my research. All of these tips are not in any sort of order of
importance. Number one is probably my favorite time management tool. Number one is implement
a time management plan. "The objective is to change your behaviors over time to achieve
whatever general goal you've set for yourself, such as increasing your productivity or decreasing
your stress. So you need to not only set your specific goals, but track them over time to see whether
or not you're accomplishing them.1" This is such good reasoning. This one goes after the source,
your own daily behaviors. Once you have your plan in place, it is time to implement that plan. If
you are not used to planning things out then you need to do some

Since I learned how to write the task came relatively easy to me. I have no problem putting my
thoughts onto paper or doing the necessary research to give accurate information. However, I
struggled with punctuation, run on sentences, sentence fragments, comma splices and most recently
to–be verbs. I can get information down easily enough, and I have a good flow to my papers.
However, time management and procrastination set potentially A plus papers back a lot.
For my research paper "Women's Rights around the World" I procrastinated until the last possible
moment to finish it. I had done my research and planning but not the actual writing of it making my
paper rushed and unedited. According to Gamauf in his article on time management, "one element
that can help you with your time management activities is planning." Just writing what you need to
do on your phone or calendar can help you get organized. I would need to sit down after getting
the assignment and make a schedule and adhere to that schedule so that I don't write my paper in
the middle of the night. I could plan ahead and make an appointment with a tutor along the way to
get a fresh pair of eyes on my paper and much–needed advice. I also need to self–analyze "This
process requires you to first examine what areas you are struggling with, figure out how you learn
best and in what ways you have overcome similar struggles in the past and make the proper
decisions to do what is best for you" ("Feeling Overwhelmed?").

In today's world, the average student has an attention span of about ten to fifteen minutes. So,
time management is essential to keep on track and keep students on the path to success. After
analyzing my schedule, I realized that while my day is packed there is room to move stuff
around to help me have a more efficient day. However, between procrastination, sleeping, and
Netflix I am often pulled away from the things that are necessary for me to have a productive day.
This assignment has showed me what aspects of my day I manage well and what aspects could use
some serious work. The downfalls of my time management mostly revolve around technology. On
average, I was spending about three to four hours on Netflix alone. Obviously, this is not the best
thing to be doing with my free time. Also, most of the time I was watching Netflix before going to
sleep which probably had some effect on why I was falling asleep later, on average about 11–12 PM.
I believe that if I cut down on Netflix and stop watching it right before bed I would be able to get
more sleep and would not nap so often. With naps taking up about two hours of my day on average
it is taking up time that I could be using to study. If I could adjust these I would have more time to
study throughout the day and would not be up so late studying and putting myself into this
continuous bad time management cycle. I also seem to lose a lot of a valuable time on social media
and my phone. Often, I have the intentions to

Time Management Reflection Paper The consequences of improper time management based on my

both personal and professional success. Time is a valuable resource and once lost cannot be

is not possible, the only solution to this dilemma is the proper utilization of time which is absolutely

After reviewing my rough plan, the next step was to begin with organizing my priorities. This
step is important because priorities are going to change based on the time available because as
we all know time is a fickle thing. I have divided my priorities into three categories from high,
medium and low. High priorities are priorities that will take away most of my time and energy
and is crucial for my success in the DH program. The most obvious high priority is going to be
focusing on school and school related work from allocating time for study to completing
assignments and homework. My goal here is to complete these tasks based on the due dates and
to not put off any assignments to the last minute. Reviewing and studying before and after school
each day is going to help me achieve this goal. Besides school, another high priority is making the
time to spend with family/friends. The time spend however little it maybe say an hour during
dinner with family/ friends will help me unwind and take a break from what is going to be a
mentally and physically challenging program. Hence, it is important to balance these top priorities,
as these priorities both go hand in hand with each other and will help me achieve overall success.
Medium priorities are priorities that will also

Time management seems to be an issue that many people struggle with. It is important to learn to

work. It is important for me to utilize this time so that I am able to succeed in my classes.
Another way to make sure everything is finished is by setting time aside each day to work diligently
on schoolwork. I have a schedule for each day. I wake up and do my prayers then get ready for work.
Once I arrive at work, I complete my tasks for the day then I work on school work. During my

Anyone who commits to furthering their education while continuing to work will definitely

Even though there may be very little an individual can actually do with regards to time management
