Successful Student Essay
Characteristics of a Successful Student.
Are you a student who wants to be successful? All people can be good successful students, if they
try hard and use self discipline to push them self harder. Being a successful student doesn't mean
you are so smart you get to skip grades, it just means that you get good marks, work well with
others, and don't get held back any grades. If you are a person who wants to keep your life on track,
it takes hard work, determination, and patience.
Being a successful student may involve some of the characteristics such as: organization, time,
studying, and believing you can achieve.
Organization means using your space wisely. Using things like computers to hold lots of information

Studying skills will help you be more successful as well, there is also to much studying. To much
studying can cause stress, and dense learning habits, also pushing your self to hard may ruin
learning skills and cause your self to feel bad, or not as intelligent. Study skills for tests, quizzes,
and exams is very important. Evenly spreading out study time will increase memory of the
subjects you learn. Taking frequent breaks will make studying less stressful. Using flash cards,
web sites, computers, or just a pencil and paper are all great ways to study. Having an answer sheet
to refer to, and look over when your done will also help study and learning skills because it can help
you see what you did wrong and need to fix. Having a study group or club before big tests, like
exams or diplomas, will help you have more fun with your friends when studying.
Also study at home with adults to help you. Having friends to study with will increase your
enjoyment of learning, and learning to learn. Doing homework right after you get home from school
is good because you might still remember what to do and what you need to study. Doing
homework in the morning can make it less likely for you to sleep or enjoy your day. If you enjoy
writing or reading a job may be based on writing in a future date, but if you dislike reading you
might want a job such as a doctor.

Essay on Effective Communication Skills
Introduction
An important step to becoming an effective leader is to develop effective communication skills.
Communication is the transmission of meaning from one person to another or to many people,
whether verbally or non–verbally (Barrett, 2006). Effective communication enables leaders to lead.
Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea that
the sender intended to covey. As a leader, studying the communication process is important.
Communication skills, including the ability to problem solve, work in teams, and adapt to various
audiences, are critical in today's workplace (Levy& Murname, 2004). Since the most successful
leaders communicate well, understanding how your...show more content...
The IHC instrument consists of 27 statements. Using a 5–point scale with 1 being strongly agree and
5 being strongly disagree, I rated each of the 27 statements. A score between 109 and 135
indicates an excellent understanding of the communication process. A score between 82 and 108
means there are a few areas that need some work while a score between 54 and 81 suggests there
are several areas that need attention. A score between 27and 53 implies across the board
improvement is needed. This instrument heightened my understanding of my role as a sender and a
receiver. It highlighted the importance of asking questions and providing feedback in order to
promote clarity. It stressed the significance of non–verbal communication so that I not only hear, but
also see what is being communicated to me. Finally, I learned the impact of using the appropriate
communication channels for maximum effectiveness.
Next, I used an updated version of Mok's (1975) Communication Style, to determine my
communication style (see Appendix B). The Mok survey was modified by Hartman and
McCambridge (2010) using insights from Alessandra and Hunsaker (1993) and Merrill and Reid
(1999). I chose this survey instrument because it has been used in both academia and executive
development programs over the last several years. The reason this particular tool is popular in both
academia and business is because it highlights the

Servant Leadership Essay
Servant Leadership
What is it? The phrase "Servant Leadership" was coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in The Servant as
a Leader, an essay he first published in 1970 ("What is servant," ). The servant leader serves first,
while aspiring to lead second. The servant leader serves the people that he or she leads, implying
employees are an end in themselves rather than a means to organizational purpose or bottom–line.
Servant leadership is meant to replace a command and control, top–down, model of management.
Servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power
and empowerment. A few famous examples of servant leaders are George Washington, Gandi and
Caesar Chavez.
Key Principles In a...show more content...
8.Stewardship
Greenleaf's view of all institutions was one in which CEO's, staff, directors and trustees all play
significant roles in holding institutions in trust for the greater good of society.
9.Commitment to the Growth of People
Leaders believe people have an intrinsic value beyond tangible contributions as workers. As a result,
genuine interest in the spiritual, professional and personal growth of all employees is demonstrated.
10.Building Community
Leaders seek to identify a means for building a sense of community among those who work in a
given institution.
Differences from Other Styles In the approach on general leadership characteristics, the
fundamental difference is authentic leaderships strive to be "real", whereas servant leaders strive
to be "right." Servant leadership is a style that lays down a set of characteristics that all leaders are
supposed to emulate to attain success, and tries to shape the character and personality of the leader.
On the other hand, authentic leaders tend to rely on their own unique set of experiences and style
that has been learned and developed throughout their career. The main difference between servant
and authentic styles, when applying into practice, is the serving of others. One of the primary
applications is to give priority to the interest of others. Servant leaders exercise their duty

How to Be A Good Student Essay
How to Be A Good Student
To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life.
Becoming a good student takes much work and self–discipline. There are many ways that a student
can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude,
intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.
Attitude is primarily a genuine desire to learn and the will to do hard academic work to achieve
understanding. It is also shown by how well you apply yourself even to subjects in which you have
little interest and how much you can achieve even when a teacher's style is not what you are used to.
Also attitude can change the way you percieveperceive things...show more content...
No one else can help you to attain a good attitude, you must decide and make it a goal to have a
good attitude in your student life. (CS)
Intellectual skills is (S–V Agr) another important aspect of becoming a good student. This skill
includes the ability to read and understand, intelligent use of resources, mathematical and logical
skills, efficient study habits, and the ability to communicate clearly and fluently. Intellectual skills
include time management, exam strategies, study strategies, and goal setting.
Consciousness, or awareness, is another helpful aspect of becoming a good student. The good
student must be aware of their (agr) surroundings and know what is going on in the world around
them. We must strive to relate what is happening around us to what we are learning. This should be
important to us because we should care about what is going on politically, academically, socially,
and spiritually. Being aware and paying attention is a good trait to continually learn and apply.
Achievement is demonstrated by successful application of understanding. This aspect includes using
correct and confident knowledge, effective communication, and continuanceing of education through
out your life. Achievement gives you a sense of accomplishment and meaning. To become a good
student, this must be a goal that you wish to accomplish.
Becoming a good student can be time consuming but well worth

Ethnographic Observation
Ethnographic Observation TSL 4520
Grading Rubric
Background (Milde, R., 2001)
Common wisdom tells us that there are, in general, two kinds of writing: creative and expository.
Creative writing tells about feelings, opinions, points of view, things that originate inside the writer.
Expository essays tell about facts, things outside of the writer. Essays on literature examine a literary
text, a thing outside the writer. Lab reports describe experiments with chemicals and other stuff that
really exists and can be measured. Research is factual; fiction, poetry, and the personal story are
emotional.
Wrong. Writing is not that simple. The farther you go in your academic or professional career, the
less you are able to simply report what...show more content...
What are its rituals, credos, myths, symbols, taboos, deities/higher powers? What are its origins?
How does it tie into/affect/is affected by the politics, law, economy, ethics, history, and gender of the
encompassing society? Be aware of ethnocentrism; describe and understand but do not judge. Study
what people believe, not whether or not what they believe is true. Guiding question
Guiding questions are aimed at the basic point of ethnography: gaining the world view of a group of
people.
A common format for a guiding questions might be:
How do members of a particular group perceive of or understand a certain social or cultural
phenomenon? (This is often seen through behavior of some kind.)
Thesis statement Your thesis statement should contain a mini–outline of the paper; this outline
consists of several sub–claims for which evidence must be provided. How do you know what you
claimed to know.
Observing and taking notes:
It's best to take notes during the observation. If that is impractical, take notes immediately afterward.
Summarizing your memories of an event is not what ethnographic observation calls for (though it's
okay in journalism or memoir). You want to get down detailed, specific, observations, on details
such as: * examples of speech (see the warning below about privacy) * clothing * ways of greeting,
initiating conversation, beginning and ending an event * body language, gestures * the physical

Essay On Storytelling
Lyndsay Miller
Ms. Williams
English 12
10 November 2014
Storytelling
Storytelling is the oral tradition of sharing stories and recounting events of the past. It is an ancient
art form and is a dear form of human expression (What is). Most historians and psychologists alike
agree that storytelling is one of the many things binding and defining humanity as we know it
because everything revolves around storytelling in one form or another. Humans are possibly the
only animals capable of creating and telling stories.
Though it is known that the history of storytelling is quite ancient, stories still play a crucial part
of our societies and cultures. Its influence is in almost every aspect of human life whether it be
movies, books, music, news, religion, or art. Stories are what define us and our morals, our dreams,
our prejudices, and our desires. Typically, oral stories are handed down generation to generation. It
is not known who or when the first story was told, much less what the first story was (History).
The history of storytelling is not one that can be pinpointed to a particular time and place, but it can
be assumed that man began to tell stories when he developed the capacity of speech. This being said,
not all tales were for entertainment purposes, but rather to enlighten, to tell...show more content...
They way stories are told may morph, but never will storytelling cease. From their people skills to
their memories, there is no argument that storytellers possess boundless talent and intelligence. They
were the first educators. And now, storytelling is a large part of everyday life. The news in the
morning, the gossip throughout the day, the casual response to the casual "What's up?" – It's all a
form of storytelling. Our lives are steeped in it. In almost every conversation a story is told. At
every turn a story is born. So we all are storytellers, and the world is our audience, just waiting to
hear the gospel leave our

The Beauty of the black Widow
Gordon Grice is fascinated, maybe obsessed with the black widow. He begins provocatively " I
hunt black widows. I capture it. I have found them in discarded wheels and tires and under railroads
tires. I have found them in house foundations and cellars...I have found them I hospitals and in the
den of the rattlesnake.... (176) In this quote Grice start with first person in place and with the
repetition of "I" so that the reader can get the attention into it. Grice's purpose in the " Black widow"
essay is to inform the audience about the widow's life style. He shows inspiration, fascination,
respect and love for widows. He furthers his purpose by using rhetorical strategies throughout his
text....show more content...
Here in this quote he is informing the audience that widows are black pearls for him. He feels
inspiration, fascination, respect and love for widows that he compares them to such expensive
precious and exquisite jewels. He also shows the audience that we should feel the same for widows
that instead of been afraid ad kill widows, we should take care of them, gave them love as if they
were humans. In this

Essay on Lifelong Learning
Lifelong learning
Lifelong learning is the continuous building of skills and knowledge throughout the life of an
individual. The first characteristic of lifelong learning is that it encompasses both formal and
non–formal/informal types of education and training. Formal learning includes the hierarchically
structured school system that runs from primary school through the university and organized
school–like programs created in business for technical and professional training. Whereas informal
learning describes a lifelong process whereby individuals acquire attitudes, values, skills and
knowledge from daily experience and the educational influences and resources in his or her
environment, from family and neighbors, from work and play,...show more content...
The computer industry is a growing field that will never stay the same as it was when it started.
We will always need additional learning to be able to keep our jobs or move up on the corporate
ladder. We can learn about these changes by going back to school, going to workshops, or on the
job training if it is available. These opportunities are tools that will help you learn more about your
job. The skills that you learn at one job will help you advance in that position or get you another
position with that company or another company. For example,
If you we are tired of being at that same died end job make that change and go back to school to get
that additional education to pursue your dream that you have. Working a job and having a career
are two different things. After spend some years in the work force I decided to further my
education. I wanted a career that I can advance in and learn more.
The process of designing a lifelong learning plan begins with putting it in writing. This plan,
sometimes called a learning contract, must be a dynamic process intended to provide structure in an
unstructured environment – known as everyday life.
Lifelong learning exists within this world, allowing learners the freedom to enroll in formal
continuing education programs or self–directed learning such as learning how to garden or play an
instrument, as examples. A personal learning plan or learning contract should focus on the following

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden
to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class
activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There
are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these
assignments is writing definitions down for new words...show more content...
Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just
a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students
are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework
compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers
don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more
than an hour of

  • 2. Essay on Effective Communication Skills Introduction An important step to becoming an effective leader is to develop effective communication skills. Communication is the transmission of meaning from one person to another or to many people, whether verbally or non–verbally (Barrett, 2006). Effective communication enables leaders to lead. Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea that the sender intended to covey. As a leader, studying the communication process is important. Communication skills, including the ability to problem solve, work in teams, and adapt to various audiences, are critical in today's workplace (Levy& Murname, 2004). Using a 5–point scale with 1 being strongly agree and 5 being strongly disagree, I rated each of the 27 statements. A score between 109 and 135 indicates an excellent understanding of the communication process. A score between 82 and 108 means there are a few areas that need some work while a score between 54 and 81 suggests there are several areas that need attention. A score between 27and 53 implies across the board improvement is needed. This instrument heightened my understanding of my role as a sender and a receiver. It highlighted the importance of asking questions and providing feedback in order to promote clarity. It stressed the significance of non–verbal communication so that I not only hear, but also see what is being communicated to me. Finally, I learned the impact of using the appropriate communication channels for maximum effectiveness. Next, I used an updated version of Mok's (1975) Communication Style, to determine my communication style (see Appendix B). The Mok survey was modified by Hartman and McCambridge (2010) using insights from Alessandra and Hunsaker (1993) and Merrill and Reid (1999). I chose this survey instrument because it has been used in both academia and executive development programs over the last several years. The reason this particular tool is popular in both academia and business is because it highlights the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Servant Leadership Essay Servant Leadership What is it? The phrase "Servant Leadership" was coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in The Servant as a Leader, an essay he first published in 1970 ("What is servant," ). The servant leader serves first, while aspiring to lead second. The servant leader serves the people that he or she leads, implying employees are an end in themselves rather than a means to organizational purpose or bottom–line. Servant leadership is meant to replace a command and control, top–down, model of management. Servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power and empowerment. A few famous examples of servant leaders are George Washington, Gandi and Caesar Chavez. Differences from Other Styles In the approach on general leadership characteristics, the fundamental difference is authentic leaderships strive to be "real", whereas servant leaders strive to be "right." Servant leadership is a style that lays down a set of characteristics that all leaders are supposed to emulate to attain success, and tries to shape the character and personality of the leader. On the other hand, authentic leaders tend to rely on their own unique set of experiences and style that has been learned and developed throughout their career. The main difference between servant and authentic styles, when applying into practice, is the serving of others. One of the primary applications is to give priority to the interest of others. Creative writing tells about feelings, opinions, points of view, things that originate inside the writer. Expository essays tell about facts, things outside of the writer. Essays on literature examine a literary text, a thing outside the writer. Lab reports describe experiments with chemicals and other stuff that really exists and can be measured. It is an ancient art form and is a dear form of human expression (What is). Most historians and psychologists alike agree that storytelling is one of the many things binding and defining humanity as we know it because everything revolves around storytelling in one form or another. Though studies examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC). Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource). Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance. Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20 minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource).
