Informative Movies Essay
As a digital Cinema student, I have learned a lot about the different types of movies that are
created every year and what makes them successful, and unsuccessful. With this bit of insight, I
have discovered that I take a strong interest and drive for documentary films. I find them to be
meaningful, and more productive than other types of movies. Some documentaries are created to
expose the reality of the world for what it is, and I think that with everything going on in this world,
that is effective and necessary. It was not until this year that I was able to actually compose some
short documentary films myself, and I found that I really enjoy it.
I watched the movie Food Inc, a film devoted to exposing the reality of the agriculture...show more

I think it is important that people are informed about the bad results of supporting this brand, so I
created a video expressing the truth behind this "great" brand. Most of my shots are zooming in
and out of the shelves within the store, with a few that have a person interacting with the
products, or just every day I thought this variety would help show the viewer the differences in
the choices they can make. With all the shots, I incorporated a voice over discussing the issue at
hand. This was the most important aspect of my video, because it helped the viewer learn about
what the problem is with "great value" products, and how it is affecting the world. I enjoy realistic
artwork, so I thought I would try documentary films and see what I could do with it. I also want to
try and influence people to second guess supporting this brand
The struggle with documentary films is getting the access that you need, and being able to document
the real sources behind what the topic. I know when I was shooting, I did not want to get caught,
because I knew Wal–Mart probably would not want me videoing their products, so I was extremely
careful when I was shooting my footage. Kenner and his producer had a similar problem. When
they were shooting they stated that they were unable to get access to a lot of the places they wanted
to shoot, as well as

Film and Video Production:
Becoming the Future of the Silver Screen
Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the
public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you
are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different
way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. Thehard work and
artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the
thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film
art. Most of the great movies are either produced by a multi million dollar...show more content...
Even if one plans on becoming a director and not a screenwriter one needs to know what kind of
scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will
most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that
outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story, according to
the dictionary definition at www.Wikidpedia.org. It is crucial to remember that film is a visual
medium. One doesn't tell the audience the story, one shows them. So what one will be writing is
not a novel but more like explaining a dream on paper. One must learn to write a screenplay
visually. As famed director Darren Aronofsky said in an interview with a struggling screenwriter
trying to get published,
"Most of what one writes that doesn't work on screen will just be improvised on the movie set".
There are many important requirements for screenplays that may seem like minutia at first glance
but the format of ones script is extremely important
since it will be submitted along with hundreds of others to one producer. For example, the main font
in use in the U.S. by both publishers and the Hollywood film industry is Courier 12 pitch According
to AFI (American Film Industry) the basics of screenwriting. Though this seems unimportant, when
a publisher is looking at a manuscript he is going to look for things

Sociology of Deviance and Crime: Essay Question: Write a social sciences essay based on a
documentary or film. Explore how deviance and/or crime are presented in this text and relate your
findings to the various sociological perspectives and theories studied in class. Choice of text: Easy
A (2010 movie) Deviance is an unavoidable part of human nature, and as such, is a fascinating and
essential social phenomenon to study. The film Easy A explores how a high school student turns to
deviance in order to benefit in popularity and financially. A number of sociological theories are
recognisable in this film. It demonstrates clearly the motivations behind how primary deviance leads
to secondary deviance. The text raises the theories of...show more content...
Although this isn 't her true personality, Olive feels validated – she has an identity. Therefore, social
exclusion is a motivating factor for Olive to turn to deviance. However, she isn 't the only
character to do so. Olive first lies about losing her virginity to her best friend, but the first real
deviant act comes when she and her gay friend Brandon deceive the whole school. Olive quickly
gains popularity when most of the student body witnesses, from the other side of the door, her
having sex at a party with a boy from school. Little does everyone know that it is all a ruse to get
them to think that Brandon, her fake sex partner, is not gay in hopes that this very public display
of sexual activity will prevent daily beatings at school and it works! (Perry et al., 2011) Being an
openly gay student in high school, Brandon is subjected to torment, discrimination and
marginalisation. Consistent deviance often leads to marginalisation, and gender deviance is a
prime example. Brandon was beat up at school and rejected by friends. Gay individuals have long
been marginalised by not receiving equal rights by law, and are habitually marginalised by the
general public due to homosexuality being considered gender deviance. Taywaditep 's (2001) study
suggested that due to the marginalisation gay boys received throughout their childhood and
adolescence, many began to appear more gender–conforming towards adulthood to avoid
marginalisation. Gender conformity is

My Favorite Movie Essay
Every person can relate to being asked the question: "What's your favorite movie?". Most of the
time this is a very tricky question for people to answer, simply because there are so many viable
options to chose from. Strangely enough, if you were to ask a movie director or producer what
their favorite films are, they'd give you a straightforward and honest answer consisting of only one
or a few different titles that come to mind. As strange as it sounds, directors who have grown up or
become accustomed to the Film Industry usually have strong set opinions and perspectives that tend
to reflect in their own projects and exploits, even though they are continually surrounded by all sorts
of inspirations and potential influencers. Contrary to what you might expect, these directors, editors,
producers, and creators tend to remain very set in their ways and adapt their works into forms of
reflectives stemming from their everyday perspective. My own aunt, Devin Adair, has worked in the
film industry for nearly two decades, during which she has spent time in commercial, television,
independent and studio film markets, finally chasing her own dream of creating her own
masterpiece of film. Her, like many before, came into the industry bright–eyed and hopeful, awaiting
the great and many potential opportunities. But she came to realize that the road leading there would
have many twists and turns, each producing more and more speed bumps along the way. Her story

Essay on Film Making
Film Making
Film production phases
Film production is the process of making a film starting from the story or idea through scriptwriting,
shooting to the distribution of the movie to the audience. There are four main phases involved in
film making.
Development phase
In the development phase, the film is written from the story (Cones, p. 195). The story may come
from a book, a play, another film or an original idea developed by the film producer. During the
development of the film, the film producer works in corroboration with the film writers to develop
the film message and a theme of the message. They then prepare a synopsis of the film. The film
producer and the writers then prepare a step outline of the film that break the whole...show more

It is aimed at making the film ready to be distributed to the viewers (Barbara and Sphor, p. 1–3). In
this phase, the production scripts and items are assembled to make a complete movie. According to
Barbara and Sphor (2002), activities involved in the post–production phase include film processing
and printing. Moreover, the pictures and the sound are synchronized in the post–production phase,
and an assemblage created. After the movie has been completed, it is then ready to be distributed to
the viewers.
Narrative films
According to Pramaggiore and Wallis (p. 8), narrative films produce comedy or tragedy. Therefore,
in narrative films, viewers expect the stories of human actors that produce comedy or tragedy due
to circumstances. According to Pramaggiore and Wallis (p. 8), viewers of narrative films would
expect to see stories about people who in the attempt to achieve certain objectives or goals undergo
through various obstacles on their way.
Mise–en–scene
This is a term used in film production and that is concerned with the way the story is told in a film
(Gibbs, p. 5–10). As such it refers to all the elements of visual styles used in the film.
Mise–en–scene refers to all components of the film composition including the film composition, film
framing, camera and character movement, film lighting as well as the sound used in the film
composition.

The Notebook Essay example
The Notebook is a phenomenal film with incredible performances and many heartfelt moments
from beginning to end. It is a love story that many of us fantasize of living someday. The story
unfolds in recent times at a Nursing home with the introduction of an elderly lady (Gena
Rowlands) who is being visited by an old man, known as Duke (James Garner), who also resides
in the nursing home, and he's there to read her a story. He begins to read about a young girl named
Allie (Rachel McAdams) who was visiting a cousin one summer in the late 1940s. Allie was a
beautiful teenage girl who eventually caught the eye of Noah (Ryan Gosling), her cousin's
boyfriend's best friend. Initially, she showed no interest in Noah, considering the fact...show more

The film?s setting was in present and past scenarios, which made it very interesting. As the old
man Duke read the story, in a past plot, and the story began to climax, he would be interrupted by
someone in the nursing staff, bringing them back to the present. This lineup of events leads to a
sense of curiosity as I began to wonder what these two plots have in relation. This curiosity will
soon be fulfilled as the story develops, and the two plots start to intertwine. The director of this
film did a fantastic job in combining these two plots, and giving the audience just enough time to
figure out their relation. He didn?t give it away too soon, or so late that the story got boring or
confusing. He also made very good use of underscoring (background music with no apparent
source) in a previous scene where Allie and Noah where dancing alone in the middle on nowhere,
to the sounds of Billie Holiday. This particular shot was a three minute continuous shot taken with
a camera on a 300ft dolly track. The actors and actresses in this film did a remarkable job in
playing their roles. The language and wardrobe fit the perfect description of a 40?s teenager.
Now, this is what I call a love story. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is most
definitely the way a love story should be. This story doesn?t just say happily ever after at the end, it
actually takes you there. Works Cited The Notebook. Directed by Nick Cassavetes.

My Favorite Movie Essay
As 2016 draws to its inevitable close, it's time for me to look back on the (literally) hundreds of
movies I've seen this year and decide which ten were my absolute favorites. A heady task, I know–
but someone who calls himself "The Black Saint" has gotta do it. And since I'm the only person
around here in the depths of Gruesome Manor that answers to that name, I guess that task falls to me.
But before I get to the final ten, I'd like to give shout outs to some films that I enjoyed out of the
horror genre. Films like Deadpool, which took the whole superhero genre and freshened it in a most
ribald, hilarious and unexpected way. Captain America: Civil War is pretty much my favorite
superhero movie so far, I loved its intrigue, action, and flat out incredible battle scenes. Having the
Black Panther and Spider–Man in the mix didn't hurt any either. Marvel films went 3 for 3 this year
with the release of Doctor Strange, which (in IMAX 3D) was the first superhero film to actually
make me feel like I was in another dimension. A real experience to witness in the IMAX format.
Getting back to the horror genre, Green Room was one of the most harrowing films of the year for
sure, with scenes of violence that still make me wince when I think of them. Larry Kent's She Who
Must Burn is more morality tale than horror film, but it's scenes of horror are about as potent as any
I've witnessed this year, it features villains that I truly despised, and an ending that stayed with me for

Today, the movie industry has become a huge moneymaker in the entertainment business. You
cannot turn on the television without seeing advertisements for the next big blockbuster film.
While most of the films these days entertain with amazing special effects or raunchy comedy,
there are still films that thrive because of great acting, directing, and editing. Three films that I
believe would be great examples of the way these aspects can cause a film to excel are ?Any
Given Sunday?, ?The Cell?, and ?Almost Famous?. ?Any Given Sunday? shows how, by using
editing, a movie can portray an intense situation realistically. In ?The Cell?, color is used to
differentiate between how we see things in reality and how...show more content...
Panning shots of cheering fans and screaming coaches along with occasional shots of the game being
broadcast on a television with commentators giving their take on the action send the viewer back to
the reality that they are only watching the action and not participating in it. While watching this
movie you truly feel like you are in the game.
?The Cell?, instead of focusing on accurately portraying reality, takes you to the dream world.
Catherine Deane, played by Jennifer Lopez, is a child psychologist involved in an experimental
project that allows her to travel inside the mind of coma victims to try to draw them away from
their fears and thus out of their coma. This movie portrays the journey inside the mind much like
you would depict a dream. When Deane is inside a young child, whose main concern seems to be
a fear of the ?boogie man?, the world she enters is a beautiful desert scene where the sky is bright
blue with puffy white clouds. She is always dressed in bright white dresses and seems to glow.
This depicts that she has earned the child?s trust. All color is brighter in this dreamlike world.
Even though these experiments had not been successful bringing the child out of the coma, Dean
was able to learn a lot about the child. This caused a couple of detectives to approach her about
entering the mind of a serial killer who had slipped into a coma with the goal of discovering the
location of his most recent captive.

Essay On Shrek
Selecting a great comedy movie can be quite difficult since there are various types of movies out in
the market these days. However, the best kind of movies to watch are comedy films since they
allow many people to leave the Cinema feeling happy inside. Nonetheless, searching for a particular
comedy movie like Shrek would be the best option to choose since they have a total of four movies
previously released along with a new movie coming out in 2019. Yet the storyline of Shrek always
keeps everyone entertained with the hilarious embarrassing moments as well as the nice songs, and
happily ever after endings.
Trailers seen on YouTube shows exactly how funny the movie Shrek actually is, however the
easiest movie to remembered out of the rest would probably be Shrek from 2001. This movie was
not only the first movie released but was favored by many because Shrek rescues Fiona in the
Huge tower away from A scary fire breathing Dragon. This was mostly the overall theme, however
there is so much more in the movie than that as well as the ending changed dramatically...show more

Usually in Disney movies the princess would marry her prince and she would live the fairytale in
that movie, however Shrek has an unusual happy ever after. Instead of Fiona getting her true
loves kiss from Prince For Quad, she ends up kissing Shrek instead and turns into a beast forever
like Shrek. Then lastly when she transforms into an Ogre, then For Quad gets angry and views her
as a hidiest beast then later tries to ceas her and Shrek, but with the help of the Dragon, Fiona and
Shrek sets free from the guards, then For Quad placed his poison crown on his head and dieds.
Finally, Shrek the movie is very different from other comedy and Disney movies in many ways,
based on the halerious scenes, influencial songs, and unusual happy endings, this makes up this
movie to be an American

Essay on Film Realism
Response Paper: The Complete Film
The introduction of sound films in the late 1920's was a divisive issue among those involved and
interested in the emerging motion picture industry. Even though it wasn't the sudden breakthrough it
is often perceived to be, the addition of sound and voice to mainstream cinema revolutionized movie
making and led to conflicting viewpoints as to whether or not this innovation was a positive
progression for film as an art and as an industry.
While the addition of sound to films was generally perceived as an advancement, some critics and
filmmakers believed that it takes away from the artistic essence of the medium. Among these
traditionalists was Rudolph Arnheim, an art critic who thought the technological...show more

While Arnheim's views on the future of film and the idea of a complete film can be somewhat
insightful, I disagree with his conclusion that the introduction of sound and color diminishes the
creative quality and originality of movies. He states his belief that eventually film will develop to
the point where we "we have nothing to look forward to" (Arnheim , 184).
In all forms of art there is a natural inclination to explore and experiment within the medium. The
resulting methods and formats can be seen as alternatives and additions to existing ones. I do not
believe that, in terms of technical decisions, there is a superior style of film making that the
industry progresses to on a set path. I agree with Arnheim's statement that "there is no objection to
the complete film as an alternative to the stage" if it exists with the other types of films (Arhheim,
186). In some cases advances in method and technique are used to fix the problems of technological
limitations. In other cases these advances provide alternatives. The introduction of color is
described by the latter. Color was introduced as an alternative to black and white movies but never
completely replaced them and didn't stop the use of black and white as an effective technique in
modern cinema.
The use of sound, on the other hand, was a solution rather than an alternative. Since the early

Even if one plans on becoming a director and not a screenwriter one needs to know what kind of scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story, according to the dictionary definition at www.Wikidpedia.org. It is crucial to remember that film is a visual medium. One doesn't tell the audience the story, one shows them. So what one will be writing is not a novel but more like explaining a dream on paper. One must learn to write a screenplay visually. As famed director Darren Aronofsky said in an interview with a struggling screenwriter trying to get published, "Most of what one writes that doesn't work on screen will just be improvised on the movie set". There are many important requirements for screenplays that may seem like minutia at first glance but the format of ones script is extremely important since it will be submitted along with hundreds of others to one producer. Explore how deviance and/or crime are presented in this text and relate your findings to the various sociological perspectives and theories studied in class. Choice of text: Easy A (2010 movie) Deviance is an unavoidable part of human nature, and as such, is a fascinating and essential social phenomenon to study. The film Easy A explores how a high school student turns to deviance in order to benefit in popularity and financially. A number of sociological theories are recognisable in this film. It demonstrates clearly the motivations behind how primary deviance leads to secondary deviance. The text raises the theories of...show more content... Although this isn 't her true personality, Olive feels validated – she has an identity. Therefore, social exclusion is a motivating factor for Olive to turn to deviance. However, she isn 't the only character to do so. Olive first lies about losing her virginity to her best friend, but the first real deviant act comes when she and her gay friend Brandon deceive the whole school. Olive quickly gains popularity when most of the student body witnesses, from the other side of the door, her having sex at a party with a boy from school. Little does everyone know that it is all a ruse to get them to think that Brandon, her fake sex partner, is not gay in hopes that this very public display of sexual activity will prevent daily beatings at school and it works! (Perry et al., 2011) Being an openly gay student in high school, Brandon is subjected to torment, discrimination and marginalisation. Consistent deviance often leads to marginalisation, and gender deviance is a prime example. Brandon was beat up at school and rejected by friends. Gay individuals have long been marginalised by not receiving equal rights by law, and are habitually marginalised by the general public due to homosexuality being considered gender deviance. Taywaditep 's (2001) study suggested that due to the marginalisation gay boys received throughout their childhood and adolescence, many began to appear more gender–conforming towards adulthood to avoid marginalisation. • 4. My Favorite Movie Essay Every person can relate to being asked the question: "What's your favorite movie?". Most of the time this is a very tricky question for people to answer, simply because there are so many viable options to chose from. Strangely enough, if you were to ask a movie director or producer what their favorite films are, they'd give you a straightforward and honest answer consisting of only one or a few different titles that come to mind. As strange as it sounds, directors who have grown up or become accustomed to the Film Industry usually have strong set opinions and perspectives that tend to reflect in their own projects and exploits, even though they are continually surrounded by all sorts of inspirations and potential influencers. Contrary to what you might expect, these directors, editors, producers, and creators tend to remain very set in their ways and adapt their works into forms of reflectives stemming from their everyday perspective. My own aunt, Devin Adair, has worked in the film industry for nearly two decades, during which she has spent time in commercial, television, independent and studio film markets, finally chasing her own dream of creating her own masterpiece of film. Her, like many before, came into the industry bright–eyed and hopeful, awaiting the great and many potential opportunities. But she came to realize that the road leading there would have many twists and turns, each producing more and more speed bumps along the way. Her story is one of battling Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Film Making Film Making Film production phases Film production is the process of making a film starting from the story or idea through scriptwriting, shooting to the distribution of the movie to the audience. There are four main phases involved in film making. Development phase In the development phase, the film is written from the story (Cones, p. 195). The story may come from a book, a play, another film or an original idea developed by the film producer. During the development of the film, the film producer works in corroboration with the film writers to develop the film message and a theme of the message. They then prepare a synopsis of the film. Moreover, the pictures and the sound are synchronized in the post–production phase, and an assemblage created. After the movie has been completed, it is then ready to be distributed to the viewers. Narrative films According to Pramaggiore and Wallis (p. 8), narrative films produce comedy or tragedy. Therefore, in narrative films, viewers expect the stories of human actors that produce comedy or tragedy due to circumstances. According to Pramaggiore and Wallis (p. 8), viewers of narrative films would expect to see stories about people who in the attempt to achieve certain objectives or goals undergo through various obstacles on their way. Mise–en–scene This is a term used in film production and that is concerned with the way the story is told in a film (Gibbs, p. 5–10). • 6. The Notebook Essay example The Notebook is a phenomenal film with incredible performances and many heartfelt moments from beginning to end. It is a love story that many of us fantasize of living someday. The story unfolds in recent times at a Nursing home with the introduction of an elderly lady (Gena Rowlands) who is being visited by an old man, known as Duke (James Garner), who also resides in the nursing home, and he's there to read her a story. He begins to read about a young girl named Allie (Rachel McAdams) who was visiting a cousin one summer in the late 1940s. Allie was a beautiful teenage girl who eventually caught the eye of Noah (Ryan Gosling), her cousin's boyfriend's best friend. Initially, she showed no interest in Noah, considering the fact...show more content... The film?s setting was in present and past scenarios, which made it very interesting. As the old man Duke read the story, in a past plot, and the story began to climax, he would be interrupted by someone in the nursing staff, bringing them back to the present. This lineup of events leads to a sense of curiosity as I began to wonder what these two plots have in relation. This curiosity will soon be fulfilled as the story develops, and the two plots start to intertwine. The director of this film did a fantastic job in combining these two plots, and giving the audience just enough time to figure out their relation. He didn?t give it away too soon, or so late that the story got boring or confusing. He also made very good use of underscoring (background music with no apparent source) in a previous scene where Allie and Noah where dancing alone in the middle on nowhere, to the sounds of Billie Holiday. This particular shot was a three minute continuous shot taken with a camera on a 300ft dolly track. The actors and actresses in this film did a remarkable job in playing their roles. The language and wardrobe fit the perfect description of a 40?s teenager. Now, this is what I call a love story. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is most definitely the way a love story should be. This story doesn?t just say happily ever after at the end, it actually takes you there. • 7. My Favorite Movie Essay As 2016 draws to its inevitable close, it's time for me to look back on the (literally) hundreds of movies I've seen this year and decide which ten were my absolute favorites. A heady task, I know– but someone who calls himself "The Black Saint" has gotta do it. And since I'm the only person around here in the depths of Gruesome Manor that answers to that name, I guess that task falls to me. But before I get to the final ten, I'd like to give shout outs to some films that I enjoyed out of the horror genre. Films like Deadpool, which took the whole superhero genre and freshened it in a most ribald, hilarious and unexpected way. Captain America: Civil War is pretty much my favorite superhero movie so far, I loved its intrigue, action, and flat out incredible battle scenes. Having the Black Panther and Spider–Man in the mix didn't hurt any either. Marvel films went 3 for 3 this year with the release of Doctor Strange, which (in IMAX 3D) was the first superhero film to actually make me feel like I was in another dimension. A real experience to witness in the IMAX format. Getting back to the horror genre, Green Room was one of the most harrowing films of the year for sure, with scenes of violence that still make me wince when I think of them. Larry Kent's She Who Must Burn is more morality tale than horror film, but it's scenes of horror are about as potent as any I've witnessed this year, it features villains that I truly despised, and an ending that stayed with me for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Cinematography Essay examples Today, the movie industry has become a huge moneymaker in the entertainment business. You cannot turn on the television without seeing advertisements for the next big blockbuster film. While most of the films these days entertain with amazing special effects or raunchy comedy, there are still films that thrive because of great acting, directing, and editing. Three films that I believe would be great examples of the way these aspects can cause a film to excel are ?Any Given Sunday?, ?The Cell?, and ?Almost Famous?. ?Any Given Sunday? shows how, by using editing, a movie can portray an intense situation realistically. In ?The Cell?, color is used to differentiate between how we see things in reality and how...show more content... While watching this movie you truly feel like you are in the game. ?The Cell?, instead of focusing on accurately portraying reality, takes you to the dream world. Catherine Deane, played by Jennifer Lopez, is a child psychologist involved in an experimental project that allows her to travel inside the mind of coma victims to try to draw them away from their fears and thus out of their coma. This movie portrays the journey inside the mind much like you would depict a dream. When Deane is inside a young child, whose main concern seems to be a fear of the ?boogie man?, the world she enters is a beautiful desert scene where the sky is bright blue with puffy white clouds. She is always dressed in bright white dresses and seems to glow. This depicts that she has earned the child?s trust. All color is brighter in this dreamlike world. Even though these experiments had not been successful bringing the child out of the coma, Dean was able to learn a lot about the child. This caused a couple of detectives to approach her about entering the mind of a serial killer who had slipped into a coma with the goal of discovering the location of his most recent captive. However, the best kind of movies to watch are comedy films since they allow many people to leave the Cinema feeling happy inside. Nonetheless, searching for a particular comedy movie like Shrek would be the best option to choose since they have a total of four movies previously released along with a new movie coming out in 2019. Yet the storyline of Shrek always keeps everyone entertained with the hilarious embarrassing moments as well as the nice songs, and happily ever after endings. Trailers seen on YouTube shows exactly how funny the movie Shrek actually is, however the easiest movie to remembered out of the rest would probably be Shrek from 2001. • 10. Essay on Film Realism Response Paper: The Complete Film The introduction of sound films in the late 1920's was a divisive issue among those involved and interested in the emerging motion picture industry. Even though it wasn't the sudden breakthrough it is often perceived to be, the addition of sound and voice to mainstream cinema revolutionized movie making and led to conflicting viewpoints as to whether or not this innovation was a positive progression for film as an art and as an industry. While the addition of sound to films was generally perceived as an advancement, some critics and filmmakers believed that it takes away from the artistic essence of the medium. Among these traditionalists was Rudolph Arnheim, an art critic who thought the technological...show more content... While Arnheim's views on the future of film and the idea of a complete film can be somewhat insightful, I disagree with his conclusion that the introduction of sound and color diminishes the creative quality and originality of movies. He states his belief that eventually film will develop to the point where we "we have nothing to look forward to" (Arnheim , 184). In all forms of art there is a natural inclination to explore and experiment within the medium. The resulting methods and formats can be seen as alternatives and additions to existing ones. I do not believe that, in terms of technical decisions, there is a superior style of film making that the industry progresses to on a set path. I agree with Arnheim's statement that "there is no objection to the complete film as an alternative to the stage" if it exists with the other types of films (Arhheim, 186). In some cases advances in method and technique are used to fix the problems of technological limitations. In other cases these advances provide alternatives. The introduction of color is described by the latter. Color was introduced as an alternative to black and white movies but never completely replaced them and didn't stop the use of black and white as an effective technique in modern cinema. The use of sound, on the other hand, was a solution rather than an alternative. Since the early Get more content on HelpWriting.net
