The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story
A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and
emotions don't come easily for me, but add this gloomy weather to the after–holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the perfect song on the
radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is
the ghosts were real. They were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are always there.
Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the
memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to another
level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be
forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know what I said. I
know what I did. I know where I 've been. I know the power I have over others, and I know I haven't always wielded it responsibly. I know how to
inflict pain. When something hurts me, I know how to hurt it 10–fold in return via my words, action, or violence, but the words are what haunt me the
most. The

ВЁ What terrified me will terrify others, and I need only describe the specter which had haunted my midnight pillowВЁ She was just a teenager when
she created the novel, Frankenstein. It all happened on a gloomy rainy day When a bunch of Romance writers was stuck in a room. When a man who
went by the name Lord Byron, had suggested that the writers write a ghost story. That is when the teenage girl, Mary Shelley wrote the novel,
Frankenstein. Which was Published on January 1, 1818.
Throughout the novel, Victor is having to endure so much pain in his life. Which all could have been mostly avoided in the first place if after he
was done creating him; helped the monster awaken in the new world by his side to teach him the ways of the world. "I took refuge in the courtyard
belonging to the house I inhabited where I remained during the rest of the night, walking up and down in the greatest agitation" the monster was
created as victor left him to fend for himself, practically was left to die.
In another instance, a second time that he could have resolved the issue which death would strike was when the monster had asked for a companion.
The monster had made a promise he would move far away with his wife and they would never come to face man again. Victor had said he would. But
as he denied his request the monster warned him. " I will be there on your wedding night" Which

Essay On The Story Of The Ghost
"Pip, wait!" Simon yelled at a high pitched voice. The dog franticly running at
the woody overlook of the pond. "Pip, where are you boy?". Simon heard a rustle in the
bushes next to him, it was like a bee whispering in a low voice. He turned on his
flashlight and began to wonder into the mossy, and overgrown, dew riddled forrest. He
began to hear sounds all around him as he got further into the mystical looking forrest.
He tripped over a log and he gasped with fear and began to pant like a dog. His
flashlight started flickering, and suddenly went out with a quiet "zzzttt". He could not see

A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town's Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from
that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy: dark and well–lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable,
snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.
The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during this time. My parents' home belonged to one
realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways– strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and
purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and
paths led into the future: there was duty, love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life, one
made sure one was in league with this world.
The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language, promised and demanded different things. This world
contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious
things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows, horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies,
murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel,

M. R. James's Lost Hearts: A Classic Ghost Story
Lost Hearts a classic ghost tale was written by M.R. James that tells a story about an orphan boy named Stephen who moves in with his mysterious
cousin Mr. Abney. Many people enjoyed the chilling tale that it inspired some people to create films about the story. Two separate versions shared
some similarities and differences with the tale. They both attempt to recreate the original story, but the second film portrays the setting, characters, and
plot better than the first version. The setting of M.R James original story is best represented in the second version. In the original story, the house is
described as a Large Estate that was isolated from everything. The house had an uneasy feeling to it through the way it was furnished,

A Short Story : The Story Of A Ghost Story
There was a terrible thunderstorm, thunder roared, lightning crackled, and rain poured, but then, everything stopped. 12 year old Grant Purl felt an
eerie feeling, a feeling almost as if...
"Boo!"
"Augggg," Grant screamed. When Grant turned around, he was half expecting to see a ghost, but is just his little brother, Jake. 8 year old Jake was
rolling on the floor with laughter.
"Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! Oh man you should have seen the look on your face! I mean–," But then Jake stopped when he saw the look on his brother's face.
He started to regret what he did, but before he could apologize, Grant yelled,
"You little fuzzbrain! Stay outta my room!"
"Peace out," said Jake, and he ran out of Grant's room.
"Geez, nobody gets any privacy around here huh?" said Grant. He pulled back the curtains to check out the storm damage. "Whoa! Look at that house!
Yikes! The road is torn up! Look at all this–," But then Grant stopped,"Huh? What's THAT!?" Grant was looking at a shiny piece of metal. "Maybe I
should go check it out!" Soon, he was outside, But the closer he got to the piece of metal, the more he realized it wasn't just a piece of metal, it was a
golden key! Grant wanted the key badly so he took it. Once he got inside of his house he put it under his pillow. Soon, he had to sleep. That night he
had a dream, There was a psycho chasing him through the woods screaming,
"I'll get you! I'll get you!" Then Grant woke up. He was paralyzed with fear, the dream was so vivid! So real! It was still dark outside, but Grant was
wide awake.
"The only thing," he said to himself,"that could calm me down right now is the key!" So he reached under his pillow, but he couldn't feel the key!
Grant panicked. He turned around trying to remember where he might have put the key– but then he froze. Right in front of him, floating in the air,
was the key! Grant was flabbergasted,"Wha? How?!" he sputtered. But before Grant could recover, the key was saying some type of poem,
"This key possess dark energy, turnaround, you must flee." The poem echoed through Grants head.
"WHAAAAAAAT!?!?!?!? But HOW?" Grant screamed. Naturally Grant enjoyed poetry. But this rhyme sent shivers down his spine. I mean how
would you feel? It's not every day a cursed

Representation of the Feminine in Select Ghost Stories of Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond is one of those rare authors whose writings have been loved and accepted by readers of all ages and groups. His depiction of small
town life in India and of ordinary individuals struggling to make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense of appeal and
beauty. His stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to be associated with most of Bond 's writing. Yet, there are certain
aspects to his writing – as it is true of any other great writer – that deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren 't immediately apparent. In this
paper an attempt has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by Bond in order to assess how the character of the female has been
represented with a special emphasis on examining an element of the sinister which seems to be associated with each of these women. Whether as
ghosts or as real, living individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict harm on other characters which marks them as being decisively
dangerous. What this paper tries to ascertain is whether these female characters can be simply branded as being evil or if there are actual, justifiable
reasons behind their actions which provokes them to act in the ways they do. The study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions and motivations
of these characters who are evidently more complex than they initially appear to be.

What you're about to read is one of the scariest real stories that happened in Laredo, Tx. It was one Saturday night in October when Cesar and
Vanessa were at Diego's house with nothing to do other than just watch the T.v and play board games which they didn't want to do either of them. "
Diego we should go somewhere that haunts since Halloween is right around the corner," said Vanessa. " Let's go to the haunted hospital," said Diego
" Which one," asked Cesar, "I think it's called Mercy Hospital," replied Diego. So they decided to go, but before they went, they gathered stuff that

they stopped and sat in some old scourge dirty chairs that were thrown on the ground so they can calm down from the haunt that was happening, as
they were sitting down they can smell an earthy, metallic smell all over. " Cesar what is that behind you it looks strange," questioned Diego and as
Cesar turned to see what it was, it was a gory cadaver, so they ran out till where they had come in from forgetting about Vanessa and trying to ignore
what they had seen. Cesar and Diego just continued to run for their life until they got to Diego house

Halloween School : A Ghost Story On Halloween
"So kids, every Halloween, it is said that her ghost, roams the empty hallways of this very school, searching for another female student to take her
place." The students were now on the edge of their wooden seats, eyes wide, listening to every word Mr. Morris said. All of a sudden the loud bell
breaks the silence, making each one of them jump. "I guess I will have to tell you all the rest of the story on Monday. Have a good Halloween kids.
Don't forget about the dance tonight." After most of the students left, only two remained They walked up to Mr. Morris's desk, eager to know more
about the ghost story. "Did it really happen?" The girl named Claire asked. "I don't believe it did." The boy named Logan exclaimed, emphasizing
the word "I". "Well kids," Mr. Morris sighed, "I don't want to encourage anything but you may just have to find out." he said with a mysterious look
on his unshaven face. Later that evening Outside the Max Morris gymnasium, the frigid wind blew through the trees making the leaves rustle and
some fall to the ground. The full moon made dancing shadows on the pavement. Logan and Claire made their way through the glass doors and into
the warm gym. Inside, there was a variety of different costumes. Such as mummies, vampires, ghosts, and cats, just to name a few. The floor of the

Hannah Betts Ghost Stories: There Was Something About My...
The article "Ghost Stories: There Was Something About My New House" by Hannah Betts, follows the author's own paranormal encounter in her old
home. Hannah and her family moved into a spacious Victorian manor that was always rumored to be haunted. Being skeptics, the Betts family decided
to move into the house anyway. During their time in the manor, several smaller encounters, such as hearing footsteps and voices; which ultimately led
to a ghost breaking a mirror, etching 666 into the shards of glass, and writing "I'm going to (explicit) kill you all" in blood. In her article, Betts uses
pathos to appeal to the reader's emotions by her use of tone and mood, the parts of speech, and foreshadowing.
The author appeals to the reader's emotions through her use of tone and mood. Although tone and mood seem similar they are actually two different
concepts. Tone is the authors attitude toward their work, while mood is how the audience feels when reading the work. In her article, Betts' attitude is
afraid. This is evident in the first paragraph when she states, "This is a story I have never told in print for fear that I would sound mad." (Betts 1) This ...

The tone of the article tells the reader how scared the author is after her experience in the manor and mood makes the reader feel that terror as well.
Parts of speech make up the story and add to the eerie mood. Finally foreshadowing lets you feel anxiety toward what will happen later in the article
when the ghost in the manor breaks a mirror and writes a chilling message on the wall in blood. While there is controversy in the scientific community
over the validity of ghost stories, we can all agree that "Ghost Stories" by Hannah Betts is terrifying, but this would not be possible without the use of

Ghost Story of Santa Fe Ghost Trail Essay
Santa Fe Ghost Trail
As I sat down with the narrator in his dorm on a Sunday afternoon–not the most appropriate time for ghost stories–he told me this well known ghost
story from New Mexico. The storyteller is an 18–year–old male freshman majoring in international relations who is from Bethesda, Maryland. He is
biracial with an American father and a Taiwanese mother. Born in California and raised in Colorado, the storyteller is a converted Christian. The teller
was in the Boy Scouts, which is where this story comes from:
There's this really small highway town in New Mexico called Cimarron, and it's small now but in the late 19th century it was a bustling crossroads for
all sorts of people – gold speculators, ranchers, oilmen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately I didn't, but this did happen to me: as I was closing my eyes, I started hearing these really weird popping sounds. Like, click–click–click.
Over and over again – and they actually got louder! Okay, there was nothing – nothing – in the room that might have did that. No fan, no heating, no
AC, no television, clock, watch, whatever! It was the most basic hotel room ever. And the clicks sounded as if something was floating above me!
Like circling above me, like a swarm of bees or something. I was scared sh*tless, but I just tried to go to sleep. And never opened my eyes until the
morning, when the bright sun shone in the room. Going to breakfast, I saw the bullet holes left in the ceiling by Billy the Kid and other saloon
fighters, and heard the stories told by the kitchen staff about plates and silverware that would randomly fall to the ground and break, and the flickering
lights, and other freaky things which I forgot.
Even though the storyteller did not personally see the ghost, the story still possess many of elements that are similar to all ghost stories. First, the ghost
story takes place at a place where the ghost frequently visits. Similar to other tales, rather than running around aimlessly, ghosts usually haunt one place.
This "haunting" of one particular location is frequently interpreted as the ghost having unfinished business at the place. In this case, the ghost is
apparently the wife of the hotel's founder, Henri

A Ghost Story : Living With A Ghost
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, it's tough not to get freaked out when you're alone and you hear something bump in the night or even hear a
voice. The story below will freak you out so you may want to read this with a friend.
Once upon a time there was a father and a mother who live with their daughter's and son in a big house on the edge of a forest surrounded by mines.
They lived happily together. The father and son went to work every morning and came home in the afternoon. Themother stayed home and cleaned
while the daughter's went to school. Everything was fine with them and it was a great life.
One day the older daughter did not come home from school, and her brother, sister, mother, and father were worried. They went out to look for her and
found her not far from home. She had been murdered.
Her brother, sister mom and dad were devastated. They grieved for her and buried her in the cemetery. A few days later, something strange happened
the father had to leave to go to another town, so he left his wife daughter, and son at home. Just after midnight they heard a knock on the door.
''Who's there?'' asked the mother
There was no answer .
The mother nervously opened the door and saw someone standing there in the moonlight. It was her daughter.
The girl was covered in blood, her skin was pale and her eyes were just empty sockets.
The mother was so glad to see her that she did not pay attention to any of this. She went to get her younger

Analysis Of Time For Andrew: A Ghost Story
"Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course, they actually become the person they seem." This quote
said by W. Somerset Maugham claims that people are not what they may seem like, but their true characteristic will show eventually, just like in the
book Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story a mystery book by Mary Downing Hahn. In the beginning of the story, Andrew, or Drew as his friends called
him, went to visit his aunt in the forest for the summer. They later found out that the attic was filled with pictures and items from the family that lived
in that house before them. "Holding my breath I untied the knot and tipped the pouch. A stream of marbles poured out, nudging and bumping one

Later in the night, the boy that the bag belonged to, Andrew appeared in Drew's room. He looked pale from diphtheria. " Andrew exclaimed. Have
you no brains? We're alike as two peas in a pod. All we need to do is switch places. I'll get in bed. You go up to the attic and hide"(39). Drew and
Andrew were exactly alike. They were the same age, and they looked the exact same, they only difference is that Andrew was dead. When Andrew
told drew he had diphtheria, they agreed to switch places, so that Andrew can get help from a doctor. When Andrew told Drew to hide in the attic,
Drew realizes that Andrew tricked him. Andrew knew that if they switched places, Drew will live in Andrew's world, and Andrew would live in
Drew's world. This shows that people are not what they might seem like. One can make a connection between this story and the real world because
in this story, the character soon realizes that people are not what they seem like. In the real world, one can learn that people can always trick you into
doing something, just like in the book. From reading this book, the reader can learn that some people will trick you, and some people will not be what

the other hand, I have been bullied on a trip. Being bullied is the hardest thing anyone can go through, but I have been able to move forward, and
overcome the treatment by opening up, as well as not be in silent, and to just be myself. When I was in the 7th grade, I was in a Hispanic dance group

teacher was not around, but it got worse; I was roomed with three girls from the modern dance group. In the hotel, they made me sleep on the
couch even though there were two beds. In addition, when we all went to go eat as a group at the Cheesecake Factory they put salt in my cake
while I stepped out to go to the restroom. Also one of my roommates had commented when we were practicing before the performance in Hawaii
that they wish there was a special ed here to take my spot because they could obviously do better dancing than me, knowing the teacher was there and
heard she did nothing about that comment. I was upset so I told the teacher the things that had to happen she said she would fix it. She did not
because she told me that while everyone is at the pool having fun I am in here crying in the room like a 4–year–old because I cannot get over a joke.

Analysis Of ' King's Ghost A Story Of Greed, Terror, And...
Manipulation seems to be a common characteristic in swaying peoples perception. Journalism has been an instrument used to act on this manipulation
since text has been attainable by the masses. Due to the impressive amount of average folk becoming literate in the early nineteenth century,
international journalism was an integral part of the Age of Imperialism. Around this time, industrialized countries were on a quest to colonize and
influence any state that was seen as worthy. The role of journalism exposed these worthy, unindustrialized countries and manipulated readers into
believing they needed to be altered. This deceptive journalism is evident in Adam Hochschild's King Leopold's Ghost A Story of Greed, Terror, and
Heroism in Colonial Africa, and influenced many nineteenth and twentieth century perceptions pertaining to humanitarianism and imperialism.
Hochschild's uses the story of King Leopold II and his colonization of Africa to depict the notion of imperialists genuine intention's rather than their
publicly perceived one's. Using propaganda, Leopold exploits the many faces of journalism and ultimately perceives his backwards Congo into a
colonial, humane, necessity for the world. Even though international journalism eventually led to the down fall of Leopold's hypocritical jurisdiction,
the principal role of journalists relating to the Congo was to report what was beneficial to the writer. This is evident in Leopold's portrayal of the
Congo to the public, and

Is Henry James' The turn of the Screw a traditional ghost story?
Ghost stories are found way back in history, some dating back to the
Victorian times. The Victorians were known to be greatly interested in ghosts and the supernatural and showed this fascination through tellingghost
stories.
The telling of ghost stories was used as a way of entertainment especially around Christmas time and it was also very common for upper class
Victorians to participate in seances where they would try to make contact with the ghosts/spirits of their dead loved ones. However this was not the
only reason, in the later Victorian age, with many people having a great mixture of beliefs there was a disaffection with organised religion and more ...

She describes the intruder to Mrs Grose, the house keeper, who identifies him as Peter
Quint, former valet to the children's uncle. Quint had been left in charge of the household and, according to the housekeeper, had abused his position.
The previous governess, Miss Jessel, had been forced to leave her employment when her relationship with Quint was discovered by the children's uncle,
and had subsequently died. Quint was then killed in an accident. The horrified governess fears Quint and Miss
Jessel have returned for the children, and resolves to protect them.
The governess also witnessed many other visions of Quint and Miss
Jessel over a period of time, but the reader is left unaware of whether these apparitions are real ghosts or just a figment of the governess' imagination.
The story has both traditional and untraditional elements of a ghost story. The opening of the book consists of a group of friends and aquantences
gathered around a fire on Christmas eve which straight away agrees with the traditional idea of telling ghost stories. James uses the technique of
setting a story within a story (Shakespeare is also known for setting a play within his plays e.g. Mid–summer nights dream and Hamlet). This helps to
build the suspense, the reader has to wait for the delivery of the manuscript from London, creating a sense of tension and anticipation.

"I heard there was a rumor about the haunted house next to mine." Carlos leans over and whispers in my ear. "No way!" I say in disbelief, "I know that
it is just an abandoned house." "No, Hai. I heard it from Jesus and I swore that I had seen it with my own two eyes." "Nah, you are lying," I say
wearily. "NO, seriously. It was real. If you don't believe me, let's go and sleep there overnight," retorts Carlos. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND ?!
MY PARENTS WON'T LET ME STAY IN THAT STUPID HOUSE!" I shout while looking at my friend in shock. "Come on. You are such a wimp,
Hai," chuckles Carlos a little louder, " Are you afraid to see the ghost? You are
––– aren't you?!" Now, I am really tired of his badgering. "Hey, Carlos!
What do we have for homework?" I slyly ask while trying to change the topic. As we walk to school, we still think about that topic in silence. "
DING DONG..." the sound of school bell sounds. I jump scared half to death. "Fast Hai!" yells Carlos as he runs straight through our school gate. "
Ok!" while I am struggling to try to catch up to him. Throughout the day, we keep dwelling on the idea of sleeping over at the haunted house. Our
decision still haunts me. As usual, I soar out of my bed in my apartment and prepare to get ready for school. At 8 o'clock in the morning, I walk to
school with my little sister on the sidewalk. After halfway to school, we see a house overflowing with a lot of police cars, ambulance surrounding it,

The Mystery Of Ghost Stories
Mystery ships are ships where something indescribable or unknown has occurred on that ship. For instance, the whole crew could have died like on
the SS Ourang Medan, or the whole crew could have disappeared like on the Resolven, or even the ship could disappear like on the SS Baychimo.
When these things happen with no evidence to prove what occurred, they become a mystery. These three ships have become some of the most
well–known ghost stories today.
It was the February of 1947 when the SS Ourang Medan was traveling near the Indonesian Coastline and sent out distress calls that were heard by
many different ships and listening posts. From these calls, it was hard to know what was happening on the ship but the listeners knew it was something
awful (Matthews). The first message received by the rescue people was, "All officers including captain are dead, lying in chartroom and bridge.
Possibly whole crew dead," (Matthews). The next messages that were received were a series of indecipherable morse codes that were followed by
the message "I die," (Matthews). It took a few hours before a ship could come to help the Ourang Medan. Finally, the Ourang Medan was found
through triangulation, which uses a series of network triangles to find the position of points in a specific region (Matthews). The rescue ship that
arrived on the scene was the American boat known as the 6507th Silver Star. When the Silver Star arrived, its crew members tried to get a response
from the Ourang Medan,

Ghost Stories: Notatoss
Doctor Rumbolt of Crinkletown was employed by the local NOTATOSS firm which carried out medical work capability assessments on behalf of the
Employment and Pensions Bureaux. NOTATOSS were a rogue firm who classified benefit claimants fit for work even when they were severely
disabled or suffered from life threatening illnesses. Doctors and nurses who had been struck off were often employed by NOTATOSS and they were
not trained in anything disability related. Doctor Rumbolt was no exception. He was rotund and had greying to white hair and was balding and in
his early sixties. He was greedy and selfish and had a penchant for rich foods, fine wines and the best sherry that money could buy. He very rarely
classified claimants unfit for work because for him it was not financially viable. The more people he classified fit for work, the greater his financial
gain. Financial gain and maintaining the lifestyle to which he was most accustomed was top priority. ***

Genius Project: Ghost Story And Urban Legends
I originally chose this project because I have always been very interested in ghost stories and urban legends. I love all things from campfire stories
to conspiracy theories. In the beginning of the year my friends and I were obsessed with conspiracy theories, so when we started talking about the
Genius Project I knew I wanted to do something that incorporated these interests. The best thing about my Genius Project was getting to read the
urban legends. I like hearing about stories about places I knew or had been to. I liked knowing the places because I felt I could better connected with
the legends. The most challenging part of my project was discovering if the legends were true or not. Different sources would say different things or

A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I intend to begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town's Latin school. The sweetness of many memories
from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy: dark and well–lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and
comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.

The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen
Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or
believe that the scripture shows the issues and lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in this
story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what they think is right and what they are bound to do, even as
the smaller character of Regine slightly deals with the same issue.
"Duty" comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound to in their life relays to the role they act in
society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we are told of her husband's horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is
duty–bound to protect her husband 's reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice everything for her son. In return, the son must love
his mother. In a way, we question the duty of the mother and ask whether or not it was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband's actions from her
son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen's opinion of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice, the reader
on their own must make a choice in the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty and protect her son during his young years was a
courageous execution for the paths she found available. As said by George Bernard Shaw in

Which all could have been mostly avoided in the first place if after he

belonging to the house I inhabited where I remained during the rest of the night, walking up and down in the greatest agitation" the monster was
created as victor left him to fend for himself, practically was left to die.
In another instance, a second time that he could have resolved the issue which death would strike was when the monster had asked for a companion.

Nature's Gold and Ghost Stories Essay
Life and death are leaves us with an known and unknown that are unavoidable. In the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost symbolism,
rhyme, and allusion are used to describe not only nature's life cycle but the human life cycle as well. The allegory "Used to Live Here Once" by Jean
Rhys uses symbolism and motif to deliver a story of a woman who has died but is unaware that she has actually passed away. Even though both of
these pieces of literature utilize similar elements that symbolize the human life cycle in their writings they are very different in nature, and the poem
"Nothing Gold Can Stay" leaves you with an actual reality of all beings lifecycles and the allegory leaves you with imagination only. "A symbol is

This first use of symbolism differs from the allegory "Used to Live Here Once." The second sentence is where the narrator starts the use of symbolism
to explain the different steps in life through the explanation of the rocks in a river. "The round unsteady stone, the pointed one, the flat one in the
middle –– the safe stone where you could stand and look around," the unsteady stone represents life as a child, when we are first learning to walk
and talk, the pointed stone is the apex of our journey through life, the flat stone was after our hard days were done, such as when we are older and
more mature, and the safe stone represents when you took a step back and decided not to engage life, but life is for living so you must continue to
move forward and not stand off to the side. Finally the narrator explains one more rock, "The next one wasn't so safe for when the river was full
the water flowed over it and even when it showed dry it was slippery," this sentence explains her current situation. Being that she had died and does
not realize that yet, she is in a situation to where even though everything looks right the next step is a slippery one, soon she will find out that she is
no longer alive. The first use of symbolism in each of these pieces is about life, one tells us that life is a precious thing, where

A Short Story : A Story Of A Ghost Story
One day, there were 3 boys me, Joe, and Jake. It was 2:00 AM, at my house, we were hungry. So, we decided to go to, "The Old store." It didn't really
have a name. It had been there for hundreds of years. Our Mom and Dads had told us to not go to the house even if they had good food.
Joe said, "i don't think we should go. Our parents told us not to go at night."
I said, "don't be a wimp Joe."
Joe said, "ok then don't blame it on me."
We did not take the warning and went to the store for cake and coke. The boys were walking when they heard a noise in the bushes"I screamed." It
was just a snake. It was a cold foggy night. We couldn't see more than 30 feet in front of us. Then Joe's mom called him.
He answered, "hello."
His mom said, "honey there was a ghost sighting please come home" in a very creepy voice.
Joe said, "that is not my mom's voice."He stuttered.
We had a horrible feeling something very bad was going to happen. We felt bad that they disobeyed their parents. We boys saved the creepy call on
voice mail. We went to the nearest place which was a Walmart. We went into the Walmart, stepping very slowly we found a cashier.
We said together, "help us there is a creepy voice"
The cashier did not answer.
We went slowly to the cashier. You could hear our hearts beating like a bullet hitting our chest. We got to the cashier and he was dead. All of our minds
went blank. Who killed him...All the feeling went through me at this moment. Questions, what happened too this man? Was it a ghost? Nobody talked
as the dim Walmart lights went dark.At that I felt a hand go over my mouth, a needle in my back, and a man said, "more money for us boss."
Then I felt a bag go over my head as I fell unconscious....
They awaken 2 days later. The place was cold wet and the walls covered with blood. There were screams coming from the other room. Joe and jake was
nowhere to be found I was so scared. A big tall man said, "ha ha ha." As he took me by one hand and put me on a blood covered conveyor belt. There
was a huge saw cutting up people as they went by. Then I used my shoe, got out my knife, cut the belt. I started running and running and running. I

Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War...
I could honestly say that this was an intense, prominent, and grand interpretation of what I think the most audacious exploits of World War II, the
book Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission, by Hampton Sides. It was a specified mission of 121
specialized US Army Rangers that would go behind enemy lines into dangerous territory to perform rescue missions of 513 POWs, many of the
survivors were of the infamous Bataan Death March. The main thesis of this book I believe was how he exploited fundamental differences in the
culture of those involved; also capturing the idea of "hope", the hope of not giving up with the unknown right in front of you. The evidence was
through the words of personal experience mainly. I don't think it would be reliable if it was from a third party assessment, but Hampton was able to
see the lives of the POWs in the dreadful Cabanatuan camp. Hampton was able to witness all of the actions, the way things were processed between
commanders that where leading the mission. He had the chance to understand the Rangers feelings as this was all happening before and after the
campaign and that this rescue mission with such great tactics actually went unnoticed by so many, overlooked by so many.
With everything, I do agree with Hampton Sides in his view of this story even though what he would talk about with each prisoner and their stories
would go back and forth, jumping from one story to another making it hard at

Capitalism : A Ghost Story By Arundhati Roy
The book Capitalism: A Ghost Story by Arundhati Roy is an honest telling of the effects and injustices that have resulted in India due to the rise of
which are often not shared, nor given a chance to be shared with those who are not living those injustices in their everyday life. The book focusses on
numerous examples in contemporary India which display the corruption, inequality, and the tragic results due to the way which capitalism has been
and is unraveling within the country. While the gross domestic product (GDP) has grown since the implementation of a capitalist economy with an
emphasis on privatization, the majority of this growth is happening to a very small group of people, mostly in mega corporations. Roy exposes the
many difficulties which the overwhelming majority of the Indian population are faced to deal with everyday in the name of capitalism, which are often
not realized by those both within and outside of India to uncover the grievances of capitalism in India and other countries across the globe.
The title of the book, Capitalism: AGhost Story, is expressive of the political economic situation that is current in India in numerous ways. On way
which the title reflects of the effect which capitalism is having on the population of India, is that the voices and rights of millions of people are
being ignored and silenced. Roy presents multiple instances in which the capitalism has been put over the rights of the people who live in India.
Often, when land is bought by a corporation, the people who have previously lived on that land are frequently promised reasonable compensation
for their land, as well as promised to have new places to both live and work, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). These new uses of land are often considered to be
public interest for all those in the area and India, but in reality are actually in the best interest of the corporation who purchased the land and plan to
displace millions of people at a time for their benefit, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). While the gross domestic product (GDP) has increased, employment has not,
in fact 60 percent of the workforce is self–employed and 90 percent of the labour force works in the unorganized sector, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). For
example, in 2005,

The Story Of A Ghost Town : A Story
Ghost Town The weather seems to match the old, rundown town; gloomy, dark, always raining. The people looked dull and a melancholy aura

During the day, the townsfolk were safe, but the night belonged to the mythical creatures of the world. Anyone who goes out after dark is said to
turn into one of the creatures and roam the city, forever stuck in a never ending dream. Many people were going missing, most recent the parents
of a girl named Eren. The town adopted her as a whole, but she stayed at an orphanage. She could be found in the old library, silently sitting, only
making sound to flip a page. On a chilly October evening, she was scanning the books with her eyes, when a small red book peaked her interest.
As she dragged her fingers down the spine of the book, it smelled of dust, she slowly opened it to the first page. She gasped and shut it when she
heard footsteps and soft giggling. Eren sighed deeply, but a small smile crept on her lips, it was only her friends trying to scare her for the millionth
time. "I know it's you guys, cut it out." The footsteps stopped and there was sume shushing, but eventually her best friend Amora came out, still clad

Essay on Components of a Good Ghost Story
Components of a Good Ghost Story
A good mystery novel needs to be based on life in the past similar to the Victorian era for the reason that of industrialisation and it was an era of when
inventors started experimenting and creating new and bizarre ideas. In the Victorian era many stories were based around the gothical theme. The story
'signalman' is a ghost story, it was written in 1866 by Charles Dickens. Another example of a gothic story is the 'red room', which is also a ghost
story or contains beings of the spiritual world written by H.G Wells in 1896. Both of these novels were written at the end of the gothic period. I will
now find the similarities of both novels.

Dickens thought of setting the story at a railway line, as the idea of trains was new and fresh. Dickens has set his story at a railway line as trains were
new at the time and it was doubtable that many people would use the train as there were many breakdowns and accidents due to the under testing and
health and safety precautions.
The story of 'redroom' argues about ghosts.
"Ay and eight–and– twenty years I have lived here and never seen a ghost".
This keeps the reader interested to say who is telling the truth and wondering.
In the 'signalman' the story continues as an ordinary story. Later in the story the signalman shares his work and how his life is. At the end there is a
big bang of explosion as a ghost immobilising the signalman.
The writers keeps the interest of the reader by describing the settings and surroundings, the writers also keep the reader in suspense as the reader waits
to be surprised and bedazzled.
"The long, draughty subterranean passage was chilly and dusty".
This phrase is from the novel 'redroom', it has the reader in a anticipating what will happen next thanks to the language Wells has

The New Yorker's Short Story 'Ghosts And Empties'
The July 20, 2015 edition of The New Yorker magazine, contains short story "Ghosts and Empties". The name of which drew me in. Typically when
you hear such a title, you gear yourself in the direction of a mystery, suspense, or even a thriller. I was pleasantly surprised when the story took a
different turn than I was expecting. The story follows an unnamed narrator on her nightly walks through her neighborhood. As I read the story "Ghosts
and Empties", many thoughts passed through my head. I thought of how vividly everything was portrayed, the pace at which the sentence structure
proceeded, or for much better explanation, why I chose to take the walk with the narrator. On this walk I enjoyed the same solidity, and calmness in the

This is the conclusion our narrator comes to after one of her many walks. She says, "It is terribly true, even if the truth does not comfort, that if you
look at the moon for long enough night after night, as I have, you will see that the old cartoons are correct, that the moon is, in fact, laughing, but
not at us, we who are too small and our lives too fleeting for it to give us any notice at all." Life goes on. This statement brought me to think about
one of my favorite quotes. "A man said to the universe: 'Sir, I exist!' 'However,' replied the universe. 'The fact has not created in me, A sense of
obligation."– Stephen Crane. The world owes me nothing. The first time I read this quote it was a slap in the face. This story slapped me in the
face for a second time. I realized I have gone most of my feeling entitled to many major and even minor things. I live life as though I have done
much to deserve things handed to me on a golden platter rather than through hard work. While so caught up in my own world I may have missed out
on the outside. While thinking about my misfortune, I never thought once about the moments that passed and people I have gone by. The earth keeps
turning without me giving it a reward so then why do expect one from it. The moon laughs at a joke told by Venus about Mars, and I in my lowly
human state walk on in awe of the universe. Life goes on but it is too much of a treasure to

A Ghost : A Short Story Of The Ghost
Hello, I am Brooke Hicks, a ghost who looks after her old school. I died from a bunny attack during a science lab experiment. Long story but that is

At this very school, Community House Middle School there was a substitute named Mrs. Mister. Whichever class she substituted, even the very best,
they never listened to her. Similar stories with other substitutes, like Mr. Longbottom, Mrs. Mcdonald's, Ms. Woofgang, Mr. Fergus, Mr. Butterball,
Mrs. Twinkie, Mr. Pee Wee, Ms. FlufferNutter, and Mr. Wigglebottom. All of them were so tired of teachers yelling at them say: "Why did none of my

The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story

  • 1. The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and emotions don't come easily for me, but add this gloomy weather to the after–holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the perfect song on the radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is the ghosts were real. They were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are always there. Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to another level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know what I said. I know what I did. I know where I 've been. I know the power I have over others, and I know I haven't always wielded it responsibly. I know how to inflict pain. When something hurts me, I know how to hurt it 10–fold in return via my words, action, or violence, but the words are what haunt me the most. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He began to hear sounds all around him as he got further into the mystical looking forrest. He tripped over a log and he gasped with fear and began to pant like a dog. His flashlight started flickering, and suddenly went out with a quiet "zzzttt". He could not see two feet in front of him and it suddenly became cold and gloomy, a fog seeped over him. • 5. A Short Story Of A Ghost Story I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town's Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy: dark and well–lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets. The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during this time. My parents' home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways– strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty, love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life, one made sure one was in league with this world. The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language, promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows, horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. M. R. James's Lost Hearts: A Classic Ghost Story Lost Hearts a classic ghost tale was written by M.R. James that tells a story about an orphan boy named Stephen who moves in with his mysterious cousin Mr. Abney. Many people enjoyed the chilling tale that it inspired some people to create films about the story. Two separate versions shared some similarities and differences with the tale. They both attempt to recreate the original story, but the second film portrays the setting, characters, and plot better than the first version. The setting of M.R James original story is best represented in the second version. In the original story, the house is described as a Large Estate that was isolated from everything. The house had an uneasy feeling to it through the way it was furnished, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Short Story : The Story Of A Ghost Story There was a terrible thunderstorm, thunder roared, lightning crackled, and rain poured, but then, everything stopped. 12 year old Grant Purl felt an eerie feeling, a feeling almost as if... "Boo!" "Augggg," Grant screamed. When Grant turned around, he was half expecting to see a ghost, but is just his little brother, Jake. 8 year old Jake was rolling on the floor with laughter. "Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! Oh man you should have seen the look on your face! I mean–," But then Jake stopped when he saw the look on his brother's face. He started to regret what he did, but before he could apologize, Grant yelled, "You little fuzzbrain! Stay outta my room!" "Peace out," said Jake, and he ran out of Grant's room. "Maybe I should go check it out!" Soon, he was outside, But the closer he got to the piece of metal, the more he realized it wasn't just a piece of metal, it was a golden key! Grant wanted the key badly so he took it. Once he got inside of his house he put it under his pillow. Soon, he had to sleep. That night he had a dream, There was a psycho chasing him through the woods screaming, "I'll get you! I'll get you!" Then Grant woke up. He was paralyzed with fear, the dream was so vivid! So real! It was still dark outside, but Grant was wide awake. "The only thing," he said to himself,"that could calm me down right now is the key!" So he reached under his pillow, but he couldn't feel the key! Grant panicked. He turned around trying to remember where he might have put the key– but then he froze. Right in front of him, floating in the air, was the key! Grant was flabbergasted,"Wha? How?!" he sputtered. But before Grant could recover, the key was saying some type of poem, "This key possess dark energy, turnaround, you must flee." The poem echoed through Grants head. "WHAAAAAAAT!?!?!?!? But HOW?" Grant screamed. Naturally Grant enjoyed poetry. But this rhyme sent shivers down his spine. I mean how would you feel? It's not every day a cursed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Representation Of The Feminine Of Select Ghost Stories Of... Representation of the Feminine in Select Ghost Stories of Ruskin Bond Ruskin Bond is one of those rare authors whose writings have been loved and accepted by readers of all ages and groups. His depiction of small town life in India and of ordinary individuals struggling to make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense of appeal and beauty. His stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to be associated with most of Bond 's writing. Yet, there are certain aspects to his writing – as it is true of any other great writer – that deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren 't immediately apparent. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by Bond in order to assess how the character of the female has been represented with a special emphasis on examining an element of the sinister which seems to be associated with each of these women. Whether as ghosts or as real, living individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict harm on other characters which marks them as being decisively dangerous. What this paper tries to ascertain is whether these female characters can be simply branded as being evil or if there are actual, justifiable reasons behind their actions which provokes them to act in the ways they do. The study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions and motivations of these characters who are evidently more complex than they initially appear to be. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

" Diego we should go somewhere that haunts since Halloween is right around the corner," said Vanessa. Halloween School : A Ghost Story On Halloween "So kids, every Halloween, it is said that her ghost, roams the empty hallways of this very school, searching for another female student to take her place." The students were now on the edge of their wooden seats, eyes wide, listening to every word Mr. Morris said. All of a sudden the loud bell breaks the silence, making each one of them jump. "I guess I will have to tell you all the rest of the story on Monday. Have a good Halloween kids. Don't forget about the dance tonight." After most of the students left, only two remained They walked up to Mr. Morris's desk, eager to know more about the ghost story. "Did it really happen?" The girl named Claire asked. Later that evening Outside the Max Morris gymnasium, the frigid wind blew through the trees making the leaves rustle and some fall to the ground. The full moon made dancing shadows on the pavement. • 11. Hannah Betts Ghost Stories: There Was Something About My... The article "Ghost Stories: There Was Something About My New House" by Hannah Betts, follows the author's own paranormal encounter in her old home. Hannah and her family moved into a spacious Victorian manor that was always rumored to be haunted. Being skeptics, the Betts family decided to move into the house anyway. During their time in the manor, several smaller encounters, such as hearing footsteps and voices; which ultimately led to a ghost breaking a mirror, etching 666 into the shards of glass, and writing "I'm going to (explicit) kill you all" in blood. In her article, Betts uses pathos to appeal to the reader's emotions by her use of tone and mood, the parts of speech, and foreshadowing. The author appeals to the reader's emotions through her use of tone and mood. Although tone and mood seem similar they are actually two different concepts. Tone is the authors attitude toward their work, while mood is how the audience feels when reading the work. In her article, Betts' attitude is afraid. This is evident in the first paragraph when she states, "This is a story I have never told in print for fear that I would sound mad." (Betts 1) This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone of the article tells the reader how scared the author is after her experience in the manor and mood makes the reader feel that terror as well. Parts of speech make up the story and add to the eerie mood. Finally foreshadowing lets you feel anxiety toward what will happen later in the article when the ghost in the manor breaks a mirror and writes a chilling message on the wall in blood. While there is controversy in the scientific community over the validity of ghost stories, we can all agree that "Ghost Stories" by Hannah Betts is terrifying, but this would not be possible without the use of ... • 12. Ghost Story of Santa Fe Ghost Trail Essay Santa Fe Ghost Trail As I sat down with the narrator in his dorm on a Sunday afternoon–not the most appropriate time for ghost stories–he told me this well known ghost story from New Mexico. The storyteller is an 18–year–old male freshman majoring in international relations who is from Bethesda, Maryland. He is biracial with an American father and a Taiwanese mother. Born in California and raised in Colorado, the storyteller is a converted Christian. The teller was in the Boy Scouts, which is where this story comes from: There's this really small highway town in New Mexico called Cimarron, and it's small now but in the late 19th century it was a bustling crossroads for all sorts of people – gold speculators, ranchers, oilmen, ... No fan, no heating, no AC, no television, clock, watch, whatever! It was the most basic hotel room ever. And the clicks sounded as if something was floating above me! Like circling above me, like a swarm of bees or something. I was scared sh*tless, but I just tried to go to sleep. And never opened my eyes until the morning, when the bright sun shone in the room. Going to breakfast, I saw the bullet holes left in the ceiling by Billy the Kid and other saloon fighters, and heard the stories told by the kitchen staff about plates and silverware that would randomly fall to the ground and break, and the flickering lights, and other freaky things which I forgot. Even though the storyteller did not personally see the ghost, the story still possess many of elements that are similar to all ghost stories. First, the ghost story takes place at a place where the ghost frequently visits. Similar to other tales, rather than running around aimlessly, ghosts usually haunt one place. This quote said by W. Somerset Maugham claims that people are not what they may seem like, but their true characteristic will show eventually, just like in the book Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story a mystery book by Mary Downing Hahn. In the beginning of the story, Andrew, or Drew as his friends called him, went to visit his aunt in the forest for the summer. They were the same age, and they looked the exact same, they only difference is that Andrew was dead. When Andrew told drew he had diphtheria, they agreed to switch places, so that Andrew can get help from a doctor. When Andrew told Drew to hide in the attic, Drew realizes that Andrew tricked him. Andrew knew that if they switched places, Drew will live in Andrew's world, and Andrew would live in Drew's world. This shows that people are not what they might seem like. One can make a connection between this story and the real world because in this story, the character soon realizes that people are not what they seem like. • 18. Analysis Of ' King's Ghost A Story Of Greed, Terror, And... Manipulation seems to be a common characteristic in swaying peoples perception. Journalism has been an instrument used to act on this manipulation since text has been attainable by the masses. Due to the impressive amount of average folk becoming literate in the early nineteenth century, international journalism was an integral part of the Age of Imperialism. Around this time, industrialized countries were on a quest to colonize and influence any state that was seen as worthy. The role of journalism exposed these worthy, unindustrialized countries and manipulated readers into believing they needed to be altered. This deceptive journalism is evident in Adam Hochschild's King Leopold's Ghost A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa, and influenced many nineteenth and twentieth century perceptions pertaining to humanitarianism and imperialism. Hochschild's uses the story of King Leopold II and his colonization of Africa to depict the notion of imperialists genuine intention's rather than their publicly perceived one's. Using propaganda, Leopold exploits the many faces of journalism and ultimately perceives his backwards Congo into a colonial, humane, necessity for the world. Even though international journalism eventually led to the down fall of Leopold's hypocritical jurisdiction, the principal role of journalists relating to the Congo was to report what was beneficial to the writer. The governess also witnessed many other visions of Quint and Miss Jessel over a period of time, but the reader is left unaware of whether these apparitions are real ghosts or just a figment of the governess' imagination. The story has both traditional and untraditional elements of a ghost story. The opening of the book consists of a group of friends and aquantences gathered around a fire on Christmas eve which straight away agrees with the traditional idea of telling ghost stories. James uses the technique of setting a story within a story (Shakespeare is also known for setting a play within his plays e.g. Mid–summer nights dream and Hamlet). When these things happen with no evidence to prove what occurred, they become a mystery. These three ships have become some of the most well–known ghost stories today. It was the February of 1947 when the SS Ourang Medan was traveling near the Indonesian Coastline and sent out distress calls that were heard by many different ships and listening posts. From these calls, it was hard to know what was happening on the ship but the listeners knew it was something awful (Matthews). The first message received by the rescue people was, "All officers including captain are dead, lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead," (Matthews). The next messages that were received were a series of indecipherable morse codes that were followed by the message "I die," (Matthews). It took a few hours before a ship could come to help the Ourang Medan. Finally, the Ourang Medan was found through triangulation, which uses a series of network triangles to find the position of points in a specific region (Matthews). • 29. The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or believe that the scripture shows the issues and lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in this story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what they think is right and what they are bound to do, even as the smaller character of Regine slightly deals with the same issue. "Duty" comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound to in their life relays to the role they act in society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we are told of her husband's horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is duty–bound to protect her husband 's reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice everything for her son. In return, the son must love his mother. In a way, we question the duty of the mother and ask whether or not it was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband's actions from her son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen's opinion of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice, the reader on their own must make a choice in the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty and protect her son during his young years was a courageous execution for the paths she found available. As said by George Bernard Shaw in ... • 34. Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War... I could honestly say that this was an intense, prominent, and grand interpretation of what I think the most audacious exploits of World War II, the book Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission, by Hampton Sides. It was a specified mission of 121 specialized US Army Rangers that would go behind enemy lines into dangerous territory to perform rescue missions of 513 POWs, many of the survivors were of the infamous Bataan Death March. The main thesis of this book I believe was how he exploited fundamental differences in the culture of those involved; also capturing the idea of "hope", the hope of not giving up with the unknown right in front of you. The evidence was through the words of personal experience mainly. I don't think it would be reliable if it was from a third party assessment, but Hampton was able to see the lives of the POWs in the dreadful Cabanatuan camp. Hampton was able to witness all of the actions, the way things were processed between commanders that where leading the mission. He had the chance to understand the Rangers feelings as this was all happening before and after the campaign and that this rescue mission with such great tactics actually went unnoticed by so many, overlooked by so many. With everything, I do agree with Hampton Sides in his view of this story even though what he would talk about with each prisoner and their stories would go back and forth, jumping from one story to another making it hard at ... • 35. Capitalism : A Ghost Story By Arundhati Roy The book Capitalism: A Ghost Story by Arundhati Roy is an honest telling of the effects and injustices that have resulted in India due to the rise of which are often not shared, nor given a chance to be shared with those who are not living those injustices in their everyday life. The book focusses on numerous examples in contemporary India which display the corruption, inequality, and the tragic results due to the way which capitalism has been and is unraveling within the country. While the gross domestic product (GDP) has grown since the implementation of a capitalist economy with an emphasis on privatization, the majority of this growth is happening to a very small group of people, mostly in mega corporations. Roy exposes the many difficulties which the overwhelming majority of the Indian population are faced to deal with everyday in the name of capitalism, which are often not realized by those both within and outside of India to uncover the grievances of capitalism in India and other countries across the globe. The title of the book, Capitalism: AGhost Story, is expressive of the political economic situation that is current in India in numerous ways. On way which the title reflects of the effect which capitalism is having on the population of India, is that the voices and rights of millions of people are being ignored and silenced. Roy presents multiple instances in which the capitalism has been put over the rights of the people who live in India. Often, when land is bought by a corporation, the people who have previously lived on that land are frequently promised reasonable compensation for their land, as well as promised to have new places to both live and work, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). These new uses of land are often considered to be public interest for all those in the area and India, but in reality are actually in the best interest of the corporation who purchased the land and plan to displace millions of people at a time for their benefit, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). While the gross domestic product (GDP) has increased, employment has not, in fact 60 percent of the workforce is self–employed and 90 percent of the labour force works in the unorganized sector, (Roy, 2014, p. 17). For example, in 2005, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Story Of A Ghost Town : A Story Ghost Town The weather seems to match the old, rundown town; gloomy, dark, always raining. The people looked dull and a melancholy aura followed most everybody. There is a reason to all this sadness though, a curse. An old mage casted a spell on the town and its people centuries ago. During the day, the townsfolk were safe, but the night belonged to the mythical creatures of the world. Anyone who goes out after dark is said to turn into one of the creatures and roam the city, forever stuck in a never ending dream. Many people were going missing, most recent the parents of a girl named Eren. The town adopted her as a whole, but she stayed at an orphanage. She could be found in the old library, silently sitting, only making sound to flip a page. On a chilly October evening, she was scanning the books with her eyes, when a small red book peaked her interest. As she dragged her fingers down the spine of the book, it smelled of dust, she slowly opened it to the first page. She gasped and shut it when she heard footsteps and soft giggling. Eren sighed deeply, but a small smile crept on her lips, it was only her friends trying to scare her for the millionth time. "I know it's you guys, cut it out." The footsteps stopped and there was sume shushing, but eventually her best friend Amora came out, still clad in her school uniform. "Sorry sorry, just wanted to have a little fun, it's always so boring in here with all the books and the reading. I want you to look happier. Anyways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay on Components of a Good Ghost Story Components of a Good Ghost Story A good mystery novel needs to be based on life in the past similar to the Victorian era for the reason that of industrialisation and it was an era of when inventors started experimenting and creating new and bizarre ideas. In the Victorian era many stories were based around the gothical theme. The story 'signalman' is a ghost story, it was written in 1866 by Charles Dickens. Another example of a gothic story is the 'red room', which is also a ghost story or contains beings of the spiritual world written by H.G Wells in 1896. Both of these novels were written at the end of the gothic period. I will now find the similarities of both novels. The social context of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickens thought of setting the story at a railway line, as the idea of trains was new and fresh. Dickens has set his story at a railway line as trains were new at the time and it was doubtable that many people would use the train as there were many breakdowns and accidents due to the under testing and health and safety precautions. At the end there is a big bang of explosion as a ghost immobilising the signalman. The writers keeps the interest of the reader by describing the settings and surroundings, the writers also keep the reader in suspense as the reader waits to be surprised and bedazzled. "The long, draughty subterranean passage was chilly and dusty".

  • 40. The New Yorker's Short Story 'Ghosts And Empties' The July 20, 2015 edition of The New Yorker magazine, contains short story "Ghosts and Empties". The name of which drew me in. Typically when you hear such a title, you gear yourself in the direction of a mystery, suspense, or even a thriller. I was pleasantly surprised when the story took a different turn than I was expecting. The story follows an unnamed narrator on her nightly walks through her neighborhood. As I read the story "Ghosts and Empties", many thoughts passed through my head. I thought of how vividly everything was portrayed, the pace at which the sentence structure proceeded, or for much better explanation, why I chose to take the walk with the narrator. On this walk I enjoyed the same solidity, and calmness in the stillness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the conclusion our narrator comes to after one of her many walks. She says, "It is terribly true, even if the truth does not comfort, that if you look at the moon for long enough night after night, as I have, you will see that the old cartoons are correct, that the moon is, in fact, laughing, but not at us, we who are too small and our lives too fleeting for it to give us any notice at all." Life goes on. This statement brought me to think about one of my favorite quotes. "A man said to the universe: 'Sir, I exist!' 'However,' replied the universe. 'The fact has not created in me, A sense of obligation."– Stephen Crane. The world owes me nothing. The first time I read this quote it was a slap in the face. This story slapped me in the face for a second time. I realized I have gone most of my feeling entitled to many major and even minor things. I live life as though I have done much to deserve things handed to me on a golden platter rather than through hard work. While so caught up in my own world I may have missed out on the outside. While thinking about my misfortune, I never thought once about the moments that passed and people I have gone by. The earth keeps turning without me giving it a reward so then why do expect one from it. The moon laughs at a joke told by Venus about Mars, and I in my lowly human state walk on in awe of the universe. Life goes on but it is too much of a treasure to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. A Ghost : A Short Story Of The Ghost Hello, I am Brooke Hicks, a ghost who looks after her old school. I died from a bunny attack during a science lab experiment. Long story but that is for another time. Well now I am going to tell you about something happening at this school right now. At this very school, Community House Middle School there was a substitute named Mrs. Mister. Whichever class she substituted, even the very best, they never listened to her. Similar stories with other substitutes, like Mr. Longbottom, Mrs. Mcdonald's, Ms. Woofgang, Mr. Fergus, Mr. Butterball, Mrs. Twinkie, Mr. Pee Wee, Ms. FlufferNutter, and Mr. Wigglebottom. All of them were so tired of teachers yelling at them say: "Why did none of my students complete any of their work?!" "I tell them to but non–" "No there is no excuses! I gave you work to assign to them! Now we are two days behind!" "But they don'–" "No more. I am reporting this to Ms. Brooks." That's how most go. But here is a wayyyyyyyyyy over the top class. Ms. Nielsen's second block had Mrs.Mister. They had nerf guns and were ready to fire. But of course Keya and Brooke were hiding in the female teachers bathroom. When Ms.Mister came in the other kids were like"FIRE!!!!! SUBSTITUTES SUCK!!!!!" Mrs.Mister was no match for those kids. She was so traumatized she couldn't tell Ms.Brooks. She nightmares for months and couldn't open a door in her house unless she had a nerf gun. (Also Bobby Chicken was in that class) Anyway, so all these substitutes got together and ...
