Why Is Mariano Rivera Cheaper
Mariano Rivera: The Greatest Closing Pitcher of All Time Mariano Rivera, born November 29,
1969 in Panama City, Panama, was a Major League Baseball (MLB) closing pitcher for the New
York Yankees from the years 1995 to 2013. He signed with the Yankees on February 17, 1990 and
was called up to the major leagues in May of 1995, but was sent back down to the minor leagues so
that he could obtain more training and experience. Rivera was finally called back up to the majors in
June of 1995 after he impressed many with his increased pitching speed. Mariano Rivera started off
as a starting pitcher, but eventually moved to the closer position where he dominated and greatly
helped the Yankees. Rivera is considered the best closing pitcher in all of baseball for many reasons
such as his famous "cutter" pitcher, the numerous records he set, and for his positive attitude and
ways of giving back. The first reason why Mariano Rivera is the best closing pitcher in all of
baseball is because of his famous "cutter" pitch. Rivera discovered his famous pitch on accident, but
he continued to work on it and eventually made a science out of it. Rivera threw his cutter in a way
that made it very hard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coca-Cola Advertisement Essay examples
What could possibly be more American than apple pie, baseball or the anonymous World War II
kiss? Coca– Cola, of course! Coke's strong pathos resonates as a symbol of America's golden years.
The Coke bottle montage adorned in pictures of unforgettable American events, artists and past
times embodies what it truly means to be American. To be American means to take pride in your
country and represent as a unit, not as an individual. All the components that have compose this
montage grasp the concept of American patriotism. One of the most identified brands in the world:
Coca–Cola has distinguished itself as a symbol of American pride. Since, its 1886 debut, Coca–Cola

The revolution lead to a revolt as well as the rebirth of the old classic coke. Two new campaigns
were introduced after the consumer crisis in 1985: the most popular Red White and You, pathetic
appeal for Coca–Cola classic and the Catch the Wave for the new taste of coke ("The Real Story of
New Coke"). During the summer, Coca– Cola announced the taste variance; frantic consumers
purchased coke in bulk hoarding the remains in their homes while others formed protest bands with
claims to having brought back the original formula. Coke's prior history is significant because they
used their short fall as a comeback. For instance if you fail a test but then study harder for the next
one and receive a passing grade, you have redeemed yourself. Same with failing in an area of life
there is still a chance reclaim the past downfall to enrich the future. The dominance of recognizable
red and white signify America patriotism. Red compels audience's attention, the company's power,
and power in general. For example, the 1985 soft drink revolution appalled Coca–Cola's risk to go
above and beyond to gain customer satisfaction. Mr. Goizueta mentions, "that it sent an incredibly
powerful signal ... a signal that we really were ready to do whatever was necessary to build value for
the owners of our business" ("The Real Story of New Coke"). The white color used as a primary

Jackie Robinson Persuasive Speech
Do you wonder who Jackie Robinson really was, and what team he played for? Well then I will tell
you. Jackie Robinson was not always so happy most of the time he was sad and mad. Jackie was
usually sad and mad because everyone would tell him he cannot play baseball, wrote threats and put
them on his door, made fun of his skin color and race and treated him very poorly. Jackie on the
other hand dealt with all of this and just ignored those people while he played baseball for the
Brooklyn Dodgers and lived with his mom Mrs. Robinson and Jackie Junior. Every time Jackie had
a baseball game to go to Mrs. Robinson and Jackie Junior would go with him to cheer him on
(because the crowds did not like Jackie so much). In a 1997 world series game ... Show more

Unlike all the other baseballs classic legends Jackie Robinson was a really uneaq type of player. He
had the heart of a true man he was smart and intelligent, fierce and aggressive type of player.
Although he and his family might have not been rich and wealthy they still had food to eat, a place
to sleep in and most importantly a family to live with. Jackie Robinson I believed played for two
teams the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers, and in both of those teams he most likely
faced hard times playing for them but he got used to it and got on with his career and his (OWN

Elvis Presley's Coca-Col A Classical Icon
Since the 1890's, Coca Cola has been extremely successful, has obtained billions of dollars in profit,
and has grown into a huge icon around the world. When the company was founded in Atlanta,
Georgia, they have continuously attempted to incorporate American values into their products within
their advertisements. In 2008, Coca Cola published an advertisement that reflected American icons
throughout the mid–1900s. The purpose of the ad is to show the buyers of this product that Coca
Cola will never go out of style because it is seen as a classical icon throughout American history.
Through the designer's choice of text, color scheme, and images, the company portrays itself as an
American classic. The advertisement was created to sell any of the Coca Cola products as well as
the idea that the brand is an American classic that will "never go out of style." By incorporating

America, Elvis Presley. Elvis is known as "the king of rock n' roll," a name rightfully given to him
because he introduced the country to a new style of music and created a whole new era in the music
industry. The use of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones reminds the customers of how the company
has evolved with the bands. Although both of them originated in England, they helped Elvis
introduce and spark the era of rock n' roll in America. All three of these musicians became huge
icons in the music industry with their music known and appreciated worldwide. Marilyn Monroe

American movies. Both women are role models whom many women look up to and

Professional Sports: The Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs are an American professional baseball franchise located on the north side of
Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's National
League.
The club played its first games in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings, before officially becoming
the Chicago Cubs for the 1903 season. The Cubs are the oldest currently active U.S. professional
sports club, continuously existing in the same city for their entire history. They are one of the two
remaining charter members of the National League (the other being the Atlanta Braves). Since
Chicago did not have a fully operating White Stockings team for two seasons due to the Great
Chicago Fire, differences continue to be voiced when considering the

Coca Cola Essay
Coca Cola was created by Pharmacist Dr. John Styth Pemberton. He developed the formula for the
famous soft drink in his backyard on May 8, 1886. Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson,
came up with the idea for the unique cursive logo that has been the trade mark ever since. On May
29, 1886 the very first ad appeared in the Atlanta Journal:
Coca–Cola. Delicious! Refreshing! Exhilarating! Invigorating! The New and Popular Soda Fountain
Drink, containing the properties of the wonderful Coca plant and the famous Cola nuts. For sale by
Willis Venable and Nunnally & Rawson.
Dr. Pemberton died shortly after this ad and sales plummeted. Robinson didn't want the business to

However, Coca–Cola continued to stay with the ads that showed 'happy scenes of everyday life.'
These ads helped people escape the realities of the depression and gave them hope that life would
return to normal. Examples included a woman taking a break from gardening to refresh herself with
a Coke, boys and girls in soda fountain ads and Artist Haddon Soundon's famous image of Santa
Claus with a Coke on billboards. The people responded to these ads and Coca–Cola stayed
profitable even during the depression.
World War II had a major effect on Coca–Cola's advertising decisions in the next few years. Their
war time policy was "We will see that every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca–Cola for five
cents wherever he is and whatever it costs." The company wanted Coke to be a boost for morale and
to promote patriotism. The ads replaced the boys and girls at the soda fountain with smiling soldiers.
Another ad in 1943 urged people to buy war bonds and war stamps and still another showed two
women allies enjoying the "pause that refreshes." Coca–Cola wanted to show that they were part of
the American war effort. The famous red Coca–Cola disk gave the image of the American way of
life before the war and during the war. The interactive advertising strategies and techniques before
and during the war made success possible and made Coca–Cola an American icon today.

eventually became Fernando Valenzuela personal catcher. All of this happen before becoming a full–
time catcher. Some people say that the fans told him "dos burritos y una cervesa" which was a
Spanish pitching code.
In the spring of 1991, Fernando Valenzuela was released if the Los Angeles Dodgers. He then tried
to make a comeback with the California Angels. He failed and later signed a contract with the
Detroit Tigers. The downside was that he never got the chance to play for the team. His Co tract was
later purchased by Jalisco from the Mexican league. He later tried to make another comeback. He
went with the Baltimore Orioles in 1993.
Valenzuela was jumping between the big leagues and the Mexican leagues until he went with the

Essay on A Brief History of America’s National Pastime
An article in the Babe Ruth Central website tells the story which took place in game three of the
World Series in Chicago's Wrigley Field. The New York Yankees were up two games to none on the
Chicago Cubs. In the fifth inning, with the score tied four–four, many of the nearly 50,000 fans, and
even players in the Chicago dugout, began taunting and heckling the batter. What happened next
went down in baseball history as one of the most famous and controversial at–bats. The batter was
none other than Babe Ruth, who, with two strikes and two balls, stepped out of the batters box and
gestured toward the outfield as if to show where he was going to hit the ball. Ruth hits the next pitch

Terry Bluett in "Baseball and the Civil War" explains prior to the war, baseball was a game only
played in the New York area. Those who played the game and went off to war began to teach their
fellow soldiers how to play. Soldiers of all ranks participated in playing baseball in their camps and
were even promoted by generals because it greatly improved the morale within the camps (Bluett).
Another jump in popularity took place during World War II. Many players at the time went off to
war, which may have contributed to the statistically lower level of play. However, President
Roosevelt wanted the game to continue through the war to give the American people a constant in
their everyday life. The 1945 season saw an all–time high attendance and was the last year of the
war (Corso). In the subsequent 50 years, baseball has had a steady increase. The MLB has seen their
gross income skyrocket recently earning $8 billion in 2013. A $6.6 billion increase from the 1995
season even though there has been a slight drop in kids and adults playing the sport in the last ten
years. This data may show that baseball has lessened its popularity among the younger
demographic, possibly because of their short attention spans (Bickley). Baseball's popularity in the
future may be a topic for debate, but what is known for sure is that baseball has been a very popular
sport in this country for the past 150 years and has been a large contributor to American culture. As

Baseball Operations For The Chicago Cubs
There are an increasing number of people rising up and looking to revolutionize baseball as we
know it. These people, called sabermatricians, come wielding spreadsheets and calculators as their
weapons of choice. Innovators like them are beginning to view baseball through a different set of
lenses than the rest. Others have looked through statistical glasses or scouting spectacles, but their
vision has never been optimal. People like them have the correct lenses, but they have not been
using the lenses in the proper context. Theo Epstein, the President of Baseball Operations for the
Chicago Cubs, once said that stats and scouting are two lenses of the same pair of glasses, and that
the pair of glasses is called sabermetrics, and these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These advanced metrics also provided much overdue improvements to old methods of baseball
research. Old–timey statistics are inputted to the sabes machine, and the new output is "quantified
baseball players' performances based on objective statistical measurements, especially in opposition
to many of the established statistics (such as, for example, runs batted in and pitching wins) that
give less accurate approximations of individual efficacy" (Never, "Sabermetrics"). This revolution
has given statistics a more clear meaning and true, measurable value for the first time. Scouting as
well has been improved upon, as the five tools scouts grade on now have that measured value that
scouts may refer to when making notes or personnel decisions.
Statistics, specifically how they measure and control data, as well as help us learn from it, has and
always will be a part of baseball ("What is statistics"). Stats are very, very useful for many purposes
in the sport, and can help keep some analysis simplistic. The most effective use of stats in baseball is
the comparison between teammates within the same season. Within these parameters, the numbers
come from very similar environments, as the teammates are playing against the same teams in the
same ballparks at the same time. There are no outside factors potentially skewing the

The Cubs Way By Tom Verducci
The Cubs Way, written by Tom Verducci, reveals how the Chicago Cubs finally won the World
Series after being "cursed" for 108 years. Tom Verducci is a baseball writer for Sports Illustrated and
baseball analyst for Fox Sports. Verducci announced his first World Series in 2014 for Fox. He has
also written The Yankee Years and several other baseball books. In The Cubs Way, Verducci details
Chicago Cubs' first World Series championship since 1908 in a way that cannot be found anywhere

Prior to 2016, the Chicago Cubs had been winless in the World Series since 1908. They had only
reached the World Series once, in 1945, and came within five outs of it in 2003 in the famous Steve
Bartman game. The Cubs' first initiative in rebuilding the team was the hire of Theo Epstein. Epstein

He saw the Cubs as a chance to be a part of history and knew what a World Series championship
would mean to the Cubs' fans. Epstein first established his goals for the Cubs and his plan to rebuild
the team. He wanted "impact players", players who were not only skilled players on the field, but
were leaders and genuinely good people off of it. His four impact players he would acquire were
Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russell, and Kyle Schwarber. These players would be at the
core of the 2016 World Series championship team. In 2014, Epstein hired Joe Maddon as the Cubs
manager, the final piece of the puzzle. "As soon as I found out he was available I knew we had to
have him." After Maddon's hire, the Cubs would quickly develop into a successful team, winning 97
games in 2015, and beating the Cardinals, their arch rival, in the NLDS. In 2016, the Cubs would

includes souvenir shops, food vendors etc. And finally, the most un–baseball related aspect of the
new stadium on the list is the fact that Yankee Stadium will be open year round with clubs,
restaurants, banquet rooms, conference rooms and business centers, and will host corporate outings,
business meetings, bat mitzvahs, seminars and weddings (M.L.B. Advanced Media, "New Yankee

knows the potential of the Yankee organization, and he feels that the new stadium is the best thing

their home fields, so the Yankees obviously needed to keep up. Cashman feels that the new stadium

Baseball Influence On Baseball
Millions of people across the globe prepare all year for this. It takes over one hundred and sixty–two

Jackie Robinson was signed to the Dodgers organization in 1946 by Branch Rickey and he was
assigned to the Montreal Royals in the International League. Branch Rickey's antics were bold and
unorthodox which made him frowned upon by his white colleagues until they realized years later the
continued success that the integration had brought the game of baseball, referred to as America's
pastime. Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947 and became the
first African American major league baseball player of the modern era. Jackie Robinson spent one
season with the Montreal Royals before called up to the big league club, the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Jackie's impact was felt immediately and he was one of the reasons why the Dodgers captured the
pennant. He also won the Rookie of the Year award. Being the first player to break the color barrier
came with many unfortunate consequences because the US wasn't ready for integration and Jim
Crow laws were still firmly in effect. Jackie Robinson received death threats and had to endure
racial slurs during every game. Jackie had to "turn the other cheek" as Mr. Branch Rickey put it
because if Jackie would retaliate then the black integration movement would be rejected completely
by Major League Baseball because they would that African Americans lack of self control would
endanger the game. Also in 1947, Larry Doby was signed by the Cleveland Indians and became the
first African American player in the American League. The following year in 1948, legendary

The different's between baseball and football is that football is at a fast paste and baseball is at a

Baseball was divided by two leagues the Nationals and the American. Baseball has more games then
football. Football has 16 games in a season and baseball has 162 games in a season. Baseball is so

we can all recall it from a memory at a baseball park or from any of the countless baseball movies
ever produced. This classic sound has traveled through the years, from the beginnings of
professional baseball to today. First called a national pastime in 1856, baseball has endured over two
hundred and twenty years as a sport in America, almost as long as America has been America. It has
been with us through revolutions, civil wars, world wars, and depressions. To quote Gerald Early in
Ken Burns' documentary, Baseball, "There are only three things that America will be remembered
for 2000 years from now when they study this civilization: The Constitution, Jazz music, and
Baseball."
The memories shared through generations of baseball can be pictured by many, the pickup game of
all the neighborhood boys in the vacant lot down the street, the miraculous foul ball landing right in
your lap, the classic summer day spent at the ballpark eating hotdogs and singing "Take Me Out to
the Ball Game" and "Sweet Caroline." But more recently, these classic memories are being replaced
by those of overbearing Little League coaches who need to take a chill pill, boring games that go on
for nine extra innings, and overpriced hotdogs that just don't taste right.
Baseball has basked in the glory of

Analysis Of The Book ' Fish Out Of Water '
FIELDER'S CHOICE is a very enjoyable sports dramedy that centers on the idea of a man, who
could have lived a different life if he had made different life choices. He's given a chance to see both
destinies and must choose one. The tone combines drama with fantasy and a bit of humor. It's also
considered a classic "fish out of water" story. The script examines the themes of second chances,
making the right life choices, and on the idea of destiny.
The premise reminds one of the film called THE FAMILY MAN. Like in that film, the protagonist,
Carly, wakes up to find that he's living an entirely different life and eventually at the end he must
make a choice between worlds. It's a nice setup for drama, fun, conflict, and character growth. In ...

This is the setup for his eventual character arc when he picks family over baseball.
The catalyst that moves the story forward is when Carly hits his head again, but this time wakes up
in an alternate universe. He's given his wish and he's living his dream as a famous baseball player.
He gets to see his father again, but with that are consequences. He's no longer has Carly or his kids.
The second act is driven by Carly adapting to his new world, but he soon realizes that he's not
happy. Eventually, he wants to find a way back home to Anna and his old world. However, this
comes late.
Thus, while the opening is strong, the second act, once he's in his new world, becomes sluggish.
While there are intriguing moments of him discovering how rich he is and the idea of him being
reunited with his father is a smart story choice, the second act doesn't have a strong goal or focus.
Again, it's not until late that he decides he needs to find a way back home. In fact, when he first
arrives in his new world, he doesn't seem to be a man who thinks much about his kids or his old life.
It also takes him a long time to even contact Anna. It's not until page 61 that he contacts her.
Thus, her character is missing from page 19 all the way until page 61. Reconsider this. In fact, when
he wakes up in his new world, perhaps he sees Anna at the game and mistakenly thinks that

The History of Baseball
Baseball in America is about as common as alcohol in college , it is everywhere and participated by
everyone. Children and adults play baseball in small towns and large cities and professionals play it

Reasons Why Basketball Is The Best Sport
Many people believe that basketball and football can be the best sports in the world. Basketball can
be known as the best sport because it's played all over the world and tons of people like to
play/watch it. For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch
football every Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The
great sport of baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called Cooperstown, New York. Many of you
might know that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist
destination. Once the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even
some parts of the world. Now it's played in almost every single country in the entire world. It's crazy
how a sport like baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports
getting injured is always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common
injuries that a player can get. Also in football, there's now a growing concern over CTE problems
which is concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to
retire for this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can
almost guarantee a return at some point. So, my point is that MLB doesn't have as many injuries as
the other sports do so this attracts more players. Baseball is the easiest sport to just pick up

Coca Cola Is Better Than Pepsi
Coca–Cola is Better Than Pepsi! Despite its relation to obesity and other health risk, soda still
remains as a popular beverage in the United States, and upon other demographic groups. Amongst
the lineup of refreshments, Pepsi and Coca–Cola are the most leading carbonated cola beverage
brands around the world. Pepsi and Coca–Cola had been rivals when introduced respectively in the

brands were undergoing global advertising war trying to dominate each other. Between the two
brands, Coca–Cola seem to be superior to Pepsi due to it's creative advertisements that grabs
consumer's attention. Coca–Cola portrays rhetorical strategies within the advertisement to catch the
audience's attention by using ethos, pathos, and logos.

The New York Yankees Baseball Organization
Over a 114–year period between 1901 and 2015, the New York Yankees baseball organization has
taken sole positioning as the most successful franchise in the professional baseball world. As a
whole the franchise has won: 43 American League pennants and 27 world championship titles. With
statistics and accomplishments this vast, it is no wonders the Yankees are renowned and
acknowledged as one of the most outstanding baseball teams in the sport. The New York Yankee's
franchise was founded in 1901, in Baltimore, Maryland. The franchise played its inaugural season
two year later on January 9, 1903. The founders of this historic franchise organization were two
gentlemen by the names of Frank Farrell and Bill Devery. This franchise has dominated the sport of
Major League Baseball over a century, recording 20 seasons with at least 100 wins "Hiergesell."
When the franchise was moved to Manhattan from Baltimore they received the name Highlanders
and were relocated to their new home field known as Hilltop Park "Yankees Timeline." The 1923
squad would always be the most memorable team because they defeated the New York Giants to
earn the first of a total of 27 World Series championships (the all–time record in professional
baseball). The New York Yankees (1936–1939 and 1949–1953) and the Oakland A's (1972–1974),
are the only two franchises in all of baseball to win the fall classic in three consecutive seasons. The

The Importance Of Baseball In The United States

the United States into what appears to be the zenith of baseball; but Japan's national baseball league,
the Nippon Baseball League is alive and well. According to WorldBaseballClassic.com, Japan's

Baseball: America's Pastime
Baseball is the greatest game that has ever been created. Many would try to argue against this, but
they will be wrong because in baseball it is the only sport where succeeding thirty percent of the
time makes you a good player. Additionally, the batter only has four tenths of a second to decide if
the ball will be a strike or not and figure out whether they want to swing at the pitch thrown. In
baseball you can run out the clock and hold onto the ball, you have to give the other team a chance
to score. Baseball is popular in North America and parts of Central and South America, the
Caribbean, and East Asia.
Baseball is America's pastime, it is the greatest game ever invented. You are forced to give the other

The Importance Of Popular Religion
Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses
on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert
Ellwood, "Popular religion can be considered a sector–and a very important sector of popular
culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood
and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious
popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons"
(131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the
Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely
for this huge honor given to them.
The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago.
Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion,
individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a
holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children
are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire
city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a
holiday at all. The parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago did that

Rhetorical Analysis
Major League baseball players have an impact on the youth of today. They are role models, both
good and bad, for young people who look up to them and want to be just like them. In the articles
reviewed, there are examples of how baseball players have inspired people, showed and received
respect for their actions, put their team before themselves, gave back through charities, and made
mistakes but overcame them.
In the article "Baseball has a rich history of big league role models", author Lyle Spencer uses
several big name athletes and their experiences to show the impact that a professional athlete has on
future athletes and the impressionable youth of today. The article points out that each player named

It is not how much money they make or what team they play on, it is about the person that they are
and what they represent as a person. What the person stands for and how they present themselves is
what matters and what makes them a good role model. Baseball has had many great athletes
throughout the years that fit that mold as great role models based on their actions and words. It is
extremely important to remember, as stated in the article, "the respect you get is equal to the respect
you give." (Spencer) The author is saying that you have to earn respect by giving respect. This
article shows us how major league baseball players had role models in baseball that played in time
periods before them. The article also shows that it takes a lot more than just a good player to be a
great role model but a good person who put his team and others before himself. Derek Jeter may be
the greatest example of this in the article "Trout said. "Everything I've heard about him is true. Great
person, everything he does is the right thing. He's out there playing hard. He's great with the
community. He's a great role model." (Spencer) Mike Trout who is maybe the best player right now
and is slowly becoming a great role model tells us Derek Jeter is a great role model. Jeter was even
impressed with Trout when the two played an all–star game together and it led to Jeter giving Trout's
family his personal suite for a series where the two were playing against each other in the Bronx at

Baseball Is The Oldest Professional Sport

It was 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia, the Civil War was finally over and war veteran and pharmacist Dr.

This creates a complication for companies that are trying to create advertisements that will

Summary Of The Brayan Pena Story
Playing in the MLB is a dream that many kids have, not just in America but around the world. As a
Cuban born boy Brayan Pena dreamed about playing in the major leagues, but being from Cuba
made getting to America just as hard as getting into the major leagues. In 1999, at age 16, Pena was
playing for the Cuban National team when his friend approached him and told him of an opportunity
for him to leave Cuba. Without notifying any family or friends, for fear of serious trouble, he left
Cuba with no money and just the clothes on his back.
Reading the Brayan Pena story had me thinking about life in Cuba and how scared Pena must have
been leaving his family at 16 years old without saying goodbye and not knowing whether he would
ever see them again. It also had me thinking about how worried his family must have been not
knowing his whereabouts and whether or not he was safe. I admire him for the courage,
determination, and bravery he exemplified when he left for America to seek his passion, his dream.
With Cuba and the United States restoring full diplomatic ties on December 17, 2014 Brayan Pena
finally had an opportunty to return home for the first time in 16 years. One of Pena friends, Leonor

After Amazing Achievements, Derek Jeter is Set to Retire
Derek Jeter has announced that after this upcoming 2014 season he will be retiring from the game of

Yankee but also as a leader in the MLB.
From an early age Derek Jeter was being scouted and projected to be a major league star. As a senior
in high school, many professional teams including the Colorado Rockies scouted Jeter. A copy of the
scouting report on Jeter says, "This guy is special. You get excited just watching him warm up. All–
Star potential at MLB level." (Axisa, Mike, CBSSports.com). This was very high–level praise
coming from an MLB scout when talking about a high school senior. Being as it may, Jeter was not
drafted by the Rockies; the New York Yankees in the 1992 draft drafted him with the 6th overall
pick. In his rookie year with the Yankees he won the AL Rookie of the Year award and the Yankees
won their first world series in 18 years. This was the start of a very successful career for the Yankee
great. Jeter has proven the scouting report to be truthful, becoming and MLB All–Star 13 times. He
has been named All–Star game MVP once as well as American League MVP once, coincidently in
the same year, 2000. Also, Jeter has won the Gold Glove 5 times and has won the American League
Silver Slugger award 5 times. Possibly the most important statistic of Jeter's on the field career is
that he and his team have won 5 World Series Championships together over the span

Compare And Contrast Baseball And Soccer
"Soccer Is A Magical Game"
David Beckham
Soccer or Baseball, which sport is better?
Soccer is loved by many people around the world because it gives them the action they want to see
and the excitement they look for due to movement of the ball. While in Baseball, the ball just goes
to another guys hand and has no excitement to it.
In baseball you can use your hands to move around the ball, but in soccer you can only use your legs
or any part of the body except your hands. Unless you are the goalie. You can do a lot of tricks with
your feet, a lot of jukes and fakes. It makes the crowd go crazy when they see a player juke
someone. Thats what the people/crowd want, excitement and something new, a little taste to the
game. With baseball you can't really make any tricks with the ball while it's on your hand except to
just throw it. The pitcher is the only one with real skills, because he decides the ball movement
when he pitches. The crowd will just watch the ball go to one hand to another, boredly for two hours
or three according to Bleacherreport.com, while eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baseball has 9 players on the field and Soccer has 11 players on the field. But here is where the
difference is. Baseball is more an individual activity. Batting, running down to catch the ball, and
pitching are all individuals activities. They don't really work as a team, mostly depend on
themselves. In soccer, they all have to work as a team to reach the goal. Sometimes they can try
alone, but the game looks better when they all work as a team. They can make crazy plays and
passes to create a goal. The people want to see the unexpected and that's what soccer brings to them.
With new or classic plays. Like Simon Critchley said, "Soccer is a collective game, a team game,
and everyone has to play the part which has been assigned to them, which means they have to

originally called The White Stockings. They shortened the name to White Sox in 1902. In 1919
Chicago White Sox had the best record in the American League. Comiskey had built one of the most

No club played better in 1919, but few were paid so poorly. Many knowledgeable observers believe
that it was Comiskey's stinginess that is largely to blame for the Black Sox scandal: if Comiskey had
not grossly underpaid his players and treated them so unfairly, they would never have agreed to
throw the Series. Comiskey was able to get away with paying low salaries because of the "reserve
clause" in players' contracts. This clause prevented players from changing teams without the
permission of the owners. Comiskey even charged his players for laundering their uniforms. In
protest, for several weeks the players wore the same increasingly dirty uniforms. Comiskey removed
the uniforms from their lockers and fined the players. the White Sox players did not get along with
each other. Their constant infighting was marked by jealousy and verbal abuse. The team was
divided into two cliques, one led by second baseman Eddie Collins and the other by first baseman
Chick Gandil. Collins's group was smart, sophisticated, and got paid as high as $15,000. Gandil's
group, who only earned an average of $6,000, bitterly resented the

The Globalization of Sports Essay
Sport is an ever growing aspect of our cultures, and as the access to different avenues of sport begin
to present themselves we question the ability of sport organizations to expand globally. This review
of literature will examine different avenues of sport and the research that has been done in regards to
their effort to expand on a global scale. Arguably one of the most successful avenues of sport to
expand globally is soccer. Soccer is played in more countries(204) than any other sport. (Klein,
2008) A perfect example of soccer as a brand that has expanded globally is Manchester United. In a
case study by John S. Hill and John Vincent Manchester United's Globalization in sport branding is
examined through using David Aaker's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hill & Vincent, 2006) Finally, the heritage of Manchester United which include the crest and
nickname, but also include the winning history where the determining factors that established
Manchester United as a strong brand as symbol. (Hill & Vincent, 2006) Although, the case study of
Manchester United gives us a good example of a brand's ability to globalize, it does not give us a
clear picture into how a league as a whole accomplishes these same goals. To get this clear picture
of a successful global soccer league we can review a case study by Matthew Holt that examines the
UEFA Champions League and its ability to succeed. The UEFA Champions League(UCL) was
established after the UEFA European cup started to see more revenue increases based on the
increase in television and digital technologies. (Holt, 2007) The goal of the UCL was to increase
revenue through a newly structured European club soccer league. The first way that UCL
accomplished this was through centralized marketing. This was accomplished through selling the
television rights as the UCL brand rather than allowing the clubs to individually sell the rights to the
games. This increased the value of the television rights and in turn increased the profitability of the
clubs. (Holt, 2007) UEFA sold this UCL brand

Why Is Mariano Rivera Cheaper

  • 1. Why Is Mariano Rivera Cheaper Mariano Rivera: The Greatest Closing Pitcher of All Time Mariano Rivera, born November 29, 1969 in Panama City, Panama, was a Major League Baseball (MLB) closing pitcher for the New York Yankees from the years 1995 to 2013. He signed with the Yankees on February 17, 1990 and was called up to the major leagues in May of 1995, but was sent back down to the minor leagues so that he could obtain more training and experience. Rivera was finally called back up to the majors in June of 1995 after he impressed many with his increased pitching speed. Mariano Rivera started off as a starting pitcher, but eventually moved to the closer position where he dominated and greatly helped the Yankees. Rivera is considered the best closing pitcher in all of baseball for many reasons such as his famous "cutter" pitcher, the numerous records he set, and for his positive attitude and ways of giving back. The first reason why Mariano Rivera is the best closing pitcher in all of baseball is because of his famous "cutter" pitch. Rivera discovered his famous pitch on accident, but he continued to work on it and eventually made a science out of it. Rivera threw his cutter in a way that made it very hard for ... • 3. Coca-Cola Advertisement Essay examples What could possibly be more American than apple pie, baseball or the anonymous World War II kiss? Coca– Cola, of course! Coke's strong pathos resonates as a symbol of America's golden years. The Coke bottle montage adorned in pictures of unforgettable American events, artists and past times embodies what it truly means to be American. To be American means to take pride in your country and represent as a unit, not as an individual. All the components that have compose this montage grasp the concept of American patriotism. One of the most identified brands in the world: Coca–Cola has distinguished itself as a symbol of American pride. Since, its 1886 debut, Coca–Cola has been the world leader in "Delicious and Refreshing" soft drinks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The revolution lead to a revolt as well as the rebirth of the old classic coke. Two new campaigns were introduced after the consumer crisis in 1985: the most popular Red White and You, pathetic appeal for Coca–Cola classic and the Catch the Wave for the new taste of coke ("The Real Story of New Coke"). During the summer, Coca– Cola announced the taste variance; frantic consumers purchased coke in bulk hoarding the remains in their homes while others formed protest bands with claims to having brought back the original formula. Coke's prior history is significant because they used their short fall as a comeback. For instance if you fail a test but then study harder for the next one and receive a passing grade, you have redeemed yourself. Same with failing in an area of life there is still a chance reclaim the past downfall to enrich the future. The dominance of recognizable red and white signify America patriotism. Red compels audience's attention, the company's power, and power in general. For example, the 1985 soft drink revolution appalled Coca–Cola's risk to go above and beyond to gain customer satisfaction. Mr. Goizueta mentions, "that it sent an incredibly powerful signal ... a signal that we really were ready to do whatever was necessary to build value for the owners of our business" ("The Real Story of New Coke"). • 5. Jackie Robinson Persuasive Speech Do you wonder who Jackie Robinson really was, and what team he played for? Well then I will tell you. Jackie Robinson was not always so happy most of the time he was sad and mad. Jackie was usually sad and mad because everyone would tell him he cannot play baseball, wrote threats and put them on his door, made fun of his skin color and race and treated him very poorly. Jackie on the other hand dealt with all of this and just ignored those people while he played baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers and lived with his mom Mrs. Robinson and Jackie Junior. Every time Jackie had a baseball game to go to Mrs. Robinson and Jackie Junior would go with him to cheer him on (because the crowds did not like Jackie so much). In a 1997 world series game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike all the other baseballs classic legends Jackie Robinson was a really uneaq type of player. He had the heart of a true man he was smart and intelligent, fierce and aggressive type of player. Although he and his family might have not been rich and wealthy they still had food to eat, a place to sleep in and most importantly a family to live with. Jackie Robinson I believed played for two teams the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers, and in both of those teams he most likely faced hard times playing for them but he got used to it and got on with his career and his (OWN LIFE). Even though the 1997 baseball legend Jackie Robinsons play making days are over his name, cards, memories and probably some people in the world still have a pair of his baseball cleats (if he even made a pair of Jackie Robinson baseball cleats) in honor of such a playmaker memory maker baseball player legend he was. When the company was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, they have continuously attempted to incorporate American values into their products within their advertisements. In 2008, Coca Cola published an advertisement that reflected American icons throughout the mid–1900s. Through the designer's choice of text, color scheme, and images, the company portrays itself as an American classic. The use of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones reminds the customers of how the company has evolved with the bands. Although both of them originated in England, they helped Elvis introduce and spark the era of rock n' roll in America. • 11. Coca Cola Essay Coca Cola was created by Pharmacist Dr. John Styth Pemberton. He developed the formula for the famous soft drink in his backyard on May 8, 1886. Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson, came up with the idea for the unique cursive logo that has been the trade mark ever since. On May 29, 1886 the very first ad appeared in the Atlanta Journal: Coca–Cola. Delicious! Refreshing! Exhilarating! Invigorating! The New and Popular Soda Fountain Drink, containing the properties of the wonderful Coca plant and the famous Cola nuts. For sale by Willis Venable and Nunnally & Rawson. These ads helped people escape the realities of the depression and gave them hope that life would return to normal. Examples included a woman taking a break from gardening to refresh herself with a Coke, boys and girls in soda fountain ads and Artist Haddon Soundon's famous image of Santa Claus with a Coke on billboards. The people responded to these ads and Coca–Cola stayed profitable even during the depression. World War II had a major effect on Coca–Cola's advertising decisions in the next few years. Their war time policy was "We will see that every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca–Cola for five cents wherever he is and whatever it costs." The company wanted Coke to be a boost for morale and to promote patriotism. The ads replaced the boys and girls at the soda fountain with smiling soldiers. Another ad in 1943 urged people to buy war bonds and war stamps and still another showed two women allies enjoying the "pause that refreshes." Coca–Cola wanted to show that they were part of the American war effort. The famous red Coca–Cola disk gave the image of the American way of life before the war and during the war. Essay on A Brief History of America’s National Pastime An article in the Babe Ruth Central website tells the story which took place in game three of the World Series in Chicago's Wrigley Field. The New York Yankees were up two games to none on the Chicago Cubs. In the fifth inning, with the score tied four–four, many of the nearly 50,000 fans, and even players in the Chicago dugout, began taunting and heckling the batter. What happened next went down in baseball history as one of the most famous and controversial at–bats. The batter was none other than Babe Ruth, who, with two strikes and two balls, stepped out of the batters box and gestured toward the outfield as if to show where he was going to hit the ball. Ruth hits the next pitch over the wall in center field for a home run. Many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Terry Bluett in "Baseball and the Civil War" explains prior to the war, baseball was a game only played in the New York area. Those who played the game and went off to war began to teach their fellow soldiers how to play. Soldiers of all ranks participated in playing baseball in their camps and were even promoted by generals because it greatly improved the morale within the camps (Bluett). Another jump in popularity took place during World War II. Many players at the time went off to war, which may have contributed to the statistically lower level of play. However, President Roosevelt wanted the game to continue through the war to give the American people a constant in their everyday life. The 1945 season saw an all–time high attendance and was the last year of the war (Corso). In the subsequent 50 years, baseball has had a steady increase. The MLB has seen their gross income skyrocket recently earning $8 billion in 2013. A $6.6 billion increase from the 1995 season even though there has been a slight drop in kids and adults playing the sport in the last ten years. This data may show that baseball has lessened its popularity among the younger demographic, possibly because of their short attention spans (Bickley). Baseball's popularity in the future may be a topic for debate, but what is known for sure is that baseball has been a very popular sport in this country for the past 150 years and has been a large contributor to American culture. • 19. Baseball Operations For The Chicago Cubs There are an increasing number of people rising up and looking to revolutionize baseball as we know it. These people, called sabermatricians, come wielding spreadsheets and calculators as their weapons of choice. Innovators like them are beginning to view baseball through a different set of lenses than the rest. Others have looked through statistical glasses or scouting spectacles, but their vision has never been optimal. People like them have the correct lenses, but they have not been using the lenses in the proper context. Old–timey statistics are inputted to the sabes machine, and the new output is "quantified baseball players' performances based on objective statistical measurements, especially in opposition to many of the established statistics (such as, for example, runs batted in and pitching wins) that give less accurate approximations of individual efficacy" (Never, "Sabermetrics"). This revolution has given statistics a more clear meaning and true, measurable value for the first time. Scouting as well has been improved upon, as the five tools scouts grade on now have that measured value that scouts may refer to when making notes or personnel decisions. Statistics, specifically how they measure and control data, as well as help us learn from it, has and always will be a part of baseball ("What is statistics"). Stats are very, very useful for many purposes in the sport, and can help keep some analysis simplistic. Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947 and became the first African American major league baseball player of the modern era. Jackie Robinson spent one season with the Montreal Royals before called up to the big league club, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie's impact was felt immediately and he was one of the reasons why the Dodgers captured the pennant. He also won the Rookie of the Year award. Being the first player to break the color barrier came with many unfortunate consequences because the US wasn't ready for integration and Jim Crow laws were still firmly in effect. Jackie Robinson received death threats and had to endure racial slurs during every game. The hush of the crowd before the pitch allows the 1.4 kHz to echo through the stadium. This sound needs no onomatopoeia; we can all recall it from a memory at a baseball park or from any of the countless baseball movies ever produced. This classic sound has traveled through the years, from the beginnings of professional baseball to today. First called a national pastime in 1856, baseball has endured over two hundred and twenty years as a sport in America, almost as long as America has been America. It has been with us through revolutions, civil wars, world wars, and depressions. To quote Gerald Early in Ken Burns' documentary, Baseball, "There are only three things that America will be remembered for 2000 years from now when they study this civilization: The Constitution, Jazz music, and Baseball." The memories shared through generations of baseball can be pictured by many, the pickup game of all the neighborhood boys in the vacant lot down the street, the miraculous foul ball landing right in your lap, the classic summer day spent at the ballpark eating hotdogs and singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "Sweet Caroline." Basketball can be known as the best sport because it's played all over the world and tons of people like to play/watch it. For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch football every Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The great sport of baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called Cooperstown, New York. Many of you might know that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist destination. Once the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even some parts of the world. Now it's played in almost every single country in the entire world. It's crazy how a sport like baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports getting injured is always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common injuries that a player can get. Also in football, there's now a growing concern over CTE problems which is concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to retire for this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can almost guarantee a return at some point. This revenue amongst other things has made the United States into what appears to be the zenith of baseball; but Japan's national baseball league, the Nippon Baseball League is alive and well. According to WorldBaseballClassic.com, Japan's national team is ranked as the third best baseball team in the world, trailing only the powerhouses of the United States and Cuba. The team made the semi–finals in the last World Baseball Classic. Many would try to argue against this, but they will be wrong because in baseball it is the only sport where succeeding thirty percent of the time makes you a good player. Additionally, the batter only has four tenths of a second to decide if the ball will be a strike or not and figure out whether they want to swing at the pitch thrown. In baseball you can run out the clock and hold onto the ball, you have to give the other team a chance to score. • 53. The Importance Of Popular Religion Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert Ellwood, "Popular religion can be considered a sector–and a very important sector of popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons" (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them. The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago. Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion, individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a holiday at all. The parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago did that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Rhetorical Analysis Major League baseball players have an impact on the youth of today. They are role models, both good and bad, for young people who look up to them and want to be just like them. In the articles reviewed, there are examples of how baseball players have inspired people, showed and received respect for their actions, put their team before themselves, gave back through charities, and made mistakes but overcame them. In the article "Baseball has a rich history of big league role models", author Lyle Spencer uses several big name athletes and their experiences to show the impact that a professional athlete has on future athletes and the impressionable youth of today. The article points out that each player named in the article has played a role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not how much money they make or what team they play on, it is about the person that they are and what they represent as a person. What the person stands for and how they present themselves is what matters and what makes them a good role model. Baseball has had many great athletes throughout the years that fit that mold as great role models based on their actions and words. It is extremely important to remember, as stated in the article, "the respect you get is equal to the respect you give." (Spencer) The author is saying that you have to earn respect by giving respect. This article shows us how major league baseball players had role models in baseball that played in time periods before them. The article also shows that it takes a lot more than just a good player to be a great role model but a good person who put his team and others before himself. Derek Jeter may be the greatest example of this in the article "Trout said. "Everything I've heard about him is true. Great person, everything he does is the right thing. He's out there playing hard. He's great with the community. He's a great role model." (Spencer) Mike Trout who is maybe the best player right now and is slowly becoming a great role model tells us Derek Jeter is a great role model. Jeter was even impressed with Trout when the two played an all–star game together and it led to Jeter giving Trout's family his personal suite for a series where the two were playing against each other in the Bronx at Yankee ... As a Cuban born boy Brayan Pena dreamed about playing in the major leagues, but being from Cuba made getting to America just as hard as getting into the major leagues. In 1999, at age 16, Pena was playing for the Cuban National team when his friend approached him and told him of an opportunity for him to leave Cuba. Without notifying any family or friends, for fear of serious trouble, he left Cuba with no money and just the clothes on his back. Reading the Brayan Pena story had me thinking about life in Cuba and how scared Pena must have been leaving his family at 16 years old without saying goodbye and not knowing whether he would ever see them again. It also had me thinking about how worried his family must have been not knowing his whereabouts and whether or not he was safe. I admire him for the courage, determination, and bravery he exemplified when he left for America to seek his passion, his dream. With Cuba and the United States restoring full diplomatic ties on December 17, 2014 Brayan Pena finally had an opportunty to return home for the first time in 16 years. In honor of this decision I wanted to recognize some of his amazing achievements as a Yankee but also as a leader in the MLB. From an early age Derek Jeter was being scouted and projected to be a major league star. As a senior in high school, many professional teams including the Colorado Rockies scouted Jeter. A copy of the scouting report on Jeter says, "This guy is special. You get excited just watching him warm up. All– Star potential at MLB level." (Axisa, Mike, CBSSports.com). This was very high–level praise coming from an MLB scout when talking about a high school senior. Being as it may, Jeter was not drafted by the Rockies; the New York Yankees in the 1992 draft drafted him with the 6th overall pick. In his rookie year with the Yankees he won the AL Rookie of the Year award and the Yankees won their first world series in 18 years. This was the start of a very successful career for the Yankee great. Jeter has proven the scouting report to be truthful, becoming and MLB All–Star 13 times. He has been named All–Star game MVP once as well as American League MVP once, coincidently in the same year, 2000. Also, Jeter has won the Gold Glove 5 times and has won the American League Silver Slugger award 5 times. Soccer is loved by many people around the world because it gives them the action they want to see and the excitement they look for due to movement of the ball. While in Baseball, the ball just goes to another guys hand and has no excitement to it. In baseball you can use your hands to move around the ball, but in soccer you can only use your legs or any part of the body except your hands. Unless you are the goalie. You can do a lot of tricks with your feet, a lot of jukes and fakes. It makes the crowd go crazy when they see a player juke someone. Thats what the people/crowd want, excitement and something new, a little taste to the game. With baseball you can't really make any tricks with the ball while it's on your hand except to just throw it. The pitcher is the only one with real skills, because he decides the ball movement when he pitches.
