The World Is a Beautiful Place, B Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Lawrence Ferlinghetti wrote his poem, "The World Is a Beautiful Place...," in 1955. It was a time of war and suffering, especially due to the imminent
Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement beginning in 1955. In this poem, Lawrence Ferlinghetti reveals the world's disguised beauty with his
distinctive poetic patterns, rhythm, irony and unique style to illustrate the connotative perception of the world and how the world and life itself can
truly be beautiful no matter how long it takes for one to come to such conclusion. Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem, "The World Is a Beautiful Place...," is
written in a ping–pong pattern. To the reader's eyes, this poetic form can be confusing and stressful to interpret, or understand, the poet's ... Show more

Then, finally, the author depicts the bright side of our world, its revealed beauty after previous sufferings and lost dreams, as people begin "smelling
flowers" and "living it up."
Surprising and unexpectedly, Ferlinghetti stops the world's, and life's, beauty with the word "but." It seems as if in the midst of all happiness
there will always be a "but" that take a turn for our hopes and dreams. By reading through the lines, the reader will see that Ferlinghetti is not really
depicting the world's beauty, yet he is ironically depicting the search for its beauty. For most, the world's beauty is hidden, thus one may not
vision such a beautiful world through all its suffering, dying, and people starving. For some, it may take a lifetime to finally reveal our world's
beauty. However, Ferlinghetti uses irony by conveying that after the lifetime it would take to find our world's beauty and happiness, it would be
too late to enjoy it because we die, or are soon will die; this could be referenced to Carpe diem, since Ferlinghetti conveys the idea that one should
seize their prime and take advantage of this beautiful world that is available to us before our time is up. This would be compatible with the old
belief that those in their prime are the wise ones. People are not wise simply because they are old, it is because they have experienced the world and
life itself, and have acquired the valuable

Child Development Explanations And Understanding
Child development explanations and understanding is a complicated process and it is hard deciding the right process to use with each child. Many
individuals and doctors have their own way of thinking how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers and are mere
guesses of human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without looking at another idea also. To prove these explanations of
psychology, scientific methods are used. Teachers may use all patterns of ideas in their lesson planning for children.
Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the best interest of the child. They must also look at
what has been effective in their teaching in the past. If the idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed. Each
idea has their strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in psychology opinions of the ideas you must use the
common methods offered. It is hard for teachers to apply one idea to different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the exact same
way. For children to have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must not put all of them in the same box, this is to keep choice free in
life. To summarize it definitely helps when you understand the great philosophers and their processes.

Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory Of Moral Development
Introduction "The conscience of children is formed by the influences that surround them; their notions of good and evil are a result of the moral
atmosphere they breathe" Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg (the pioneer of the second major perspective on moral development) proposed that moral
reasoning is developed when people pass through three levels which comprise of two stages each as they grow older. He investigated the nature of
moral thought by interacting with children, presenting them with a story in which moral dilemmas were faced by the characters in the story. This is
what led to the birth of his theory of moral development. This essay therefore seeks to practically apply Kohlberg's thesis to the real world. In so
doing, it will review and evaluate the theory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kohlberg on Moral Development A professor at Harvard University developed a theory of moral development which incorporated the thinking of a
Swiss psychologist named Jean Piaget and an American philosopher named John Dewey (Barger, 2000). The professor went by the name Lawrence
Kohlberg. Kohlberg mainly used Piaget's theory of moral development as the foundation to develop these ideas further (Piaget, 1932). He
incorporated the method of telling a story that presents a dilemma that Piaget came up with, which would give people options for them to choose
what they would feel is 'right' choice (Kohlberg, 1958). Kohlberg (1984) presented the dilemmas as moral dilemmas, and the way an individual
reasoned the dilemma would determine the stage (with regards to moral development) in which he would classify them. Kohlberg used the reasons
that the individuals gave as a way to see how moral reasoning changed as people grow

Confessionalist Characteristics Of Allen Ginsberg And The...
During the 1950s, many different literary movements came to the spotlight. Two such movements were Confessionalism and Beat poetry. There are
many commonalities between these movements, and often, authors and works from the Beat movement incorporate various Confessionalist
characteristics. Allen Ginsberg, one such author, combined both Confessionalism and Beat poetry in a variety of his works, includingHowl and
Kaddish. The Confessionalist aspects of Allen Ginsberg and his works, such as Howl and Kaddish were heavily outweighed by the Beat aspects in his
work. The Beat poetry movement began in the 1950s due to the tense political climate and heavily conformative society. During this time, America
was a policing presence on the global platform. This presence led to involvement in a variety of international affairs, or more specifically, conflicts.
America had emerged victorious from World War II, and soon started a rivalry with the Soviet Union. This rivalry, better known as the Cold War, was
the leading cause for American involvement in international conflicts, such as the Korean War. This conflict also led to internal conflicts, such as
McCarthyism and a second Red Scare. These internal conflicts contributed to a conformative society, as anyone that rebelled against societal standards
was deemed a Communist. In fact, many Beat poets were accused of being Communists due to their expression of self in literature. Later, they were
titled "Beatniks" because of their supposed

To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Development Essay
Kohlberg's Moral development in Kill a Mockingbird Lawrence Kohlberg created critical culturally universal stages of moral growth which can be
used to explain the behavior of characters in to kill a Mockingbird book by Harper Lee. The book "Kill Mockingbird" tells a story of children
growing up stage by stage from a tender age and their lives changing so we can observe the moral development through various events. Kohlberg
believes that the morals of people develop at different levels starting from one to six levels. However, from the Kill a Mockingbird the moral
development is illustrated using three main characters Atticus, Scout and Jem Finch. Kohlberg's' moral development is divided into three stages;
pre–conventional, conventional, and post–conventional morality, which can be used to show the moral growth of the three characters from the book
Kill a Mockingbird (Barger 12). This essay, therefore, illustrate how Kohlberg's moral development stages are shown in the book "Kill a
Mockingbird's" characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is evident the two never show any tact in handling issues and were blunt in everything they do or handle. This was witnessed when they met Dill
for the first time in school. Scout treated Dill with equal measures in a show of respect and obedience, and she treats everybody equally, this clearly
shows Kohlberg's first stage of obedience and instrumentalism in handling issues. Mostly the two never meet many students at their age, and when
they met Dill, they did not show any tact in the kind of questions they were asking him about things such as his father and the rest. Scout sees other
people for the first time and treats them with respect and so lots of obedience. For instance, when Scout meets Dill she treats him a similar way as she

Cognitive Control And Social Control Essay
Adolescence is categorized by psychological changes in relation to identity, self–consciousness, and relationships with others (Sebastian, C., Burnett, &
Blakemore, S. J., 2008). There are two major aspects when it comes to adolescence: cognitive control and social control. The cognitive control focuses
more on supervisory functions such as our working memory, decision making, self–consciousness, and attention distribution; while, the social control
supports the individual being more sociable, forming more complex relationships and becoming more sensitive to acceptance and rejection by others
(Steinberg, L. & Morris, A. S., 2001). The adolescence period of development begins with the onset of physiologically normal puberty, and ends when
an adult identity and behavior are accepted. According to the World Health Organization (2006), this developmental period occurs roughly between the
ages of 10 and 19 years old. For my subject, I observed adolescent seventeen–year–old, Caucasian male, Dalton. Our interviews were conducted at a
local Starbucks, always under the permission of his fifty–one–year–old father, Thomas. I observed Dalton through a social and physical lens and related
the theories of Erik Erikson, Lev Vygotsky, Lawrence Kohlberg, andJean Piaget to better understand his standpoint in development.
According to the World Health Organization's 2006 child growth standards report, on average, a seventeen–year–old male is normally around 142.0
pounds and 69.0 inches tall,

Essay on My Lai Massacre
My Lai Massacre Soldiers are trained to always follow orders, and to never question orders. But that belief is somewhat illogical. Soldier's are to
obey any lawful order given. But the training involved, the often chaotic nature of battle, and the need to follow authority to maintain survival can
lead to a very blurred vision of what is right or wrong. One's animalistic instincts may take over. Sometimes there are such situations when you've
stepped over the line. Such as the horrendous act that took place on March 16, 1968 in the village of Son My. The Quang Ngai Province, more than
any other province in South Viet Nam, was suspected by the United States military officials as being a Viet Cong stronghold. Army intelligence

others. The soldiers of Charlie Company became demoralized as they lost nearly one–third of their troop in two months. Many in the company had
given in to an easy pattern of violence. Prisoners were systematically beaten, unarmed civilians sometimes murdered, whole villages burned, and
wells poisoned. Rapes were not uncommon. Many military leaders encouraged and rewarded kills in an effort to produce impressive body counts
that could be reported to Saigon as an indication of progress. On March 16, 1968. Charlie Company was ordered to enter the Hamlet of My Lai to
clear out the Viet Cong's forty–eighth battalion that was believed to be in the vicinity. The soldier's mission would be to engage the forty–eighth

would be out of the village heading for the local market by this time, leaving only the Viet Cong. The soldiers were ordered to explode brick homes,
set fires to thatch homes, shoot livestock, poison wells, and destroy the enemy. That plan was that Lieutenant Calley would come down from the

Allen Ginsberg, "Howl" Cultural Imapact Essay
Howl's Explicit Language and Revolution
"Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's
what the poet does." Allen Ginsberg believed this wholly and based his means of poetry by what he said in this sentence. One cannot censor thoughts,
just as one can't censor expression. Ginsberg faced controversy for sexual content and profanities that he used in his poetry, but those were merely his
private thoughts that he brought to the public. His poetry fueled a whole generational revolution in the 1950s. In times of cookie cutter uniformity Allen
Ginsberg went against norm and wrote explicit poetry for the sake of expressing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They pushed an open headedness to alternative sexualities and experimentation with drugs. This movement conflicted with the publicly accepted ideals
of the time period ("The Beat Generation"). These ideals of the beat generation that "Howl" stood for is a big reason why there was so much
controversy surrounding this poem. "Howl" was banned for obscenity because of its sexual and drug references, but without these references the voice
of a movement could not be heard (poets.org.)
The San Francisco Police Department deemed the poem "Howl" obscene due to the graphic sexual language the poem contained and arrested its
publisher, Lawrence Ferlinghetti on June 3, 1957("Howl on trial" pg. 2). The trial that proceeded was sure to change the tides of the literary world.
The ruling could change the ways of the Country, from prudery to expression sexual and other kinds. This was proven by the revolution in the sixties;
Ginsberg breathed the unspoken truth into American consciousness, when he spoke frankly in colloquiums in "Howl." October 3, 1957 "Judge Clayton
W. Horn not guilty of publishing and selling obscene writings, on the grounds that Howl and Other Poems was not written with lewd intent and was
not without 'redeeming social importance'("Howl on trial" pg.3.)" Judge Clayton said during the declaration of his decision that, "I do not believe that

I Am Sam:
A Psychological Film Analysis
The difficulties faced today in society by those with serious intellectual disabilities are very large hurdles faced by many in today 's world. These
disabilities along with the pressure to remain independent question how we deal with those intellectually challenged individuals. The film, I Am Sam
details the struggle of Sam Dawson– a man living with mild intellectual disabilities– and his fight to maintain custody of his young daughter. This film
details many different important psychological principles that are taught and studied in modern psychology. These principles are brought up and make
us question the validity and extent of principles that are held sacred in the psychological world today. The idea of having different parenting styles and
which way to parent children is the best is debated and questioned in the psychological community. Sam Dawson throughout the film is generally
lenient and uses no stern language or punishment on his daughter, Lucy. All this stays true until on scene, Sam decides to parent Lucy more sternly. In
this scene, Sam had just been told by school administrators that they were worried that Lucy would fall behind in school because her father– Sam–
could not teach her anything past his seven year old intelligence level. When Lucy tells him he cannot read a word and wants to go to sleep, he stops

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7). This week I attended my cousins wedding in Boston,
Massachusetts, during this time I was asked many questions along the lines of "What are you going to do in college?" "What are you studying?"
"Would you like some wine?" etc... At first it was really discouraging because I am only a freshman in highschool, I don't know what I'm doing, but
they want you to know. After answering all those questions (yes all of them, seriously) multiple times, I realized that i have grown and changed a lot
just in this past year. Then I remembered I had to write a paper about that. After talking with my parents about it, I categorized all my areas of growth

This is the most significant change I have seen in my life in this past year. I have to give a large majority of the credit for this to my Youth Leader,
Greg Pellegrino. He has helped me grow in Christ in so many ways and has been a huge source of encouragement and guidance in my spiritual life.
Before this year, I did not read the word daily, and I did not think about God half as often as a do now. I now read the bible and pray daily. I have also
done many "music cleanses" this year, in which I go through periods of time where I would listen to Christian music exclusively. It was very
refreshing and uplifting and it definitely made me more aware of my music and media choices and helped me make sure I was honoring the Lord in
every aspect of my life. I have never been so on fire for Jesus as I have been recently and in this past year, and I hope my faith only

Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership In The Honors College
Throughout this semester, I learned so much and gained so much confidence in my ability to lead. I had never led through the Honors College
before this semester nor had I ever felt so involved and included within the Honors College. Being an Honors Year One mentor has allowed me to
grow in ways that I would have never grown if it was not for this experience. Through my experience, I have made friends, realized what all the
Honors College has to offer and connect freshmen with others. I learned how I lead best, how to not always be the leader, what my strengths are and
how to use them to their full potential, and what needs to happen differently next semester in hopes to improve the experience for the freshmen.
I thought our mentor class was absolutely phenomenal. Tiffany continuously led us well and reigned us in well when we needed to get down to
business. Her leadership, council, and example made a difference for me when leading my freshmen. She was also very encouraging, which was
much needed. At the beginning, I was intimidated by Rebecca being in our class each week. However, the intimidation faded, and I quickly learned
to appreciate her. She had many great suggestions as well as a great insight. I may be an extrovert, but on the first day of our mentor class, I was
very intimidated and nervous. I had no earthly idea what to expect. However, as it is now the end of the semester, I am honestly sad the class had to
come to an end. I learned so much from the other

Moral Theory Of Lawrence Kohlberg
Lawrence Kohlberg was a theorist and a scholar of child growth. He focused on the ethical development of kids and how they mature the wisdom of
right, justice, and wrong. Kohlberg noted that teenagers underwent certain phases during moral growth. Through his observations, he developed a
theory that human beings develop from one phase to another through an invariant pattern, not missing any stage. His conclusions have been proven by
critical cultural studies conducted throughout the world. These phases were at levels known as pre–conventional, conventional and post–conventional
morality.
Level One: Pre–Conventional Morality
Stage One: Obedience and Punishment Orientation

They trust that individuals should obey the beliefs of the family and the society and act well at all times. Having good behavior typically means that a
person should have respectable reasons and good personal feelings such as trust (Kohlberg, 1971).
Stage Four: Maintaining the Social Order
At this phase, a person should reason when interacting with the family members and close friends. One should make an effort of understanding the
needs and wants of others and attempt to help. Respondents at this phase are more anxious with the whole society. They put more importance in
observing laws and carrying out duties that ensure social order is upheld (Kohlberg & Kramer, 1969). For example, individuals should reason on the
possible effects of breaking the law before doing so. For instance, it could probably lead to chaos rejecting the functioning of society.
Level Four: Post–conventional Morality
Stage Five: Social Contract and Individual Rights
At stage five, individuals aim at ensuring that the community keeps performing. Nevertheless, a society functioning smoothly is not essentially the best
because a society needs to be well structured. Stage five focuses on the components of a healthy society and those at this stage think of the community
in a theoretical way by considering the values and rights that the society ought to maintain (Kohlberg, 1971). Moreover, they trust that a healthy
community is a social pact in which all individuals

The Analysis of the Ending of the Grapes of Wrath
When you think of the word end you think of the end of a book or movie when the true definition is "a final part of something, esp. a period of time,
an activity, or a story" or "the furthest or most extreme part or point of something." Webster The ending of "The Grapes of Wrath" is just that the most
extreme. There are those who believe that the ending of this book is highly inappropriate and should be banned from schools for the content. However
those people are uneducated and cannot look beyond the words to see that the ending is seen as beautiful. The true meaning of the end is about new life,
second chances, and the innate kindness that lies within all people.
The ending is about new life because of Rose of Sharon's baby and what it truly meant to the Joad family. Throughout the entire novel you
experience Rose of Sharon pregnancy and her struggle to sustain both herself and a child. Generally babies represent new life, a fresh start, exactly
what the Joad family was looking for from the start of the novel. Unfortunately the baby does not make it, this is very sad, but also a sigh of relief
for the family. If the baby would have survived then that meant one more mouth to feed. Fortunately she still had her breast milk and used it to help
another life, "Says he wasn't hungry, or he jus' et. Give me the food. Now he's too weak. Can'thardly move." The ending may be morbid and bleak but

Essay about Influential Poets of the Beat Generation
The Beat Generation of poets was created by a group of poets in the 1950s that were part of a new culture in literature. They chose to use their
experiences in their writings which were widely criticized as well as loved by many readers. Two of the most influential Beat Poets of that Generation
of writers were Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The Beat Generation poetry was the first poets to write about non–conventional subjects as
well as using different forms of expression in their works. This generation of poets greatly influenced poets such as Anne Sexton, who wrote about
personal experiences as well. The Beat Generation's style of poetry have influenced many generations of poets after them.

The Beat Generation is characterized as a group of poets after World War II, they are widely known and recognized for their works because it is not

sexuality, religion centering on the Eastern World, rejection of materialism and freedom of expression. The members of this movement were known as
non–conformists and were spontaneously creative in their writings. Thomas Merrill states that the influence of drugs in the movement was:
The incessant search for reality within (through drugs, meditation and intense feeling) was a quest for authenticity that reason, it was felt, deadened. It
called for the reconnaissance at the extremes of human experience, as far beyond the limits of reason as possible, thus placing uncommon stress upon
subjunctive moods. (Merrill, 2) Influences of the Beat Movement can be noted in the next phase of American History: Hippie counter–culture of the
1960s. The Beat Generation was an important political catalyst for those minorities that had no voice. The "beatniks" of the movement were seen as a
threat by those Americans that lived in the typical suburbs of American who tried to raise their children in morally upright ways (Silesky, 81). Two of

The Harlem Renaissance In The 1950's
With the end of slavery came new freedoms for the African American and African American communities but freedom also came with new challenges.
During this time, segregation laws were in place limiting African Americans and portraying them as second class citizens. In the 1920's, the idea of a
new identity for the African American, one that was equal to the white majority, would take root and the Harlem Renaissance would begin in New
York. Although there were numerous artists who participated in the movement, poets Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, and Countee Cullen are
amongst some of the most prominent figures whom represent the Harlem Renaissance. In the 1950's, with the end of World War II, came a new group
of poets and artists who voiced their criticism on a wide variety of social issues creating the Beat Movement, or Beat Generation. Allen Ginsburg,
Gregory Corso, and Diane di Prima are a few of the many artists who participated in the Beat Movement calling for a spread of awareness and societal
change. For these poets, it seemed as though no topic was too taboo such as capitalism, war, American Culture, the use of religion, consumerism, and
environmental issues. While both were influential movements in American history, the Harlem Renaissance was a movement which sought to unify
African American communities by encouraging the adoption of a new image whereas the Beat Movement used individual expression to promote

Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl'
The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male authors including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored
American culture in their poems. The Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and patriarchal due to their exclusion of women and
concerns confined to only male outcasts. In Allen Ginsberg's 1956 "Howl", he brings his audience's attention to male outcasts in society. In her 2015
"Howl", a critical response to Ginsberg's "Howl", Amy Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male–dominated culture through
the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg's original stanza form, and utilizing diction to convey a woman's perspective antithetically to Allen
Ginsberg's original.
In Amy Newman's "Howl", she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who is acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the
poetry world due to her oppressive marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, "[a] star–spangled lost in her housebound Eden curse with orchards and a
million gossipy daffodils, writing and nursing and not on the lists..." (Newman). In Allen Ginsberg's original "Howl" he adverts to male poets he
admires of his time, opposingly Newman emulates Ginsberg's technique and alludes to a feminist iconic poet Sylvia Plath. Newman implements a
biblical allusion referencing The Garden of Eden to depict Plath as a successful female poet who was metaphorically locked in her household; where a

Analysis Of The Poem Dog By Lawrence Ferlinghetti
There are many literary devices in the poem Dog by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which can be found in Ann Charters' The Portable Beat Reader. In this
particular poem, the use of symbolism is heavily embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not give the
reader a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and dissecting each stanza, it would not seem to be just a group of
random words stitched together, but rather a poem about Lawrence Ferlinghetti's assessment of the modern world. As the supposed dog wanders freely
and explores the world around him, the symbolic images that the dog experiences along his journey truly gives an in depth view of the term "Beat"
from the emerging "Beat Generation" of the 1950s.
Qualities of the post–World War II Beat culture include obscene and defiant behaviors in addition to an environment paved with drugs and poverty.
One of the stories that best portrays the central elements of the Beat culture is the story of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty in On the Road by Jack
Kerouac. In fact, Jack Kerouac is the writer who was the first to coin the term "Beat Generation." In the story, Sal Paradise meets a highly
experimental and charismatic man dubbed Dean Moriarty. The story follows them as they travel from corner to corner of the country searching for
meaning, all while facing adversities such as confusion, depression, drugs, alcohol, and overall abandonment. Since these qualities are a

The House Of The Seven Gabless Analysis
– Salem State University professor, Aviva Chomsky, spoke at the House of the Seven Gables, on Thursday Sept. 14, about the 1933 Pequot Mills
Strike, and its connection to modern labor issues facing the U.S. today. The House of the Seven Gables welcomed back Chomsky, as a guest
speaker, for the final presentation of their ongoing speaker series, "Life and Labor over Four Centuries at the House of the Seven Gables." Ana
Nuncio, Settlement Programs Manager at the House of Seven Gables said, "The Gables is proud to include professor Avi Chomsky in its roster of
speakers this year," and that "Chomsky is an engaging speaker with much to say on topics that are relevant to our Salem community, such as labor
issues and immigrant rights."
Chomsky's talk on the 1933 Pequot mills strike, now the site of Shetland Park, chronicled the issues faced by the mostly immigrant workers, of
automation, productivity, unemployment, and wage disparity that still face the workers of today.
The workers of the Pequot mills were Irish, French Canadian, and Polish immigrants that resided mostly in the Point Neighborhood of Salem. These
immigrant workers were prompted to strike due to issues of unemployment and forced increased productivity caused by new innovations in loom
technology.
Chomsky described how, "One mill worker could now run 1,000 looms instead of just one, leaving 999 mill workers unemployed." With communist
party influence, and concern for the working class, the mill workers struck in 1933. This strike influenced all of Salem as almost half of all residents
were employed by the Pequot mills. The mill workers met to discuss the strike at the Saltonstall school, and marched down Lafayette Street in protest
of the unfair labor conditions and wages.
Chomsky highlighted the solidary of the mill workers by showing a document created by the strikers that said, "If we lose this strike, all textile
workers will be effected." Chomsky pointed out that even then people were thinking about the global influence of workers' rights.
The Pequot mills strike, were finally resolved when President Roosevelt sent mediators to reach a consensus between the striking workers, and the
employers. "The Pequot mills strike and the worker's

text. Carver's lack of detail lures the reader into asking questions that can never be answered, such as who was the killer? Why did Stuart go far away
to fish? The lack of of detail tempting the reader to ask questions plus the disconnection of Claire's emotions allows the story to build suspense as well
as have a unique disjointed atmosphere to the story.

Erikson's Stages Of Development
Adolescent Development The age of adolescents is generally a time of great change within a person's life. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen,
adolescents do not only experience rapid physical change, but also begin to find their own unique personality by completing cognitive, behavioral,
moral and social stages. These stages were defined by different theorists such as Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg. After completing
these stages an adolescent should be able to develop into a healthy and happy adult who can think abstractly and has their own set of morals and
identity (Berk, 2014, pg. 402).

level individuals reason through their morals based upon consequences that will come after. The conventional level describes how individuals at this
stage conform to agreed upon morals and rules to keep the order rather than avoiding punishment. The last and most advanced stage is the
postconventional stage which entails individuals who move beyond agreed upon rules and morals and actually question established beliefs and
principles (Berk, 2014, p.g. 408). As for Ronald, his moral level changes throughout the film. In the beginning when trying to gain popularity he is in
the conventional level because he hopes to solve his dilemma of wanting to gain popularity by keeping everything in his school's culture and
principles intact. When Ronald was trying to keep his deal with Cindy a secret and also fit in, he was perpetuating the current social system. When
Ronald finally had his realization that cliques are not important and all that really mattered was who you are he tore down social barriers and laws
and began to apply his new and abstract morals to

Theory Of Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, And Lawrence Kohlberg
Customized Learning Theory Learning has been studied by numerous psychologist and theories over the years by men and women around the world
such as Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Lawrence Kohlberg. These theorists and psychologists studied ways to improve teaching and motivating
children in learning. The study on how children are learning is important for both the teacher and the student. "You shall teach them diligently to your
children, and shall talk to them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise" (Deuteronomy
6:7, English Standard Version, 2017). Teaching the children is the responsibility as a Christian. As the time passes, it appears that these theories and
approaches to learning are revolutionized as well. The Bible is the most consistent guidance in learning theory that never appears to change.
Learning Theory and Its Importance Children that knows his or her assignment are more likely to develop assurance in himself or herself which leads
to being more inclined to continuing his or her involvement in learning. "The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what
is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints" (American King James Version, 2017). Children continually

Anthropomorphism And Early Learning About Animals Essay
(Un)Real Animals: Anthropomorphism and Early Learning about Animals 1.What are the most important points of this article? The purpose of this
paper is to explain anthropomorphism and its effect on children's early learning about animals. The term anthropomorphism gives life–like or human
characteristics to those who are not human such as an animal or an object. The author's writing will inform those who are concerned about this current
dilemma and their effects on the children's early learning about animals as well as provide us with our next steps to ensure academic success for our
youth. The proper development of these early young minds is the main purpose of this research and article. Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on
the child's developing mind. Between the ages of three and five years old, children become exposed to anthromorphic depictions when beginning to
learn about real–life animals. This skewed view of the natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children become confused
when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are not really present. Throughout the article the author discuses different cross–cultural
and experimental studies to show the different ways that children responded to various representations of animals. For example, a child that has a pet at
home may be more likely to tell the difference between anthromorphism and real–life animals as opposed to a child who does not have a pet. Other

Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis
In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing social consciousness and defying conventional
writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets,
known for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and experimental drug use, caused a lot of controversy. In
Ginsberg's Howl and Other Poems, Ginsberg employs a particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative, nuclear
driven society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and individuals whose ideology does not agree with that of the rest of
the nation. Ginsberg believes that American society remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg, along with the other
poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as heterosexual as well as homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their
writings. Ginsberg became one of the most influential poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the idea of breaking the
mold of the idealistic nuclear American society.
Bond 2
At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at home wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread
idealistic way of life followed by the mass mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of the
American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the privilege of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this
concept of the idealistic "American Dream" proceeds to do nothing but harm minorities much like himself. Ginsberg "saw the best minds of [his]
generation destroyed by madness... demanding instantaneous lobotomy..."(1–69). The harmful and destructive ideology of the great American dream
remains engraved in our society dating all the way back to The Bill of Rights, 1789, " No person shall be... deprived of life, liberty, or property" and
Allen Ginsberg strived to dismantle this falsely constructed ideology. Ginsberg uses his sexaulity as a prime

The Theory Of Moral Development
In every aspect of a person's life, we are likely to experience some form of ethical dilemma that challenges us morally. A popular psychologist known
as Lawrence Kohlberg suggests that there are 3–levels of Moral Development, as well as 6–stages within Moral Development. The 3–levels include
pre–conventional morality, conventional morality, and post conventional morality. The 6–stages include obedience and punishment orientation,
individualism and exchange, good interpersonal relationships, maintaining social order, social contract and individual rights, and universal principles
(McLleod, 2011). This paper will discuss all 3–levels of moral development and where my ethical reasoning rests, past moral dilemmas I have

The second level of moral development is Conventional Morality. This level includes adolescents and adults. At this level, we start to adopt the
standards that are valued by the authority figures or role models that are in our lives. We begin to reason based on the values and morals that the group
we belong to adopts. The stages within this level include Good Interpersonal Relationships– The individual is behaves in a manner that is perceived as
good so that their peers will see them as good as well, therefore, this stage is all about seeking approval from peers, and Maintaining Social Order– The
individual is more aware of the rules set into place by society, so they begin to behave in a way that is acceptable to society in order to avoid breaking
the law (McLeod, 2011). The third level of moral development is Post–Conventional Morality. At this point in a persons life, the morals, beliefs, and
values that we possess are self–chosen. Kohlberg believed that this is where most people end up. There are two additional stages within the level,
which are Social Contract and Individual Rights– individual acknowledges that there are rules in place, but sometimes those rules are not in our best
interest, and Universal Principles– individuals possess their own moral guidelines, regardless if they fit the rules in place by society. The individual at
this level is willing to fight for their rights

Openness: Destroying Society’s Moloch Essay
Good art never dies, but rather lingers on in the minds of the society. Allan Ginsberg's poem "Howl" has relevance many years after it was written.
"Howl" is a poem, and a story about the history of the beat generation, and the philosophies of the beat poets. At the time that Howl was written
America was in the middle of the cold war, and conservatism was the norm. The shocking nature and vulgar language of "Howl" makes the poem
unique during a time when having hair your hair long, or even having a beard was risquГ©. Allan Ginsberg makes the reader think about their freedom
and expression during the time when even the society is against them. By using his obscene, even by today's standards, words he startles the read and

Schumacher later writes about how Ginsberg dealt with his sexuality: "Ginsberg made a halfhearted attempt a living a 'normal' life, taking up with
a girlfriend and working a job, with predictable results. He was encouraged by a psychiatrist to drop the job and live an openly gay lifestyle if that
would ease his mind" (102). The point to take away from this is that Alan Ginsberg felt the need to attempt to change his personality to appease
society. Society was such that one could not be an openly gay person, and if one was they were to be shunned. The men that attracted Ginsberg's
attention were another problem for him as many of them were mostly heterosexual (99). When one cannot freely confess part of their life the result
never comes out well. Ginsberg's psychiatrist saw the result of the attempted change, and that the best decision was to come free and live the way that
Ginsberg truly was. Ginsberg shows this openness in "Howl" and praises this throughout the poem. The article concludes with the reasons why and how
Alan Ginsberg wrote "Howl":
"Since he had no intention of ever publishing the work–––it was too personal, as well as being far too sexually explicit for the times–he improvised as
he went along,

Theories Of Learning : Constructivism And Social...
This essay will analyse three main theories of learning: behaviourism, constructivism and social constructivism. Each theory varies in its approach to
teaching as each has its own definition of learning but all have strong implications for teaching practice. As every pupil has different needs and
different ways of learning, no one theory is useful for all children therefore I will be examining both the benefits and limitations of each. I will
discuss the implications of each theory on classroom practice, including how each theory influences different strategies and approaches to teaching
such as inclusion, observation and play. A degree personal experience will help me to reflect upon both theories and legislation as well as the
difficulties those who work in the classroom face with inclusive practice with the constraints of the national curriculum and systems of assessment.
Burrhus Skinner is one of the best known behaviourist theorists. He applied ideas taken from his works with rats and pigeons to children.
Behaviourists define learning as something that "people do in response to external stimuli". (Muijs and Reynolds, 2005, p21) Skinner argued that
changes in the behaviour of children are as a result of their response to events (stimuli) that have happened to them. This process is known as operant
conditioning which suggests that if a response to stimuli is followed with a reward or encouragement, this response is likely to occur again. This then
leads to the idea

Lawrence Ferlinghetti Materialism
Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the founder of City Lights Bookstore, has created many works in both literature and art that portrays the ideals of the Beat
Generation. His poem "The World is a Beautiful Place," is a sarcastically ironic poem about a narrator who says "the world is beautiful place;" yet he
lists the negative aspects of society due to materialism. At the time the core beliefs of society were that of post World War II non
–conformist beliefs
and can are clearly depicted in Ferlinghetti's work.
Ferlinghetti was born in Yonkers, New York on March 29, 1919. At an early age Ferlinghetti was already succumbed to tragedies including the death
of his father and the commitment of his mother into a mental institution. He lived with his aunt in Long Island, New York for a good portion of his life

after attaining his degrees, Ferlinghetti and his friend, Peter Martin, opened City Lights Bookstore which would become known as the heart of the
"Beat" movement. Today he can occasionally be spotted in City Lights Bookstore but he spends most of his time writing weekly columns for the San
Francisco Chronicle and painting pictures depicting the corruption of society due to materialism.
Although the title "The World is a Beautiful Place" may invoke a sense of pride towards the world, Ferlinghetti twists the idea of it being a "beautiful
world" and states all the negative aspects of society along with some pleasant aspects which can be utilized to paint a picture of the world for what it

Ability of Children to
Identify Bad Choices and Justifications
Kent S. Michael
The University of Alabama
Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013) outlining the development and testing of an
intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research
participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to note that an analogous pattern was found in a
previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in their last year of dental school (Bebeau & Thoma, 1999). To the author's knowledge, a similar
study has not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess whether children aged 9–11 also
struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications.
Literature Review
Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is necessary to understand the significance and need
for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of
moral reasoning–heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget's concrete operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent
upon the relational context of the child and authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. The latter is

Analysis Of The Poem ' Howl '
Historic Analysis of '' Howl '' ''Howl'' was a poem written by Allen Ginsberg in 1956. For us to understand the poem it is necessary for us to
understand the history behind the poem. '' Howl '' was published in 1956, right after the devastating World War II. After WWII that's when the
American dream was in full force throughout the whole world. Many Immigrants were trying to migrate to the US at that time for a better living. At
the same time media was becoming big and powerful gaining trust from citizens while television was on its peak being the most important part of the
media growth as it exported an immense number news to consumers. While Americans were busy with the new experience of having, news transmitted
to them on the comfort of their houses, others worked hard to get a movement started, from the streets, to the bars at night. A group of poets would
gather together to express their arts of literature written by them. Ginsberg's '' Howl '' was Beat generation's first heartbeat, as the poem was first
performed at Six Gallery in San Francisco in 1955 it was the moment when Beat generation was built. As the poem was published in 1955 with the
City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, the poem was considered one of the best American poem to be performed. The members of that movement
were professional writers although ''Howl'' was the first foremost Beat generation work to be printed. The beat generation style of writing was

If a child is born with cataracts and they are removed before the age of seven, that child's vision will develop normally. If these cataracts are not
removed then they can create extensive damage to their vision for the rest of their life. A sensitive period is a period in a child's development that is
very important for particular kinds of development.
If a certain behavior is not learned during this "sensitive time" it just may not develop to its full potential. For example, if a child is not exposed to
language before the age of seven, he or she may fail to acquire it all together. These "preschool years" are significant in a child's intellectual
development. There are many Psychologists with different views and theories about this subject, but I will only talk about the view of one. This
theory of the development of a child is outlined by a Swiss Psychologist by the name of Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget was known to be one on the century's
most influential thinkers. Piaget thought of children as mini scientists who conduct experiments on the world just to see what will happen. He

years of a child's life is the sensorimotor stage.

Analysis Of Disney Company 's Recreation Of Public Domain...
Once upon a time there were gripping tales shared between generation to generation and continuously passed down. The listener 's focus was on the
story's message and not its possible profit allowed those listeners to live happily ever after. Storytelling began long ago traditionally told orally before
there was a shift to written stories and eventually as technology developed became a digital market. Some of the most famous digitalized tales are fairy
tales. Previous to digital development, copyright laws on fairy tales were slim because there was less concern over copying. This is also how the story's
focus was more on the message and its creative development than the potential profit. The Walt Disney company's recreation of public domain fairy
tales demonstraights how copyright laws have hindered artistic creativitity within America.
The Walt Disney company, is a beloved as well as infamous company worldwide also notoriously known for their strict copyright laws. Original
American copyright laws stated artistic works were protected for 28 years and these laws were eventfully extended to a 56–year time frame. The term
continues to increase with the present law set at 75 years. Large companies like Disney continue to fight for stricter and longer laws because of the
revenue they will continue to bring it. (Washington post). One apparent problem from the extensions is public lacks the ability to build on Disney

What Is Erikson's Theory Of Spiritual Formation
SPIRITUAL FORMATION THROUGHOUT THE LIFESPAN

LIBERTY UNIVERSITY ONLINE
Abstract
In this research paper, I will try to illustrate my hypothesis of spiritual formation throughout the lifespan by using my interpretation of a collection of
theories. The theories I will refer to include Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory, Erikson's Psychosocial Theory, and Kohlberg's Development of
Moral Reasoning Theory. In Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development, he develops a theory of cognitive development that occurs in stages from
persons under two years of age through age 14. Piaget's theory relates to the cognitive development of a human person. In Erik Erickson's Theory of
Psychosocial Development, Erikson describes a theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* * Erik Erickson's theory uses distinct critical crises that occur in one's life that require an "ah hah" moment which leads to maturity. It is with this
model I will now illustrate another perspective on spiritual formation through the life cycle. Erikson puts a clear emphasis on society's role in the
development of n individual. Erikson advises that crises are never completely resolved and can re–emerge later in life, if left unresolve. I think that
throughout ones spiritual journey we all have different things that we question, learn, discover and each of these changes in thinking all come from a
moment that you decided that is your belief spiritually. Modeling Erikson's stages of psychosocial development, the first stage is basic trust vs.
mistrust. A spiritual leader, a church family, a version of your bible; these things are all things that you rely on to get to know your higher power. These
things should align in most basic beliefs but when they contradict one another, a seeker of truth must ask himself– "What do I believe?" In the next
stage of development, autonomy vs. shame are a crisis that occur when the thinking becomes strong and confident when the spiritual journey is
welcoming, joyful and environmentally sound. In cases * If a believer is surrounded with unstable fellowship, "lost in the crowd" churches and too
many questions within, the seeker can

The reader first meets with Soraya in chapter 11, when she is working at a flea market. Her obedience to her father – General Taheri – can be referred

Here, Soraya wears traditional Afghan dress and follows the rules accordingly. She sees this as more than simple deal, since marriage in Afghanistan is
an important event. Her "good behaviour" is visible during the time she spends with Amir's father when he lies in bed, sick:
"Soraya dedicated herself to taking care of my father. She made his toast and tea in the morning, and helped him in and out of bed. She gave him his
pain pills, washed his clothes, read him the international section of the newspaper every afternoon, She cooked his favourite dish, potato shorwa,
though he could scarcely eat more than a few spoonfuls, and took him out every day for a brief walk around the block. And when he became

Soraya takes care of Amir's father, even though no one asked her to do this. According to Kohlberg, person at this stage has good motives and
interpersonal feelings, such as love, trust, empathy and concern for others, which is exactly what Soraya shows in this passage. Another time when this
level is evident is when Soraya tells Amir how she taught an illiterate woman how to read and write:

Theme Of Justine
Written in retrospect, Justine is an attempt on part of Darley, the narrator, to be reconciled with Alexandria, the city that transfigured his life. During
his stay in Alexandria, Darley is constantly torn between his love for Melissa and Justine. He associates his love for the two women with the kinds
of perfumes they wear, particularly that of Justine, which Darley searches for in a moment of yearning to be with her. This urgent search for Justine's
perfume parallels Darley's endeavor to find the true essence of the city. However, the perfume's name, Jamais de la vie, foreshadows his inability to

In Part One, he finds "a small empty scent–bottle of the cheap kind that Melissa used" (25), which he "took ... back to the flat where it stayed on the

her simple–mindedness, in addition to her physical and mental frailty. Furthermore, Darley examines the empty bottle while "measuring [the old
furrier's] love against [his] own; and tasting too, vicariously, the desperation which makes one clutch at some small discarded object which is still
impregnated with the betrayer's memory" (26). This remark of "desperation" is ironical, for Darley himself will be put in the same position when he
later desperately sets out to find Justine's perfume, who is also a betrayer. Justine's perfume, however, bewilders Darley. The fact that Darley does not
easily recognize the kind of perfume Justine wears sheds light on Justine's complex character and the struggle to understand the enigma of her
personality. Darley describes the first whiff he gets of Justine's perfume as, "the warm summer perfume of her dress and skin" (26, 27). This loving
description comes in opposition to that of Melissa's "scent–bottle", which Darley does not admire but merely "studies". This contrast foregrounds the

How to Not Follow Copyright Law:
An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture
As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. Our culture has more ways than ever to publish and distribute the
things we make, and with the rise of the internet we can reach any audience with a Wi–Fi connection. This digital hyper–connectivity has led many
artists to create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures. One of these cultures that has become a significant part of
online media is Remix Culture. The idea of taking someone else's art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and detested by
others. As this genre of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and isn't a remix has drastically blurred. Some will spend hours upon
hours making a song sound completely different from its original counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it their own. Though laws
were once effective when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art has grown has significantly surpassed the rate at which these laws have
changed. People are beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways, creating much controversy surrounding who should be getting paid, or if
anyone should get paid at all. As artists, it is important to know what these laws are exactly, so we can either abide by them or find our own
workarounds. As soon as a work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is

Lawrence Ferlinghetti is often regarded as one of the most influential American poets of the 20th century, and his writing covers a wide range of
social topics regarding the status of American culture during the 1950s and 60s. Many of Ferlinghetti's works focus on his vision of America and how
that vision had not come to fruition because of the less than ideal situations surrounding American culture at the time. Consequently, Ferlinghetti was
also an avid member of the Beat generation and used his ability to write as a platform for spreading the message of the Beatniks. As we have

In his poem, "Sometime During Eternity...", he criticizes the way Americans viewJesus Christ and questions the dogma attached to traditional
Christian beliefs. Ferlinghetti discusses how the American people like to treat Jesus as if he is some sort of high end celebrity, referring to him as
"hip" and "cat" (15), names which are usually associated with jazz musicians. However, despite the adoration the American people use when talking
about Jesus, Ferlinghetti states that we later "... Stretch him on the Tree to cool/ And everybody after that/ is always making models/ of this tree/ with
Him hung up/ and always crooning His name" (15–16). This quote shows that the American people are often able to speak romantically of Jesus and
adore Him with their words, but come up short with their actions, as they put Him on the Cross by denying their faith in Him. As we have
discussed in class, this is a reference to the biblical figure, Peter, who denied Jesus three times just before the crucifixion of Jesus. Ferlinghetti is
writing this piece to show that the American people have turned into Peter, as we want ourselves and others to believe that we are devout believers
in Christ, but our faith crumbles and our knowledge of Christ crumbles at the slightest provocation. Also, as we have discussed in class, the poem is
unorganized and does not seem to have a consistent pattern or verse, as well as many references to jazz. This is because the poem is meant to have a

The World Is A Beautiful Place, B Lawrence Ferlinghetti

  • 1. The World Is a Beautiful Place, B Lawrence Ferlinghetti Lawrence Ferlinghetti wrote his poem, "The World Is a Beautiful Place...," in 1955. It was a time of war and suffering, especially due to the imminent Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement beginning in 1955. In this poem, Lawrence Ferlinghetti reveals the world's disguised beauty with his distinctive poetic patterns, rhythm, irony and unique style to illustrate the connotative perception of the world and how the world and life itself can truly be beautiful no matter how long it takes for one to come to such conclusion. Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem, "The World Is a Beautiful Place...," is written in a ping–pong pattern. To the reader's eyes, this poetic form can be confusing and stressful to interpret, or understand, the poet's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, finally, the author depicts the bright side of our world, its revealed beauty after previous sufferings and lost dreams, as people begin "smelling flowers" and "living it up." Surprising and unexpectedly, Ferlinghetti stops the world's, and life's, beauty with the word "but." It seems as if in the midst of all happiness there will always be a "but" that take a turn for our hopes and dreams. By reading through the lines, the reader will see that Ferlinghetti is not really depicting the world's beauty, yet he is ironically depicting the search for its beauty. For most, the world's beauty is hidden, thus one may not vision such a beautiful world through all its suffering, dying, and people starving. For some, it may take a lifetime to finally reveal our world's beauty. However, Ferlinghetti uses irony by conveying that after the lifetime it would take to find our world's beauty and happiness, it would be too late to enjoy it because we die, or are soon will die; this could be referenced to Carpe diem, since Ferlinghetti conveys the idea that one should seize their prime and take advantage of this beautiful world that is available to us before our time is up. This would be compatible with the old belief that those in their prime are the wise ones. People are not wise simply because they are old, it is because they have experienced the world and life itself, and have acquired the valuable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Child Development Explanations And Understanding Child development explanations and understanding is a complicated process and it is hard deciding the right process to use with each child. Many individuals and doctors have their own way of thinking how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers and are mere guesses of human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without looking at another idea also. To prove these explanations of psychology, scientific methods are used. Teachers may use all patterns of ideas in their lesson planning for children. Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the best interest of the child. They must also look at what has been effective in their teaching in the past. If the idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed. Each idea has their strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in psychology opinions of the ideas you must use the common methods offered. It is hard for teachers to apply one idea to different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the exact same way. For children to have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must not put all of them in the same box, this is to keep choice free in life. To summarize it definitely helps when you understand the great philosophers and their processes. Theorist Jean Piaget, believed that individuals add and change their points of view of ... • 3. Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory Of Moral Development Introduction "The conscience of children is formed by the influences that surround them; their notions of good and evil are a result of the moral atmosphere they breathe" Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg (the pioneer of the second major perspective on moral development) proposed that moral reasoning is developed when people pass through three levels which comprise of two stages each as they grow older. He investigated the nature of moral thought by interacting with children, presenting them with a story in which moral dilemmas were faced by the characters in the story. This is what led to the birth of his theory of moral development. This essay therefore seeks to practically apply Kohlberg's thesis to the real world. In so doing, it will review and evaluate the theory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kohlberg on Moral Development A professor at Harvard University developed a theory of moral development which incorporated the thinking of a Swiss psychologist named Jean Piaget and an American philosopher named John Dewey (Barger, 2000). The professor went by the name Lawrence Kohlberg. Kohlberg mainly used Piaget's theory of moral development as the foundation to develop these ideas further (Piaget, 1932). He incorporated the method of telling a story that presents a dilemma that Piaget came up with, which would give people options for them to choose what they would feel is 'right' choice (Kohlberg, 1958). Kohlberg (1984) presented the dilemmas as moral dilemmas, and the way an individual reasoned the dilemma would determine the stage (with regards to moral development) in which he would classify them. Kohlberg used the reasons that the individuals gave as a way to see how moral reasoning changed as people grow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Confessionalist Characteristics Of Allen Ginsberg And The... During the 1950s, many different literary movements came to the spotlight. Two such movements were Confessionalism and Beat poetry. There are many commonalities between these movements, and often, authors and works from the Beat movement incorporate various Confessionalist characteristics. Allen Ginsberg, one such author, combined both Confessionalism and Beat poetry in a variety of his works, includingHowl and Kaddish. The Confessionalist aspects of Allen Ginsberg and his works, such as Howl and Kaddish were heavily outweighed by the Beat aspects in his work. The Beat poetry movement began in the 1950s due to the tense political climate and heavily conformative society. During this time, America was a policing presence on the global platform. This presence led to involvement in a variety of international affairs, or more specifically, conflicts. America had emerged victorious from World War II, and soon started a rivalry with the Soviet Union. This rivalry, better known as the Cold War, was the leading cause for American involvement in international conflicts, such as the Korean War. This conflict also led to internal conflicts, such as McCarthyism and a second Red Scare. These internal conflicts contributed to a conformative society, as anyone that rebelled against societal standards was deemed a Communist. In fact, many Beat poets were accused of being Communists due to their expression of self in literature. Later, they were titled "Beatniks" because of their supposed ... • 5. To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Development Essay Kohlberg's Moral development in Kill a Mockingbird Lawrence Kohlberg created critical culturally universal stages of moral growth which can be used to explain the behavior of characters in to kill a Mockingbird book by Harper Lee. The book "Kill Mockingbird" tells a story of children growing up stage by stage from a tender age and their lives changing so we can observe the moral development through various events. Kohlberg believes that the morals of people develop at different levels starting from one to six levels. However, from the Kill a Mockingbird the moral development is illustrated using three main characters Atticus, Scout and Jem Finch. Kohlberg's' moral development is divided into three stages; pre–conventional, conventional, and post–conventional morality, which can be used to show the moral growth of the three characters from the book Kill a Mockingbird (Barger 12). This essay, therefore, illustrate how Kohlberg's moral development stages are shown in the book "Kill a Mockingbird's" characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is evident the two never show any tact in handling issues and were blunt in everything they do or handle. This was witnessed when they met Dill for the first time in school. Scout treated Dill with equal measures in a show of respect and obedience, and she treats everybody equally, this clearly shows Kohlberg's first stage of obedience and instrumentalism in handling issues. Mostly the two never meet many students at their age, and when they met Dill, they did not show any tact in the kind of questions they were asking him about things such as his father and the rest. Scout sees other people for the first time and treats them with respect and so lots of obedience. For instance, when Scout meets Dill she treats him a similar way as she would treat any other ... • 6. Cognitive Control And Social Control Essay Adolescence is categorized by psychological changes in relation to identity, self–consciousness, and relationships with others (Sebastian, C., Burnett, & Blakemore, S. J., 2008). There are two major aspects when it comes to adolescence: cognitive control and social control. The cognitive control focuses more on supervisory functions such as our working memory, decision making, self–consciousness, and attention distribution; while, the social control supports the individual being more sociable, forming more complex relationships and becoming more sensitive to acceptance and rejection by others (Steinberg, L. & Morris, A. S., 2001). The adolescence period of development begins with the onset of physiologically normal puberty, and ends when an adult identity and behavior are accepted. According to the World Health Organization (2006), this developmental period occurs roughly between the ages of 10 and 19 years old. For my subject, I observed adolescent seventeen–year–old, Caucasian male, Dalton. Our interviews were conducted at a local Starbucks, always under the permission of his fifty–one–year–old father, Thomas. I observed Dalton through a social and physical lens and related the theories of Erik Erikson, Lev Vygotsky, Lawrence Kohlberg, andJean Piaget to better understand his standpoint in development. According to the World Health Organization's 2006 child growth standards report, on average, a seventeen–year–old male is normally around 142.0 pounds and 69.0 inches tall, ... • 7. Essay on My Lai Massacre My Lai Massacre Soldiers are trained to always follow orders, and to never question orders. But that belief is somewhat illogical. Soldier's are to obey any lawful order given. But the training involved, the often chaotic nature of battle, and the need to follow authority to maintain survival can lead to a very blurred vision of what is right or wrong. One's animalistic instincts may take over. Sometimes there are such situations when you've stepped over the line. Such as the horrendous act that took place on March 16, 1968 in the village of Son My. The Quang Ngai Province, more than any other province in South Viet Nam, was suspected by the United States military officials as being a Viet Cong stronghold. Army intelligence ... A few weeks later on March fourteenth, a small squad from Charlie Company ran into another booby trap, this time killing a popular sergeant, blinding on GI, and wounding many others. The soldiers of Charlie Company became demoralized as they lost nearly one–third of their troop in two months. Many in the company had given in to an easy pattern of violence. Prisoners were systematically beaten, unarmed civilians sometimes murdered, whole villages burned, and wells poisoned. Rapes were not uncommon. Many military leaders encouraged and rewarded kills in an effort to produce impressive body counts that could be reported to Saigon as an indication of progress. On March 16, 1968. Charlie Company was ordered to enter the Hamlet of My Lai to clear out the Viet Cong's forty–eighth battalion that was believed to be in the vicinity. The soldier's mission would be to engage the forty–eighth battalion and destroy the village of My Lai. The attack was to begin at seven–thirty in the morning. Military leaders believed the women and children would be out of the village heading for the local market by this time, leaving only the Viet Cong. The soldiers were ordered to explode brick homes, set fires to thatch homes, shoot livestock, poison wells, and destroy the enemy. That plan was that Lieutenant Calley would come down from the ... • 8. Allen Ginsberg, "Howl" Cultural Imapact Essay Howl's Explicit Language and Revolution "Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does." Allen Ginsberg believed this wholly and based his means of poetry by what he said in this sentence. One cannot censor thoughts, just as one can't censor expression. Ginsberg faced controversy for sexual content and profanities that he used in his poetry, but those were merely his private thoughts that he brought to the public. His poetry fueled a whole generational revolution in the 1950s. In times of cookie cutter uniformity Allen Ginsberg went against norm and wrote explicit poetry for the sake of expressing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They pushed an open headedness to alternative sexualities and experimentation with drugs. This movement conflicted with the publicly accepted ideals of the time period ("The Beat Generation"). These ideals of the beat generation that "Howl" stood for is a big reason why there was so much controversy surrounding this poem. "Howl" was banned for obscenity because of its sexual and drug references, but without these references the voice of a movement could not be heard (poets.org.) The San Francisco Police Department deemed the poem "Howl" obscene due to the graphic sexual language the poem contained and arrested its publisher, Lawrence Ferlinghetti on June 3, 1957("Howl on trial" pg. 2). The trial that proceeded was sure to change the tides of the literary world. The ruling could change the ways of the Country, from prudery to expression sexual and other kinds. This was proven by the revolution in the sixties; Ginsberg breathed the unspoken truth into American consciousness, when he spoke frankly in colloquiums in "Howl." October 3, 1957 "Judge Clayton W. Horn not guilty of publishing and selling obscene writings, on the grounds that Howl and Other Poems was not written with lewd intent and was not without 'redeeming social importance'("Howl on trial" pg.3.)" The film, I Am Sam details the struggle of Sam Dawson– a man living with mild intellectual disabilities– and his fight to maintain custody of his young daughter. This film details many different important psychological principles that are taught and studied in modern psychology. These principles are brought up and make us question the validity and extent of principles that are held sacred in the psychological world today. The idea of having different parenting styles and which way to parent children is the best is debated and questioned in the psychological community. Sam Dawson throughout the film is generally lenient and uses no stern language or punishment on his daughter, Lucy. All this stays true until on scene, Sam decides to parent Lucy more sternly. In this scene, Sam had just been told by school administrators that they were worried that Lucy would fall behind in school because her father– Sam– could not teach her anything past his seven year old intelligence level. When Lucy tells him he cannot read a word and wants to go to sleep, he stops and tells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Classical Conversations "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7). This week I attended my cousins wedding in Boston, Massachusetts, during this time I was asked many questions along the lines of "What are you going to do in college?" "What are you studying?" "Would you like some wine?" etc... At first it was really discouraging because I am only a freshman in highschool, I don't know what I'm doing, but they want you to know. After answering all those questions (yes all of them, seriously) multiple times, I realized that i have grown and changed a lot just in this past year. Before this year, I did not read the word daily, and I did not think about God half as often as a do now. I now read the bible and pray daily. I have also done many "music cleanses" this year, in which I go through periods of time where I would listen to Christian music exclusively. It was very refreshing and uplifting and it definitely made me more aware of my music and media choices and helped me make sure I was honoring the Lord in every aspect of my life. I had never led through the Honors College before this semester nor had I ever felt so involved and included within the Honors College. Being an Honors Year One mentor has allowed me to grow in ways that I would have never grown if it was not for this experience. Through my experience, I have made friends, realized what all the Honors College has to offer and connect freshmen with others. I learned how I lead best, how to not always be the leader, what my strengths are and how to use them to their full potential, and what needs to happen differently next semester in hopes to improve the experience for the freshmen. I thought our mentor class was absolutely phenomenal. Tiffany continuously led us well and reigned us in well when we needed to get down to business. Her leadership, council, and example made a difference for me when leading my freshmen. She was also very encouraging, which was much needed. At the beginning, I was intimidated by Rebecca being in our class each week. However, the intimidation faded, and I quickly learned to appreciate her. She had many great suggestions as well as a great insight. I may be an extrovert, but on the first day of our mentor class, I was very intimidated and nervous. I had no earthly idea what to expect. He focused on the ethical development of kids and how they mature the wisdom of right, justice, and wrong. Kohlberg noted that teenagers underwent certain phases during moral growth. Through his observations, he developed a theory that human beings develop from one phase to another through an invariant pattern, not missing any stage. His conclusions have been proven by critical cultural studies conducted throughout the world. These phases were at levels known as pre–conventional, conventional and post–conventional morality. They put more importance in observing laws and carrying out duties that ensure social order is upheld (Kohlberg & Kramer, 1969). For example, individuals should reason on the possible effects of breaking the law before doing so. For instance, it could probably lead to chaos rejecting the functioning of society. The Analysis of the Ending of the Grapes of Wrath When you think of the word end you think of the end of a book or movie when the true definition is "a final part of something, esp. a period of time, an activity, or a story" or "the furthest or most extreme part or point of something." Webster The ending of "The Grapes of Wrath" is just that the most extreme. There are those who believe that the ending of this book is highly inappropriate and should be banned from schools for the content. However those people are uneducated and cannot look beyond the words to see that the ending is seen as beautiful. The true meaning of the end is about new life, second chances, and the innate kindness that lies within all people. The ending is about new life because of Rose of Sharon's baby and what it truly meant to the Joad family. Throughout the entire novel you experience Rose of Sharon pregnancy and her struggle to sustain both herself and a child. Generally babies represent new life, a fresh start, exactly what the Joad family was looking for from the start of the novel. Unfortunately the baby does not make it, this is very sad, but also a sigh of relief for the family. If the baby would have survived then that meant one more mouth to feed. Fortunately she still had her breast milk and used it to help another life, "Says he wasn't hungry, or he jus' et. Give me the food. Now he's too weak. Can'thardly move." • 16. Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl' The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male authors including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored American culture in their poems. The Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and patriarchal due to their exclusion of women and concerns confined to only male outcasts. In Allen Ginsberg's 1956 "Howl", he brings his audience's attention to male outcasts in society. In her 2015 "Howl", a critical response to Ginsberg's "Howl", Amy Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male–dominated culture through the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg's original stanza form, and utilizing diction to convey a woman's perspective antithetically to Allen Ginsberg's original. In Amy Newman's "Howl", she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who is acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the poetry world due to her oppressive marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, "[a] star–spangled lost in her housebound Eden curse with orchards and a million gossipy daffodils, writing and nursing and not on the lists..." (Newman). In Allen Ginsberg's original "Howl" he adverts to male poets he admires of his time, opposingly Newman emulates Ginsberg's technique and alludes to a feminist iconic poet Sylvia Plath. In this particular poem, the use of symbolism is heavily embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not give the reader a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and dissecting each stanza, it would not seem to be just a group of random words stitched together, but rather a poem about Lawrence Ferlinghetti's assessment of the modern world. As the supposed dog wanders freely and explores the world around him, the symbolic images that the dog experiences along his journey truly gives an in depth view of the term "Beat" from the emerging "Beat Generation" of the 1950s. Qualities of the post–World War II Beat culture include obscene and defiant behaviors in addition to an environment paved with drugs and poverty. One of the stories that best portrays the central elements of the Beat culture is the story of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty in On the Road by Jack Kerouac. In fact, Jack Kerouac is the writer who was the first to coin the term "Beat Generation." In the story, Sal Paradise meets a highly experimental and charismatic man dubbed Dean Moriarty. The House Of The Seven Gabless Analysis – Salem State University professor, Aviva Chomsky, spoke at the House of the Seven Gables, on Thursday Sept. 14, about the 1933 Pequot Mills Strike, and its connection to modern labor issues facing the U.S. today. The House of the Seven Gables welcomed back Chomsky, as a guest speaker, for the final presentation of their ongoing speaker series, "Life and Labor over Four Centuries at the House of the Seven Gables." Ana Nuncio, Settlement Programs Manager at the House of Seven Gables said, "The Gables is proud to include professor Avi Chomsky in its roster of speakers this year," and that "Chomsky is an engaging speaker with much to say on topics that are relevant to our Salem community, such as labor issues and immigrant rights." Chomsky's talk on the 1933 Pequot mills strike, now the site of Shetland Park, chronicled the issues faced by the mostly immigrant workers, of automation, productivity, unemployment, and wage disparity that still face the workers of today. The workers of the Pequot mills were Irish, French Canadian, and Polish immigrants that resided mostly in the Point Neighborhood of Salem. These immigrant workers were prompted to strike due to issues of unemployment and forced increased productivity caused by new innovations in loom technology. Chomsky described how, "One mill worker could now run 1,000 looms instead of just one, leaving 999 mill workers unemployed." With communist party influence, and concern for the working class, the mill workers struck in 1933. This strike influenced all of Salem as almost half of all residents were employed by the Pequot mills. The mill workers met to discuss the strike at the Saltonstall school, and marched down Lafayette Street in protest of the unfair labor conditions and wages. Chomsky highlighted the solidary of the mill workers by showing a document created by the strikers that said, "If we lose this strike, all textile workers will be effected." Chomsky pointed out that even then people were thinking about the global influence of workers' rights. The Pequot mills strike, were finally resolved when President Roosevelt sent mediators to reach a consensus between the striking workers, and the employers. The purpose of this paper is to explain anthropomorphism and its effect on children's early learning about animals. The term anthropomorphism gives life–like or human characteristics to those who are not human such as an animal or an object. The author's writing will inform those who are concerned about this current dilemma and their effects on the children's early learning about animals as well as provide us with our next steps to ensure academic success for our youth. The proper development of these early young minds is the main purpose of this research and article. Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on the child's developing mind. This skewed view of the natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children become confused when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are not really present. • 24. Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing social consciousness and defying conventional writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets, known for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and experimental drug use, caused a lot of controversy. In Ginsberg's Howl and Other Poems, Ginsberg employs a particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative, nuclear driven society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and individuals whose ideology does not agree with that of the rest of the nation. Ginsberg believes that American society remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg, along with the other poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as heterosexual as well as homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their writings. Ginsberg became one of the most influential poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the idea of breaking the mold of the idealistic nuclear American society. Bond 2 At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at home wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread idealistic way of life followed by the mass mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of the American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the privilege of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this concept of the idealistic "American Dream" proceeds to do nothing but harm minorities much like himself. Ginsberg "saw the best minds of [his] generation destroyed by madness... demanding instantaneous lobotomy..."(1–69). The harmful and destructive ideology of the great American dream remains engraved in our society dating all the way back to The Bill of Rights, 1789, " No person shall be... deprived of life, liberty, or property" and Allen Ginsberg strived to dismantle this falsely constructed ideology. The point to take away from this is that Alan Ginsberg felt the need to attempt to change his personality to appease society. Society was such that one could not be an openly gay person, and if one was they were to be shunned. The men that attracted Ginsberg's attention were another problem for him as many of them were mostly heterosexual (99). Ginsberg's psychiatrist saw the result of the attempted change, and that the best decision was to come free and live the way that Ginsberg truly was. • 28. Theories Of Learning : Constructivism And Social... This essay will analyse three main theories of learning: behaviourism, constructivism and social constructivism. Each theory varies in its approach to teaching as each has its own definition of learning but all have strong implications for teaching practice. As every pupil has different needs and different ways of learning, no one theory is useful for all children therefore I will be examining both the benefits and limitations of each. I will discuss the implications of each theory on classroom practice, including how each theory influences different strategies and approaches to teaching such as inclusion, observation and play. A degree personal experience will help me to reflect upon both theories and legislation as well as the difficulties those who work in the classroom face with inclusive practice with the constraints of the national curriculum and systems of assessment. Burrhus Skinner is one of the best known behaviourist theorists. He applied ideas taken from his works with rats and pigeons to children. Behaviourists define learning as something that "people do in response to external stimuli". (Muijs and Reynolds, 2005, p21) Skinner argued that changes in the behaviour of children are as a result of their response to events (stimuli) that have happened to them. This process is known as operant conditioning which suggests that if a response to stimuli is followed with a reward or encouragement, this response is likely to occur again. This then leads to the idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Lawrence Ferlinghetti Materialism Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the founder of City Lights Bookstore, has created many works in both literature and art that portrays the ideals of the Beat Generation. His poem "The World is a Beautiful Place," is a sarcastically ironic poem about a narrator who says "the world is beautiful place;" yet he lists the negative aspects of society due to materialism. At the time the core beliefs of society were that of post World War II non –conformist beliefs and can are clearly depicted in Ferlinghetti's work. Ferlinghetti was born in Yonkers, New York on March 29, 1919. At an early age Ferlinghetti was already succumbed to tragedies including the death of his father and the commitment of his mother into a mental institution. He lived with his aunt in Long Island, New York for a good portion of his life and attended many prominent private schools in the Long Island area. Later in life after ... Once he returned from war, Ferlinghetti went back to school under the GI Bill and earned a master's degree in literature from Columbia University and a doctoral degree in poetry at the Sorbonne in Paris. Shortly after attaining his degrees, Ferlinghetti and his friend, Peter Martin, opened City Lights Bookstore which would become known as the heart of the "Beat" movement. Today he can occasionally be spotted in City Lights Bookstore but he spends most of his time writing weekly columns for the San Francisco Chronicle and painting pictures depicting the corruption of society due to materialism. Although the title "The World is a Beautiful Place" may invoke a sense of pride towards the world, Ferlinghetti twists the idea of it being a "beautiful world" and states all the negative aspects of society along with some pleasant aspects which can be utilized to paint a picture of the world for what it truly is. • 31. The Development And Testing Of An Intermediate Concept... Ability of Children to Identify Bad Choices and Justifications Kent S. Michael The University of Alabama Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013) outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in their last year of dental school (Bebeau & Thoma, 1999). To the author's knowledge, a similar study has not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess whether children aged 9–11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications. Literature Review Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of moral reasoning–heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget's concrete operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. The latter is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Child Development Essay Child Development Have you ever wondered how a baby grows into a child then into an adult? I never really thought about it myself until I had a child of my own. It is amazing to see all the psychological stage she has gone through already in her short life. Before she becomes an adult she will go through may more stages. Some developmental psychologists believe that all children go through the same stages in the same order. That is not to say that all children do things at the exact same time in their life, because some environmental factors can speed up or slow down a child's development. A child's psychological growth depends on the child's environment. Environment consists of everything that a child comes in contact with on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a child is born with cataracts and they are removed before the age of seven, that child's vision will develop normally. If these cataracts are not removed then they can create extensive damage to their vision for the rest of their life. A sensitive period is a period in a child's development that is very important for particular kinds of development. If a certain behavior is not learned during this "sensitive time" it just may not develop to its full potential. For example, if a child is not exposed to language before the age of seven, he or she may fail to acquire it all together. These "preschool years" are significant in a child's intellectual development. There are many Psychologists with different views and theories about this subject, but I will only talk about the view of one. This theory of the development of a child is outlined by a Swiss Psychologist by the name of Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget was known to be one on the century's most influential thinkers. Piaget thought of children as mini scientists who conduct experiments on the world just to see what will happen. He categorized development into four different stages. They are Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational. The first two years of a child's life is the sensorimotor stage. This is the time in an infant's life when they are discovering everything. They are learning about different object, shapes and actions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analysis Of Disney Company 's Recreation Of Public Domain... Once upon a time there were gripping tales shared between generation to generation and continuously passed down. The listener 's focus was on the story's message and not its possible profit allowed those listeners to live happily ever after. Storytelling began long ago traditionally told orally before there was a shift to written stories and eventually as technology developed became a digital market. Some of the most famous digitalized tales are fairy tales. Previous to digital development, copyright laws on fairy tales were slim because there was less concern over copying. This is also how the story's focus was more on the message and its creative development than the potential profit. The Walt Disney company's recreation of public domain fairy tales demonstraights how copyright laws have hindered artistic creativitity within America. The Walt Disney company, is a beloved as well as infamous company worldwide also notoriously known for their strict copyright laws. Original American copyright laws stated artistic works were protected for 28 years and these laws were eventfully extended to a 56–year time frame. The term continues to increase with the present law set at 75 years. Large companies like Disney continue to fight for stricter and longer laws because of the revenue they will continue to bring it. (Washington post). One apparent problem from the extensions is public lacks the ability to build on Disney stories since they are not in public domain. In the 1997 report ... • 35. What Is Erikson's Theory Of Spiritual Formation SPIRITUAL FORMATION THROUGHOUT THE LIFESPAN BY SOMMER BARNES LIBERTY UNIVERSITY ONLINE Abstract In this research paper, I will try to illustrate my hypothesis of spiritual formation throughout the lifespan by using my interpretation of a collection of theories. The theories I will refer to include Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory, Erikson's Psychosocial Theory, and Kohlberg's Development of Moral Reasoning Theory. In Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development, he develops a theory of cognitive development that occurs in stages from persons under two years of age through age 14. Piaget's theory relates to the cognitive development of a human person. In Erik Erickson's Theory of Psychosocial Development, Erikson describes a theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * * Erik Erickson's theory uses distinct critical crises that occur in one's life that require an "ah hah" moment which leads to maturity. It is with this model I will now illustrate another perspective on spiritual formation through the life cycle. Erikson puts a clear emphasis on society's role in the development of n individual. Erikson advises that crises are never completely resolved and can re–emerge later in life, if left unresolve. I think that throughout ones spiritual journey we all have different things that we question, learn, discover and each of these changes in thinking all come from a moment that you decided that is your belief spiritually. Modeling Erikson's stages of psychosocial development, the first stage is basic trust vs. mistrust. A spiritual leader, a church family, a version of your bible; these things are all things that you rely on to get to know your higher power. These things should align in most basic beliefs but when they contradict one another, a seeker of truth must ask himself– "What do I believe?" In the next stage of development, autonomy vs. shame are a crisis that occur when the thinking becomes strong and confident when the spiritual journey is welcoming, joyful and environmentally sound. In cases * If a believer is surrounded with unstable fellowship, "lost in the crowd" churches and too many questions within, the seeker can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is an example of Kohlberg's classification of three levels of moral development in humans. Even though there is not a lot of information in the novel given about Soraya, her personality can be reviewed based on her behavior throughout the story. The reader first meets with Soraya in chapter 11, when she is working at a flea market. Her obedience to her father – General Taheri – can be referred to the Pre–Conventional Morality, stage 1: Obedience and Punishment Orientation. Dressed in a stunning winecolored traditional Afghan dress with long sleeves and gold trimmings. She kissed my father 's hands. Sat beside me at last, her eyes downcast." (168–169) Here, Soraya wears traditional Afghan dress and follows the rules accordingly. She sees this as more than simple deal, since marriage in Afghanistan is an important event. Her "good behaviour" is visible during the time she spends with Amir's father when he lies in bed, sick: "Soraya dedicated herself to taking care of my father. She made his toast and tea in the morning, and helped him in and out of bed. She gave him his pain pills, washed his clothes, read him the international section of the newspaper every afternoon, She cooked his favourite dish, potato shorwa, though he could scarcely eat more than a few spoonfuls, and took him out every day for a brief walk around the block. And when he became bedridden, she turned him on his side every hour so he wouldn 't get a bedsore." (172) Soraya takes care of Amir's father, even though no one asked her to do this. According to Kohlberg, person at this stage has good motives and interpersonal feelings, such as love, trust, empathy and concern for others, which is exactly what Soraya shows in this passage. Another time when this level is evident is when Soraya tells Amir how she taught an illiterate woman how to read and write: "When I was in fourth grade in Kabul, my father hired a woman ... • 37. Theme Of Justine Written in retrospect, Justine is an attempt on part of Darley, the narrator, to be reconciled with Alexandria, the city that transfigured his life. During his stay in Alexandria, Darley is constantly torn between his love for Melissa and Justine. He associates his love for the two women with the kinds of perfumes they wear, particularly that of Justine, which Darley searches for in a moment of yearning to be with her. This urgent search for Justine's perfume parallels Darley's endeavor to find the true essence of the city. However, the perfume's name, Jamais de la vie, foreshadows his inability to adapt to the unbefitting city that shall always remain a mystery. Darley's colonial perspective of Alexandria prevents him from viewing the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Part One, he finds "a small empty scent–bottle of the cheap kind that Melissa used" (25), which he "took ... back to the flat where it stayed on the mantelpiece for some months" (25). It is important to note that Darley immediately realizes that Melissa's perfume is "cheap", since it corresponds to her simple–mindedness, in addition to her physical and mental frailty. Furthermore, Darley examines the empty bottle while "measuring [the old furrier's] love against [his] own; and tasting too, vicariously, the desperation which makes one clutch at some small discarded object which is still impregnated with the betrayer's memory" (26). This remark of "desperation" is ironical, for Darley himself will be put in the same position when he later desperately sets out to find Justine's perfume, who is also a betrayer. Justine's perfume, however, bewilders Darley. The fact that Darley does not easily recognize the kind of perfume Justine wears sheds light on Justine's complex character and the struggle to understand the enigma of her personality. Darley describes the first whiff he gets of Justine's perfume as, "the warm summer perfume of her dress and skin" (26, 27). This loving description comes in opposition to that of Melissa's "scent–bottle", which Darley does not admire but merely "studies". This contrast foregrounds the true nature of Darley's love of ... • 38. How Not Follow Copyright Law : An Exploratory Essay On... How to Not Follow Copyright Law: An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. Our culture has more ways than ever to publish and distribute the things we make, and with the rise of the internet we can reach any audience with a Wi–Fi connection. This digital hyper–connectivity has led many artists to create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures. One of these cultures that has become a significant part of online media is Remix Culture. The idea of taking someone else's art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and detested by others. As this genre of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and isn't a remix has drastically blurred. Some will spend hours upon hours making a song sound completely different from its original counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it their own. Though laws were once effective when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art has grown has significantly surpassed the rate at which these laws have changed. People are beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways, creating much controversy surrounding who should be getting paid, or if anyone should get paid at all. As artists, it is important to know what these laws are exactly, so we can either abide by them or find our own workarounds. As soon as a work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is ... • 39. Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Christ Climbed Down, AndSometime... Lawrence Ferlinghetti is often regarded as one of the most influential American poets of the 20th century, and his writing covers a wide range of social topics regarding the status of American culture during the 1950s and 60s. Many of Ferlinghetti's works focus on his vision of America and how that vision had not come to fruition because of the less than ideal situations surrounding American culture at the time. Consequently, Ferlinghetti was also an avid member of the Beat generation and used his ability to write as a platform for spreading the message of the Beatniks. As we have discussed in class, the Beatniks refer to the generation of young people during the 1950s and 1960s that rode the wave of counterculture that was sweeping the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his poem, "Sometime During Eternity...", he criticizes the way Americans viewJesus Christ and questions the dogma attached to traditional Christian beliefs. Ferlinghetti discusses how the American people like to treat Jesus as if he is some sort of high end celebrity, referring to him as "hip" and "cat" (15), names which are usually associated with jazz musicians. However, despite the adoration the American people use when talking about Jesus, Ferlinghetti states that we later "... Stretch him on the Tree to cool/ And everybody after that/ is always making models/ of this tree/ with Him hung up/ and always crooning His name" (15–16). This quote shows that the American people are often able to speak romantically of Jesus and adore Him with their words, but come up short with their actions, as they put Him on the Cross by denying their faith in Him. As we have discussed in class, this is a reference to the biblical figure, Peter, who denied Jesus three times just before the crucifixion of Jesus. Ferlinghetti is writing this piece to show that the American people have turned into Peter, as we want ourselves and others to believe that we are devout believers in Christ, but our faith crumbles and our knowledge of Christ crumbles at the slightest provocation. Also, as we have discussed in class, the poem is unorganized and does not seem to have a consistent pattern or verse, as well as many references to jazz.
